WELCOME IF YOU SEE IT, YOU CAN DREAM IT

elcome to the 6th Annual Emmitt Smith Celebrity Invitational Golf Tournament weekend. We have chosen Dream 2015 as this year’s theme because it embodies the spirit of our charity’s mission. As we dream for the next generation of youth, it is our sincere desire to bring fresh, extraordinary opportunities that enable kids to see outside of their neighborhoods, their schools and their circle of friends. It’s dreaming like this that will catapult kids to reach their full potential and lead our communities, businesses and our country in the future. And we are committed to doing our part in making this happen. An evening like this always starts with dreams and tonight is no exception! We dreamed of the second Roger Staubach Award nominee being an individual or couple that were respected leaders in their fields and in philanthropy. Our dreams came true when Marjorie & Steve Harvey agreed to accept the award tonight. Their love and commitment to the youth of tomorrow and their personal work with these kids through their camps sets an example for all of us to do more mentoring. We dreamed of the perfect Master of Ceremonies and our dreams came true. Tom Bergeron is a host that everyone loves and he is sure to bring us an entertaining evening with his wit and charm. We dreamed of fun entertainers that would help us celebrate the successes of the evening. When our friend, Eddie Levert, came to mind, we had to have the O’Jays!!! We are so honored that they have agreed to share this evening with all of us. And, as tradition, Emerald City Band will provide the music to allow us to end the evening on a high note! We dreamed of sponsors and guests like you who are here with us tonight. You are the catalyst that provides the resources to help others achieve their dreams. SoftLayer, PrimeLending, American Airlines, Albertsons and CrestCars.com — we never in our wildest dreams imagined that your generosity would continue to grow, as our dreams got bigger. Our sincere thank you to being the first in the door to take our lead sponsorships and allow us to continue to expand the charity’s impact. We will never stop dreaming. Our dreams for kids are that they will have the same opportunities that we have had so that their dreams can come true. We thank you all for being here tonight and contributing to helping kids see their full potential and motivating them to be all that they can be. With Love,

T

eam 22 members are comprised of high potential students in grades 6-10 from Dallas area schools who are under served with limited resources. 20 students currently participate in Team 22 and have been chosen through an application, reference and interview process. The goal of the program is to allow kids to see their future and their potential in a unique way by offering them extraordinary experiences that will allow them to soar and reach goals never dreamed about. In addition, Pat & Emmitt Smith have an opportunity to personally mentor and coach the students by sharing their own experiences of humble beginnings bolstered by community members and professionals who opened doors for their own futures. Annual programs include attendance at Camp Champions, philanthropic service, unique experiences and meetings with business leaders, politicians, artists and athletes, mentoring and a Summer Enrichment Program.

CAMP CHAMPIONS Camp Champions is a three-week summer camp that focuses on leadership, self-worth, conflict resolution and the significance of good decision making. Located on beautiful Lake LBJ in Marble Falls, TX, Camp Champions focuses on the four R’s — Responsibility, Reasonable risks, Reaching out to others, and Respect. The staff at Camp Champions believes every child has an “Inner Champion.” Flourishing in an atmosphere where kids can be themselves, free from electronics, and enjoying over 40 outdoor sports, arts and outdoor activities, Team 22 teens walk into a place free to be themselves, challenge their limits, make new friends, bond with each other, and champion their own spirit.

“Camp Champions challenges kids to be their best selves and we’re thrilled to have a front row seat to the success of Team 22. We’re honored to help shape these future leaders who will be impossible to ignore!" – Susie and Steve Baskin, Camp Champions Directors and Owners

PHILANTHROPIC SERVICE The gifts the Team 22 members receive are valued and the team works together in the community to give back. Every Team 22 member participates in annual volunteering at the S. M. Wright Foundation's Christmas in the Park. Over 40,000 parents and children are greeted by Team 22 at registration and then receive gifts of toys, bikes, food and clothing the Saturday before Christmas. This year, the team enrolled in the Congressional Award Program for Youth, which includes a large philanthropic component. Participants earn Bronze, Silver and Gold Congressional Award Certificates and Bronze, Silver and Gold Congressional Award Medals. Each level involves setting goals in four program areas; Volunteer Public Service, Personal Development, Physical Fitness, and Expedition/Exploration. 2015 EMMITT SMITH CELEBRITY INVITATIONAL |

Additional service hours are earned by Team 22 throughout the year as they volunteer and give back to Pat & Emmitt Smith Charities at the Back to School Uniform Give Away and each of the charity's fundraisers. Emmitt believes “To whom much is given, much is required” and instills this philosophy in each of the Team 22 members.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL UNIFORM PROGRAM PAT & EMMITT SMITH CHARITIES TEAMS UP WITH NATIONAL RETAILERS TO HELP IMPACT ONE STUDENT AT A TIME

F

or the past two years, Pat & Emmitt Smith Charities has provided over 1,000 Elementary School students in at-risk neighborhoods with brand-new school uniforms. Pat & Emmitt Smith Charities has partnered with national retailers, such as JCPenney and Belk, and is committed to making the Back-to-School Uniform Program a permanent part of our priority funding opportunities. Last year, Belk created a “pop-up” store inside Onesimo Hernandez Elementary School’s gymnasium, where students were able to “shop” for a brand-new uniform, complete with a belt and pair of socks! Pat & Emmitt Smith Charities looks forward to serving more students this year with this signature program, helping kids put their best foot forward and preparing them for learning!

BIG SUCCESS: Pat & Emmitt Smith Charities will make the back-to-school uniform program a priority in future funding opportunities.

TEAMING UP WITH UNDER ARMOUR TWO UNDER SERVED DALLAS ISD HIGH SCHOOLS WERE PROVIDED OVER $100,000 IN UNDER ARMOUR SPORTING GOODS

P

at & Emmitt Smith Charities donated $100,000 of athletic equipment and apparel from Under Armour to two of the most storied campuses in the Dallas Independent School District, David W. Carter High School and Skyline High School. Because both Pat & Emmitt Smith grew up in humble circumstances, one of their central priorities in charitable work is to give as many children the means to achieve their dreams in the future. The organization was able to deliver the merchandise to both high schools through a partnership with Two Men and a Truck. Both high schools held pep rallies to mark the donations. In many suburban high schools, apparel and equipment are customary line items in athletic budgets. In districts such as Dallas, where every dollar has to make an impact toward improvements in the classroom, donations such as this give student-athletes the opportunity to compete on a more even footing and take the field, the court and the track with more confidence. This donation by Under Armour and Pat & Emmitt Smith Charities levels the playing field and enables student-athletes at both schools to continue the traditions that these high schools have built over decades.

“We are truly honored to receive this generous donation from Pat & Emmitt Smith Charities. Due to your commitment to student achievement, our student-athletes will be afforded the use of the donated items which will inspire them to carry on the great tradition here at Carter High School.” – Harold Jones, Carter Campus Athletic Coordinator

TONIGHT'S HONOREES Marjorie & Steve Harvey

M

arjorie & Steve Harvey are not only a power couple, they are a giving couple. This year’s Roger Staubach Award recipients show leadership, giving and service in every element of their lives. They don’t believe philanthropy is writing a check and letting others do the work. They believe their responsibilities go far beyond. “The decision to create the Steve & Marjorie Harvey Foundation was an easy one for us. We wanted to do something that allowed us to take necessary action to cultivate our youth in healthy, supportive, and inspiring ways. In our eyes, it's unacceptable to see a need, have the ability to fill it, and then turn a blind eye. Our children in our communities need us badly. They desire better education, eye-opening cultural experiences, and mentors, who can influence them and expose them to endless possibilities.

foster excellence in the areas of health, education and social well-being within urban and ethnically diverse communities. “The Steve Harvey Mentoring Weekend for Young Men” is a four-day, three-night interactive program designed to share and teach the principles of manhood to young men between the ages of 13-18, who live in a single, femalehead of household. This program helps these young men realize their potential and helps them to envision and prepare for a future where they are strong, responsible and productive men. The goal of The Steve Harvey Mentoring Weekend is to break the misguided traits of manhood and introduce role models who provide positive examples of manhood. “Girls Who Rule the World Mentoring Weekend” is a three-day two-night program designed by Marjorie Harvey and The Steve & Marjorie Harvey Foundation. The goal is to enhance the development of young girls and provide a forum to expose "The decision to create the Steve & Marjorie Harvey them to the benefits and the importance of positive self Foundation was an easy one for us. TONIGHT'S ENTERTAINMENT The O’Jays

T

he O'Jays are touring history, a connection to an era and a sound that formed the soundtrack for the lives of several generations. The O’Jays are still hitting the road with the same electrifying energy they’ve had for over 50 years. Walter Williams and Eddie Levert first met when they were the ages of 6 and 7 respectively. As teenagers in Canton, Ohio, they formed a band originally consisting of Eddie Levert, Walter Williams, William Powell, Bobby Massey and Bill Isles. In 1963, the band took the name "The O'Jays" in tribute to Cleveland radio disc jockey Eddie O'Jay. Several members have changed, but the core, original lead singers Eddie Levert and Walter Williams, continue to front the group. In 1972, Gamble & Huff, a team of producers and songwriters with whom the O'Jays had been working

28

| 2015 EMMITT SMITH CELEBRITY INVITATIONAL

for several years, signed the group to their Philadelphia International label. With this magic formula, often called The Sound of Philadelphia, The O’Jays scored the first number 1 and million-seller, “Backstabbers.” Subsequently, they succeeded with various chart-topping pop and R&B singles including “Love Train,” “Put Your Hands Together,” “For The Love of Money,” “I Love Music,” “Darlin’ Darlin’ Baby (Sweet, Tender, Love),” “Livin’ For The Weekend” and “Use Ta Be My Girl.” This success propelled The O’Jays to be the first black vocal group to perform in arenas throughout America during the 70s and 80s. Eddie and Walter have a rare lifelong bond that few of us will ever experience; friends and partners for almost 65 years. “We still appreciate our friendship, dedication to each other and the group and our love for good music." Walter continues, "We probably

could have had great solo careers, but I don't think either one of us could have ever have been as big as The O'Jays." Walter Williams could be considered a hero as he has battled Multiple Sclerosis or “MS” for 30 years and continues to execute his dance moves with perfection when performing on-stage with the group. Walter is also a volunteer National Ambassador for the MS Society and a spokesperson for MS Active Source. Eddie Levert is known for his raspy voice and has a range that takes him from alto to second tenor. Levert teamed up with his son Gerald for a duet on “Baby Hold On To Me,” which hit number one on the R&B charts. Eddie has also mentored his very successful sons Gerald and Sean who became major forces in the music industry.

The O'Jays were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2005. They were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2005 and honored with BET's Life Time Achievement Award in 2009. In 2013, they were inducted into The Official R&B Music Hall of Fame. Today, the songs of The O’Jays are still being used in many movies, commercials and TV shows. “For The Love of Money” continues to be the theme song for “The Apprentice.” Eddie Levert Sr., Walter Williams Sr. and Eric Nolan Grant, who joined the group in 1995, continue to thrill fans today. Throughout their career The O'Jays have achieved 10 Gold albums, 9 Platinum albums and 10 #1 hits. It's been a long journey but thanks to the fans the LOVE TRAIN is still going strong!

Emerald City Band

A

s a corporate and special events band, Emerald City burst onto the Dallas music scene in 1983 and never looked back. Motion, movement and energy are three words that best describe this 13-piece, three-horn section super group that electrifies every audience with a combination of high-energy dance songs from the past with the hits of today. Emerald City has performed for President and Mrs. George Bush at the White House twice. The band has also performed at events for numerous corporations, including Ford Motor Company, Southwest Airlines,

Microsoft, the North Texas Super Bowl XLV Host Committee, Apple and American Airlines. Averaging more than 300 performances a year, The Dallas Morning News, D Magazine, Knot Magazine, and AACWP voted Emerald City as “Entertainers of the Year” and they’ve been nominated for the prestigious National Spotlight Award in Las Vegas. Emerald City has shared the stage with such artists as Martina McBride, Michael McDonald, Huey Lewis and the News, Justin Timberlake, Garth Brooks, Mariah Carey, Dan Aykroyd, Sinbad, and the list goes on and on.
