ANCIENT EGYPTIAN REIKI HEALING: A REBIRTH OF TIMELESS WISDOM by Daniela Fisher
I
n the modern era, where stress and disconnection from self are prevalent, ancient healing practices have begun to resurface, offering profound wisdom for those seeking spiritual growth, balance, and wellness. Among these powerful practices, Ancient Egyptian Reiki Healing stands out as a fascinating rebirth of age-old knowledge, drawing upon the sacred energies and consciousness of the Egyptian civilization. Ancient Egyptian Reiki is deeply rooted in the esoteric wisdom of Egypt, where healing, energy work, and the understanding of the cosmos played a central role in daily life. The Egyptians believed in the life force energy, often referred to as Ka, which is akin to the concept of Ki (Japan), Chi (China), or Prana (India). They understood the power of energy alignment and spiritual attunement, using symbols, sacred geometry, and divine invocations to heal and elevate consciousness. Egyptian temples were not just places of worship but centers of energy healing, where high priests and priestesses, trained in divine arts, practiced various forms of spiritual healing. Hieroglyphic inscriptions and ancient texts indicate the use of hands-on energy transmission, much like Reiki, to restore balance in the body, mind, and spirit.
8 | ISSUE 2 2025 | pursuit:365
The Rebirth of Ancient Wisdom in Modern Times The resurgence of Ancient Egyptian Reiki Healing is part of humanity’s collective shift toward higher consciousness. Unlike traditional Reiki, which traces its modern lineage to Japan, this healing system incorporates Egyptian deities, sacred symbols, and cosmic frequencies to elevate one’s energy field. It is believed to work on multiple dimensions, addressing physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects simultaneously. Practitioners of Ancient Egyptian Reiki use techniques inspired by the practices of Isis, Thoth, and Sekhmet— powerful Egyptian deities associated with healing, wisdom, and transformation. Through specific hand placements, sacred intonations, and visualizations of golden light, practitioners help clear blockages, activate the higher chakras, and awaken dormant spiritual abilities.
The Role of Sacred Symbols and Geometry
A Call to Ancient Wisdom
Symbols and sacred geometry were highly revered in Ancient Egypt. Many of these symbols are integrated into Egyptian Reiki Healing, including:
In a world that often prioritizes material success over spiritual fulfillment, the revival of Ancient Egyptian Reiki Healing serves as a beacon of hope. It reminds us that healing is not just about the body—it is about aligning with universal energy, restoring harmony, and embracing the wisdom of the ancients.
•
The Ankh: Known as the key of life, this symbol is used to channel and amplify healing energy.
•
The Eye of Horus: Represents protection, wisdom, and spiritual insight.
•
The Pyramid: Acts as a conduit for universal energy, helping to align the physical and etheric bodies.
•
The Scarab Beetle: Symbolizes rebirth, transformation, and the soul’s evolution.
For those drawn to its mysteries, exploring Ancient Egyptian Reiki can be a transformative journey, one that bridges the past and the present, offering a timeless path to wholeness and enlightenment. The ancient healers of Egypt left behind a legacy of divine knowledge—one that continues to whisper through the sands of time, waiting for those ready to listen and awaken.
These symbols serve as powerful energetic tools that enhance the healing process, bringing the recipient into alignment with their highest self. How Ancient Egyptian Reiki Can Transform Your Life Engaging in Ancient Egyptian Reiki Healing can have profound effects on one’s personal and spiritual development. Some of its key benefits include: •
Emotional Healing: Clears past traumas, emotional wounds, and subconscious blockages.
•
Spiritual Awakening: Connects individuals to their higher selves and ancient wisdom.
•
Energy Cleansing: Purifies the energy field, removing stagnant or negative energies.
•
Physical Well-being: Aids in stress relief, relaxation, and overall vitality.
•
Increased Intuition: Opens the third eye and enhances psychic awareness.
Practitioners and recipients often report deep meditative states, visions of past lives, and a sense of divine guidance after sessions. The practice encourages self-empowerment, helping individuals remember their soul’s purpose and reconnect with their innate healing abilities.

THE POWER OF BEING SEEN: WHY PHOTOS MATTER FOR FAMILIES AND BUSINESSES
I
by Anita Alberto
n a world that moves fast, it's easy to let time slip away without capturing the moments that truly matter. Whether it’s gathering your family for a photoshoot or updating your professional headshot, being seen in photos is a powerful and meaningful experience. Photos tell your story, and being intentional about capturing them can boost your confidence, build meaningful connections, and preserve beautiful moments for years to come.
Family photos are more than just pictures — they are windows into our history. They capture the love, connection, and growth within your family. Looking back on photos from past years brings a sense of nostalgia and reminds you of how far you’ve come. Children grow, families change, and life moves quickly, but photos are the constant reminder of the love shared between you and your family. Getting in front of the camera, even when you don’t feel like it, is one of the greatest gifts you can give your family. One day, these photos will become cherished heirlooms. Whether it’s an annual family session or capturing special milestones, making the time to be seen in photos is worth it. The Value of Professional Business Photos In the business world, a professional headshot or branding session is more than just a picture —
10 | ISSUE 2 2025 | pursuit:365
it’s an introduction. Your photo is often the first impression someone will have of you, and it can communicate so much about your personality, brand, and professionalism. A great headshot exudes confidence, approachability, and authenticity. It’s essential for entrepreneurs, business owners, or anyone building a personal brand to have updated, high-quality images that align with their vision. Investing in professional photos shows that you value yourself and your work, which in turn helps others see your worth too. Tips for Being More Confident in Photos For many people, the thought of being photographed can feel intimidating. However, with the right mindset and a few tips, you can step in front of the camera with confidence:
1. Wear Something You Feel Good In – Choose outfits that make you feel confident and comfortable. Avoid anything too tight, fussy, or unflattering.
that moment — and that is priceless.
2. Focus on a Positive Thought – Instead of worrying about how you look, focus on why you're taking the photos — whether it’s celebrating your family or showcasing your business. This shift in mindset helps ease nerves.
Whether it's for family or business, being seen in photos is a powerful way to tell your story. Don’t let fear or hesitation keep you from stepping in front of the camera. You deserve to be seen, celebrated, and remembered — and one day, you’ll be grateful you did.
Be Seen, Be Remembered
3. Relax and Trust Your Photographer – A skilled photographer will guide you through the process. Trust their direction, allow yourself to laugh, and enjoy the moment. 4. Smile Naturally – Forget the forced “cheese” smile. Think of a happy memory, a loved one, or something that makes you laugh. Natural, candid smiles always look best. Choosing the Right Photographer for You Selecting the right photographer is key to feeling comfortable and confident during your session. Here are a few tips to help you choose: Review Their Portfolio – Look through their work and see if their style aligns with your vision.
Anita Alberto is a professional wedding, family and event photographer based in Vancouver, BC., with over 25 years of experience capturing families, business headshots and commercial events across Canada and the U.S.
Read Reviews – Client testimonials will give you insight into the experience they offer. Connect with Them – Schedule a quick chat or consultation to see if their personality matches yours. Feeling at ease with your photographer makes a world of difference. The Power of Smiling There’s a reason why we’re often told to smile for photos — smiling is good for you and your soul. Studies show that smiling can reduce stress, boost your mood, and even increase your lifespan. When you smile, your brain releases endorphins, making you feel happier. But beyond the science, smiling in photos captures the joy in your heart. Years from now, you’ll look back on those photos and remember the happiness you felt in pursuit:365 | ISSUE 2 2025 | 11
THE BENEFITS OF HIRING AN INTERIOR DECORATOR
W
by Sandra Flora
hen it comes to transforming your home into a space that reflects your personality, meets your functional needs, and enhances its overall value, hiring an interior decorator can be a wise investment. While interior decorators do not make structural changes or provide full-scale renovation services, they specialize in cosmetic changes that can refresh space. From choosing colours and furniture to accessorizing and maximizing the functionality of your home, interior decorators offer a wide range of benefits. Increase your Home Value One of the most significant advantages of hiring an interior decorator is the potential to increase your home's value. Whether you are planning to sell your home or wish to create a more inviting and attractive living space, a professional decorator can help you get the most out of your home. When staging a home for sale, a well-decorated space often appeals to more buyers and increases the number of offers. A decorator knows how to create an appealing aesthetic that speaks

to a broad range of buyers by highlighting the best features of the home and depersonalizing. Even if you're not selling, smart design decisions can improve the overall ambiance and value of your home. By choosing the right furniture, lighting, paint colours, and decor, home decorators can make your space feel more cozy and welcoming. This can result in an appreciation of the space’s value, especially when it comes to showcasing your home's potential for future buyers or appraisers. Personalize Your Space Your home should be a reflection of who you are, and an interior decorator can help you infuse your personality and style into every room. Working with a decorator allows you to personalize your space by incorporating unique elements such as artwork, textiles, plants, and
decorative accessories that resonate with you. Whether you prefer a minimalist aesthetic, a cozy bohemian vibe, or a sophisticated modern look, decorators understand how to bring your vision to life. They can help you select pieces that align with your lifestyle, curating a space that feels authentic. Furthermore, interior decorators can help you achieve a space that is both beautiful and practical for daily use.
consuming and costly process. Homeowners may not know where to begin, which pieces will work best in their space, or how to find trusted trades and vendors. Working with an interior decorator eliminates the guesswork and allows you to focus on what matters most to you. An interior decorator has the experience and connections to source furniture, decor, and accessories that fit both your budget and style. They can quickly identify the best options, sparing you hours of online research or shopping trips. Decorators use mood boards to portray their vision and avoid costly mistakes and unnecessary purchases. Home decorators have access to trade discounts and special pricing on furniture and materials that are not available to the public. This can significantly reduce the overall cost of decorating your home.
Maximize Space & Functionality
Get Access to Exclusive Trade Discounts
Maximizing the functionality of your space is crucial, especially for those with smaller homes or apartments. An interior decorator has the expertise to transform small, cluttered areas into organized, functional spaces. They excel at space planning, ensuring that furniture is placed in a way that maximizes traffic flow, creates a sense of openness, and enhances the room's purpose.
An often-overlooked benefit of hiring an interior decorator is the access they provide to trade discounts and exclusive deals. Many decorators have established relationships with furniture manufacturers, wholesalers, and suppliers, which allows them to offer lower prices on high-quality pieces that might otherwise be out of reach for regular consumers. These discounts can apply to furniture, lighting, fabrics, and accessories, providing a financial advantage while still allowing you to achieve a luxurious, designer-level look.
Whether you have a small bedroom, a closed-off living area, or an awkwardly shaped room, decorators can help you make the most of the available square footage. They can recommend space-saving furniture, innovative storage solutions, or rearrange the existing layout to optimize every inch of your home. Decorators also assist with accessorizing to elevate a space and make it more functional.
These trade discounts can also extend to services from skilled tradespeople, such as electricians,

inviting and well-maintained. By hiring a professional decorator to stage your home, you can ensure that it stands out in a competitive real estate market. Project Management & Stress Reduction Decorating a home often involves managing multiple tasks, such as sourcing furniture, coordinating with contractors, and overseeing deliveries. A decorator acts as a project manager, overseeing the entire process and ensuring that everything runs smoothly from start to finish. They coordinate with vendors, schedule deliveries, and ensure that the design vision is executed seamlessly.
Concept Development & Design Expertise Interior decorators have a deep understanding of design principles, colour theory, and Feng Shui. Whether it's deciding on the perfect colour palette for your living room or arranging your furniture for maximum comfort, decorators have the knowledge and experience to elevate your space. The process often begins with concept development, where decorators listen to your preferences, needs, and lifestyle before suggesting a design direction. They then help you select and source colours, furnishings, and accessories that tie everything together. Decorators also provide shopping services, making the entire decorating process seamless and stress-free. Stage Your Home to Sell For homeowners looking to sell, interior decorators can assist in staging a home to make it more appealing to potential buyers. Home staging involves creating a space that allows prospective buyers to envision themselves living there, and an interior decorator can help achieve this by selecting furnishings, artwork, and accessories that highlight the home’s best features. The process involves removing clutter, neutralizing bold colours, and arranging furniture in a way that maximizes the space and flow. A well-staged home often sells faster and for a higher price because it appears

THE POWER OF SELF-COMPASSION
R
by Sarah Glinski, RD
aise your hand if you say things to yourself that you would never dream of saying to a loved one (I know I'm guilty of this)! Fortunately, with tools like self-compassion, we can rewire our thought processes and learn to be gentle with ourselves.
For business owners who deal with the inevitable ups and downs of running a successful business, self-compassion is an essential skill to add to your self-care toolbox. In this article, I'll share what selfcompassion is, its benefits, and practical tips to foster self-compassion in your own life. What is Self-Compassion? Self-compassion is a way of relating to yourself with kindness and empathy. It involves treating yourself with the same amount of care and understanding that you might give to a close friend or family member. According to Dr. Kristin Neff, a leader in selfcompassion research, there are three components of self-compassion: self-kindness, common humanity, and mindfulness. Self-kindness involves treating yourself with warmth and understanding rather than criticism or judgment. This means being gentle with yourself when faced with difficult emotions or challenging situations and responding to yourself with compassion and empathy. Self-kindness also involves recognizing and accepting your flaws and imperfections rather than striving for perfection or constantly criticizing yourself (easier said than done, I know!). Common humanity involves recognizing that
18 | ISSUE 2 2025 | pursuit:365
everyone experiences suffering and difficulties and that your own struggles are part of the human experience. This means understanding that no one is perfect and that everyone goes through challenging times in life. By recognizing our shared humanity, we can feel less alone in our struggles and reduce feelings of isolation and self-blame. Mindfulness involves being present and nonjudgmental with your thoughts and emotions. This means observing your thoughts and feelings without judgment and being aware of them in a non-reactive way. By practicing mindfulness, you can become more aware of your thoughts and emotions and respond to them with greater clarity and wisdom. Benefits of Self-Compassion Research has shown that self-compassion is associated with several mental health benefits. Here are just some of the ways that self-compassion can benefit you: • • • • •
Reduces stress and anxiety Improves self-esteem Increases resilience Improves emotional regulation Enhances relationships
It's clear that practicing self-compassion has some pretty amazing benefits. But how can you incorporate it into your everyday life? Fortunately, it's not as complicated as you might think! Self-Compassion Exercise: How Would You Treat a Friend? Start by thinking about a time when a close friend felt bad about themselves. How would you respond to your friend in that situation? Think about not only what you would say, but how you would say it. Now, think about a time when you felt bad about yourself or were struggling. How do you respond to yourself in that situation? Think about not only what you would say, but how you would say it. Next, consider whether there’s a difference in how you speak to your friend versus how you talk to yourself. Why do you treat yourself so differently? Finally, think about how things might change if you gave yourself the same kindness and compassion that you gave a friend. The next time you’re struggling, try to talk to yourself like you would to a struggling friend. Practical Tips for Cultivating Self-Compassion
doesn't feel safe for you, please consider reaching out to a therapist who can help you navigate complex feelings. 4. Practice self-compassionate self-talk: Replace selfcritical thoughts with self-compassionate ones. For example, instead of thinking, “I’m so stupid for making that mistake,” try thinking, “It’s okay to make mistakes; I’m only human.” 5. Engage in self-care: Take care of yourself physically and emotionally. This could involve taking a bubble bath, going for a walk in nature, or listening to your favourite song. Final Thoughts Self-compassion is an essential tool we can use to cultivate greater self-love, acceptance and understanding. By recognizing and acknowledging our feelings, needs, and experiences with kindness and compassion, we can start to heal our inner wounds and develop a greater sense of inner peace and well-being. Remember, a self-compassion practice doesn't have to be complicated. The most important thing you can do is to just start. Even one moment of self-compassion during your busy day could be enough to significantly improve your well-being!
If you’re interested in incorporating self-compassion into your self-care routine, here are some practical tips to get started: 1. Practice self-kindness: Treat yourself with the same care and understanding you would give to a close friend or family member. This may involve talking to yourself with kindness and empathy or engaging in activities that bring you joy and comfort. 2. Recognize common humanity: Remember that everyone experiences suffering and difficulties and that you are not alone in your struggles. This can help reduce feelings of isolation and self-blame. 3. Practice mindfulness: Be present and nonjudgmental with your thoughts and emotions. This may involve practicing mindfulness meditations or taking a few moments throughout your day to pause and observe your thoughts and feelings without judgment. If observing your thoughts and feelings

JOURNEY TO A MAGICAL VALLEY by Toby Rogers
W
hat a journey. In a Magical Valley being published is a 20+ year story. I don't know where to begin but I will try.
When my kids were little, 8 and 4, we used to drive in the back alleys of the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver, which is an area with a very high proportion of people experiencing homelessness. We would go with the trunk of our car loaded up with jackets and blankets that were collected from our closets and from family and friends.
and once it was finished, I began to mail out photocopies to publishers that I researched in the library. This shows my age, as this was before the internet blew up! I received a few letters back, saying that my story wasn't what they were looking for. Then life got in the way, kids growing up, soccer and lacrosse practices, divorce, moving, restarting a new chapter, but this book stayed in my heart. Once again 10 years ago, 7 years ago and 5 years ago, I began sending the book out again to What he said stuck with me, and became the publishers, an easier task with email, but with the inspiration for my book. I have always loved same rejection responses. writing in rhyme as I have for birthday poems for During this time at my work, I asked if I could friends since we were 20 years old. start collecting jackets and blankets from coWriting In a Magical Valley was a great experience, workers. After approval from my place of work, On one of those deliveries, we came upon an unhoused gentleman who looked cold, so we stopped and I asked him if he was cold and would he like a jacket or a blanket to warm him up. His response was "I am OK, but there is a guy down the lane who needs one, can I take one for him?" I was overwhelmed by his kindness and thoughtfulness - that even though he didn't have much, he was more concerned with someone who had less.

the donations poured in from the very generous staff at the District of North Vancouver. Every October the collection would start for delivery in early December. Each year the generosity grew and grew until there was so much that delivery from just the trunk of my car was no longer possible. I needed help, and help was there. Bags of donations would start to pile under my desk early in the year, and we had to designate an unused office space to store it all. Staff would ask, "Can I bring kids' toys, kitchen stuff, work clothes, boots and shoes?" The answer was always yes, let's take it all and figure it out. After contacting The Lookout Shelter, Union Gospel Mission, Youth Safe House and North Shore Crisis Services Society we knew where to donate what was needed most.
the needs of each were met. We would gather up all the donations and fill a cube van full for each location and arrange drop off. When I changed jobs and started at the District of West Vancouver, the same staff spirit was felt and present, with donations there also filling an unused workspace for organizing and delivery. After my mom passed away in February 2022, I thought a lot about life and what we are meant to do in this world. It brought me back to my book. I sent it out to publishers again, and this time, it happened.
After working with Austin Macauley Publishers LLC on the illustrations and finalizing the words, my dream became a reality. Rejection is hard, but it only makes you stronger. Keep going, and never Time was spent sorting and organizing which give up on your dream. It will happen, no matter donations went to which place, to try to ensure how much rejection you face. You got this.

THE POWER OF A CUSTOM SUIT:
CONFIDENCE, STYLE, AND SUCCESS
H
by Michael Stephanski
ave you ever walked into a room and immediately felt like you owned it? That’s the power of a well-fitted suit. Clothing is more than just fabric—it’s a statement, an armor, and a reflection of who you are. A great suit isn’t just about appearance; it’s about how you feel when you wear it.
Why Fit Matters
The Confidence Factor
Every person has unique proportions, posture, and style preferences. A suit that fits well enhances your natural build, providing comfort and confidence. The right fit sharpens your silhouette, straightens your posture, and allows you to move with ease. When you feel comfortable in what you wear, it shows in the way you carry yourself.
Clothing isn’t just fabric—it’s energy. When you put on something that makes you feel strong and self-assured, that feeling radiates outward. Confidence isn’t about standing out—it’s about feeling comfortable in your own skin. A wellfitted suit can serve as a tool to help you step into any space with assurance and authenticity.
The Psychology of Dressing Well
Final Thoughts
What you wear influences how you feel. Studies have shown that dressing well improves self-esteem and even impacts how others perceive you. The way a suit fits can give a sense of empowerment, whether you're walking into a business meeting, attending a wedding, or making a first impression. It’s not about impressing others—it’s about feeling your best.
Style is not about trends; it’s about how you feel when you wear something that truly represents you. When clothing fits well, it allows you to express yourself naturally and confidently. It’s not about what you wear—it’s about how you wear it. Own your presence, embrace your style, and walk through life with confidence.
A Reflection of Personal Style Style is personal. The details in your clothing can be an expression of who you are, whether it’s a classic look or a modern touch. Individuality can be found in the way fabric drapes, the cut of a lapel, or even the way you choose to accessorize. Clothing isn’t just about covering the body; it’s about telling your story.

If you could create a signature beauty 1 P365: product inspired by your own personality, what would it be called, and what would it do? LeiLani: "Resilience Veil"—a multi-purpose complexion product that embodies strength, transformation, and natural beauty. It would be a hydrating skin perfector that acts as a primer, color corrector, and skincare treatment in one. Infused with botanical extracts, it would adapt to different skin tones while balancing and brightening the complexion—perfect for those experiencing skin changes due to menopause, environmental stressors, or hormonal shifts. What’s one beauty myth that drives 2 P365: you crazy, and what’s the truth behind it? LeiLani: The myth that drives me crazy is that mature skin should avoid makeup because it "settles into fine lines." The truth is, it’s not about age—it’s about using the right formulas. Heavy, drying products can emphasize texture, but lightweight, hydrating, and skincare-infused makeup enhances the skin beautifully. That’s why I focus on plantpowered formulations that nourish while providing seamless coverage—so everyone, at any age, can feel confident in their skin.

THE HIDDEN COSTS OF CREATING A CHILDREN'S BOOK: LESSONS FROM THE TRENCHES When a mother-daughter passion project about bunny poo became a masterclass in what not to do by Jonica van Rikxoort
C
reating a children's book to honor my mother's legacy seemed like a beautiful idea as she battled stage four cancer. What I never anticipated was the labyrinth of costly pitfalls awaiting an inexperienced author navigating the publishing world alone.
"I essentially became chief cook and bottle washer," I laugh and cry when recalling the endless hours of designing, editing, and project management that consumed my life. "I was, and still am, learning myself!" My mother, Teri Baker, was not only a talented writer but my best friend. We wrote together (mainly she did). I considered her my sounding board and cheerleader. When the circle of life did its job I was then all alone anticipating the next step but with an empty heart We did everything together, raising my kids, living life and thinking we could write a children's book. Our dreams were endless. Our dreams lead us to relocate from North Vancouver to the Okanagan, where we were struck by a peculiar
30 | ISSUE 2 2025 | pursuit:365
local phenomenon: an overrun of abandoned pet rabbits hopping freely through neighborhoods. "You know that cartoon where the coyote puts a bib around his neck with a knife and fork in his paws? My imagination went straight there when I read about rabbits running rampant in Kelowna,". This observation sparked what would later become our illustrated adventure: "What If Bunny Poo Was Square?" The story follows little Marcie, who wanted just one rabbit but ended up with a multiplication crisis
on her hands. The moral? "Don't bite off more than you can chew"—a lesson that would ironically mirror our publishing journey. Life imitating art, indeed. When Dreams Meet Reality We secured a genuinely talented illustrator and after a lengthy process created a vibrant, playful children's book. My ambitious vision included a trilogy, but that dream quickly dissolved under mounting costs and the shadow of mom's declining health. "Was it costly? It sure was!". "Could I have used Fiverr? Yes, and I tried, but many of those artists live overseas and, boy oh boy, do they play you!" and you have no artist control as they live so far away. Despite creating a website and video content featuring my mother, without social media expertise, I discovered that even the most heartfelt project can struggle to find its audience. I was left with an office full of books, my mother exhausted from her health battles, and an illustrator who hadn't signed up for such an emotional journey. The Illustrator Relationship: A Cautionary Tale When creating a children's book, illustrations often carry as much weight as—if not more than—the text itself. "I found someone I truly believed was a perfect fit and arranged a meeting with Mom and myself. "But I hadn't expected the illustrator to be so busy and so my expectations of working 24/7 around the clock together caused friction." My urgency was Teri’s cancer, hers a full time job and a family. Though we eventually worked through our differences, the experience taught me a valuable lesson: unrealistic timelines invite disaster. "Mom's health and my industry inexperience backfired like Marcie's 'Pooper Scooper'!" I say with a rueful smile. Fortunately, everything came
together in the end, allowing mom to see and promote our finished work—but at considerable cost. In my excitement, I made a critical error: signing a contract that didn't reflect reality. "I can be challenging to work with—I admit that, I'm a perfectionist (Virgo/ Libra)," But add a time bomb waiting to go off (moms health) looking back, it was just too much stress. My advice to a newbie? Take time to find an illustrator whose style aligns with your vision. Request sample sketches before committing. Establish clear communication channels and document specific expectations. "And don't have a loved one dying of cancer and expect others will care as much as you do!”. Production Costs: Premium Isn't Always Better For my first 300-book print run, I insisted on premium everything—paper quality, binding, cover stock— without understanding which elements truly mattered to young readers and their parents. "My first print run cost nearly triple what was necessary," I admit, "resulting in books that were too expensive to sell profitably. I ended up giving books away at events just to gain visibility!" I was trying to get the book in everyone's hands hoping it would explode in the market. But alas it was no JK Rawlings success story. Amazon became my next step going the printing and distribution channel, but it came with significant royalty costs. "If you're not marketing effectively, your book just sits there generating no income." Marketing Missteps: When Passion Isn't Enough Perhaps my most painful lesson came from hiring a marketing consultant company who charged premium rates but delivered generic strategies. At this point I just needed someone to work beside as mom was gone

and I needed to throw ideas off someone. But it came at a massive cost and I ended up firing them. "Ask to see what other children's books they've successfully promoted," I advise emphatically. "Without clear metrics or focused objectives, you're just throwing money away."
practice to promote a book,", hint, hint. "I am now collaborating with someone and excited to make the reveal very soon." In the meantime and in between, I shall leave you for now with Teri Baker’s signature storybook ending, because her story is truly, NEVER THE END...
I ended up doing a bit of footwork and found success through grassroots efforts: "I was fortunate to get into some libraries and schools across the Okanagan. So when I visited schools with our book, kids already knew about the 'Bunny Poo book'!" Which felt like a small win at long last. A Mother's Legacy Teri Baker, my mother, left behind a treasure trove of writings—stories about fairies, bullying, and comingof-age tales created throughout her 90 years of life. It breaks my heart that if I did nothing with them, no one would ever see how brilliant she was. I hope to find a publisher one day to share her talent with the world. Since Mom's passing, I've struggled to return to promoting the book full-time. With Teri not not beside me anymore with all her fun and zany antics it's been difficult to market the books as she was my shining star! But after six years of grieving and planning my next move, I'm cautiously returning to the project with a renewed perspective. "A toy, doll, or game is common

INTERVIEW WITH:
LINDSAY
INTUITIVE COACHING & DIGITAL MARKETING EXPERT
I
by Megan Sewell
n our new “member spotlight” section, we will be showcasing Pursuit 365 members who are doing amazing things in their businesses. Today, I am interviewing Lindsay O’Donnell, an Entrepreneur who shut down her successful digital marketing agency that she ran for 8 years to become an intuitive marketing coach where she helps clients find the right tactics and strategies for them while removing any invisible mindset blocks. Megan: Thank you so much, Lindsay, for meeting with me today for our Pursuit 365 written interview. Let’s start with something fun—tell me something silly or different that you did recently that people wouldn’t know about just from following you online. Lindsay: Well, I’m learning Chinese! Megan: Very cool! Learning a new language is on my list too. Is this for a trip you’re planning or just for fun to exercise your brain? Lindsay: I’ve been learning it on and off for a few years, but now I really want to go to Taiwan and go surfing there. That’s kind of reigniting my motivation—not just to learn the language but also to get back into surfing, which is another challenge on its own.
36 | ISSUE 2 2025 | pursuit:365
Megan: That’s awesome! Learning a language and surfing—both challenging, but I love that you’re diving into them together. Intuitive Coaching & Digital Marketing: The Magic of Combining Both Megan: So today, we’re chatting about your digital marketing agency. One of the things that first caught my attention when I came across your work on LinkedIn was the intuitive coaching aspect. There’s a lot of digital marketing out there in 2025, but that intuitive piece really stood out to me. Could you explain a bit more about what that means? Lindsay: Sure! So, I actually started out doing straight
intuitive readings. People would send me a picture, and I’d get a sense of things—whether it was clarifying a relationship, identifying energy blocks, or helping them see what was really happening in their life. It was never negative, just about gaining clarity.
are removed, everything becomes clearer—marketing, business direction, even life decisions.
At the same time, I was running a marketing agency and consulting with business owners. I eventually shut down my agency but found myself coaching and consulting more and more. That’s when I realized I was using my intuitive abilities a lot in those business conversations—helping people with strategy while also seeing what was really holding them back.
Megan: That makes so much sense. Speaking of mindset, you’ve also written an eBook that ties all of these concepts together. Can you tell us more about that?
Mindset Blocks & How They Show Up in Business
Lindsay: Yes! The eBook covers some of the most
I later took an intuitive coaching course, which helped me refine my approach. The main difference between intuitive readings and intuitive coaching is that readings are more like “here’s what I see,” whereas coaching is about pulling the thread to uncover the real issue. For example, someone might come to me saying, “I need help figuring out my niche,” but by the end of the session, they realize, “I actually want to be a stand-up comedian.” Megan: I love that! That’s a perfect example of how powerful intuitive coaching can be— it helps people uncover their real desires, even when they think their issue is just about business. Lindsay: Exactly! In that case, the issue wasn’t his niche—it was that he wasn’t passionate about his business anymore. So I helped him figure out a plan: make money in the short term while building his comedy career. There’s no point in struggling to grow something you don’t love, especially if it’s not making money. Often, people can’t see what’s right in front of them, and that’s where intuitive coaching is so valuable. My mentor once described it as being like a rearview mirror behind your head—you need someone else to point out what you’re not seeing. Once those blocks
pursuit:365 | ISSUE 2 2025 | 37
common mindset blocks that show up in business and marketing. One big one is the scarcity mindset, which can lead entrepreneurs to micromanage everything or try to control every aspect of their business. For example, you might see marketing strategies where people stuff every single piece of information onto one landing page—discounts, credentials, fair trade labels—because they fear they won’t get another chance to convert a customer. That’s a scarcity mindset in action. Another one is fear-based control, where business owners micromanage their teams instead of focusing on their own high-level work. It’s often because of imposter syndrome—they’re afraid to step into their real role, so they stay busy with everything else instead. Megan: I love that insight! We’ve all seen those cluttered marketing pages, and we’ve all probably had moments where we’ve tried to control too much. You said your eBook covers 5 or 6 of these blocks—are there more that you commonly see? Lindsay: There are about 10 common mindset blocks, but in the eBook, I focus on the most frequent ones and how they show up in marketing and business. Once you recognize them, you can start shifting your approach. How to Work with Lindsay: Intuitive Coaching & Digital Marketing Megan: So, for someone who’s interested in working with you, how does it work? Do they get to choose between intuitive coaching and digital marketing, or do you let the conversation flow? Lindsay: I let the conversation flow. Most people come to me when they’ve tried everything and nothing is working. They’re not totally sure what’s blocking them—they just know something is off. I offer a 20-minute discovery call where I help pinpoint the issue. If it resonates, they can book a full session where we go deeper. Some clients work with me for 3-6 months, meeting twice a week, to really unpack their
38 | ISSUE 2 2025 | pursuit:365
mindset blocks and integrate intuitive coaching with strategy. Megan: That’s so valuable because, as you said, these blocks affect more than just business—they show up in how people show up in the world. Lindsay: Exactly! The goal is to heal what’s holding you back so that you can move forward with clarity and confidence. Where to Connect with Lindsay Megan: For those who want to connect, what’s the best way to reach you? Lindsay: My Instagram and LinkedIn are the best places. I’m on Instagram daily, and I love keeping up with my network on LinkedIn. Megan: Perfect! We’ll include all the links in this article. Before we wrap up, is there anything else you’d like people to know? Lindsay: I’d just say—if you’re an entrepreneur or a marketer, you’re already open to growth. You’ve probably tried everything, so why not try something new? A 20-minute session might change your perspective completely. I’ve had some incredible breakthroughs with clients, and I’d love to help more people experience that. Megan: That’s amazing! I’ll be booking a session with you soon—I’m so excited to experience this firsthand. Thank you so much for joining us today! Lindsay: Thank you, Megan! This was so much fun!

THE FABULOSITY FLIP: TRANSFORMING YOUR INNER NARRATIVE
W
by Jai Harvey-Yin
e all have moments. Moments where we feel like we’re not enough. Where doubt whispers louder than dreams. Where we sit in the messy middle between where we are and where we long to be. And in those moments, our inner voice—our narrative—can either anchor us in fear or free us to rise.
As a Mindset Maven and Transformational Biz Coach, I’ve worked with hundreds of women who seem outwardly successful but feel inwardly stuck. They know they’re capable of more, but something invisible holds them back. It’s rarely a lack of skill or strategy. Most often, it’s a narrative issue. A loop of limiting thoughts quietly playing in the background. That’s where The Fabulosity Flip comes in. It’s a three-step method I developed to help women not only recognize their limiting beliefs but to lovingly reframe them, rewrite them, and reclaim their power in the process. It’s mindset alchemy with a splash of sparkle—a method that’s both practical and infused with a little magic.
our emotions. To stay strong, smile, and carry on. But true transformation begins when we pause and feel what’s really going on. Not to wallow in it, but to acknowledge it. Emotions are messengers. They reveal the inner story that’s currently running the show.
Step 1: Feel the Feels & Ask: “Why Do I Feel This Way?”
When a client says, “I feel like I’m failing,” I don’t rush to cheerlead. I ask, “Where is that feeling coming from?” Often, a buried belief rises: “I’m not doing enough,” or “I’m not where I thought I’d be by now.”
Let’s be honest—most of us were taught to push down
By honouring the feeling and digging beneath it, we
40 | ISSUE 2 2025 | pursuit:365
uncover the core belief driving the emotional charge. This is where clarity begins. Step 2: Reflect & Reframe Once the belief surfaces, we get curious. Is it true? Is it helpful? Where did it come from? So often, we’re walking around with beliefs handed to us by someone else—society, family, school, an old boss. This is the moment to pause and choose. Will I keep carrying this story, or is it time to write a new one? This is where the magic starts to sparkle. We reframe not with false positivity, but with intentional truth. A new belief that feels real, empowering, and possible. Instead of “I’m failing,” we shift to: “I’m learning through this,” or “I’m evolving in ways I can’t yet see.” It’s not about pretending things are perfect—it’s about telling the truth in a more loving, expansive way. Step 3: Speak the New Narrative Into Being Words hold power. The stories we tell ourselves shape our emotions, our actions, and ultimately, our lives. Once we’ve reframed the belief, it’s time to give it voice. Not just once, but daily. Consistently. With intention. This can be as simple as a spoken affirmation, a sticky note on your mirror, or a voice memo you replay in the morning. What matters is that you’re choosing your narrative, consciously. When a client reframes a belief to “I trust myself to figure this out,” and repeats it daily, she begins to act in alignment with it. Confidence grows. Action follows. And momentum builds.
This is the power of the flip. Why Fabulosity? You might be wondering—why “Fabulosity?” Why not just call it a mindset shift? Because “mindset shift” sounds clinical. And this work is anything but. It’s heart work. Soul work. Sparkle work. Fabulosity is about owning your magic. Your wholeness. Your enough-ness. It’s not about fixing yourself—it’s about flipping the script to remember who you’ve always been underneath the noise. It’s cheeky, it’s empowering, and yes—it’s a little fabulous. When we flip the old story into something more soulaligned, we don’t just feel better—we become magnetic. Aligned. Unstoppable. A Personal Example I remember a time when I was launching a new program and the sign-ups weren’t flowing. My inner narrative began whispering, “Maybe I’m not relevant anymore. Maybe I’ve lost my touch.” Old Jai might have powered through or shut down. But this Jai paused. I felt the sting of those doubts, named them, and asked, “Why do I feel this way?” I realized I was tying my worth to numbers. That belief? Not helpful. Not true. I reframed it: “My value isn’t measured by external results. My work is powerful, and the right people are finding it in divine timing.” I repeated that to myself every day. I chose it. I lived it. And you know what? The energy shifted. The signups came. Not because I hustled harder, but because I
pursuit:365 | ISSUE 2 2025 | 41
flipped the story—and my energy followed.
Want to See the Fabulosity Flip in Action?
How You Can Use It
Each week inside the Soul Alchemy Codex, I share real-life examples of the Fabulosity Flip—stories from women just like you who are rewriting their narratives, reclaiming their power, and stepping into their nextlevel self.
Start small. Notice a recurring negative thought or emotion. Don’t judge it. Feel it. Ask it what it’s trying to tell you. Then lovingly, curiously, ask if that story still serves you. If not, flip it. Even just a little. And then speak that new story aloud. Not once, but over and over until it becomes your truth. This is the Fabulosity Flip. It’s mindset alchemy with glitter on top. And it changes everything. Because when you shift your story, you shift your reality. And that, my friend, is the magic of you.
The Codex isn’t just a newsletter—it’s your personal dose of mindset magic, energy tools, practical woo, and heart-based reminders that you’re not alone in this. You’ll get affirmations, journal prompts, mini rituals, and mindset reframes to help you flip your own script every week. BREAKING BARRIERS, ONE FRAME AT A TIME WITH CAMERAS FOR GIRLS by Amina Mohamed
In many parts of Africa, a journalism degree is not enough to open the door to a career, especially for women.
W
hen Sharon Kyatusiimire graduated from Makerere University in Uganda, she was caught in a system stacked against her by deep-rooted gender inequality in the male-dominated media space. Despite her education, media houses demanded practical photography skills she had not been given in her university program, and her lack of access to professional equipment kept her from even being considered for work. Like so many young women, Sharon faced a gender-based barrier that was as heavy as it was invisible: the expectation that she come prepared without anyone offering the tools she needed. This is not just Sharon's story. It is the story of countless women across Africa. At Cameras For Girls, we are working to break this cycle. Our four-phase program gives young women the tools, skills, and opportunities they need to
44 | ISSUE 2 2025 | pursuit:365
compete in the media industry. Each participant receives a camera and learns technical photography, ethical storytelling, business skills, and how to access paid work. We are not just teaching photography but challenging the barriers that have kept women out of the media for far too long. Ethical storytelling is at the heart of everything we do. Teaching technical skills alone is insufficient without teaching responsibility in writing and reporting stories. Our students learn to approach storytelling with dignity, build trust with communities, and share stories that respect the people behind the images. We push back against the historically one-sided narratives too often told about Africa by giving young women the tools to tell their own stories rooted in truth, agency, and strength. Sharon's Story
Through Cameras For Girls, Sharon finally received the camera and the training she needed. She learned to photograph with precision, center dignity and agency in her stories, and confidently navigate the media space. Most importantly, she gained access to work, networks, and the chance to be seen and hired as a professional. Her journey took a significant turn when she was mentored by Tiffany Orner, a supporter of our Creators Program, our Monthly Donor Program. With Tiffany's guidance, Sharon refined her skills and was invited to write for an international audience. Today, she earns an income in US dollars, supporting the education of her two children and building a future beyond the poverty cycle that holds so many young women back. Sharon's success is about more than photography. It is about breaking down barriers that keep women out of male-dominated industries and taking real steps toward gender equality. Her story is not one of charity. It is a story of agency, resilience, and opportunity made possible by providing the right tools at the right time.

Cameras For Girls is working to change that by addressing the root causes: lack of access, gender bias, and underrepresentation. When a girl has a camera and the opportunity to use it, she is not just telling her story. She is claiming her future. Join Us Through our Creators Program, you can be part of this change. THE SEASONS OF CHANGE:
NATURE’S PATHWAY TO HEALING
A
by Raya Karin
s the earth shifts through her natural rhythms—blooming, flourishing, shedding, and resting—so do we. Each season carries a sacred invitation to evolve, to heal, to reconnect with our true selves. Nature is not only our mirror but also our most profound teacher, gently guiding us through our own seasons of life. From spring’s tender rebirth to winter’s deep stillness, and through the sacred wisdom of the five elements, nature offers a powerful blueprint for holistic healing. When we listen, she speaks not only to our bodies, but to our hearts, minds, and spirits. Spring: A Season of Rebirth and Renewal There is a quiet magic in the way spring returns—softly, surely, and full of hope. After months of stillness, the earth begins to bloom again, and so can we. Spring invites us to release the weight of the past and step into fresh beginnings. It’s a time for intention-setting, dreaming bigger, and embracing growth. Whether you’re planting seeds in a garden or simply walking among budding trees, spring reconnects us with vitality. The energy is expansive, inspiring us to awaken parts of ourselves that have been resting in the dark. Summer: A Season of Joy and Connection With its long golden days and radiant energy, summer
46 | ISSUE 2 2025 | pursuit:365
is a celebration of life. It’s a season of warmth—within and around us. The sun coaxes us outdoors, into community, into shared laughter and connection. Summer invites us to play, to love, to relish the abundance we’ve cultivated. It’s also a powerful time to deepen relationships—with others, with nature, and with ourselves. The energy is bold and active, encouraging expression, creativity, and joy that is best when shared. Autumn: A Season of Reflection and Release As the leaves turn fiery shades of orange, red, and gold, nature teaches us the grace of letting go. Autumn is a season of release—of honoring what was, and gently making space for what’s next. It’s a time
of harvesting, integrating, and reflecting on the growth we’ve experienced. There is beauty in the falling. In slowing down. In shedding what no longer serves. Autumn whispers that transformation often requires surrender, and that true healing begins when we make room for it. Winter: A Season of Rest and Stillness In winter, the world softens. The days are quiet, the nights are long, and everything invites us inward. Rest is not laziness—it is essential. Winter gives us permission to pause, to turn toward our inner world, to nourish what lies beneath the surface. This is the season of deep listening—of journaling, reading, meditating, and simply being. In the stillness, we prepare for the rebirth that spring will bring. Winter reminds us: healing happens in the quiet spaces. The Five Elements: Nature’s Timeless Healing Tools Beyond the seasons, nature offers us her elements— each a powerful, energetic medicine for body, mind, and spirit. Earth – Grounding & Belonging The earth roots us. She holds us steady when life feels unbalanced. When we walk barefoot, rest beneath trees, or simply sit on solid ground, we reconnect with our foundations and feel safe, whole, and supported.
Air – Clarity & Breath of Life Air moves through us as breath, bringing clarity and perspective. It reminds us to pause, to inhale deeply, and to let go. In the fresh wind or a mindful breath, air clears space for inspiration and peace. Ether – Spirit & Connection Ether is the sacred space between all things—the essence of spirit and soul. It connects us to something greater, reminding us of our place in the universe. In moments of silence, meditation, or awe, ether invites us home to ourselves. Presence: The Heart of Healing In a world of constant movement, presence is a radical return to wholeness. When we slow down and truly arrive in the moment, we awaken the body’s innate healing wisdom. Presence is where peace lives, where emotions soften, and where our true self breathes freely. You don’t need to do more—you just need to be. Nature knows this. And when you let yourself rest in the simplicity of now, the healing begins. A Sensory Return to Wholeness Healing doesn’t live only in the mind—it lives in the senses. What you feel, hear, taste, see, and touch are portals to presence. In nature, these senses awaken effortlessly. The scent of pine, the texture of bark, the sound of birdsong—all bring us home. Your body is wise. Your senses are sacred. And through them, nature reminds you: you are whole, you are held, and you are already enough.
Water – Emotional Flow & Cleansing Water teaches us to soften and surrender. Whether it’s the ocean, a river, or a healing bath, water helps us release what we’ve been carrying and invites emotional renewal. It connects us to our intuition, heart, and inner flow. Fire – Transformation & Empowerment Fire is the energy of change. It burns away what no longer serves and ignites our inner strength. Candlelight, fire ceremonies, or even a warm flame can be powerful tools for transformation, courage, and creativity.
After 3 decades working in traditional therapy spaces Raya followed her inner pull to do work outside of these spaces! Leaning into her light, her desire to help others in a bigger way she trusted the doors that were opening. As an empath, highly sensitive person and intuitive she knew there was a much deeper more soulful journey for healing, transformation and change. Healing is not linear nor does it have a time restriction.

SHIFTING FROM CHAOS TO CLARITY
E
by Mandeep Fontaine
ver have days when you stop and think ‘Just what the heck am I doing?’. I did. Life was becoming increasingly stressful, filled with endless distractions and conflicting priorities. I was feeling pulled in so many different directions by work demands and social obligations, in addition to trying to take care of my mental and physical health.
I was overwhelmed. I needed to take a step back and re-evaluate my priorities. I reflected back on my counselling days when I guided clients on how to achieve clarity in their lives when they were feeling confused and lost. It was time to take my own advice. Luckily, achieving clarity in life does not have to be a daunting task. Here are three strategic steps that helped guide me towards living a meaningful and purposeful life. Get Clear on Your Values Let’s set the basic foundation. What do you value in life? Values are the core beliefs or principles that guide a person’s decisions, behaviors, and actions. They involve ongoing action and help guide our lives in different areas including: relationships, career, education, health, personal growth and community. Are you content in each of these areas? What needs to shift? What types of relationships do you want to build? Do you need to make a change in your career? Is health a priority? Identifying your values is the first step in understanding what truly drives you and helps you define what you want your life to look like. I recognized that I really valued my health and this needed the biggest shift. I was veering away from practicing healthy living behaviours and focusing 50 | ISSUE 2 2025 | pursuit:365
more on work. And this was becoming evident by my mental exhaustion. I also wanted to nurture certain relationships in my life and honour my introverted energy. I wanted to be intentional about who I spent my time with. As you go through this exercise, it will become clear which values are not in alignment in your current life. It will also help you consider which values are important to you versus what you may have unconsciously adopted from the people around you including family, friends or society. For example, your parents may have raised you with the value that obtaining higher education is important. But you may realize that this is not in alignment with your values. It’s important to remember that your values can differ from the people around you, and that’s ok. Align Goals with your Values Once you have identified your core values and which ones are out of alignment in your current life, focus on setting specific goals that are meaningful to you. Ask yourself ‘Is this goal in alignment with my values?’ I was not living in alignment with my health, relationships and work, so I chose to make goaIs that
focused on these areas and made them meaningful to me. I don’t like going to the gym, so I was not going to force myself to do this. If I set this as my goaI, I would never have been successful! I picked alternative activities that I enjoy. I decided to incorporate walking and meditation into my routine a few days a week. By doing this, I intentionally gave myself a break from staring at the screen and sitting for long periods of time. I also established clear boundaries with work, so I could be more physically and mentally present to nurture the important relationships in my life. Setting realistic and meaningful goals aligned with your values will not only increase your chance of success but also lead to a deeper sense of satisfaction. You’ll feel more motivated to pursue your goals, knowing that you actually want to do them! Evaluate Your Progress Checking in with yourself is crucial, so do not set it and forget it! Evaluate your progress regularly and assess if you are continuing to live in alignment with your values.
meditation was improving my mental health and actually gave me more clarity! So I was definitely continuing to live in alignment. Remember to be kind to yourself. You do not need to be aligned with your values 100% of the time. Values can shift, depending on your stage of life and circumstances. Evaluate what small adjustments need to happen so that you can live a more meaningful life, and always just do the best that you can. Conclusion We are evolving human beings who seek to live a life of purpose, joy and fulfillment. Living in alignment with your values does not have to involve making major changes all at once, but you can start by taking one small step at a time. Find clarity by getting clear on your values, aligning your goals with those values, and evaluating your progress. Getting clarity does not mean perfection. It is about recognizing what matters to you and staying true to who you are.
Ask yourself: Am I living in a way that reflects my core beliefs? Are the goals I’ve set truly serving the life I want to live? What areas of my life are out of alignment with my values, and how can I shift? If your goal was to maintain a healthy lifestyle, ask yourself: has playing pickleball everyday helped me achieve this goal? Maybe playing it everyday was not realistic, so make an adjustment to perhaps once a week or switch to a different activity that is not as strenuous. Sometimes less is more. I noticed that walking and

THE THERAPEUTIC VALUE OF SPRING CLEANING by Alyson Jones
A
s the warm weather returns the windows are being thrown open to let the fresh air in again, and with this breath of fragrant air comes the chance to put our homes and our lives in order. But this time of renewal is not just for the spaces around us, it is also for the spaces within us. As a Registered Clinical Counsellor, I am always assisting people with letting go and opening new space in their lives. In my book, “M.O.R.E. A New Philosophy for Exceptional Living”, I share ideas on how to get unstuck in life. I explain that MORE is an acronym for movement, opportunity, reality and exceptional outcomes. Many of us may find ourselves feeling overwhelmed and stuck in the physical, financial and emotional clutter in our lives, but avoidance always makes things worse. So rather than “sweep it under the carpet,” let this time of the year be the opportunity to move back to the center of your life. Here are some tips for how to utilize spring as an opportunity to declutter both the physical and emotional worlds. 1. Our physical surroundings often mirror our internal world, so remember that a calm and clean space around you can create a calm and
54 | ISSUE 2 2025 | pursuit:365
clean space within you. When we clear out the junk and distractions around us, we are creating open space in our minds as well. 2. Be honest with yourself about the cost of clutter. If you are wanting more time for yourself, or with your loved ones, face the reality that disorganization and chaos may be robbing you of the time you crave, as well as getting in the way of your priorities. 3. If you are living with others, get everyone involved in the spring cleaning. Make it a family affair if possible. If you are parent, spring cleaning is a great opportunity to teach your children valuable life skills about self-care and time/space
management. It is always exciting when you can teach your children practical skills that result in personal growth. 4. Stay focused. If you live on your own, or are unable to gather the troops, then start the process anyways. Make a list and then complete a task on the list before moving on to another. It is best to start in one room and complete the cleaning and decluttering required in that room before moving off to the next room. It gives you a sense of accomplishment when you complete the room. Things move quicker if you stay focused on one project or room at a time. 5. Make cleaning and decluttering fun. Put away the cell phones and emails and turn on your favorite music. If you feel like doing some dancing then do so, and allow yourself some treats and rewards along the way.
6. If you do not use something, want it or need it then get rid of it. When doing your spring cleaning create categories for donation, trash or recycling. When you actually see how much useless stuff you have it will help you become more conscious of what you bring into your space in the future. Remember, if you have not used it in a year, stuff becomes junk. 7. Know how to let go. Have a list of pending projects for the future, but know how to close that file so you can be in the present. If you try to keep it all in your mind it will become far too overwhelming. Spring cleaning is a great opportunity to embrace the life you have and move forward in a powerful and conscious manner. Get your dusters ready…and go!

RAISING KIDS WITH RESILIENT MINDS: WHY EXECUTIVE FUNCTION SKILLS MATTER MORE THAN EVER by Nadine Hope
Executive Function (EF) skills are like the brain’s “management system.” They help us regulate emotions, stay organized, plan ahead, and adapt when life doesn’t go as planned (which, let’s be honest, is daily). When EF skills are developing well, you’ll notice: • • • • • • •
Remembering routines without 37 reminders Waiting to share random stories until it’s their turn Starting tasks without launching into a Shakespearean drama about how unfair life is When EF skills are lagging, you’ll see: Meltdowns when plans change (“But I always sit THERE!”) Skipping instructions halfway through Struggling to switch tasks without a shutdown
Spoiler: EF skills aren't fully wired until our midtwenties. (Ever wonder why your 22-year-old can’t find their keys?)
Screens, Classrooms, and Why Kids Are Struggling More Classrooms today are BUSY — colourful posters, anchor charts, noise everywhere. Meanwhile, kids 56 | ISSUE 2 2025 | pursuit:365
are expected to sit for long lessons with an attention span of 6–10 minutes, depending on age. Add screens to the mix — little dopamine slot machines lighting up tiny brains, training them for instant gratification. No app — no matter how “brainboosting” — replaces a caregiver’s gaze, a bear hug, or a kitchen table conversation. Connection grows brains. (No WiFi needed.)
Inhibitory Control: Teaching the Art of “Pause” Inhibitory control is the ability to pause — to not blurt out juicy gossip about a puppy during math class. Kids today need lots of practice in: • • •
Waiting without vibrating like a tuning fork Handling a full Play-Doh table without despair Rolling with changes when a best friend is away
By letting kids feel frustration (and recover), we're teaching them one of life’s greatest skills: resilience.
A fixed mindset (“I’m just bad at this”) builds frustration. Resilience is a muscle. And muscles grow with use.
Flexible Thinking & Working Memory:
Why No App Will Ever Replace You
Your Little Paparazzi Are Always Watching. Working memory is your brain’s sticky note. It helps with remembering simple instructions like, “Get your library book, then line up.” Without it? A squirrel runs by — and that's it.
Screens are everywhere. But here’s the truth:
Flexible thinking helps children adapt when things don’t go just so — the wrong juice box, a different seat at circle time, no toy at the store today.
•
Kids are always watching us, especially when we think they're not. Next time you’re out of morning coffee (small crisis, right?), model: • •
Patience (“Ugh, a little cranky without my coffee.”) Flexibility (“I’ll grab tea instead — still a good day!”)
Tiny moments = huge learning for developing brains.
Neuroplasticity and Growth Mindset: How Practice Changes the Brain Here’s the hope: The brain is “plastic” (malleable) — it can grow and change based on experience. (Think Play-Doh, not concrete.) Is your child stubborn? Maybe. Or maybe they just haven’t practiced tolerating hard things yet. Helping kids build EF skills means helping them handle boredom, wait longer for rewards, and even fail sometimes. It’s not about getting it right — it’s about practicing. A growth mindset (“I can learn with practice”) builds grit.
• •
•
No app replaces you. (Ditch the math app — play cards instead.) No app replaces the steady, loving presence of a caregiver. Your child doesn’t need “the latest attentionboosting app.” They need you — messy, imperfect, in-progress you.
Final Thoughts: Slow It Down, Simplify, and Watch Them Soar Most of us aren’t raising the next NHL star — and that’s okay. Extracurriculars should be about discovery and joy, not résumé-building. Instead: • Simplify your child's world • Create peaceful spaces • Celebrate small wins (and losses) • Let them feel safe frustration and boredom without fixing it immediately • Because today’s world is fast, noisy, and overwhelming. Simplifying isn’t just good — it’s the key to raising resilient, thriving kids. Nadine Hope is a Learning Support and Inclusion Teacher, Executive Function Coach, and mom who’s passionate about helping kids — and their grown-ups — discover how amazing their brains really are. She knows that Happy Kids = Happy Moms! I hold a B.A., B.Ed., and a Diploma in Special Education from UBC. With experience as a classroom teacher, district inclusion specialist, and now elementary Learning Support teacher, I know what it takes to build real growth.

MENOPAUSE, ABUSE & REWRITING YOUR STORY by Susan Sheehan
Menopause isn’t just a phase—it’s a turning point. For many women, this stage of life brings more than just physical changes. It is often the moment when deep-seated emotions, past traumas, and hidden wounds rise to the surface. Many women find themselves confronting long-ignored pain, including the reality of past abuse, whether emotional, physical, or psychological. It’s a time when we either remain trapped in old cycles—or choose to take control and create a new future. For years, I lived with patterns I didn’t even realize were shaping my life. I had learned to survive, to suppress, to keep going. But when my body changed, so did my mind. I could no longer silence the voice inside me that whispered, there is more for you than this. The Hidden Truth of Menopause While we navigate hot flashes, mood swings, and brain fog, something deeper is happening beneath the surface. Menopause often brings clarity—a realization that the life we’ve been living may no longer serve us. It forces us to reflect on our past, our choices, and our relationships. Many women recognize abuse for the first time during menopause, understanding how long they have endured toxic cycles of control, neglect, or self-doubt. Others finally gather the courage to break free. It’s also a time when we start asking new questions: •
Who am I beyond the roles I’ve played?
60 | ISSUE 2 2025 | pursuit:365
• • •
What do I really want? How did I allow myself to stay in situations that diminished me? How do I take control and create a future that is mine?
This stage of life presents a unique opportunity to rewrite the narrative. To break free from outdated beliefs, step into confidence, and build a future where you feel strong, capable, and in control. The Intersection of Menopause and Trauma Why do past traumas and hidden wounds often emerge during menopause? The hormonal changes we experience are not just about physical discomfort—they also affect our emotions, brain function, and nervous system. The body holds onto trauma, and when estrogen and progesterone levels shift, emotional resilience may weaken, allowing unresolved pain to come to the surface. This is why menopause can be a time of deep reflection. Have you ever found yourself suddenly
emotional over something that happened years ago? A past comment, a relationship, an event you thought you had forgotten. You’re not alone. Your body is giving you the chance to process, to heal, and to release what no longer serves you. But here’s the good news: This awakening can be your greatest power. Taking Back Your Power If you’ve been feeling trapped, exhausted, or like something inside of you is fighting to be heard, you are not alone. Many women experience a sense of awakening during menopause—not just physically, but emotionally. It’s as if the body and mind finally refuse to tolerate what was once silently endured. But how do you move forward? How do you make sense of what you’re feeling and take steps to truly heal? Ask yourself: • • •
Am I carrying emotions or beliefs that no longer serve me? Have I been tolerating situations that diminish my worth? What do I need to forgive—whether it’s others or myself?
•
How can I turn this moment of transition into a moment of empowerment?
Menopause isn’t something to fear—it’s something to harness. Instead of feeling like a time of loss, it can become the catalyst for breaking free from old pain and stepping into the life you were meant to live. Steps Toward Healing & Empowerment
✓ Acknowledge & Accept – Accept that this is a transformative time. Your body, mind, and emotions are shifting, but instead of resisting, lean into it. What is menopause trying to teach you? ✓ Process & Release – Whether through
journaling, therapy, meditation, or movement, find a way to process past pain. Holding onto emotional baggage weighs you down. It’s time to let it go.

THE POWER OF COLLABORATION: BUILDING A COMMUNITY, NOT JUST A BRAND
W
by Geeta Dayal
hen I first envisioned By Charley Madison, I knew I wanted to create more than just a medical spa. I wanted to build a space where people felt seen, heard and empowered. A place where both clients and practitioners could grow, not only in beauty and wellness but in confidence, community and connection. The vision was never about a name or a brand—it was about people. And through collaboration, we’ve built something truly meaningful: a supportive collective that uplifts everyone who walks through our doors.
Collaboration has always been at the heart of my journey. After working in the beauty and wellness industry for over 25 years and overcoming lifechanging challenges including a near-fatal car accident in 2021, I came to understand the incredible strength we draw from working together. That experience taught me that success doesn’t happen in isolation. Healing, growth and innovation all come from community. At By Charley Madison, our collaborative model is deeply intentional. Every practitioner who joins our collective is encouraged to bring their unique skills, voice and perspective. Whether they specialize in medical aesthetics, massage therapy, cosmetic tattooing, naturopathic medicine, makeup or skincare, each person is valued as an integral part 66 | ISSUE 2 2025 | pursuit:365
of the whole. We operate as a team, not competitors and that energy radiates in everything we do. Clients can feel that difference. They often comment on how warm and welcoming the space feels, how there's no judgment or pressure, just genuine care. Our clients aren't just clients; they're members of our extended community. From first-time visitors to long-standing supporters, we treat every individual with the dignity, respect and kindness they deserve. And in return, we are gaining trust, loyalty and lasting relationships. But collaboration isn’t just about working well together, it’s also about growing together. We encourage mentorship within our team, providing newer practitioners the chance to learn from those
with more experience. I’ve always been passionate about mentoring women in business and being able to create an environment where knowledge is shared freely is one of the most fulfilling parts of what I do. We also host regular training sessions, share best practices and openly discuss challenges and successes. That transparency builds trust and encourages continuous improvement.
At By Charley Madison, collaboration isn’t just a value—it’s our foundation. And through it, we’ve built more than a business. We’ve built a community.
We’ve also extended that collaborative spirit beyond our walls. WHAT’S THE BIG DEAL ABOUT PERSONAL BRANDING? by Amy Williams
I
f you’ve spent any time online, you’ve likely come across business owners raving about personal branding and personal branding photography. It’s everywhere, and for good reason. But what exactly is it, and why does it matter so much? If you’ve ever wondered about this on your entrepreneurial journey, you’re in the right place. So, What Exactly Is Personal Branding? At its core, personal branding is how you present yourself to the world—and more importantly, how you want to be perceived by the people you want to attract to your business. It’s about crafting an image that resonates with your audience and makes you memorable. Think about it: why do celebrities like Oprah, Beyoncé, or Jennifer Aniston have publicists? One of the key roles of a publicist is to manage their personal brand, ensuring they’re seen in the best possible light. These celebrities invest in their image because they know how much it matters. Now, let’s bring this back to you and your business. Building a strong personal brand helps you stand out in a crowded market, connect with your audience on a deeper level, and humanize your business. People don’t just buy products or services—they buy from people they know, like, and trust.

Here’s What a Strong Personal Brand Can Do for You: • • • •
Build the “Know, Like, and Trust” Factor: When people feel connected to you, they’re more likely to choose you over a competitor. Help You Stand Out: A unique personal brand sets you apart in your industry. Give People a Reason to Follow You: It’s not just about what you sell—it’s about who you are. Create Flexibility: A strong personal brand allows you to pivot or expand your business with ease.
Why Personal Branding Matters More Than Ever Traditional marketing just doesn’t cut it anymore. Consumers today want to connect with real people, not faceless corporations. 83% of millennials prefer brands that align with their values—and that number is only growing. This shift is why the influencer market has exploded. Influencers thrive because they’re authentic and
relatable. They’re not just selling a product; they’re sharing their lives, values, and personalities. In my own business, I share my passion for photography, my love for travel, and my new handmade jewellery business. These aren’t random topics— they’re intentional ways to connect with my audience on multiple levels. By sharing these aspects of my life, I create a brand that’s relatable, recognizable, and memorable. The Power of Personal Branding Photography Now, let’s talk about personal branding photography—a topic that’s near and dear to my heart. I truly believe this career found me because it combines my love for creating beautiful images with my passion for helping entrepreneurs shine. So, why is personal branding photography so important? Simply put, visuals are powerful. When you give your audience a glimpse of the person behind the brand, you create a magnetic connection. People buy from people, not logos or websites. The more you showcase your authentic self, the more captivated your audience will be.
Plus, social media algorithms love photos of people. When you share images of yourself on platforms like Instagram, Facebook, or LinkedIn, you’re likely to see higher engagement and reach. This translates to a stronger online presence and, ultimately, more business opportunities. Ready to Elevate Your Brand? Now that you understand the power of personal branding and photography, it’s time to take the next step. You deserve to have stunning, authentic images that showcase the real you and connect with your audience on a deeper level. If you’re ready to level up your brand, let’s chat! I work with creatives, salons, health & wellness businesses, and even other photographers to create images that tell their unique stories. Together, we can create a visual brand that’s as unforgettable as you are. You’re worth it—let’s make it happen!
A personal branding photographer isn’t just any photographer. We specialize in capturing the essence of who you are and how you want to be perceived. Whether it’s your professionalism, your quirky side, or your bold personality, we know how to bring it out in front of the camera. We’ll also help you choose the right props, locations, and outfits to reflect your unique style. And let’s not forget—photoshoots are fun! They’re a chance to step into the spotlight and celebrate everything that makes you, you. What About the Investment? You might be wondering about the cost of personal branding photography. While rates vary depending on the photographer and the experience they offer, the return on investment is undeniable. Premium photography elevates your brand and helps you stand out in a competitive market.
Amy Williams has 30 years of photography experience. She has been a photographer with Princess Cruises, for the BC Lions, the Abbotsford Heat, the Royal City Youth Ballet and Vancouver Fashion Week. But her true passion is to photograph families and schools. She loves to capture moments that will be passed on through family history, live on the walls of your homes, be sent as gifts to parents and grandparents, and now shared on social media.

SMELL THIS! AROMATHERAPY GUIDES YOU THROUGH THE PHILOSOPHY, BENEFITS AND USES OF AROMATHERAPY
E
by Arline Trividic
ssential oils are steam distilled, extracted or expressed from plants such as flowers (roses), herbs (lavender) and trees (sandalwood) and are also expressed from rinds of all the citrus fruits. Unlike a base/vegetable oil or nut oil an essential oil is not actually an “oil” because it does not contain fatty acids and is not prone to rancidity. For extractions purposes, low pressure and low temperature methods ensure top-quality aroma and therapeutic value.
An essential oil is the life-force or the “soul” of the plant. When essential oils are used in Aromatherapy, they release healing components that when applied or inhaled will aid and benefit you. Each precious, aromatic, highly volatile, concentrated drop of an essential oil contains plant hormones and organic chemical compounds that regenerate and oxygenate the skin. They are important to include in therapeutic skin and hair care treatments because their small molecular structure allows them to easily penetrate the dermis to nourish, rejuvenate and regenerate skin cells. Unlike most ingredients in a moisturizing cream, which stay primarily on the skin’s surface, essential oils are absorbed all the way down to the subcutaneous tissue layer.
