MT. PLEASANT — Horses played a key role in colonizing the West. The Mormon Pioneer National Heritage Area (MPNHA) tells their story through agri-tourism and events that carry forward the power of the horse. The Cleone Peterson Eccles Equestrian Center, which hosts inside events in the ConToy Arena at 955 West 1000 South, recently attracted professional team ropers who brought their world class talent to Mt. Pleasant City, the Chair Community for the MPNHA. More than 500 teams flocked to the qualifier to compete on May 17-18, Horses and livestock scrambled around the arena as competitors sent their and the large parking lot in front of lassos flying in the team roping event at the ConToy Arena. the arena nearly swelled to capacity with camp and horse trailers. Facility organizer Jack Widdison says this is the fourth team roping event held so far, and also the biggest. Quinn Kesler, lifelong rodeo competitor and owner of Double Dollar Livestock, hosted the qualifier and says the Mt. Pleasant facility is extremely well suited to large events like the one he organized recently. “We love coming here,” he says. “The organizers are always very helpful and accommodating to our needs. If any changes have to happen, Jack [Widdison] handles it quickly. We love the small town feel from the When the 2019 World Series of Team Roping qualifier took place at Mt. Last Mormon Miracle Pageant presentations prepared Here it is, the 53rd and final presentations of the MMP. The Manti Temple grounds have been transformed for the last time into a giant outdoor stage for the presentation on the south side of Temple Hill. A cast of over 900 volunteer actors will bring new life and excitement to Manti while depicting scenes from history with dance, music and drama for a large audience seated under a canopy of stars. Each year, the pageant retells the account of the resurrected Jesus Christ visiting the people on the American continents. The dramatization includes Christ healing and teaching the people, as well as blessing the children, just as he did in Jerusalem. Then time fast-forwards to the 1800s, when farm boy Joseph Smith received and later translated the record of this ancient American people. The record is known today as the Book of Mormon. Finally, the presentation concludes with the story of a fictional couple searching for religious truth and enlightenment and the joy they find

MANTI — The final presentations of the Mormon Miracle Pageant begin next week during two dress rehearsals to be held Tuesday and Wednesday, June 11 and 12, followed by the official pageant presentations for eight nights, Thursday thru Saturday, June 13-15, and Tuesday thru Saturday, 18-22. Admission is free. Gates open each night at 6 p.m., and the pageant begins at 9:30 p.m. Each June, for the past 52 years, Manti has come to life and presented a grand production full of wonder and excitement. In October 2018, an official statement from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said that while local celebrations of culture and history may be appropriate, the Church now discourages larger productions such as pageants. Existing Church pageants around the world were reviewed and it was announced in December 2018 that the Manti Pageant, also known as the Mormon Miracle Pageant (MMP) would have its last performances in 2019.
