Letter from the Chairman

A

t the start of the last newsletter I mentioned the blossom was out and that summer was upon us. Unfortunately, summer has now passed but the same photo is being used to try and prolong its passing. As the days draw in and the weather gets colder remember that the Welcome Space is open every Wednesday in the Parish offices based in the library.

On the subject of summer we had the Summer Social at the beginning of August, after torrential rain the day before, thankfully on the day the sun shone. The event was very well attended and featured excellent music sets from a couple of local groups and more importantly, as far as the younger members of the community are concerned, face painting and magic tricks. Thank you to all who participated.

In terms of events Hunsbury Festive Fair will soon be upon us (further details later in the magazine) but before then there is Remembrance Sunday held in Grangewood Park on the 12th November so the parish will be suitably dressed for the occasion. All are welcome so please come and pay your respects.

For Christmas we will be running the Christmas lights competition so if you have a fantastic display outside or your neighbour does then let us know.

On other matters for the younger members of East Hunsbury the Youth Club at Danes Camp Leisure Centre has restarted. This has in the past been very well attended and involves a variety of activities (not all are sport related) The Youth Club is fully funded by the Parish Council and is a good way to meet new friends and try new activities (further details in the magazine) On wider issues affecting East Hunsbury, I mentioned in the last newsletter that a planning application had been submitted for flood alleviation works in Penvale Park. We have just received the Decision Notice approving the plans,

and hope to engage a contractor soon to start these works. In addition residents may have noticed that one of the bridges in the park is cordoned off as it has become unsafe – this will be replaced in the next few weeks.

Residents will note in the magazine a proposed new development of 361 dwellings on land abutting the railway and M1 referred to as the Western Expansion. The developer has made the Parish Council aware of this proposal and a community consultation will take place prior to the planning application being submitted.

The Parish Council will at the relevant time be submitting comments/suggestions as appropriate.

The East Hunsbury Youth Club is back!

F

unded by East Hunsbury parish Council and delivered by Trilogy Active, the East Hunsbury Youth Club returns for another term of fun filled sport, play and craft activities.

Open to children and young people that live in the East Hunsbury Parish, the Youth Club is FREE to attend and takes place every Tuesday during termtime at Danes Camp Leisure Centre. Following on from the success of the Youth club across the 22/23 academic year, the continuation of the program has been backed by both parties, who see the important role these initiatives play in supporting young children and their families in the local area.

Rachel Collings, Trilogy Active’s Physical Activity Development Officer commented, “We are incredibly excited to be able to continue to deliver the Youth Club here at Danes Camp Leisure Centre. The sessions provide an opportunity for young children to make new friends, be creative and engage in physical activity and our ongoing partnership with the parish council will mean more people living in the local area will be able to benefit from this free programme.”

The club aims to promote physical activity and social connections through play and sport. Sessions are varied with both a craft and sport offering to suit the needs of the children attending. Activities include badminton, table-tennis, football, basketball, gymnastics and more, with a special disco skating session held on the third Tuesday of every month.

Delivered by our team of qualified coaches, sessions are well supervised in a friendly and safe environment, with Danes Camp Leisure Centre proven to be an ideal location in the heart of the community.

The Youth Club is delivered at Danes Camp Leisure Centre every Tuesday during term time between 4.45pm-5:45pm for children aged 5-8 years and 6pm-7pm for 9–13-year-olds.

Summer Round Up!

A

nother busy season – Summer had so many highlights for East Hunsbury.

Clubs and activities were all really well attended, with youth club and seniors club, gardening buddies, new links to our local scouts, first fruit at the community orchard – so much going on.

Our activity room has been really busy with local craft groups, and meetings – do remember that this is a really nice room for daytime meetings, available for the local community.

Get Active sessions included yoga, strolling, pétanque, the Big Sing – and Hunsbury Library was packed to the rafters with families taking part in activities and the Summer reading challenge.

Our annual summer event was a fabulous day – The Summer Social in August, the sun eventually shone, and thanks goes to everyone who took part. The WI, with their village tea tent, our local police team and the beat bus, Hunsbury Scouts, the Seniors, information stalls and entertainment.

This year our theme was Love East Hunsbury – with the flags and bugs spreading the message.

Thanks as always to all the local volunteers and organisations who support the parish council, to deliver our programme. We could not do so, without your hard work. Team East Hunsbury!

Our Simon de Senlis adventure

I

t has been a wonderful start to the new year at Simon de Senlis Primary School, with the whole school excited for the year ahead. In addition to the broad curriculum, the children also experience many additional opportunities over the year and this year, these opportunities have been grouped together to create the ‘My Simon de Senlis Adventure’ a commitment of at least 50 additional exciting opportunities that every child will complete during their seven years at school.

This adventure includes 50 wonderful opportunities and experiences that every child in the school will take part in during their journey through the school from Reception to Year Six. These opportunities include visiting art galleries, museums and universities in order to explore art, artefacts and engineering. We know that music is such an important part of a child’s life and so this is added to the adventure, where children will learn to play a variety of musical instruments including the violin, the trumpet, the African drums, the ukulele and the recorder; along with listening to and watching professional musicians perform.

The performance element of music is such an important part of all children’s development and so included in the adventure, children will have the opportunity to perform on a stage in front of a live audience. This will take part throughout the years

to families and friends but also to wider audiences at local theatres such as the Derngate. At Simon de Senlis we never forget the simple wonders of the natural world and how important these are for children’s wellbeing and happiness, and so we included these in our adventure- a visit to the seaside, building a sandcastle, making a mud pie, building a den, roasting marshmallows on an open fire and travelling on a zip, we know will be loved by everyone. Leadership is another quality that the children at Simon de Senlis will develop, where every child will be given the opportunity to become a leader and to vote for their leaders across school.

Democracy, being so important, is also included, with children voting for their own school council leader to represent them in whole school decision making, they will also meet their local MP and amazingly, culminating in Year 6 pupils visiting the Houses of Parliament. At Simon de Senlis, we love reading and it is an important part of every child’s development at Simon de Senlis. We all love to read, and the joy of reading is one that is taught across our school, where every child has access to thousands of books within class libraries and within our vibrant and exciting whole school library. In addition to these books, as part of their adventure, children will read 100 of the most influential children’s literature from Reception to Year 6.

These wonderful experiences within our Simon de Senlis Adventure, in addition to our amazing curriculum, will aid every child’s emotional and social development, along with enabling them to grow into responsible and driven young people as they progress through the school.

In addition to this, as we returned to school in September, we were thrilled to be announced as the winning school within our area of the Summer Reading Challenge, where the highest number of pupils took part in and completed the exciting reading challenge at the Hunsbury library. Even more exciting was that we have won this award for the third year running. This really demonstrates how much children love to read at Simon de Senlis and how amazing our families are!

Simon de Senlis is such a giving school, where children, families and staff take their time to help and support others. We are currently receiving donations from families for our Harvest collection for The Hope Centre, again showing the caring nature of our whole school family. The staff at Simon de Senlis also make a conscious effort each year to support local charities, raising funds and giving time as frequently as possible.

Two weeks ago, the staff took part in a Saturday morning 12km walk around Pitsford reservoir, aiming to walk 200km in total and hoping to raise

funds for Cynthia Spencer. Everyone was so proud to achieve the 200km target and so far we have raised £600 for Cynthia Spencer. In addition, staff are currently gathering duvets and blankets to give to the homeless. Many staff also support the ‘100 Ladels’ charity which prepares food for the homeless each Saturday evening and, a charity very close to our hearts, SMAuk, is supported each year with a staff fund raising effort at Christmas. Giving is such a special thing to do, and as a school family we continue to think of others either at school or further afield within our community.

Simon de Senlis is such a wonderful school, the teachers, children and families are an amazing community and a great family.

Our school family is one where together we are ensuring that all children are able to succeed and achieve. On top of our amazing curriculum, the introduction of the ‘Simon de Senlis Adventure’ ensures that every child will experience exceptional opportunities on top of the wonderful teaching and learning that takes place each day. It has been wonderful to welcome the children back to school after the summer holidays and after the amazing successes of the previous year, we know that this year will continue to be another superb year at Simon de Senlis.

A year 7 day ... but, its the Wootton Park way

A

s summer ends and the hallways bustle with anticipation, Wootton Park School greets its newest members: The new cohort of Year 7 students. With a sense of superiority in the air, I began my first secondary day at this wonderful, all-through institution, anticipating a successful year ahead.

Tutor Time With Mrs Payne The day introduced itself with a warm welcome from my amazing form tutor: Mrs Payne. During Tutor Time, Mrs Payne introduced herself and made us familiar with the school's policies and expectations, cementing the importance of respect, determination and collaboration to all the learners. This guidance made me forget about all the nerves that had lingered in me from the previous day, reassuring me that Wootton Park was the perfect place to continue my educational journey.

My Favourite Subject: Maths As the day opened before me, my excitement soared when I got to experience one of my favourite subjects, Maths. The Maths classroom had a serene hum that gently followed the breeze and out of the windows into the KS1 (Key Stage 1) playground. The breeze was filled with me and my classmates' enthusiastic ideas as we worked together, tackling problemsolving challenges with the supervision of our maths teacher, Mrs McDonald.

Breaks And Lunches While I knew that expanding my knowledge was the spearhead of the day, Wootton Park was also able to recognize the importance of leisure and socializing. During breaks and lunches, the vibrant school playground came alive as all the secondary students socialized, playing games of tag, or simply chatting with new friends. However, the playground is not the only place. The field is a suitably sized space where secondary can play football with their mates or talk under the shade of trees. The positive atmosphere led by these daily interactions supplies a sense of community, making myself and others feel welcome and supported throughout the day.

Food Every day, you can buy food before school, at lunch or at break. I enjoyed the Belgian Waffle and Pizza. To clarify, the school is aware of different allergies, so you just need to let them know. Daily, there is a new special at lunch that you can purchase from the Snack Shack or the canteen. There is also a FREE salad bar where I regularly collect a suitable amount of carrot slices and chopped peppers. YUM!

Enrichment Clubs One of the major highlights of my first day was discovering Wootton Park's wide range of enrichment clubs. During my lunch break, I delved deep into the extensive list of hundreds of lunchtime clubs and after-school clubs on offer, varying from drama and all the way to Pokémon club! This wonderful opportunity to explore my passions outside of the classroom promises to be an exciting endeavour throughout Year 7.

What Are My and My Classmates’ Thoughts of Our First Day? As I concluded my first day at Wootton Park School, I could not help but feel an overwhelming sense of excitement about the year ahead. The engaging Tutor Time, captivating lessons in Maths, enjoyable breaks, lunches, and the myriad of clubs display the school's commitment to topclass education. With every day bringing new possibilities, I can say that Wootton Park School has set the stage for an extraordinary learning experience throughout secondary. Here is what multiple of my fellow Year 7’s has to say: “Better than expected.” says Archie.

Every day is a reading day at East Hunsbury Primary School

E

ast Hunsbury Primary School (EHPS) takes reading very seriously and sees it as their mission to find the reader within every child. Here is a taster of the wonderful reading experiences they offer…

RED October Read Every Day (RED) October is a much anticipated and exciting annual event at EHPS. Throughout the whole month of October, children have the opportunity to take part in a variety of brilliant bookish challenges including a bookthemed RED mufti day which the staff join in too!

Furthermore, throughout the month we invite authors and illustrators into school to inspire our budding writers. Over the last 2 years, we have had virtual, and in-person visits, from Nick Sharratt, Jenny McLachlan, SF Said, James Carter and Luke Temple (and more) and this year we are excited to welcome Mini Grey, Thomas Taylor and @wordguerrilla. 100 reads EHPS is committed to getting children reading widely. The EHPS 100 reads are 100 books specially selected by our staff which we feel every child should experience during their childhood – enriching books that will bring something unique to their lives. Did you know that we have a special poster which was designed by a member of our teaching staff and these books are so important to us, they are on our classroom doors?

Library Sitting at the heart of our school is our library which is led by our knowledgeable librarian.

Recently, we made a huge investment to ensure that it was filled with quality books that are representative of our brilliant and diverse culture.

It is important to us that that every child can find themselves represented in literature and it’s a joy to see the children choosing a book that they love.

Reading Ambassadors Overseeing our reading experiences are our dedicated Reading Ambassadors. They help promote the love of reading across the school, write our termly reading newsletter, keep the library organised and lead assemblies and events! They are amazing and a role model many children aspire to.

Our reading spine includes a wonderful variety of classic and modern books such as: The Owl who was afraid of the dark by Jill Tomlinson, Charlotte’s Web by EB White and Orphans of the Tide by Struan Murray (to name but a few).

We even have a performance poetry spine where children read and learn poems off by heart (this year we won the prestigious @NPAT Poetry Slam competition).

Curriculum Whilst we understand the importance of raising the profile of reading, we also love teaching children to read through our exceptional reading curriculum. Reading starts from day 1 in the Early Years. Phonics is taught daily by expert teachers and as children move up through the school, they will also have lessons focussed on understanding challenging and rich texts through talk and discussion.

Furthermore, every day children will be read to by an adult from our carefully chosen reading spine.

Christmas in East Hunsbury

C

hristmas will soon be upon us, and the Parish team are working with partners to present festive activities for our community.

We kick things off on Saturday 25th November with Hunsbury Festive Fair, now a firm fixture in people’s calendars! A joint event, run by the parish and library teams, the event will once again feature stallholders selling handcrafted items and foody treats, local choirs will entertain, and the wonderful women of East Hunsbury WI will be running their amazing pop-up café. Add to this, East Hunsbury Seniors with their mulled wine stall, and the switch on of the community Christmas tree, and you are set for another excellent day! The Fair runs from 11am – 4pm, with the tree switch on at 4.30pm outside the Library on Clannell Rd.

Following on from the Festive Fair, for the crafty types, why not come and make your own Christmas Wreath for the front door? Join amazing florist, Jill Webb at the Library on Wednesday 29th November at 6pm. Places are limited, and always book up quickly - £30 per person.

Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a good old sing song! So please join us for The Christmas Big Sing on Thursday 14th December. Our regular community singing group is one for the grown-ups, with pop up café and a warm welcome. 12noon – 1pm. Pop in and sing!

The Chronicles of Jingle by Sophie, aged 8

O

nce upon a magical land with witches, wizards, dragons and fairies, lived…

Santa Claus!

One year, on a cold, wintery day, the elves and Santa were busy preparing for Christmas. Just then, there was a crash and a bang as a small elf fell down the chimney covered in soot from head to toe. Santa frowned and sighed. ‘What have you done this time, Jingle?’ Jingle was a curious little elf who was always getting himself into some sort of trouble.

‘He was probably trying to steal your sleigh but the reindeer wouldn’t let him,’ giggled Holly scornfully.

Everyone laughed except for Santa who just scolded, ‘Enough with your jokes, Holly. Let’s hear what Jingle has to say for himself.’

‘Well, at first, I went up to the roof to fix a tile but then I saw your new flying boots so I tried them on and then I went blasting far off into space. I saw everything; planets, stars and the moon! It was terrifying so I tried to take them off but they ripped and exploded and then I fell tumbling down to earth and straight down the chimney,’ muttered Jingle.

(The good thing about Jingle is you can always get the truth out of him.)

Santa boomed at the top of his voice, ‘What were you thinking, Jingle? Don’t be so silly. You’re on a Time Out, Jingle Pout!’

‘Noooo! I hate jingle bells!’ screamed Jingle.

The Time Out Jingle Pout was where you were sat in a dark room with all the things you hate and Jingle hated jingle bells so that’s what he heard while he had a Time Out Jingle Pout.

Jingle sat silently in the dark room and waited and waited. And waited some more. Jingle was just beginning to secretly hope that his mishap had been forgotten when… the room filled with the unmistakable sound of jingle bells! Jingle put his hands over both his ears and bellowed at the top of his voice, ‘Santa! I’m sorry!’

Santa peered into the dark room and saw how miserable Jingle was. Christmas was a time for smiles, celebrations and all your favourite things.

Not all the worst things. It was no good: Santa let Jingle out.

When Jingle was let out, he went shopping for new flying boots for Santa, wrote an apology note, made 1000 presents and then went to Santa to show him all that he had done. Santa was very happy and forgave Jingle. Do you think Jingle learnt his lesson?

No, I’m not sure either!

Washlands Circular Walk Written by Dave Askew

W

hat a strange year of weather it’s been, one minute cold and wet and the next very warm.

It doesn’t help with the decision making as to whether to wear shorts on a walk or not!

This edition’s 3.4 mile walk covers the nearby Washlands, a place that many people who live in Northamptonshire don’t know exists. It’s an amazing place and has two functions. Firstly, it’s a holding basin to hold water and prevent flooding further down the Nene and, secondly, it’s one of the most important places for migrating birds in Europe, many species of which over-winter here, or just rest when passing through.

Whilst you’re not allowed into the basin, the footpath does skirt the edge so, if you do have a pair of binoculars you may see something special.

This walk starts in lovely Little Houghton outside the Four Pears pub (always a bonus!). From here it heads down across the fields and to the Nene and into Billing Aquadrome. Look out for the mound on your right as you descend the hill. This is Clifford Hill on which once stood the motte of Little Houghton Castle. It was one of the largest in England.

From here we follow the river, past the wonderful Northampton Boat Club which was formed in 1911. The path into Washlands crossed one of the massive sluice gates.

If you fancy exploring it further there’s a path that follows the river up to the Whitewater Centre where you can grab a coffee and then come back.

This walk however bears left along the raised bank before leaving it to head up pastures to arrive back in Little Houghton.

It’s a great family walk and we often do it as a sunset walk as the views are amazing.

anes Camp Medical Centre has, for the last three decades, served the local communities of the two Hunsburys , Collingtree, Delapre, Hardingstone and Sixfields.

We, as the dedicated Patient Participation Group (PPG), are delighted to support the Practice and its patients and are looking to recruit new members to join our PPG Team. Comprising of volunteers, we meet just four times a year with members of the Practice Team to offer invaluable support and advice. It’s a great opportunity for individuals with diverse backgrounds and life experiences to share their insights and wisdom with the Practice team.

As Danes Camp Medical Centre continues to evolve and grow, always striving to provide its patients with the highest standard of healthcare services, the PPG are immensely proud to be part of serving the patient community in the best possible way for many more decades to come.

Christmas Baking O

ur wonderful East Hunsbury WI are busy planning for our Festive Fair, where they will be hosting their pop-up café.

So, we asked them to share one of their yummy bakes, so we can also make it at home. This one is simply stunning.

Mincemeat and Almond Cake Ingredients

140g margarine 140g caster sugar 2 eggs 140g ground almonds 140g self-raising flour ¼ tsp almond extract 225g mincemeat 1 orange zested 2 tbsp flaked almonds

Instructions

1. Heat the oven to 160C (fan assisted, or 180C non fan) and the line a loose bottomed 8-inch cake tin.

2. Mix the margarine and sugar until light and fluffy, at least 5 minutes.

3. Add the eggs, ground almonds, flour and almond extract and mix together until combined.

4. Add the orange zest and fold through.

5. Spread half the mix into the tin and then add the mincemeat and spread out.

6. Spread the rest of the cake mix on top of the mincemeat and scatter with flaked almonds. Bake for 4550 minutes and check it is done by using a cocktail stick, if it comes out clean the cake is done.

7. Allow to cook in the tin for 30 minutes or so before turning out and leave to cool on wire rack.

Barn Owl is already making a difference for young people

E

stablished in 2021 WiNurture Childcare was formed by a group of care professionals with over 25 years’ experience in childcare who have the desire to make a difference to young people and the communities they live in. Welcoming a Children’s home to the local community can be daunting for some but it is important we shed some light on how amazing children’s homes can be and challenge the stigmatism they face amongst many local communities.

Barn Owl is a local children’s home who are striving to challenge negative stereotypes and integrate as a positive part of the local community. When initially planning Barn Owl it was clear that there was a lot of hesitation around the home opening. It was important that an opportunity was given to come together to dispel fears and reassure residents that Barn Owl only wanted to belong and thrive in their beautiful neighbourhood. Directors attended a residents meeting where questions and comments were welcomed so the company could hear and respond to any concerns raised without judgement.

WiNurture’s Manager Aaron Shambrook explained “It is important to note many neighbours have

been incredibly welcoming and the ones who were hesitant have noted how pleasantly surprised they have been.”

After only being open just over 4 months the homes first Ofsted inspection noted, “Self-worth is consistently promoted for all children. Staff have created a positive and nurturing home environment where children feel comfortable to make mistakes.”

Since being open the home has invited neighbours into the home for bake sales, Christmas parties and most recently the King's Coronation. The children love making the invitations and hand delivering these to local neighbours.

WiNurture Childcare encourages homes to go above and beyond in not only building a stable, nurturing, and loving children’s home for its children but also supports partnership working which helps other children in the local community.

Ofsted also noted “Managers have quickly made strong links with the local community. They have developed a joint initiative to create a community youth club for children with similar support needs.”

Barn Owl hopes it continues to build positive and supportive relationships with the local community and is grateful that the children get to grow up in a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment.

East Hunsbury Remembers

ach year our community comes together to focus on remembrance, including our community gathering on Remembrance Sunday – this year on Sunday 12th November.

In the lead up to that Sunday, we will once again set out our community poppy display, made by residents of all ages, crafters, seniors, and schools.

Our local schools will also come to place the wooden crosses and other faith symbols, from the Royal British Legion. Consultation announced for proposed new development Vistry Latimer Collingtree LLP and Lagan Homes will shortly begin consultation on plans for a new development of up to 361 new homes known as the NSSUE Western Expansion.

It will also provide new public open space, a children’s play area, and funding to support local services including education, healthcare, and highways.

The site borders the M1, with East Hunsbury to the north and the railway line to the west. It is located to the west of a larger development known as the Northampton South Sustainable Urban Extension (NSSUE), which is currently under construction.

The plans are still at the very early stages and prior to submitting a planning application we will be launching a consultation with the local community. This will include a newsletter and feedback form being sent to those living nearest to the site and a website that provides further details on the plans and allows the community to provide feedback on the proposals.

The site has been allocated for development by West Northamptonshire Council, meaning that it is deemed a suitable location for new homes.

The wider NSSUE development includes a new local centre with retail facilities, land for a new primary school, sports pitches, and a new community facility.

The proposals for the NSSUE Western Expansion will deliver much-needed homes for West Northamptonshire, which needs to deliver over 2,000 new

Meet your local Police Liaison Representative Cllr David Lewis

I

am the elected Police Liaison Representative for East Hunsbury Parish Council. I represent our council at regular local forums; attended by the Police Fire and Crime Commissioner, The Chief Constable and the Chief Fire Officer. The forums are managed by Northamptonshire County Association of Local Councils, in conjunction with the PFCC’s office.

The meetings consist of a number of presentations, normally delivered by the PFCC, the Chief Constable, the Chief Fire Officer, and or, their nominated representatives. Occasionally other speakers are also invited to address the attendees.

Councillors throughout Northamptonshire, who like me, are the elected representatives of their respective councils, also attend the forums.

The presentations provide a platform to apprise councils as to the strategy and focus of the Police, the Fire Service and the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioners Office, throughout Northamptonshire, on a regular basis.

The meetings also afford an opportunity for attendees to ask questions and raise issues of concern with the key decision makers / appropriate authority.

It is also part of my role to report back at our regular monthly meetings to apprise our council of the topics covered during the forums and the status/outcome of any issues I may have previously been asked to raise. In addition, I will also draw attention to any worthwhile initiatives which may be of benefit our community.

One of these initiatives was Off the Streets NN, highlighted in a presentation given by an invited guest speaker, Rav Jones.

Rav talked about the work his organisation is doing to raise levels of awareness throughout Northants in relation to knife crime and the consequences of knife crime. He talked about a proactive programme to promote and gain

sponsorship for the purchase of critical bleed cabinets, creating a network of cabinets throughout the county.

The cabinets contain items to treat blood loss in victims of serious assault, accident, or injury.

The cabinets are normally located externally thus affording easy access to members of the public, in the case of an emergency.

Access to the cabinets is obtained in the same way as access to a defibrillator cabinet.

Subsequent to Rav’s presentation, I raised the question of sponsorship of bleed cabinets at our regular full council meeting. I am very pleased to inform you that following some further enquiry, your council unanimously agreed to the purchase of two such cabinets, both of which are now installed in our parish.

Going forward; I have been asked to write a regular article for inclusion in our parish magazine.

The article will summarise and chronicle the salient points arising from the meetings I attend, in my capacity as your PLR. I will also include details of any emerging crime patterns and other topics, which may directly or indirectly have some local impact.

News from King Richard Court

A

wide variety of different events go on here each month. Recently we started Carpet Bowls again, which is very much enjoyed. To make it suitable for all you can either use a Bean Bag or a Bowl. When the photo was taken all the men were hiding behind the camera!

Before the hot weather arrived, we held a Summer BBQ. Unfortunately, it was a very cool day. A few hardies, or maybe mad residents sat outside, but the majority stayed inside to eat. In or out, we enjoyed all the BBQ food along with fresh salad. We then had a lovely mixed fruit stick, filled with a wide variety of fruit, all washed down with Pimm's, or the drink of your choice.

We have had an excellent talk by the local police on how to look out for scams and how to deal with any you may receive.

Also Griff, our local vicar, enthralled us with his life story from being a boy in Wales, through his twenty years in the military, right through to the present time as a vicar in East Hunsbury.

A new event is to hold a wine, or other drink, with nibbles evening once a month The outstanding event of the period has to be the Coffee Morning and Raffle for The Alzheimer’s Society. This was organised by Pam, who originally started the Support Group for all carers past and present. The coffee morning raised the outstanding amount of £1,088. Thanks to Pam and all who gave gifts before the event and also attended on the day.

Also, to celebrate the group’s first anniversary, Pam arranged a wonderful party for us to enjoy.

Everyone is invited to come and join us for our Autumn Bazaar on 28th October 10.30am onwards. This will include Christmas stalls, sweet stalls, cakes, bacon rolls, handmade wreaths, glass art, warm mulled wine plus many more stalls and activities for all to enjoy.

The Welcome Space on Wednesdays!

ednesdays at the Parish Office – are slightly different to other days…

In a good way!

Whilst our door is open for the community to come in, meet with us, Wednesdays sees our parish activity room transformed.

Each Wednesday, we set up the space as your own front room!

The kettle is on, the radio is on, and people can help themselves to a cuppa and a biscuit.

There are magazines and newspapers, board games and a chance to sit and chill out.

The idea was born out of Warm Spaces, which were funded by WNC, to help people during last winter. At East Hunsbury Parish Council, we now intend to keep the space open to the community throughout the summer. Thanks goes to local volunteers who help with this project.

So just pop in, meet up with friends. We are currently looking at requests from residents for using the space for smaller groups, chess club, art sessions etc... (n.b. one Wednesday per month, we give the space to a new art group. On those days, the Welcome Area will move and be signposted in the main Library room).
