Overall, Yosef Marapao and GJ Famero’s achievements in their respective contests serve as an inspiration towards the students of LHS— their achievements serve as proof of their hard work and resilience.

As they look forward into their LHS career, they become models for the future LHSians, encouraging them to embrace hardships and strive for academic excellence in their pursuits. .

I n the school year 2024-2025,

the PUP Laboratory High School embraces the warm welcomes of freshmen, new agendas, and a new student board.

In reference to the student body, a much anticipated event occurred in the PUPLHS’ Multipurpose Hall on September 6, 2024—the Meeting de Avance of the parties, Tunay and Tinig.

On August 29, 2024, the official parties were introduced, namely, the Tunay Party list under the candidacy of Zianne Revilo Ortiz (President), Elisha Frances Solis (Vice President), Soliel Buenafrancisca (Secretary), Nikki Riona Pamilar (Treasurer), and Keandrei John Abano (Auditor), and the Tinig Party list administered by Ma. Antonette Tayawa (President), Aubrey Dineros (Vice President), Lil Chinah Celerian (Secretary), Mary Lee Gabrielle Teodoro (Treasurer), Gavin Abonal (Auditor). As they instantly became the center of discussion, students gathered as they debated which candidate to vote for and who was worthy of their position. With the exceptional interpersonal skills these candidates have to offer, is it enough to lead the school?

Being part of the Student Council Organization—the mother organization of LHS—is an opportunity that harvests the personal qualities, represents the student body, and initiates projects for the betterment of the school. In accordance with this, an implementation of a new set of officers is done each academic year to undertake a smooth year for both students and faculty. Thus, the procedures of filing the certificate of candidacy, campaign, meeting de avance, voting, and announcement of elected officers must be done to encourage transparency and accountability.

On September 6, 2024, at exactly 2:30 p.m., the program flowed formally as chatter among the crowd ceased. The procedures lined up accordingly, starting with the national anthem and doxology, followed by the statement of the COMELEC guidelines, which was presented by the co-chairperson of the COMELEC board, Jhan Aldriane Sumulong, and the official opening of the Miting de Avance, remarked by Joven Guillermo. The nonpartisan moderators— Franchella Jaira Bangayan and Renee Ruth Distajo—hosted the event with ease and openness.

With built-up thrill, the introduction of both party lists has ensued.

In the next agenda, the president and vice president of each party list must convey their purpose and proposed platforms with a given amount of time for introduction.

The Tunay party list focused on their goals and objectives if they’ve won the elections; meanwhile, the Tinig party list utilized their time in presenting themselves—more personally—for the students’ familiarity.

Cheers reigned throughout the hallway as the remaining candidates introduced themselves compellingly. While both parties used different tactics in persuading the audiences, their true intention will be judged in the opening of the question and answer portion.

Following the series of events, the most anticipated sector of the program began. Intimidation meets passion. The juries, Instr. Mary Joy Villalino, Instr. Jelly Marigondon, Instr. Jasmine Nobleza and Instr.

Jemimah Marie Tan sought out answers for their chosen queries. In Ms. Jasmine’s question, “What is the role of SCO in understanding the current issues…?”, the presidents of both parties were expected to respond accordingly.

In preparation for the assembly, the Pen and Podium Pioneers (PNP) organization and the COMELEC Board joined efforts in succeeding the said event for the final rally of the candidates. Facilitated by PNP “Nangunguna dapat ang SCO sa

Ensuring everyone’s voice is heard out and the truth transmits back, the two parties rallied up their answers while maintaining credibility and formality in speaking.

With questions and answers being passed back and forth, the curiosity settles as the timer hits the exceeding time limit for the open forum. A sense of relief has now entered the overwhelming atmosphere.

The tension stemming from the open forum decreases as the presidents of each slate have again been called on stage for their final statements. Restated claims, words of gratitude, and promises were all they have said after the intense phenomena. As the evening drew closer, one final statement from the adviser herself —the SCO’s adviser, Ms. Valerie Ann Magsalin—was all needed to conclude the pivotal occasion of the school year 2024-2025.

As the program wrapped up, the finalization of the crowds’ decision determined how the course of our year would go. Highlighting all important details, have these candidates proved themselves worthy of their positions? One final push, and next up is the elections.

Does the future look promising?

Our path ahead remains a mystery, but this is the challenge the student body must face in order to attain yet another successful year for the PUP Laboratory High School. While the 70th anniversary of our school is just around the corner, is the new set of officers capable of leading us through?

Sa ikalawang bahagi naman ng oryentasyon nangyari ang pagpapakilala ng iba’t-ibang mga organisasyon. Nagpamalas ang bawat isa ng kanilang kagalingan sa iba’t-ibang larangang pangakademiko at di-pang-akademiko. May mga nagpakita ng kanilang galing sa pagsayaw, pagawit, pagtugtog ng mga instrumento, pag-arte, at pagbabalita.

Pinaliwanag din ng bawat isa ang mga ginagawa sa loob ng kanilang organisasyong kinabibilangan.

Nagbigay ito ng ideya para sa mga mag-aaral kung saan nila mahahasa at maipamamalas ang kanilang mga kasanayan at talento bukod sa mga silidaralang kanilang pinapasukan. Higit na mas naging interaktikbo ang mga mag-aaral sa parte ng oryenasyong ito. Hindi nagpatalo ang mga ito at sinabayan nila kung anumang mga pakulo ang ginawa ng bawat isang organisasyon.

Nagsilbi rin ito bilang lugar upang mas magkaroon ng pagkakakilanlan at kaalaman sa bawat isa. Ito rin ang kauna-unahang pagtitipon na nagsama-sama .

BRIGHTNESS UNLEASHED: Recognize the Stars of PUPLHS

oing back to July 16, 2024, the PUP Laboratory Highschool recognized the hardworking and competent stars that represented the effectiveness of education in the school on the school year 2023 to 2024. The students, or stars rather, showcased not only their achievements, but also the warm smiles that show their hard work coming to an end and a start of a new chapter. The recognition day, titled “Filipino Youth: Building a Stronger Future for a New Philippines”, was a very special day at Bulwagang Balagtas, PUP NALLRC, that marked an achievement brought to PUPLHS; the burning passion and unwavering love of the students for Sintang Paaralan.

The guest speaker, Atty. Jane Kate S. Calipay from PUPLHS batch 2006, inspired students, especially the new LHSians through sharing her experiences and challenges that she overcame. “Nasa LHS palang ako, I already put in effort in studying. Marami ring mga magagandang law firms ang nasalihan ko before.”

Fueled dedication and passion were reflected in her message. The pressure was never easy to deal with, but having a commitment towards a dream makes a huge difference. “Yung journey ko ay medyo matagal, pero at the same time very rewarding din.” A role model, indeed.

Up until now, she still works for her goals and improvement of her career.

On that day, students in line came with different feelings and emotions rising. These stars, just like constellations, are aligned with different stories to tell. The paths and futures that these students are going to conquer will remain as a mystery. Yet one thing is for sure; discipline, academic excellence, nationalism, and commerce will lead them to success.

After the singing of the national anthem and invocation led by Pangkat Tinig, the chorale of PUPLHS, the speakers formally started the program. The faculty club president, Mr. Zacky C. Taplac, led the opening remarks. Together with Ms. Mary Joy A. Villalino as the mistress of the ceremony. Looking back at the journey everyone has conquered last school year; it has been though and challenging. Especially for the freshmen that are still trying to adapt in a different learning place. Moreover, it was a relief for everyone to finish another year, bringing the knowledge and wisdom that they acquired.

Merit awardees were recognized and received their certificates on the stage. These are students that acquired grades of 85 and above in all subjects, including the MAPEH components. Their hard work was reflected not only on the certificates, but also through the light in their eyes as they went on the stage, together with their proud parents, guardians, and teachers. These stars were introduced by Mr. Joel Soliveres (Grade 7), Ms. Alena Palaming (Grade 8), Mr. Christian Villegas (Grade 9), and Ms. Aishan Israel (Grade 10). The honor students were recognized for their competence and inspiration.

Ms. Jemimah Tan introduced these bright stars, highlighting the remarkable qualities of LHSians.

Leaders are important to effectively have cooperation in every organization. These model students of LHS proved that LHSians are achievers with a heart. Being responsible and cooperative is an important factor of being a good student. These stars are models that inspired others to face your obligations and have unity with everyone. These models were introduced by Mr. Zacky Taplac (Grade 7), Ms. Lady Valerie Ann Magsalin (Grade 8), Mr. Lucero Trangia Jr. (Grade 9), and Ms. Aishan Israel (Grade 10).

These leaders serve as officers and role models for their grade level, demonstrating our capacity to inspire others to be brave and step up. “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way” —John C. Maxwell. PUP LabHigh boasts numerous organizations that empower students to develop skills in various fields.

Leaders play a vital role in guiding others and embodying the ideals we aspire to. This quote resonates deeply with the dedicated student leaders who strive for prosperity, peace, and unity.

The recognition day would not be successful without the help of the committee to manage the program. The efforts and support of the people guiding the students are essential to their educational life. Thus, as a token of gratitude for the people who strengthened us, LHSians continue to shine brighter and bring success to our Sintang Paaralan.

On the other hand, students expressed different feelings during that day. “I can recall feeling so happy with my classmates and being so proud of them”. LHSians care for one another. Not everyone was able to step up in the school year 2024-2025; we face different conflicts like pressure. Yet students were able to go through all that and end up in this new chapter. “Being an awardee or not, you are allowed to feel whatever you want to feel.

he PUPLHS Science Club, ATOMOS, participated in the National Youth Science, Innovation, and Techno-logy Festival (NYSTIF) 2024, held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) Forum Tent in Pasay on Wednesday, September 18.

What is NYSTIF? NYSTIF was an event organized by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) about Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) with the theme STEM VIBE: Engaging the Youth in Providing Solutions and Opening Opportunities. This event’s objective was to promote involvement in science and technology through multiple activities, exhibits, and learning opportunities in a vibrant, innovative, brilliant, and engaging (VIBE) process.

The event started with an opening ceremony to greet the students and other participants, after that they had a Kwentuhan with SciComm Idols: Timothy James Dimacali, the Vice-President of SciComm Philippines, Ruby Shaira Panela, a Media Relations Specialist, Mark Joseph Tinao, Director of Lasallian Institute for the 9sitEnvironment, and Mikael Angelo S. Francisco, CoFounder and Editor-in-Chief of FlipScience.ph. They talked about career opportunities, the current state of science communication in the country, and the ongoing challenge posed by Artificial Intelligence. The PUP LHS Compaña de Danza held auditions to recruit new members at the PUP LHS MultiPurpose Hall on September 13, 2024, in preparation for the upcoming Streetdance Competition of University Intramurals 2024.

Mylene Alfon, Jhe Beroña, Eirene Bueno, Elaiza Buclatan, Liana Charvet, Chantelle Cortes, Hermione Dajoyag, Aniya De Dios, Lyka Genita, Joven Guillermo, Andrea Gutierrez, Arwa Ismael, Ken Marquez, Jill Parada, Rihanna Ramilo, and Micah Sampan are all set to showcase their energy and aim to secure the championship title. This year marks the first time since the pandemic that LHS has a representative in this category. Nevertheless, the Compaña de Danza is committed to delivering a spectacular performance and creating a lasting legacy for Laboratory High School.

On September 18, 2024, the PUP LHS Volleyball Varsity Tryouts took place, providing aspiring students the opportunity to showcase their remarkable skills in serving, receiving, spiking, and setting. Led by Mr. Andre Fajardo and Ms.

Jasmine Nobleza, the tryouts aimed to strengthen LHS's volleyball program by who can contribute to a competitive team.

After a thorough evaluation of every participant, the PUP LHS Men’s Volleyball Team has been finalized, including Lance Bataller, Jan Rei Biaro, Mico De Lumen, Darwin Dionisio, Joven Guillermo, Bernard Lachica, Rayver Mangabat, Carl Melegrito, Brienne Regudo, and Ian Santos.

On the other hand, the PUP LHS Women’s Volleyball Team welcomed Keren Alcid, Kezia Alcid, Malaiya Cariño, Hennessy Castro, Zyrene Enriquez, Shekynah Lasam, Kyla Matusalem, Megan Nerencina, Alliyah Padilla, Samantha Sabellano, Jazzleen Santos, Ma. Angelica Santos, Seanna Seminiano, Neonella Suasi, and Rheanna Zepeda. Both teams are now ready to conquer the court and claim the championship title, fueled by their determination and teamwork.

Sofia Caliboso and Gj Jeremias Famero are set to represent Laboratory High School in the upcoming Mr. & Ms. University Intrams 2024 pageant. Both students have been diligently preparing for this prestigious event, showcasing their unique talents and charisma.

Laboratory High School has been preparing for this event since last year’s University Intramurals.

Bumida at ibinandera nina Sofia Ysabelle Caliboso ng Grade 9-Office Technology at Gj Jeremias Famero ng Grade 8-Loyalty ang Polytechnic University of the Philippines Laboratory High School sa prestihiyosong Mr. & Ms. UI 2024 noong Oktubre 22, 2024 sa PUP Gymnasium.

Nagpakitang gilas ang dalawa sa kanilang pagrampa sa entablado, suot ang moderno at minimalistikong sportswear, na nagpapaktia ng kultura at ganda ng pampalakasang badminton.

Sa pagsimula ng programa, ipinasilip ng bawat kalahok ang kanilang engrande at eleganteng kasuotan habang umiindak sa melodiya ng kantang ‘AMAFILIPINA’.

Kahit simula pa lamang ay ibinuhos na nina Caliboso at Famero ang kanilang nag-uumapaw na karisma at pinapatunayang kaya nilang makipagsabayan sa mga kolehiyong katunggali.

Unang sumalang ang dalawa sa rampahan, dala ang ngalan ng LHS at ang damdamin ng bawat estudyanteng nanonood, sabik na ipakita ang kanilang suporta.

Sa bawat hakbang na tinatahak at galaw ng reketang hawak-hawak, tanaw ang kanilang naglalagabgab na kumpiyansa at namumukodtanging ngiting tiyak na nagpapaingay sa madla. Lalo pang lumakas ang hiyawan ng buong PUP Gymnasium nang kanilang isinigaw ang, “Sofia Ysabelle Caliboso, Gj Jeremias Famero, Laboratory High School!”, nang buong sigla at pagmamalaki Pinarangalan bilang Best in Sports Attire sina Billy Cabayan at Maurine San Pedro ng PUP Santa Maria Bulacan Campus, suot ang kaakit-akit na kasuotan na nagbigay-pansin sa kanilang pambihirang presentasyon.

Tinanghal naman sina Reniel Manansala at Maria Lozano mula sa PUP College of Education bilang 2nd Runner Up, habang 1st Runner Up sina Billy Cabayan at Maurine San Pedro ng PUP Santa Maria Bulacan Campus.

Kinoronahan bilang Mr. & Ms. University Intramurals 2024 sina Oliver Dolotalias at Angel Mae Ramos ng PUP College of Tourism and Hospitality Management, na nagdala ng ngiti at kasiyahan sa kanilang mga tagahanga.

“Tuloy-tuloy ang ensayo ng mga atleta natin through tuneup matches, drills, and body conditioning. At hindi porke wala pang mga sasalihang liga o tournament, eh ibig sabihin matitigil muna ang ensayo.”He added, “We started it [preparation for the University Intramurals] since last year's UI para mas mapaghandaan talaga since hindi naman natin ka-age bracket yung mga kakalabanin natin.”

While LHS faces the challenge of competing against college students, this presents a unique opportunity for growth and development. The experience of their opponents motivates LHSian athletes to elevate their skills and strategies, pushing them to train harder and think critically about their game. “Pwedeng hindi pa natin maachieve yung gusto nating resulta sa ngayon, pero naniniwala akong mas makakasabay na tayo sa mga college players at athletes sa mga susunod na taon through intense and consistent training,” said Mr. Fajardo.

The stars are aligned for an electrifying year for PUP Laboratory High School this PUP University Intramurals 2024. With rigorous training sessions already in full swing, our talented teams—Men’s Basketball, Men’s & Women’s Badminton, Men’s & Women’s Volleyball, and Street Dance—are not just striving for victory but are determined to leave an unforgettable mark on this year’s event. Each participant is ready to unleash their skills and showcase their tenacity. LabHigh will definitely go to the highest!

Sa kabila ng halos dalawang buwang paghahanda, ibinigay nila ang kanilang pinakamakakaya upang mabigyan ng maganda at maayos na representasyon ang paaralan. Ipinakita nila na ang tunay na kahulugan ng kompetisyon ay hindi lamang tungkol sa pagkapanalo, kundi pati na rin sa pagkakaroon ng magandang karanasan at pagkatuto.

“Masaya ako dahil nagkaroon po ako ng opportunity na mairepresenta ang aking paaralan. Naging maganda rin po ang paligsahan dahil kahit kami ay natalo, may nakuha po kaming mga bagong kasanayan at experience na maaari po naming magamit sa hinaharap,” wika ni Famero.

Sa kabila ng hamon at kompetisyon, ang paglahok nina Sofia Ysabelle Caliboso at Gj Jeremias Famero sa Mr. & Ms. UI 2024 ay nagbigay-diin sa kanilang determinasyon at galing bilang mga estudyante ng Laboratory High School.

Ngayong taon ang unang pagkakataong mayroong representante ang Laboratory High School sa ganitong paligsahan mula noong pandemya.

Ang kanilang karanasan ay hindi lamang nagsilbing pagkakataon upang ipakita ang kanilang talento, kundi pati na rin bilang isang hakbang tungo sa personal na pag-unlad at pagtitiwala sa sarili.

Sa mga darating na taon, tiyak na magkakaroon ng mas maraming oportunidad ang mga estudyante na ipakita ang kanilang talento at galing, na magpapaangat sa kanilang mga kakayahan at magiging inspirasyon sa iba pang mga kalahok.

Ang patuloy na pagsuporta ng paaralan sa mga ganitong aktibidad ay makakatulong hindi lamang sa pagbuo ng kumpiyansa ng bawat mag-aaral kundi pati na rin sa pagkakaroon ng mas malawak na oportunidad sa iba’t ibang uri ng paligsahan.
