FOUNDATIONS OF EDUCATION

Nine seniors and two juniors participated in the Foundations of Education program in the 2022-2023 school year. This program is a direct response to the shortage of black male educators in America. Purple Knights gained field experience by learning classroom management skills from elementary teachers at two local K-7th Catholic schools: Good Shepherd School and St. Benedict the Moor School. To prepare their work with their assigned elementary students, the St. Augustine students learned best practices for teaching reading fluency, phonics, comprehension, vocabulary, and phonological awareness.
