On Friday, November 25th, our theater, our community, lost a beautiful soul.

Phoenixa Sol was a kind, generous, and benevolent supporter of the arts, and our theater. She will be missed.

It is with love, and light, and the passion to match her love of the arts, that our theater, cast, and crew dedicate the run of ANNIE to this beloved soul.

I have many memories ofAnnie growing up. First, was the 1982 movie (I was born in 85, so my memories of watching it on video cassette are sparce, but who could ever forget Carol Burnett’s performance as the dastardly Miss Hannigan, andAileen Quinn’s spunky but loveableAnnie, and the way she belted out “Tomorrow”.

Annie is one of the most adapted pieces of musical theater, first starting out as a Broadway musical in 1977, and then the aforementioned film version, it was revived again on Broadway in 1997, and 2012, and once again for film, this time on the small screen, as part of The Magical World of Disney in 1999.Amodern retelling was released, again on film, in 2012, and then a live version for NBC last year.Annie is easily one of the most produced shows around the world.

Annie is set in the Great Depression, at a time whenAmerica was experiencing an extreme uncertainty, and in some cases, misery. We may not be going through a depression, but we have all been through trying times recently, where we know those emotions all to well. The reason why this little red-head is so beloved, as well as her fellow orphans, is that they did their best not to give into those emotions, to overcome those circumstances. They chose to believe that there was a brand new day waiting for them tomorrow. This is the gift this musical gives, and what I want you to hold on to tonight, and always. Enjoy the show!
