PM: So Brandi, you're married, and you are now part of this big, beautiful, blended family. Can you tell us a little bit about your life and transition into single mom life?
Brandi: That's right, I married my college sweetheart and we started our family early on. We both played sports at the University of Georgia, I played basketball, and he played football (Go Dawgs!) then ultimately, we got married and started a young family. It was an unfortunate and tragic event that led to me being a widow and single mother My late husband was tragically shot and killed which immediately put me in a position where I had to then raise three young boys who at the time were ages 4, 3, and 1 So I was introduced to being a widow and a single mother at the same time. At that point, I knew it was just all on me and I had to do whatever it took to make certain that my sons did not feel like they were lacking the parents. Even though I had to assume both roles I knew that I couldn’t be a father to my children. But I wanted to make sure that even though there was an absence we’d still have the life we desired
PM: I’m sure at that point in your life you couldn’t even imagine all that you ’ ve accomplished. What was your motivation for you to pursue life after losing your husband?
Brandi: Absolutely not. I knew that God would take care of us I didn't doubt or lack faith at any point even during those moments of uncertainty or moments of “how’s this going to happen?” But I trusted God, with full faith and confidence that God would see us through. My biggest motivation, of course, was my boys. As an athlete, I was an overachiever so I've always had drive but those boys were my reason They were the thing I needed to make things happen I wanted them, my family, and even my late husband to be proud of what I did to put my sons on a productive path to success.
Another source of motivation for me was seeing an Essence magazine article titled ‘Single Mom on the Move.’ This article featured a prominent real estate agent standing in front of a high-end subdivision in Georgia I picked up the magazine to read the article and learned that she was also a single mother who built an extremely successful real estate business. The fact that she looked like me, she was doing what I wanted to do, and was also a single mom helped me to realize that could be possible for me. So I went to work and started building my real estate business brick by brick.

PM: You hit the nail on the head for a lot of us single moms when you said that you couldn’t be a father to your sons. But like many of us, we understand that it’s going to take support in order for us to pursue our purpose. What did that look like for you?
Brandi: Interestingly enough, I left my support system when we relocated from Chicago back to Georgia. You know, I went to school here at the University of Georgia so moving back to Georgia was inevitable. You know, I had some fear about raising my children on the south side of Chicago and often wondered if they were safe I knew that wasn’t the environment that I wanted to raise them in.
