A rosewood sideboard or chest of drawers produced in the 1960’s by La Sorgente dei Mobili in Arosio near Milan, Italy. The drawers open to reveal a lovely light wood veneers interior (possibly cedar wood) which really shows the attention to detail that the manufacturer had when designing the sideboard. A lovely piece of mid century design furniture that lends itself so well to various uses, both in the bedroom and in the living room.

A 1920’S ENGLISH FOUR-BLADE WOOD PROPELLER BY VICKERS VERNON

c.1920

An extremely rare antique four-blade propeller from a Vickers Vernon aircraft. The Vickers Vernon was a British biplane troop carrier used by the Royal Air Force. It entered service in 1921, and was the first dedicated troop transport of the RAF. The Vernon was a development of the Vickers Vimy Commercial, a passenger variant of the famous Vickers Vimy bomber, and was powered by twin Napier Lion engines or Rolls-Royce Eagle VIII engines. Only 55 were built.

A very elegant pair of side tables designed by Vittorio, Alessandro and Plinio Dassi and produced in Lissone by Dassi, made in Italy in the middle of the 20th century. These wonderful side tables have executed in rosewood veneer and birch wood. The two tables each have a pull out drawer, they support engraved groove crystal glass shelves and have a lovely off-white marble that covers the table. Very elegant with their sculptural geometric legs, the lines are classic from the Italian midcentury design period.

Stylish mid-20th Century model of a Bugatti Type 41, better known as the Bugatti Royale. This model is crafted from nearly 3 kilograms of solid silver with the highest attention to detail. There are working moving parts such as suicide doors to gain access to the pattenated silver interior, a bi-fold bonnet revealing a beautiful 12.7l engine. This is one of the largest engines to ever be fitted to a passenger automobile. The car comes with rubber tyres, including a spare fitted to the rear trunk lid. In dust-wrapper illustrated by Richard Chopping. ‘Thunderball’ is one of the most pivotal works of the series. It was in ‘Thunderball’ that Fleming first introduced the world to the ultimate Bond villian, Ernest Stavro Blofeld. Though Bond and Blofeld never actually meet here, it is in this book that Bond first battles the schemes of Spectre, Blofeld’s criminal organisation. It is the first part of the so- called ‘Blofeld’ trilogy, and was followed by ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’ (1963) and ‘You Only Live Twice’ (1964).

A stunning floor lamp by Gaetano Sciolari made by Stilnovo of Italy around the 1960s. Sciolari was at the forefront of design in that period. It is hard to overstate how futuristic his designs looked at the time and how influential his designs were. To this day his designs are copied and mimicked in modern lighting solutions and this lamp, called the Model 4013 hardly shows its age. Made in the 1960s, it is as beautiful as it is functional. Its simplistic and futuristic design sits so well in any modern interior as it would equally in any mid-century design interior.

007 ‘YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE’ SUBWAY C POSTER c.1967, U.S RELEASE

This film, the fifth in the James Bond series produced by Eon Productions, was directed by Lewis Gilbert, marking the start of his three-film tenure with the franchise. The screenplay, loosely inspired by Ian Fleming’s 1964 novel, was penned by Roald Dahl. During production, it was announced that Sean Connery would retire from his role as Bond, though he later returned for “Diamonds are Forever” in 1971 and “Never Say Never Again” in 1983. Artist Frank McCarthy (1924-2002) contributed to the promotional artwork, which included three distinct posters showcasing Connery in various iconic scenes: in a bathtub surrounded by women, with the memorable Little Nelly aircraft, and within the volcano.

Alongside three British posters, the advertising team also crafted three larger-format posters for the US subway market. This superb large posters comes with a timeless made to measure custom black frame.

DANIEL HAESELEER c.1970: A MASSIVE 20TH CENTURY FLOOR LAMP

Born in 1947, Daniel D’Haeseleer is a Belgian artist born artist started his career as an artist in graphics but later tuned his hand to creating spectacular art pieces, typically made out of brass and copper. He drew much of his inspiration from the natural world, incorporating items collected such as wood, limestone and small fossils and incorporated them into his designs.

The chrome stand supports a glass ball which has been entirely realised by hand by the expert glass makers located on the island of Murano in Venice, Italy. The beautiful opalescent glass lamp shade is supported by a chromed stand which also has three smaller lights fitted within three tubular bulb holders. When it is and turned on it gives a wonderful warm glow to any room, giving a variety of lighting options to the user thanks to its double pedal switch that operated the main light and the three smaller lights independently. It fits so well with any interior whether modern, period, or mid century.

A bamboo room divider (or screen) manufactured by Vivai Del Sud in Italy in the 1970s. This mid century mirrored bifold screen is a statement piece which is part of Maurizio Mariani and Giusto Puri Purini’s ‘Palm Beach Regency’ collection for the house of Vivai Del Sud. The Vivai del Sud production presented a whole series of furnishings and accessories inspired by palm groves. They used various materials but their most famous and sought after items utilised bamboo for such pieces as this.

The table structure is made entirely out of brass and chrome, the top of which has brass framed glass tiles, the glass having an antiqued green glaze effect which has a translucent effect, changing in colour according to the reflection of light. Romeo Rega made a few of these tables but this particular model with green glass tiles is exceptionally rare. They are more commonly seen with brown glass tiles, mirrored or smoked glass tiles, or even burr walnut inlay.
