Smiles Through Seva Brings Hundreds Together for 4th Annual ‘Unmasking Futures’ Gala 'smfeIlË QrU syvf' ny cOQy sflfnf 'anmfsikMg iPAUcrË' gflf leI sYNkVy lokF nUM iekwTf kIqf. What started four years ago as a group of young people wanting to give back has grown into a movement bringing hundreds of people together in the name of seva and community. On Saturday, September 19, the Abbotsford Ag-Rec Centre was transformed for “Unmasking Futures,” the fourth annual Smiles Through Seva Foundation Gala, welcoming over 400 guests, local businesses, volunteers and community leaders for a sold-out masquerade-themed evening dedicated to supporting children and youth in Abbotsford. Behind the masks, entertainment and celebration was a distinctly local mission.
“Four years ago, we started with a simple belief that small acts of service can grow into something much bigger,” said Arsh Kaler, President and Founder of Smiles Through Seva Foundation. “To look around the room Saturday night and see hundreds of people, businesses and young volunteers come together because they believe in giving back to Abbotsford was incredibly special.”
This year’s gala supported the Starfish Pack Program, which provides weekend food support for local children experiencing food insecurity, as well as the Abbotsford Hospice Scholarship Program, which helps create educational opportunities for graduating students T h e e v e n i n g brought together Continued on Page- 20 in the community.

ABBOTSFORD, BC – Dedicated community advocate and father of four, Amritpal Mand, has officially announced his candidacy for School Trustee in the upcoming October 2026 election. Qualities of a Prospective Councillor If I were to identify the qualities that mark effective elected officials, I would choose the following broad categories: character, competence, temperament, and service. Character When we begin to consider whom to support or vote for, the first question that usually comes to mind is, “Who is this person?” Apart from identifying where someone comes from or exploring their background, we want to know whether this person is trustworthy. Are they honest and transparent in their relationships with others? Can we expect them to take responsibility, even when they have failed in some manner? Do they respect others, regardless of personal differences? Character also requires courage and independence of judgement. An elected official must be willing to make difficult and sometimes unpopular decisions when the evidence and the long-term interests of the community point in that direction. Public opinion matters, but responsible representation requires more than simply determining which position is most popular. The question I learned to ask myself: What is in the best interest of the community as a whole?

alter course when circumstances require it. And there is one further competency that should concern every taxpayer: Will this candidate exercise fiscal responsibility in the interests of all residents and future generations, rather than responding primarily to the immediate demands of a vocal minority? The financial consequences of Council decisions can extend far beyond a single term of office. Temperament
The third category—temperament—may be underestimated or overlooked. Municipal government is almost entirely a collaborative enterprise. One of its unique strengths is the presence of nine independent voices and opinions around the Council table, working together to govern the city. A councillor who possesses excellent ideas but cannot work constructively with colleagues will usually accomplish less than someone with perhaps Newly elected officials will obviously be fewer ideas but stronger interpersonal skills. inexperienced and will make mistakes. Rather unexpectedly you could find yourself in a situation where something from the past needs to be established in a new way to suit present circumstances. This can involve home or family matters but it could also be connected to what you need to manage on a regular basis. Don’t be tempted to act on impulse. Get the facts.
You could suddenly become keen to get things in better order. In part this could be because your energy level is good right now. It could feel as though you are fulfilling a wish you might have had but did not think was realistically possible. When it comes to finances hold off for now on committing yourself to something new.

The New Moon this week occurs in your sign. This could bring some interesting and unexpected new beginnings of some description that could have past connotations attached in some way. Don’t be too worried about trying to work it all out before 20th July and don’t be tempted to jump into anything that means taking a risk. Wait for clarity.
There is a lot going on behind the scenes that could lead to new beginnings. If there are any circumstances around you where you feel there is much more involved than is obvious, you are likely very correct. All you can do is wait for these things to surface when they are ready. In between time, involve yourself in things you enjoy.
You are winding up an 18 month period where there has been an underlying draining influence which could have affected your energy level or situations that you have had to be involved in. You could suddenly decide that certain obligations need to be sorted out in a manner that is fairer to you because you want to establish new priorities.
It might be time to take a new approach to obligations expected of you, especially if you do not feel your efforts are appreciated. Exactly the best way to go about this will not start to become obvious until after 20th July. You might also need to consider ways you have allowed this to happen in the past and change that.
The expectations of somebody else that could be rebellious when it comes to their own needs could get you considering the fairness of it all, especially if it goes against your own priorities. This could encourage you to look at where things need to head in the long term in a completely dif-
An experience you have with somebody else and what they expect could seem as though the past is repeating itself in some way but with a new twist. Don’t expect to have the first stage of clarity as to what this is really all about before 20th July. Carefully weigh up any commitment or responsibility this might bring your way.
Either somebody from the past may reappear with a completely new proposal or attitude towards things or you could be reminded of what you have experienced in the past by a new person. Just what it is all about may not fully surface before 20th July. This could make you realise just how much your view of the future has changed.
Now would be the time to look into embarking on a new health regime, if that has been nagging at you lately. For others it could be considering alterations to normal routines that could make things more comfortable in some way. Somebody else could be encouraging you to upgrade things in some way. That is up to you.
You could decide to go back to something you have enjoyed in the past. It won’t be exactly the same and this might generate some doubts initially. If there is a social component to it, you could meet some interesting people. It could help you to take an alternative view to the manner in which you have normally structured things in life.

Something you thought was settled and agreed to in the past may now need to take a new direction. Be mindful of any pressure this could put upon you financially. You cannot afford to take a risk. The need to find out more information is a strong possibility. Don’t expect instant answers – they could start to come after 20th July.

Shehnaaz explained that she is willing to work professionally with such co-stars but does not want the equation to continue beyond the set. Speaking about Gippy, she described their working relationship as one based on mutual support and encouragement, recalling how they exchanged advice while discussing their careers. Shehnaaz also stressed that strained equations can affect a film. He also addressed claims that the veteran actor’s temperament can end up costing producers money, citing an incident that he believes reflects Patekar's character. According to Ranbir, Patekar once came across the plight of families affected by farmer suicides. The actor reportedly decided against buying a car worth Rs 1.5 crore and instead asked a friend to distribute the
Vedika on 'good problem' of success Actress Vedika Pinto is navigating a busier phase of her career following the response to her portrayal of Sudha in Musafir Cafe. While the attention has brought appreciation for her performance, it has also left the actress with considerably less time on her hands. Speaking about the response to the series and its impact on her schedule, Vedika admitted that she had not anticipated how demanding the increased attention would be. "It has been crazy! I have been loving the kind of response it has been generating, but I never accounted for the lack of time that would come with that," she said. The actress, however, sees the packed schedule as a positive sign. "Now I have realised that if I am to achieve all that I want to, then time is not going to be that readily available. But it is
a good problem to have... I am n o t complaining!" she added. Vedika's portrayal of Sudha has connected with viewers, with her chemistry with Vikrant Massey also drawing attention. The role adds to her varied filmography, which includes projects such as Operation Romeo, Gumraah and Nishaanchi. With Musafir Cafe Season 2 on the horizon and an upcoming project with Lakshya, Vedika is entering this new phase with a packed calendar and more opportunities to explore different roles.
Radhika on women's desire Actress Radhika Apte recently opened up about why women often struggle to make time for their own desires while balancing work, motherhood, and household responsibilities. Speaking about the subject in the context of Lust Stories 3, she emphasized the need for women to have space to pursue their interests and live beyond their roles and responsibilities. When asked whether it was always about men having more time to think about their sexual desires and whether working women also had little time to think about their own desires, Radhika agreed with the observation and said women often had "zero time" because
of their hectic routines. She told this news agency, "I think what you said is so true because women have zero time, it's so hectic, and that's the problem." According to Radhika, such desires could be as simple as wanting to take a walk or explore something new. "Whether that's a sexual desire or desire to go and, you know, go to Borivali National Park for a walk, it doesn't matter," she said. Radhika also spoke about how a woman's identity can often become closely associated with motherhood after having children. "Identity completely switches to motherhood, and that's not true. You are also a person. There's also a small child inside you who wants to try different things and just live life," she added.

Held on September 15, 2026, exactly 100 days before the release of his upcoming film King, the interaction saw the superstar answer a mix of questions about his personality, work and current interests. While fans were eager for updates about King, several questions focused on the actor himself. From his morning coffee ritual to the one thing that still makes him nervous after decades in the spotlight, Shah Rukh responded with his trademark humour. Shah Rukh has spent decades entertaining audiences through films, television appearances, interviews and live performances. Yet, according to the actor, there is still one aspect of performing that can make him nervous. A fan asked him, "Sir, after all these years, what still makes Shah Rukh Khan nervous?" His answer was simple: "Getting the punch line right!" The AskSRK session also offered fans a peek into what the actor is currently reading. When asked about his current read, Shah Rukh revealed that he is reading The Hero of Ages, the third novel in Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn trilogy. The book follows the events of The Well of Ascension and continues the fantasy series centred around Vin and the wider world of Scadrial.

Paul Mahil Files Nomination Papers, Launches Campaign for Mayor of Abbotsford
pOl mfhl ny aYbtsPorz dy myar leI cox muihMm ÈurU kIqI Paul Mahil, an Abbotsford farmer, small business owner and community volunteer, has officially filed his nomination papers to run for Mayor of Abbotsford, confirming his place on the ballot for the October 17, 2026 municipal election. Mahil filed ahead of last Friday's nomination deadline, becoming one of four candidates now seeking the city's top job. Mahil — known to most simply as Paul — has called Abbotsford home since 2001, though his family's roots in the city run far deeper. His grandfather bought the family's first farm in Abbotsford in 1974, and the Mahil family has worked the land for three generations since. Paul carries that legacy as a farmer today. He also runs a small snow-andice removal business — which means that on the mornings most of Abbotsford is still asleep, Paul is already out on the roads, making sure the city keeps moving. A Regular Guy, Not a Career Politician Paul is blunt about why he's running. He has never held political office, doesn't belong to any political machine, and says he isn't interested in learning how to play the political game.
– Opening Abbotsford up for business — building a logistics and manufacturing hub around Abbotsford International Airport, and a new entertainment district and convention centre nearby, so growth creates local jobs instead of just local traffic
