Dear Racegoer, On behalf of the Punchestown team I would like to welcome you all to day one of the 2022 Punchestown Winter Festival. These two days of quality racing really kick off the jump season proper with over €400,000 in prizemoney on offer over the weekend.
We would like to welcome all sponsors here today but a special welcome to Lily & Wild, Sebden Steel, Oak Lodge Landscapes and O’Connor Plumbing and Heating who partner up with us for the first time at Punchestown today. Your support within the Industry does not go unnoticed and we are very thankful for that.
We must also thank Midland Travel and Kavanagh’s Of Naas for their input across the 2022 Winter Festival. Midland Travel are fuelling stablestaff this weekend with plenty of food and drinks to make their long days that little bit easier. They are also putting a great prize up for grabs and one stablestaff member will be the lucky winner of a trip to Paris next summer. Kavanagh’s Bar in Naas have put on a FREE shuttle bus service back into Naas after racing for anyone that wants to extend their evening a bit further so be sure to pop in!
We have Live Music after racing in the Loft Bar so please do head up and bust a few moves before heading home, get the dancing shoes ready. The Punchestown Playroom is also in action. Situated adjacent to the horse walk, pop in with the kids and enjoy some free activities for the little ones.
As you arrived here today you will have seen that we have been very busy with a flagship project as the track widening and extension is well under way. This investment was very carefully considered as, like any additions here, it needs to work hard and serve purpose! This project provides further flexibility for Punchestown to significantly improve the existing layout of the racetrack and it will also greatly assist in accommodating our current racing programme while providing the potential for it to be further enhanced going forward.
Anyone looking for tips could do a lot worse than picking up some very handy Christmas gifts whilst racing with us today! 2022 Punchestown Club Membership, gift vouchers and 20% off festival tickets are all available to purchase in the front entrance building.
Remember, we do it all again tomorrow where the feature €120,000 Unibet Morgiana Hurdle is going to be one of the finest renewals in years. Gates from 10.15am.
Thanks again to you the racegoer for attending today, we really do appreciate your support. We wish you an enjoyable raceday with a few winners!
WELCOME TO
Conor O’Neill, CEO Punchestown Racecourse.

Four of the six hold Royal Bond entries but whether any will be up to that task remains to be seen. HALIBUT is one of the least exposed and still raw but may well have the most potential of these. He will have to jump slicker than he did at Clonmel but gets the vote ahead of The Model Kingdom in race in which none can be ruled out. [Alan Hewison] Source: Racing Post

RACE VERDICT
Jungle Prose is the obvious starting point and could well have still more to offer at this trip. However, slight preference is for the 4yo DR VAL, whose Fairyhouse second was well franked by the winner at Cheltenham subsequently. Others with claims include Tyre Kicker, Alfieri and the reappearing Birdie Blitz. [Alan Hewison] Source: Racing Post

Possibly not the strongest winners’ bumper for the venue. Teuchters Glory is the sole previous winner but his two-year absence suggests training problems. Answering shaped nicely at Thurles after a long absence and could well improve again, but it is probably worth keeping the faith with Goffs Land Rover disappointment CALDWELL POTTER, who could well have benefited from having time off since and comes from a yard in cracking form.
