Eighteen Dominican student-brothers underwent work immersion in the various departments of UST Angelicum College, Quezon City from April 11 to May 11, 2023 as part of the Pastoral Enrichment Program FY 2022-2023.

The said program was designed by the Dominican Studentate Pastoral Board led by Rev. Fr. Lauro G. de Dios, OP, Director of Pastoral Formation, and was aimed at supplementing the pastoral exposures of the student-brothers during the previous long academic break and to provide avenues for the student-brothers to have concrete pastoral experiences in the specific frontiers of Dominican life and mission (cf. RFG 144).

Sharing the Fruits of Contemplation: Catechesis to the Children of Tatalon

Riding in crampled tricycles in the rigorous heat did not weigh down the enthusiasm of the brothers assigned in the pastoral enrichment program on local mission going to Barangay Tatalon. Those assigned student-brothers were tasked to give catechism to the community, particularly for adults, every Saturday of the months of April and May in a makeshift space for worship in the streets of Tatalon. The student-brothers tackled the basic prayers, the Creed, and the Church, while emphasizing the importance of prayer and going to Mass.

A culmination activity was held on May 13, 2023 wherein Fr. Lauro G. de Dios, OP, Dominican Studentate Pastoral Board Director and Parochial Vicar of Santo Domingo Parish made important the notion that everything is interconnected. He urged the faithful to be mindful of one’s actions as these may greatly affect other things in their life.

The activity was also attended by the Basic Ecclesial Community (BEC) led by Ms. Rosario C. Florendo, BEC Coordinator, Sto. Domingo Parish Youth Ministry and members of other church organizations, who all tirelessly helped towards the fulfillment of this preaching apostolate. BR.

Apostolic groups produce updated manuals

The Dominican Studentate Pastoral Board (DSPB) serves as the umbrella for the planning and implementation of the pastoral ministries of the Dominican student-brothers. It comprises five apostolic groups, with the oldest being Dominican Students’ Media Center (DSMC) which was established on August 7, 1990 and the youngest si Kristo Ang Patutunguhan sa Tulong ng Ina ng Diyos (KAPATID).

During FY 2021-2022, the Retreat and Recollection (R&R) Committee was transferred under DSPB. These organizational structures have thus existed for decades and have been guided by their own respective manuals of operations and procedures.

For this pastoral formation year, the DSPB aimed to update all the manuals of the apostolic groups to align them with their vision, mission, goals, and objectives. The first term was devoted to the review of each manual and research on the history of every apostolic group. During the second term, the apostolic groups have standardized the organizational structure and also updated the manuals based on current practices.

The updated manuals of the five apostolic groups and the R&R Committee, were ratified and promulgated last June 11, 2023 by Fr. Lauro G. de Dios, OP, Director of Pastoral Formation. They were launched on June 14, 2023 during the Opening Rites of the Pastoral Conferences and Exposures Program 2023. BR. JULIAN
