PALOS VERDES PENINSULA LAND CONSERVANCY

2023 ANNUAL REPORT

We are thrilled to present the 2023 Annual Report of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, which testifies to all of our shared dedication and remarkable achievements over the past year. Through the collective efforts of dedicated board members, expert staff, volunteers, and generous and loyal donors, the Conservancy has made significant strides in conserving the Peninsula’s natural lands and providing robust nature education programming.

Following on last year’s momentous acquisition of the 96-acre Wildlife Corridor, the Go Wild for the Peninsula campaign’s continued success secured the funds needed to launch the first segment of the restoration in the Wildlife Corridor and future restoration plans for several other preserves as well as renewal of our nature centers. This initiative comes at a critical time to accelerate the restoration of land to create more fire resilient preserves and to support local biodiversity that makes the Peninsula so unique. The observation of the endangered PV blue butterfly in two new locations this year demonstrates the success of restoring its native habitat and the ongoing recovery of this species, and we have more exciting projects in store for 2024!

In addition to conservation, this year’s educational programs have reached 13,209 new students and community members through the nature centers, 30 schools, and free public programs in the Preserves. Our outreach initiatives strengthen ties with the community and enhance public support for conservation work. Through partnerships with local businesses, schools, and organizations, we foster environmental stewardship and broaden awareness throughout the community of the importance of cherishing and advocating for the preservation of our precious landscapes.

Another exciting milestone reached in 2023 was purchasing our own building to consolidate our staff in one space and establish the Conservation Center for the Peninsula. Thanks to an existing gift directed to urgent opportunities, we were able to provide an immediate cash offer on the building, and we had the good fortune of having Steve Tight on the board of directors whom we thank deeply for his talent and leadership in overseeing the reconstruction of the building. Our Corporate Partners from Room & Board also provided trucks and labor plus all our furniture to enable our relocation in December!

We are excited about the opportunities in 2024 and beyond. With your support, we will build upon our accomplishments and continue to preserve the unique character and natural heritage of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Thank you for your steadfast support of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy. Together we will ensure that the Palos Verdes Peninsula remains a sanctuary for wildlife and a source of inspiration for generations to come.
