In the early 1990s Dorothy lobbied for an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health service in Mareeba and to this day she remains a dedicated member of the Board of Directors of Mulungu Aboriginal Corporation Medical Centre. Dorothy also puts in many hours as a volunteer to ensure Mulungu remains a strong and viable organisation. In addition, Dorothy has held a number of offices, bearing positions on the board of Muluridgi Housing and the Julbu Women’s Group. She has spent many hours attending to her duties in these positions in a professional and efficient manner. In recent years, Dorothy has provided a home for Indigenous babies and children in need, and an unconditional loving environment for all of those under her care. In all the positions she has held, including that of community Elder, Dorothy has always provided insightful, calm and knowledgeable leadership, and she is looked up to and respected by those who have come in contact with her. Dorothy has shown great commitment to improving the status of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in this region, and has stepped out of her comfort zone to tackle the many challenges facing the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. She is a great positive role model for all of us.
