Out of 186 students, 70 percent or 131 students were not in favor of the tax reform law while 30 percent or 55 students support the new law on the survey conducted by the Engineering SPECTRUM last January 25-31. The new tax reform law also known as Republic Act 10963 which imposes lower income tax and higher taxes on automobiles, fuel, tobacco, and especially for sugarsweetened beverages was signed by President Rodrigo Duterte last December 19, 2017. Higher excise tax Higher excise tax rates were set for automobiles, oil products, tobacco, and sweetened beverages and products. Tax rates for fuel are set to increase by PhP10 in 2020. Also, the current sin tax for tobacco will increase from PhP30 to PhP32 for 2018 followed by an annual increase of four percent. “Ang pinakamaaapektuhan nito ay ang mga mahihirap na namamasahe since tataas ang pamasahe dulot ng pagtaas ng petrolyo,” stated by Dan (ECE III). Lower income tax rates With a higher excise tax, there is a lower income tax rates regulation under the said law. Salaried workers with an annual take-home pay of CEans react to.../p.2
