The feeling is mutual”, ika nga.

…as you fulfill the thrusts of your respective apostolic groups, bear in mind that you have a crucial role to do. Each of you has something to contribute in order to proclaim the mercy and love of God. As you carry out each plan that you have designed for this formation year, never forget those people who are abandoned and neglected by the society for in them we can directly see the face of God.

ALLOW ME to give a short account of what happened to me before I turned to God. I studied at Colegio San Juan de Letran in Intramuros, Manila, from elementary up to high school. But before I finished High School, I joined a barkada of not so good influence. Since during those days, Manila was chaotic, our group would always be involved in a rubble. The world I live then was messy and so my life. My life took a turn when I was invited by my wife and her friends to attend a seminar, known as Life in the Spirit Seminar (LSS). It was a series of talks given by different people. When the baptism of the Holy Spirit came, I cried a lot and started to ask God for forgiveness. I joined their group known as Mary’s Joy and its spiritual adviser was Fr. Quirico T Pedregosa, Jr., OP. Up to present, I am still with this group. It was Fr. Ramon T. Salibay, OP who encouraged me to serve in Sto. Domingo Parish. I joined and serve as extraordinary minister of the Holy Communion during the 7 am and 8 am Masses. One morning, Father Ching asked me, “Why do you serve as lay minister and why serve at two Masses?” My answer was simple: “Before I was bad and everything I did was perhaps displeasing to the Lord. Now, in my own little ways, I want God to smile.” it became a yearly tradition for Cubao Media to help DSMC in bringing the celebration online.

Brothers, it is my hope that as you engage in your apostolic endeavors, may you find Jesus in every person you will meet along the way. God bless you all!

This is an excerpt from the homily delivered by Fr. De Dios during the Eucharistic Celebration for the opening of the Pastoral Formation Year 2022-2023 held on September 11, 2022 at Sto. Domingo Church, Quezon City.

As for me, my first experience in covering the La Naval event was when I was still in Radio Veritas in 2017. I was dazed by the strong faith of the Filipinos from different walks of life who yearly join the grand procession. I teamed up with one of the brothers during my first coverage as a ra- dio anchor, and I was astonished by the richness of history and faith that I first learned during that time. Since then, Our Lady of the Holy Rosary — La Naval de Manila, has been very close to my heart.

The coverage with the different members of the Dominican Students’ Media Center each year provides the Cubao Media with different experiences. It taught us to be flexible whenever we encounter student-brothers of different nationalities. We enjoy coaching them about the different camera shots and angles during the event, and we are glad that they learn quickly and are enjoying the coverage at the same time.

“Passion X Mission,” I can say that we are very blessed to have this job and beyond blessed to be able to join the La Naval coverage team because it is also difficult to find a job that is also your passion.

Even though Cubao Media was not able to join the coverage of La Naval festivities for a year due to the pandemic, we are always grateful for the help and guidance of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who has never abandoned us. MS. LEAHNA C. VILLAJOS
