On behalf of the Kildare Hunt Club and the entire team here at Punchestown Racecourse I’m delighted to welcome you to day two of the 2023 Punchestown Festival. We say it time and time again, although it really is the people that make Punchestown, it simply would not be the same without you. We truly thank you for supporting us in these challenging times and joining us today. We really hope you enjoy everything that the Punchestown experience has to offer.
The eagerly anticipated renewal of the Grade 1 €300,000 Ladbrokes Gold Cup takes centre stage as the feature race today and I would like to welcome all the team from Ladbrokes who are long standing supporters of Punchestown back to the Home of Irish Jump Racing. I would also like to acknowledge and thank all of our sponsors today and indeed over the five days for their continued support. It is their involvement that enables us to showcase the highest calibre of equine and sporting talent on both sides of the Irish Sea, for the grand finale of the Irish jump racing season. Although the season is far from over as we all gather to celebrate the biggest week of the year on the Irish Racing Calendar, with over €3.3 million in prizemoney, featuring 12 Grade 1 Contests that makes Punchestown one of the annual highlights on the Irish sporting calendar.
J.P. McManus is well renowned as being one of the greatest supporters of national hunt racing, not only as a prominent owner, but also as the sponsor of the Adare Manor Opportunity Series, the final of which takes place today. This fantastic initiative provides young jockeys in the early stages of their career with a huge opportunity to gain experience and showcase their talent on the racecourse. This is only one of the many ways both J.P. and Noreen support the racing industry for which we are extremely grateful and I’ve no doubt that we are looking at some of the potential future stars of the weighroom in action.
We’re also thrilled to see such an array of notable entries from the U.K. throughout the week who are set to renew rivalries again on Irish soil. The U.K. involvement is such an integral part of our festival and we sincerely thank all trainers, owners, jockeys and racing fans for making the extra effort to travel to Punchestown. We really do hope you enjoy the experience and we wish you every success and a safe journey home.
The Punchestown Festival really is something to savour and we hope that you enjoy the action on and off the track with a host of entertainment lined up for all to enjoy. Don’t miss a moment of the magic, enjoy the Punchestown experience and we very much look forward to welcoming you back tomorrow for more exhilarating action, with the Ladbrokes Stayers Hurdle the highlight on Day 3.

Very hard to fathom but there could be a bit of value to be had in GOLD SPEED, a previous C&D winner and back down to the mark he was narrowly beaten off at Navan in November. Unanswered will head the market and holds obvious claims, as does Big Debates, while Kingston Retreat is another who could go well at a price. [Alan Hewison]

The aim of RH2RH IRE is to encourage the rehabilitation of retired racehorses/point to point horses to accept their new career as a riding horse and adapt to their new life after racing.
To help achieve these aims the association runs competitions throughout Ireland specific to the needs of the exracehorse/point to point horse.
Every horse is judged on its own merit in their new career winners and losers are equal. Today we have a mixture of horses, some are well known and not so well known to parade, all of whom have been successfully retrained as show horses’ eventers, showjumpers, and leisure horses.

BETTING FORECAST 9-4 Gaelic Warrior, 100-30 Affordale Fury, 5 Embassy Gardens, Favori De Champdou, Salvador Ziggy, 12 Harry Des Ongrais, Whatcouldhavebeen, 25 Franciscan Rock, Kalanisi Star
The Predictor is a ‘Computer Generated’ predicted outcome of the race in visual form, generated by an algorithm of key factors (including eg current form, ratings and going.)
If Gaelic Warrior stays this trip then is the one to beat but that is a big if on softening ground. Affordale Fury ran a fine race in the Albert Bartlett but FAVORI DE CHAMPDOU and Embassy Gardens failed to show their best that day and remain of interest, with the first-named just preferred as a proven graded performer. Salvador Ziggy can go well and his chance will be enhanced if the ground dries out. [Tyrone Molloy] Source: Racing Post

A rematch between the Cheltenham Gold Cup principals. GALOPIN DES CHAMPS proved his stamina at Cheltenham but is equally good back at 3m and seemingly has few flaws.
