ixty years ago the construction of Bedford Heights, the venue for Your Business Expo, attracted worldwide attention for its architectural style. The building, which is a blueprint of the Dallas headquarters of original owners Texas Instruments, has in recent years undergone extensive refurbishment by current owners Verve Developments Ltd, ensuring Bedford Heights remains a key part of the region’s landscape.

Texas Instruments Bedford was the company’s first European manufacturing site and a wide range of electronic products and components designed and manufactured at the state of the art facility were used in applications across the world.

Texas Instruments, which would eventually become the town’s biggest employer, remained in Bedford for more than three decades before making a move to Northampton in 1993.

Bedford Heights was bought in 2014 by current owners Verve Developments Ltd and is now the business home and workplace of over 80 different companies and 1600

people. With office suites ranging in size from 100 to 70,000 sq ft, Bedford Heights can accommodate all types of businesses from start-ups to established corporates.

A diverse and dynamic mix of businesses are based at the large business centre including sophisticated electronics manufacturers, a children’s reading charity, an award winning edtech company and even an eye hospital.

Thanks to its transformation, Bedford Heights has become a desirable and thriving commercial hub featuring a wide range of amenities including a large conference venue and meeting rooms, café and wellness studio, stylish lounge, co working space, gym and hotel.

Katie Bowden, Interior designer at Verve Developments Ltd, had a vision for Bedford Heights which was to create an environment that is welcoming, pleasing to the eye and calming; a place where people would return to time and again.

As well as transforming the interior of Bedford Heights, the vast grounds were also treated to considerable improvement.

The jewel in the crown is the Texan Riverbed Garden, which greets resident businesses and visitors as they approach the building and, in a nod to the building’s history, features a range of native Texan plants. It is believed to be the UK’s only Texan garden.

In addition to the Texan Garden there are three courtyards including a kitchen garden and another with an apiary which is home to a colony of bees, who produce the very special Heights Honey.

A graffiti mural in a space dubbed Wembley Way has transformed a once bland and unappealing corridor at Bedford Heights into a bright, impressive breakout space for the centre’s resident businesses.

When Verve bought Bedford Heights in 2014, Director Tim Pain immediately drew an association between the infamous tunnel at Wembley stadium leading to the underground and the rather nondescript corridor. The name stuck and with Verve based in London, designer Katie Bowden set her sights on incorporating the London Underground brand into the building.
