Congratulations to our Northamptonshire Community Foundation award winners

A charity supporting children who have experienced trauma, a group tackling litter and a cookery course for survivors of domestic abuse… three of the winners at this year’s Northamptonshire Community Foundation Awards.

Presented at the Royal & Derngate in front of more than 300 guests, the awards showcase the work of volunteers and community groups across the county.

Congratulating the winners and finalists, Community Foundation chief executive Rachel McGrath said: “Our five-year strategy is built around the recovery and revival of our communities, supporting them at this extraordinarily difficult time, recognising the huge scale of the challenge and the economic and social impact that will be felt for many years to come.”

Best Newcomer Award, sponsored by SugaRich Winner: Northants Litter Wombles A community action group of more than 200 volunteers whose vision is to create a litter-free county by 2030. Trailblazer Award, sponsored by Novacroft Winner: Sound Foundations Early Intervention & Psychotherapy Hub A charity that works with parents and babies to provide a range of therapies and workshops. Brilliant Group, sponsored by the University of Northampton Winner: Power of the Mind Networks The group works with widowed Black African and Minority Ethnic women. The Edge Award, sponsored by Bambino Mio Winner: KidsAid Foundation KidsAid Foundation uses creative therapies and wellbeing to support children who have experienced trauma. During the pandemic, their service was inundated with a surge of unfunded referrals. Lifetime Achievement Award, sponsored by Wilson Browne Solicitors Winner: Voluntary Impact Northamptonshire Voluntary Impact Northamptonshire used Community Foundation funding to continue to provide community transport. It has taken on 13 new volunteer drivers and welcomed 118 new members. Lady Juliet Townsend Award for Volunteering Winner: Vince Doherty, The McCarthy-Dixon Foundation Vince helps to prepare, collect and distribute food parcels and supplies and supports the social clubs. High Sheriff Initiative Award Winner: Growing Together Northampton This group runs a summer programme of outdoor activity for children aged 4-10 who live in the most deprived areas of Northampton East. Inspirational Woman Annual Award, in partnership with AVON Winner: Teresa McCarthy-Dixon, The McCarthy-Dixon Foundation Teresa established a foodbank during the pandemic supporting individuals, schools, Adult Social Services and other agencies across Northamptonshire.

Kitchen design expert wins top award

Simon Cull, owner of Discover Kitchen Interior Design based in Aspley Guise has won a top award at the prestigous 2022 Designer Awards.

Simon, pictured, won the category for the ‘Kitchen Design of the Year (under £40k)’ for his design for a local client who had recently renovated their period home and added a contemporary glassfaçade extension.

The kitchen had to occupy parts of both the original building and the new glass extension and Simon worked closely with his client to create a design that united the two areas as a single space, perfect for their large family and for entertaining.

The resulting design, which clearly caught the judges’ eyes, emulates the look and feel of a trendy industrial-style London bar, with contemporary kitchen units alongside the property’s original exposed brickwork.

The Designer Awards celebrate residential and commercial kitchen, bathroom and architectural design products in the UK and worldwide. Now in its 20th year, the established event attracts world-renowned designers and architects as well as senior professionals within the design industry.

Speaking of his achievement after the awards ceremony in London, Simon said “I am thrilled to have won this award. It was a great project to work on and I’m very proud to have created a wonderful kitchen that my client is delighted with.”

Simon has 20 years of experience in the kitchen industry and opened Discover Kitchen Interior Design in 2019.

Based at Crossinglands Business Park in Aspley Guise he has already built a reputation in the local area for offering bespoke kitchen designs and outstanding customer service. He offers a range of kitchen styles from contemporary German handleless to traditional British painted inframe and shaker styles.

Simon said: “I have a different way of working from many kitchen designers. I won’t simply recreate the layout you already have in your kitchen or take a formulaic approach to your new extension. Instead, I’ll look at your space with fresh eyes, come up with ideas you would never have thought of, and even suggest moving a window or door if it improves the way your kitchen design will work.”
