With the support from RBC, the exhibition Drain: in recognition of the 90th anniversary of the draining of Sumas Lake is being exhibited at The Reach until March 30, 2014. It features the work of eleven young, local artists in dialogue with historical photographs and artefacts. Through Drain, we invite visitors to consider the wider implications of a major undertaking like a mass drainage, and to create a dialogue around how such a project affects communities culturally, politically and environmentally. RBC’s support will ensure that The Reach has

the means to continue showcasing the talent of young artists like these, today and into the future. “We launched the Young Contemporaries project in mid- 2013 with a vision to create a more vibrant, more creative and dynamic city for young people. We expect to achieve this through an awards program, full exhibitions and numerous opportunities to showcase the work of young artists, plus develop social events, classes, workshops, speakers, tours, field trips and more,” explains Gabe Kirkley, creator of the project at The Reach. Membership in the Young Contemporaries starts at $25 for individuals with discounts of up to 50% available when you sign up with additional friends. Visit www. to register and for more information.
