US giant completes purchase of surveillance specialist Acquisition boosts global capability to tackle national security threats
T
he acquisition of a surveillance and countermeasure specialist in Northamptonshire by a leading manufacturer of detection and location systems is set to boost domestic and allied government agencies’ capabilities to deal with threats to national security worldwide. Enterprise Control Systems, based at Wappenham near Towcester, is now part of the SPX Corporation. SPX, headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, expects the deal to generate new revenue of between $12 million and $14 million. ECS, founded in 1988, is a leader in the design and manufacture of highly-engineered tactical datalinks and radio frequency countermeasures, including jammers to counter drones and improvised explosive devices. The company is expected to contribute significantly to SPX’s
communications technology platform. Founder Colin Bullock said: “We are very pleased to be part of SPX as it creates numerous opportunities for employees and customers to continue our growth journey. Combining ECS’ expertise in RF countermeasures and encrypted data links systems with SPX’s strengths in RF detection and location systems, as well as its global infrastructure and resources, is a great opportunity to further advance product development and extend the reach of our combined, high-value solutions to a broader customer base.” Together, ECS and SPX subsidiary TCI plan to provide customer-tailored solutions.
