Welcome!
Please join us for the Purdue Veterinary Medicine (PVM) 2013 Fall Conference. The annual conference is designed to provide Continuing Education (CE) for the entire veterinary team. General Continuing Education Sessions and the Exhibit Hall will be held in the Purdue Stewart Center. Additional Special Events and Workshops will be held at different sites on the Purdue West Lafayette Campus. Please check each program event for specific locations. For the most current schedule, newly added events, photos and descriptions of speaker sessions, please check the conference website regularly at www.vet.purdue.edu/fallconference.
CE Opportunities and Proof of Attendance
One (1) Continuing Education (CE) credit is offered for each 50 minute session of lecture. Attendees can earn up to 26 credits of Continuing Education at the PVM 2013 Fall Conference. It is your responsiblilty to document which sessions you attend and the number of hours you receive.
APHIS Accreditation Modules - New this Year!
We are offering USDA National Veterinary Accreditation modules during this year’s conference. Each module of supplemental training counts as one unit. Accreditation renewal requires the completion of any three units of APHIS approved supplemental training for Category I veterinarians and any six units for Category II veterinarians. These modules also count as one (1) CE unit for Indiana veterinarians. Practitioners from other states should check with their licensing board to determine if these modules will count for both accreditation and CE. The APHIS modules are highlighted in the program on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Hospitality Rooms - New this Year!
Stewart Center rooms 202 & 206 are reserved throughout the conference as hospitality rooms for all attendees. Take a moment during the day to catch up on your email or avoid the campus lunch rush by signing up for a box lunch. Then relax with your friends in the café environment of the hospitality rooms.
Registration
Register online at www.vet.purdue.edu/fallconference or mail/fax the attached registration form. Early registration fees are available until August 26. After August 26, late registration fees apply. Registration will be located on the first floor of Stewart Center in the East Foyer and will be open 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 11 and Thursday, September 12. On Friday, September 13, registration will be in both Stewart Center and Lynn Hall from 7:00 a.m. to noon. Stop by registration to pick up your conference materials and name badge.

Exhibit Hall
Exhibitors are a vital part of the PVM annual conference and our exhibitor companies want to talk to you. The Exhibit Hall in Stewart Center 214 & 218, complete with morning and afternoon refreshments will be open from 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 11 and Thursday, September 12. Visit the booths early to grab your Starbucks coffee and continental breakfast before CE sessions begin. Plan to visit all the Exhibitors frequently throughout the conference.
Proceedings
Proceedings will be available at no cost to conference registrants via the PVM Fall Conference website on September 1. A flash drive containing conference proceedings may also be purchased for $25.00.
Fall Conference Parking
When driving to Purdue’s West Lafayette Campus, please allow plenty of travel time for parking, busy campus streets and road construction. We encourage all conference attendees to take advantage of the free shuttle service provided Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to conference locations. Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013 Join us for a fun and exciting round of golf prior to the start of the Purdue Veterinary Medicine Fall Conference! The golf outing will be held at the Purdue Ackerman Hills Course and is coordinated by the Indiana Animal Health Foundation and Purdue Veterinary Medicine. Indiana Veterinary Technicians Association (IVTA) Luncheon Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013 In addition to the annual business meeting, this year’s IVTA luncheon will offer a 1 CE lecture by Theresa Shuck, RVT from Indiana State Board of Animal Health, who will speak on “Disaster Preparedness: How Can I Help as an RVT?” The luncheon will begin at 11:45 a.m. in the PMU West Faculty Lounge.

Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013 Dean Willie Reed hosts an appreciation luncheon each fall for members of the PVM Dean’s Club. Dr. Curtis Eng, DVM ’88, will be our guest presenter. Dr. Eng is the Chief Veterinarian and Manager of the California Condor Program for the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens. This year’s luncheon will be held in the Purdue Memorial Union (PMU) North Ballroom at 11:45 a.m. Note: Alumni and friends who make a gift of $500 or more during the calendar year are recognized with membership in the PVM Dean’s Club. Dr. Jack & Naomi Stockton Lecture The 2013 Stockton Lecture speaker will be Dr. Alex Dunlap, Chief Veterinarian at National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Dr. Dunlap is responsible for all NASA policies related to animal health and welfare. The Stockton Lecture will begin at 4:20 p.m. in Loeb Playhouse.

Class of 1963 50th Reunion Dinner
Friday, Sept. 13, 2013 This is a special reunion year for the Class of 1963, the first class to meet their 50th anniversary milestone. In honor of this monumentous occasion, the College is planning a celebration dinner at 5:30 p.m. on Friday evening, September 13 in the new Spurgeon Club at Mackey Arena. Commemorating this class reunion will provide opportunities for you to catch up with friends and reminisce about your time at Purdue. Plus, a few surprises are in the works for the celebration dinner. This event is open to anyone who would like to celebrate with the class of 1963.

Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013 The student-run Dog Jog is a 5K run/walk, sponsored by McAfee Animal Hospital, that attracts faculty, staff, students, alumni and their dogs. The race will begin at 8:00 a.m. from Lynn Hall and route through campus on Saturday, September 14, 2013, the conclusion of the Fall Conference week. All proceeds 3 will go to the PetSafe Program, a community service offered by Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine to meet the short-term housing needs of pets whose owners are temporarily unable to provide care. The College is the official sponsor of this year’s Purdue vs. Notre Dame football game. Plan to attend the pre-game tailgate, sponsored by Elanco and Patterson Veterinary, at 5:00 p.m. in Tent City as we “Boiler Up” to take on the Fighting Irish. A limited number of game tickets in the PVM Block will be available when you register online for other Fall Conference events. Kickoff is 8:00 p.m.

Our Clinical Pathology Workshop theme for this year is the cytology of solid tissues in the dog and cat. Located in our newly renovated, state of the art pathology teaching laboratory, we will utilize lectures, video microscopy, and individual microscopes in a case based approach to demonstrate important cytologic findings of lymphoid tissues (especially nodes), the hepatobiliary system and skin. Discussions will describe a general approach to cytologic evaluation that is illustrated with examples of inflammatory diseases, infectious agents, hyperplastic conditions, neoplastic diseases, and degenerative lesions. The lab will have a high faculty to participant ratio. This program is designed for DVMs.

The Purdue Veterinary Alumni Association serves veterinary alumni in many ways in an effort to maintain the connection between Purdue Veterinary Medicine and its graduates. Events such as alumni receptions at annual national veterinary conferences and special activities at the Purdue Fall Conference enable alumni to keep in touch with classmates and stay current on news of their Alma Mater. Dues for membership in PVAA are $30 per year. You can pay your annual dues when you register for the conference.

Sunrise CE - 7:30 a.m. Free Book Wednesday, September 11 and Thursday, September 12 Dr. San Miguel and Dr. Cipriani Davis will provide an overview of why veterinary workforce development is essential for our profession to remain relevant to society. Opportunities for elementary, middle, high school and college students will be discussed. Resources available for veterinarians to use on classroom visits, to increase their intercultural competencies, and for developing our future workforce will be highlighted. Attendees will receive a free children’s book about veterinary medicine.

The IN Animal Health Foundation and the Purdue Veterinary Medicine Fall Conference are very pleased to partner for the annual golf outing! Golf will be played at the Ackerman Hills Course on the Purdue University Campus in West Lafayette. The outing will feature fun games, great golf, prizes, a BBQ lunch, and appetizers in the Pavilion after the round at the course. Golf begins at 12:30 p.m. with a shotgun start. The outing’s format is a modified Florida scramble, enabling golfers of all skill levels to compete.
Open Division - Any combination of four players Class Division - Four players from the same class (i.e. Purdue Class of ‘78) Hole Sponsorships: All funds raised will be used for scholarships and the support of student activities (i.e. Boiler Vet Camp, etc.) To raise additional funds, we’re offering hole sponsorships. For $250, your class, clinic, or company is recognized with a promotional sign at the tee. You will also be listed in the Hoosier Veterinarian newsletter as a sponsor of the event.
