ST. AUGUSTINE HIGH SCHOOL

In calendar year 2022, we, St. Augustine High School, experienced an unprecedented level of support from contributors around the world; true believers in the work we do to uplift and provide impact on the lives of young people daily. We are truly grateful and honored that you were in that number. So, thank you!
The provided 2022 Recognition of Donors report shares the names of organizations and individuals of the 1,920 contributors to our school’s progress. It brings me great pride and joy to know that 45% of the total revenue was contributed by graduates of our school including our alumni chapters and the fabulous and always committed Ladies for Purple Scholars Foundation. This shows that we are committed to our home and because of it, many others, including friends, family members, foundations and corporations believe in our school’s mission, too.
Of the pages and graphics, you will witness in this wonderful keepsake, my most admired section and pages are of our teacher quotes and their headshots. They are the guardians of our scholars’ minds and educational growth. They play a pivotal role in our collective purpose as an institution that prepares our young men for life.
St. Augustine High School continues to have a tremendous heartbeat because of you. I’m excited for our future because you believe. You give me hope that we will surely prevail over all odds. Quite frankly, you see the good in our work and as we continue to educate and grow young men in the city of New Orleans, it is my hope you continue to support us to elevate that mantra of “good to great”.
Thank you again and it is my sincerest hope to review your name in our 2023 Recognition of Donors report a year from now.
With gratitude and purpose,
Aulston G. Taylor President and CEOTABLE OF CONTENTS

I love the work I do at St. Augustine, because each and every day is a rewarding experience. I am honored to have the opportunity of playing a vital role in the lives of young, black men and witnessing their growth from boyhood to manhood.
Xavier University of Louisiana, B.A. Visual Arts

I love the work I do at St. Augustine High School, because it gives me an uplifting feeling to pass on my knowledge of the Visual Arts to our young black future leaders. I also love the uplifting spirits they have once they’ve created their masterpieces; it builds their confidence in what they can bring to the world.
Hampton University, B.A. English
Tennessee State University, M. Ed. School of Teaching and Learning
I am exceedingly grateful that not only do I work in my chosen field of education, but I have the opportunity to help shape the lives of young Black men. St. Augustine provides me the opportunity to work in an environment of highly dedicated educators who share my values and are committed to improving the lives of others. I am grateful to serve among them and find joy in working with a cadre of excelling young men. I learn from them and they encourage me to be a better teacher and better person each day.

I enjoy watching my students’ eyes light up when they learn new facts rooted in history. My purpose and vision at St. Augustine High School is to be a light and blessing for all.
Southern Illinois University, B.S. Human Resources
Archdiocesan Certification in Mathematics - Xavier University of Louisiana, Southern University of New Orleans and University of New Orleans
We are second to none! I love teaching and nurturing young African American males. Forty-nine years ago, a teacher, coach and administrator was there for me and it gives me great pleasure to do the exact same. I constantly share with my students to keep God first, your family second and being my brother’s keeper third. This is the St. Augustine way and if you live by it, through your dedication to these principles and hard work, you can accomplish anything.
Xavier University of Louisiana, B.S. Chemistry
Science Dept. Chair
I enjoy exposing the students of St. Augustine to the world of science. Seeing their expressions and engagement as we conduct experiments as a group, provides greater curiosity that then increases their levels of intelligence which ultimately leads to new growth.
As a school, we are blessed to have wonderful support groups that span across America. These organizations keep the school’s brand alive and present in their respective geographical areas. While all serve as fundraising arms of the school, they each go above and beyond the call of duty to engage with alums, friends and most importantly, students, in meaningful ways. Their representation matters to our success.
The Midwest alumni chapter of St. Augustine High School was established to bring together Purple Knights who are indebted to St. Augustine High School for instilling in us brotherhood and black excellence. Our intent is to share our story with the people of the Midwest, and encourage them to support the great institution of learning. We, as a chapter, are here and committed to support and uplift St. Augustine High School in the education of young black man who can and will make a difference in the world.
—Lionel Griffin ’88St. Augustine High School Houston Alumni Chapter is committed to the development of the school’s mission in the Greater Houston Area. This is accomplished by developing and maintaining partnerships with other organizations, as well as sponsoring events to promote the chapter and school’s goals and objectives.
—Reginald
Goings ’83The New Orleans “Home Chapter” is uniquely suited to not only offer scholarships to aspiring young Purple Knights, but also to continue to enhance their experience at 2600 via capital improvements and our volunteer efforts for the school. Rise Sons!
—Matthew Williams ’88The Atlanta Alumni Chapter is a brotherhood of St. Augustine graduates residing in the Atlanta metropolitan area. As an organization, we come together for the purpose of fellowship and in support of our beloved alma mater. With a passion to raise funds for scholarships, arts, athletics, and other extra curriculum needs of the institution, with the support of the school staff, we seek to empower students to succeed in all aspects of life; and as proud leaders in our community, we are charged with the underlying achievement of giving back as St. Augustine Purple Knight alumni.
—Marlon S. Francois ‘84The mission of the St. Augustine High School DFW alumni chapter is to help St. Aug alums living in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area to feel more connected to the school by engaging in activities that contribute funds and support to help the school fulfill its mission.
—Lawrence Epps ’74At its core, the Washington, DC Alumni Chapter is a fraternal organization that exist to financially support the St. Augustine High School, while fostering and strengthening the bonds of camaraderie and brotherhood among St. Aug graduates. The chapter strives to strengthen the viability, longevity and visibility of St. Augustine, and to embrace its core values.
—Bill Brousseau ’73Ladies for Purple Scholars are a group of women who have created an organization dedicated to assisting students in financial need at St. Augustine High School. We are a nonprofit, with a 501(c)3 designation from the IRS, incorporated in Louisiana. 100% of all proceeds from fundraisers go directly to assist or St. Aug family.
The St. Augustine High School Alumni Advisory Board (AAB) consists of volunteer alumni that directly support the school’s administration and operations. This support can be accomplished via fundraising, volunteering, or advisory. The AAB has a long history (over 25 years) of dedicated service to our historic institution. The AAB pledges to continue that support into the future.
—Mark Boucree ’85The Cornerstone Club of St. Augustine High School is a nonprofit organization that has acquired 501(c)3 status from the IRS. For better than thirty years, the club’s mission has been to provide financial support to deserving young men who wish to acquire St. Augustine‘s quality education, so the school’s excellence and traditions are continued.
—Reginald Delecia ’80The school’s main building underwent a multi-million-dollar renovation in 2022. Significant improvements were made with the overhauling of an HVAC system, new windows, new lighting system, new roof, and technology upgrades in twenty-four classrooms. In addition, three science labs received total makeovers.
CLASSROOM BEFORE
HALLWAY BEFORE
Nine seniors and two juniors participated in the Foundations of Education program in the 2022-2023 school year. This program is a direct response to the shortage of black male educators in America. Purple Knights gained field experience by learning classroom management skills from elementary teachers at two local K-7th Catholic schools: Good Shepherd School and St. Benedict the Moor School. To prepare their work with their assigned elementary students, the St. Augustine students learned best practices for teaching reading fluency, phonics, comprehension, vocabulary, and phonological awareness.

“I don’t think you ever stop giving. I really don’t. I think it’s an on-going process. And it’s not just about being able to write a check. It’s being able to touch somebody’s life.”
—Oprah WinfreyEach year, St. Augustine High School receives generous support towards annual scholarships from donors and supporters. Students who meet the set criteria provided by donors, apply every year sharing their academic progress and showcasing their writing skills by responding to questions within the application process. These named scholarships provide families with tuition support as well as connect students to generous donors. This is one way we strengthen our bond and presence in the community to create lifelong friendships.

It ensures that our school remains competitive and is able to offer a solid educational and social experience to current and prospective students. St. Augustine High School seeks to prepare students for college life after high school and beyond. We teach students how to think critically and creatively, how to write clearly and speak persuasively, and how to be prepared to meet the challenges of a diverse, sometimes harsh world as a young African American man.
Gifts to the Annual Fund ensure that essential day-to-day operations needs are met. Gifts to restricted endowments ensure our future success and guarantee the realization of visionary programs and initiatives. Gifts for special projects finance athletic, academic, and extracurricular experiences that are critical to the overall development of Purple Knights. With your contribution, you are allowing us to continue to make a positive impact on the lives of our students, on the future of our city and nation, and on the legacy of St. Augustine High School.
Thank you for your generosity and invaluable support.
