FRASER VALLEY BANDITS LAUNCH #IAMVALLEY MOVEMENT AHEAD OF 2021 CEBL SEASON The Fraser Valley Bandits launched the #IAmValley movement Tuesday with the release of a cinematic hype video that uses a diverse cast of 35 athletes, artists and business leaders filmed across more than 16 locations in the Fraser Valley to celebrate the voices, histories, identities and industries of the region.

The cast includes past, present and current amateur, Olympic and professional athletes, as well as local artists and entrepreneurs who participated in a robust shooting schedule earlier this year.

The goal of the video and overall campaign is to showcase the Fraser Valley as a dynamic region that is defined by the various cultures that occupy its rich landscape and to spotlight the accomplishments and bright futures of the artists, athletes and leaders who are writing an exciting chapter in Fraser Valley and Canadian history. A full list of cast members and scene locations can be found below.

“The #IAmValley movement was built on the premise of celebrating our community and encouraging youth and adults alike to take pride in where they are from. The Fraser Valley is a special place because it is enriched by individuals and families who have lived here for generations or are new to British Columbia and chose this region as their home,” said Bandits vice president Dylan Kular. “Whether it be on the court or in the community, we are an organization that is committed to honouring the heritage and numerous

cultures of the Fraser Valley and we invite everyone to be part of what we are building together as a team.”

To produce the video, the Bandits collaborated with esteemed Abbotsfordbased videography company Colla Films. The voiceover for the video was performed by local hip hop artist Saint Soldier (Amrit Saggu). By blending a combination of off and oncourt Bandits highlights with an array of cinematography, the #IAmValley campaign video serves as an important recognition of the region’s status as a basketball hotbed and an inclusive home for everyone.

The campaign also stands as a rallying cry ahead of the upcoming Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) season, which begins on June 24 with a rematch of last year’s championship that saw the Fraser Valley Bandits fall to the Edmonton Stingers in the final. The launch of the campaign is accompanied by the grand reveal of two new branded elements, an #IAmValley slogan wordmark and an “FV” monogram secondary logo, which will be introduced to fans and a global audience on social media through the Bandits’ respective Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube pages throughout this week.

NEW THEORY MAY REVOLUTIONIZE TREATMENT OF ENDOMETRIOSIS Endometriosis, a disease found in up to 10 per cent of women, has been enigmatic since it was first described. A new theory developed by researchers at Simon Fraser University suggests a previously overlooked hormone — testosterone — has a critical role in its development. The research could have direct impacts on diagnosis and treatment of the disease, signaling hope for women with endometriosis worldwide.

The disease is caused by endometrial tissue growing outside of the uterus, usually in the pelvic area, where it contributes to pain, inflammation, and infertility. But why some women get it, and others do not, has remained unclear.

The new research is based on recent findings that women with endometriosis developed, as fetuses in their mother’s womb, under conditions of relatively low testosterone, compared to women without endometriosis.

According to the researchers’ theory, this low testosterone ‘programs’ the developing reproductive system of women to exhibit the unique suite of traits that is linked with endometriosis, including early menarche, short menstrual cycles, high pain sensitivity, high inflammation, and altered levels of the hormones that control ovulation and the menstrual cycle.

“Low testosterone in early development is the strongest known correlate of endometriosis, and its effects can explain the majority of endometriosis symptoms,” says SFU biological sciences professor Bernard Crespi, a Canada Research Chair and co-author of the work with graduate student Natalie Dinsdale. “What’s more, the new theory has direct implications for endometriosis diagnosis and treatment.”

Elli AvrRam wins best actress at Stockholm City film fest for 'With You' Actress Elli AvrRam has won the Best Actress award for her role in the short film "With You" at the Stockholm City Film Festival. The 23minute short film is based on the socially relevant subject of mental health awareness, sexual abuse and childhood trauma. "I'm just so thrilled and grateful for this recognition. We all went in with our heart for this project, and to see it getting this response at such prestigious film festivals is truly heart-warming. I feel so happy for all of us, grateful to my director Peppe Segura, and especially for the fact that a story like this is being noticed and appreciated," she says. Talking about

the process of shooting the film, she adds: "I flew down from Mumbai to Stockholm to shoot the film because I wanted to be part of such films that raise awareness about important issues. Everyone who worked on the film felt it's important to bring in light, in the darkness, because that's what we all need to be able to find the strength and to change things. It was emotionally tough to step into my character, Lilly, but I believe that's what I also love, to get challenged, because it leads to growth as an actor."

Joining the bandwagon of South imports is Rashmika Mandanna, who while gearing up for her debut Bollywood film Mission Majnu, has already begun shooting for her second project opposite Amitabh Bachchan. “We chanced upon Rashmika’s work,” says director Shantanu Baagchi, who was seeking a female lead in the Sidharth Malhotrastarrer. “I was impressed by her nuanced performance in Dear Comrade [2019]. "I want to do comedy roles in cinema because that one of the genres I did not tap into much. I used to do comedy on television and on stage. We used to do 'The Great Indian Comedy Show' with Suresh Menon, Ranvir Shorey, Vinay (Pathak), Rakesh Paul. I love doing comedy and that is why I want to explore the genre in cinema," Suchitra said.

"In real life, I am quite a clown, though my on-screen image is different and that's because I mostly played those ' strong women' roles," added Suchitra, who is still recalled for her delightful comic cameo in the 2001 hit "Dil Chahta Hai". Malaika Arora says she started cooking because of her son Arhaan Khan. Malaika will be seen on the fourth episode of 'Star Vs Food'. She cooks her all-time favourite comfort food, Malabar fish curry, for her close ones including sister Amrita Arora, and friends Preeta Sukhtankar and Sarvesh Shashi. On entering the kitchen, Chef Prateek Sadhu asks her how she planned to cook in the kitchen in stilettos. Malaika replied: "If I had a choice, I would sleep in stilettos. I have already thought two steps ahead of you, I am a mom, so I am always well prepared. So, I have come with comfy shoes and I am fully prepared." She added: "I really look forward to days like this because it has all my passion in it, which is spending time with my near and dear ones, my dear friends, cooking, learning something that I don't know, meeting new people, raiding a kitchen." Expand pathway to permanent residency for essential workers,says BC group Migrant workers and their advocates today held a press conference calling on the Canadian Government to expand the new pathway to permanent residency for essential workers.

On April 14th, Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino announced a new pathway to permanent residency called the Temporary Resident to Permanent Resident Pathway. It provides 90,000 new spots for permanent residence, with 50,000 of them being for workers: 20,000 for healthcare workers and 30,000 for workers in essential, nonhealthcare jobs. The program officially opened on May 6th.

“The government knows that providing these workers a path to permanent residence is the right way forward, which is why it created this pathway.

But, for a program that is supposed to recognize the important contributions of essential workers, it leaves out far too many,” says Jonathon Braun, from the Migrant Workers Centre (MWC), during the virtual press conference.

“These workers, many of whom have been working in Canada for years, will
