I am pleased to report on another positive year at St. Augustine High School. The pages that follow contain
joyful examples of how our beloved institution in Calendar Year 2023 represented the St. Augustine community and how faculty, alums, partners, and friends of the school demonstrated their commitment to our school’s growth. This report also reveals an organization that is strategically evolving to expand its reach and provide necessary exposure for our young men. I believe a deep sense of commitment lies at the center of each of the many achievements highlighted in this report. Commitment to creating the very best learning environments and experiences for students is our ultimate aim. The Development Team truly answered the call to take action and provide impact in 2023. We achieved our best fundraising performance in our school’s history, thanks to the team’s efforts with consistent long-standing supporters and recent new contributors. I’m extraordinarily proud of the team’s efforts. I’m often reminded that the sustainability and growth of our institution is carried by our dedicated alumni, foundation and corporate partners and friends of the school. This mix of community support not only signals hope for our future, it creates an unyielding sense of pride and joy that our patron Saint - St. Augustine of Hippo would be proud to see represented today! With all the good that took place in 2023, I’d be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge the untimely passing of a dear friend to the school Mr. Richard Voke. Richard, as he demanded we call him versus Mr. Voke, discovered the astonishing work being done between Law & Hope Street in the summer of 2022. From that time on, he made his presence known by supporting over a dozen programs and initiatives at the school with his generous support. He departed this Earth on December 31, 2023, but his contributions and impact to St. Augustine will be remembered and live on forever. Thank you, Richard! As I close out my thoughts on this year’s irrefutable success, I submit to you that we must always put the young men of St. Augustine first. We must remain united by a greater understanding of purpose and act with a determination to ensure St. Augustine High School has limitless boundaries. After all, in order for the city of New Orleans to do well, St. Augustine must do well.

D E V I N A . BOUC R E E ’05 Xavier University of Louisiana, Institute for Black Catholic Studies, Youth Ministry, Pastoral Music Theology Teacher: 8th & 9th Grade Assistant Campus Minister Director of Knights of Praise To work at St. Augustine High School is to work in the vineyard of our Lord. Educating the next generation of leaders is a humbling privilege and honor. As an alum of St. Augustine High School – class of 2005, I know firsthand the impact teachers in the classroom can have. Now being a member of the faculty, I strive every day to impact our young men in the ways of Faith! As scripture says in the Book of Proverbs 22:6, “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Under the Lordship of Jesus Christ, our mission is to train them in the ways of Christ so they know where they can find peace, joy, and most importantly, unconditional LOVE. It is my prayer every day that I can reach and teach a generation of young men to be proud of not only who they are as young men but to know without a doubt whose they are as Children of God! Gratia est Vita! Grace is Life!

I take great pride in having an impact on the students I teach and lead daily. In the classroom, it brings me joy to see their minds expand as they learn about the business of music. In the band room, it brings me even greater joy when they connect the dots through musicianship.

At St. Augustine, greatness is the standard. One of my main reasons for being at St. Aug is to be part of the ultimate plan of developing young black men in New Orleans. Being an alumnus, I have had the pleasure of seeing St. Augustine from both perspectives in the classroom. There’s no other place like it!

English Teacher: 9th Grade English I enjoy teaching at St. Augustine High School because I get to work with highly motivated students of diverse socio-economic backgrounds who are learning what kind of leader they want to become. Some students have clear goals they are pursuing, and some are still learning what possibilities might be out there. St. Augustine provides role models and support for many different paths.

St. Augustine is a special institution and will forever be for the community of young leaders we serve. St. Augustine is also a pillar of our community, and I am proud to be a part of such a rich history, knowing I am giving back to the city I love as well as these young men.

L ADIES FOR PURPLE SCHOL ARS
ALUMNI ADVISORY BOARD
Ladies for Purple Scholars are a group of women who have created an organization dedicated to assisting students in financial need at St. Augustine High School. We are a nonprofit, with a 501(c)3 designation from the IRS, incorporated in Louisiana. 100% of all proceeds from fundraisers go directly to assist or St. Aug family.
The St. Augustine High School Alumni Advisory Board (AAB) consists of volunteer alumni that directly support the school’s administration and operations. This support can be accomplished via fundraising, volunteering, or advisory. The AAB has a long history (over 25 years) of dedicated service to our historic institution. The AAB pledges to continue that support into the future.

CORNERSTONE CLUB The Cornerstone Club of St. Augustine High School is a nonprofit organization that has acquired 501(c)3 status from the IRS. For better than thirty years, the club’s mission has been to provide financial support to deserving young men who wish to acquire St. Augustine‘s quality education, so the school’s excellence and traditions are continued —Reginald Delecia ’80
QUARTERBACK CLUB OF ST. AUGUSTINE The Quarterback Club of St. Augustine supports the young men of the St. Augustine football team in order to encourage their hard work. We support their tireless efforts and selflessness to make our football team the best it can be, dedicating countless hours in the weight room, film study, and practicing under the brutal heat and humidity of the New Orleans sun. They learn toughness and sacrifice. Our young men learn to work together, developing problem-solving skills needed to become successful. They learn to be more productive and efficient. Also, they learn to become leaders of men through coaching and learning all the qualities of a Purple Knight man. We believe in the program and will always be there to support, win, lose, or draw. —Stephen Pepin ‘81

CAMPUS MINISTRY 2023 VOYAGE Setting their sights on eight stops across the United States, our Campus Ministry, led by Fr. Tony Ricard, provided students with up-close and personal history lessons. On this voyage, students spent time at the Birmingham Civil Rights Museum in Birmingham, Alabama; visited the cabin where Eliza Harris hid while escaping slavery in Pennville, Indiana; assembled a prayer circle around the grave of Harriet Tubman in Auburn, New York; visited the monuments of several iconic leaders, such as Dr. Martin Luther King and Abraham Lincoln, in Washington, D.C., and more!

YOUR SUPPORT IS CRITICAL It ensures that our school remains competitive and is able to offer a solid educational and social experience to current and prospective students. St. Augustine High School seeks to prepare students for college life after high school and beyond. We teach students how to think critically and creatively, how to write clearly and speak persuasively, and how to be prepared to meet the challenges of a diverse, sometimes harsh world as a young African American man. Gifts to the Annual Fund ensure that essential day-to-day operations needs are met. Gifts to restricted endowments ensure our future success and guarantee the realization of visionary programs and initiatives. Gifts for special projects finance athletic, academic, and extracurricular experiences that are critical to the overall development of Purple Knights. With your contribution, you are allowing us to continue to make a positive impact on the lives of our students, on the future of our city and nation, and on the legacy of St. Augustine High School. Thank you for your generosity and invaluable support.
