Local man Simon Goodman has continued a fine tradition of supplying and fitting quality flooring to the people of Northamptonshire. Goodman Carpets started by his father Allen in 1962 now offers a huge range of high quality flooring choices for its discerning clientele.
Simon Goodman has spent a lifetime thinking about flooring.

The company, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary, was set up by his parents Allen and Diane Goodman in 1962. After four years in business the couple opened their first store in Northampton’s Barrack Road in 1966.
Demand for the firm’s services saw a move in the early 1970s to Wellingborough Road and it was not long before Simon began his lifelong enthusiasm for flooring. Officially he joined the family firm at 16 but, as Simon said: “I have lived and breathed carpets all my life.”
Simon and wife Carly took over the firm when Allen retired in 2007 with the couple determined to retain the firm’s commitment to a high-quality customer service.
This commitment means Goodman Carpets stands out from the crowd. This firm, unlike many other flooring outlets, offers a wide range of extra services which make life a whole lot easier for customers. A small additional fee will cover the cost of removing furniture and even packing valuables before the old flooring is taken up and taken away for disposal.
“It can make all the difference to customers. They might want a new carpet or lino but would struggle with moving furniture,” said Simon, who is insistent that all flooring is quality checked to avoid any last-minute issues. “I often have customers telling me that if they knew we offered these services they would have got their flooring changed a whole lot sooner.”
The team of professional fitters include some who have worked for Goodman Carpets for more than 20 years. The first decision for customers is to confirm an appointment for Simon to visit their home or business to look through samples.

While some customers may miss the chance to browse around a showroom, Simon and the team have found this ‘athome’ service helps the decision-making process run a whole lot smoother.

You find that some customers have spent a lot of time browsing on the Internet but nothing compares to our service which means they can see how a flooring will work in a room.” “Customers want to see and touch the samples and, if this is in their home, they can see how the colours work with the light in the room and furniture.” A free, no-obligation quote is then drawn up which itemises all the costs so there are no nasty surprises when it comes to pay the bill. Simon said: “We believe in offering a hassle-free service where we can spend time with the customers to ensure they are getting the flooring which meets their budget and their ideas.”
