Molly Simpson and Daleny Vaughn kicked off their 2025 season on the USA BMX Pro Series tour, but they made their presence known on the international circuit landing on the podium at the opening stops of the 2025 UCI BMX World Cup.
Canada’s Molly Simpson not only leads the USA BMX Pro Series with six wins in the early season but now she is officially a World Cup winner thanks to her powerful main event lap at round two in Sarrians, FRA.

The glitz and glam of winning the Gold Medal is cool enough but to deck out the next season’s race kits with gold is next level. BMXers take pride in their gear, “Look good, feel good.” So a Fly helmet decked out in gold has Joris Daudet looking and riding in true form.
Designed by Wadz William Charbonnier, Daudet’s 2025 FLY helmet features a metallic base with Gold highlights, but if you look closer the helmet takes on a cyberpunk look with wire connections spanning through the matte carbon from the FLY Racing factory.
A rider favorite is back in the BOX Components rotation. The BOX One Stealth Pro Oversized Hubs are bringing improved technology to their instant engagement hub. Giving riders lightning fast response to their cranks, the Stealth Hubs could be the missing piece to your next build.

MADE IN THE USA BY PROFILE RACING
It’s a sign that summer has begun in Richmond, VA, when the crowds amass for another Flat Pedal Pro-Am at Richmond BMX. Started in 2018, this pro-am open event promises over $10,000 in cash prizes with equal pay structures for men’s and women’s open races, and there’s only one requirement: EVERYONE races on flat pedals! The competition and the stoke continue to grow each year, and 2025 was no different. Over 30 men
and 11 women entered the open, including the return of the last four men’s champions; Anthony Bucardo (2021),
CORBEN’S SPEED: Out front all day long, Tucson’s Corben Sharrah charged to the win and big payout in Richmond.
Jeremy Smith (2022), Reuben Garcia (2023), and Corben Sharrah (2024), as well as 2024’s entire women’s podium;
Mila Kelly, Piper Yockelson and returning champ Elida Beeman.
The heat was on during the qualifying rounds, with standouts and fan favorites making big moves in every moto. The returning champs may have been favored to take the podium, but newcomers to the event like Marshall Gehrke and Mia
Custer would not make it easy for them, and both would make the main event.
Spectators and riders were in for a treat as the stacked main events took place. Up for grabs… $12,000 in cash after all entry fees plus $100 per rider was added to the purse by the track. Prize money was paid to all main event riders in both open classes, but it was the top three in each who took home the big checks. Corben Sharrah and Elida Beeman took home back-to-back wins, making Corben the first male and Elida the second female to do so.
AUTOGRAPH TIME: Making memories and fans for the local rippers of Richmond BMX.

MILTON LAUNCHES THE SEASON
RACE for the PLATE rocks MILTON - The Ontario provincial series got underway on June 7 at Milton BMX. Originally called Track 2000, Milton BMX first opened in 1982 and has a long legacy of hosting major races with style. Best of all, we’re headed back there for the Maple Leaf Nationals in August as part of the 2025 Summer National Tour.
POSTER GIRL: ALYSSA SMITH
Momentum Racing’s Alyssa Smith jumped into the new Junior DEVO class at the BC Provincials and the Kamloopsian quickly found another gear and two consecutive trips to the podium.
The new open-style class for 14-16 year olds is designed to increase the competition level at the provincial series.
The class will evolve into a showcase for BC’s emerging talent and could eventually be used to select Provincial Teams in the future.

The Factory Motofill star showed up at the World Qualifier in Sicamous, BC and walked away with an all-expensepaid trip to Switzerland after winning the Elite Women’s final!
Daylight’s Drew Solmes came within .12 of a second from winning the Men’s Elite division, but it was Bas van Steenbergen laid down the lap of the day and booked his trip to the land of cheese and chocolate.

REBUILD READY
It’s been a busy year for track builders across the country including several of our 2025 National series tracks in BC.
Marie Davidson BMX Park - The Nanaimo track was closed for all of 2024 season but it has been well worth the wait. Their new track has set a new standard and sits next to the Stevie Smith bike park and pump track. That means their National weekend is going to be rider’s paradise.
A GRAND RE-OPENING IN NANAIMO
Rob Dodds , who designed the new sign boards, stands with Kathy Davidson on the big day.

The 2nd annual Canadian BMX Hall of Fame is set to take place at Langley BMX in conjunction with the BC Provincial Finals weekend on Sept 5-6.

FRASER VALLEY NATIONALS
TBThe Fraser Valley Nationals serve as the season opener for the Canadian series, while most of the visiting Ameri can riders are already in full flight. But this year, the Canadians were on their game and ended up winning 52 of the 87 main events on Saturday, a trend that remained intact through all three days.
ig doubles, many troubles. After pulling out of the classic wide sweeping right-hand turn, riders were greeted with a steep double that quickly became the talk of the weekend. For some it was a gateway to a getaway, while others were left with bruised egos and bodies.
he new Superclass series (formerly Pro-am) saw last year’s Champs in action to defend their titles, while a new 30+ Men’s class made its successful debut. In Superclass Men, we fully expected Dan gerboy’s Zach Frier to stake his claim early, but it was Albe’s Lucas Zhou who stole the show, win ning both days. Keira Murphy, Dangerboy’s leading lady, looked fast and smooth on her way to winning Superclass Women. The 30+ Men only ran on Saturday, and it was Alejandro Alcojor-Ramos of Whistler who won the inaugural class. We should see the class grow as the season winds on.
We highlighted three fast femmes in the March/April edition of Pull Magazine and they all validated our predictions. Dangerboy’s Elle Foo-Donais, one of only three Canadians in her main, boosted the peaky doubles on her way to winning 12 Expert Girls while adding to her legend as a fearless flyer. Daylight’s Logan Lee continued her hot streak in Canada with a triple on the weekend, as did Motofill’s Tiffany Brosius. Expect to see these three in the hunt for the National amateur girl’s title in October.
Rift/Tangent, the reigning National #1 Team, were unstoppable on Friday and Saturday but Bike Supplies, pulled the upset on Sunday, thanks in part to Liam Foo-Donais’ epic win in 10 Expert boys. In a weekend full of heartbreak and triumph, his smile captured the essence of that moment when all of the preparation and training is finally realized.
Fly Racing Canada walked away with the Team Trophy on Friday, but the rest of the weekend was owned by North Shore BMX, who captured the trophy on Saturday and Sunday. By the time you read this, the Canadian National series will be in full swing and the leaderboards will have changed hands more than once.
ALL SMILES: It’s hard to play runner-up in BMX. Let’s face it, everyone wants that big win. That’s exactly what happened on Sunday when Liam Foo-Donais (middle) finally crossed the line with everyone in the rear view mirror.
Words by: Kevin O’Brien Photos by: Makayla Brosius / KOB
FLAT OUT: Hamish Sherman was the only Canadian to make the ultracompetitive 12 Expert main all three days. Motofill’s rising star managed a solid fourth in a class that was in the blender the whole weekend.
MAD DOG: Red Deer’s Maddox ‘Mad Dog’ Riley picked up a pair of thirds in 9 Expert boys.
PROVINCES IN ATTENDANCE: QUEBEC, SASKATCHEWAN, ONTARIO, ALBERTA & BC
STYLE FOR STILES: With his eyes fixed on making the Canadian National Team, Dallen Brereton-Stiles came out blazing in 16 Expert, taking all three days in style. He had to settle for third in fourth in Superclass, but his time may be coming sooner than later.
AIRTIME ELLE: The double coming out of turn one was big trouble for most, but not ‘Dangergirl’ Elle Foo-Donais. She’s quickly making a name for herself as a big-air booster and she literally jumped her way to three consecutive wins.
STORY BEHIND THE SMILE:
Randy Riches literally jumped his way to the win on Sunday - But it didn’t come easy for the reigning Cruiser Champ. RR1 hucked the doubles coming out of turn one, froze in mid-air, then just managed to squeeze past the leader to snag the big win.
SKYDIVER: Factory Syndyt’s Payton Duffy skies it over the trouble double. She went 3-2-3 in 16 Expert girls and then dabbled in Open and on Sunday, made her debut in Women’s Superclass with a solid seventh.
THAT’S SUPER:
The newly rebranded classes made an immediate impact with mains in both the 14-29 men’s and Alejandro Alcojor Ramos won the first ever 30+ Mens class, this group should catch on in the near future. Keira Murphy won the Women’s class both days, while Lucas Zhou beat out reigning #1 Zack Frier on the Men’s side. Expect to see these battles heat up by mid-season.

The 2025 USA BMX Freestyle Series kicked off at Premises Park in Tucson, Arizona - a park that has essentially become a staple in amateur Freestyle.
Premises owner Ian Abbott backs the Tucson scene to the fullest and pulled out all of the stops to make all of the riders feel welcome when it was time to shred!
Festivities kicked off with the Post-Practice Jam on Friday, where riders competed in games of footdown and then threw down tricks for prizes and cash. Saturday morning, the competition got moving and all of the competitors brought the action.

2025 USA BMX FREESTYLE SERIES
Words & Photos by: Kyle Carlson
The second stop of the 2025 USA BMX Freestyle Series went down on June 7th at Alliance Skatepark in Grand Prairie, Texas. The crew behind the park put in work and finished up some brand new ramps just in time for the Post-Practice Jam on Friday, which opened up a ton of new lines and possibilities at the long-standing facility. On event day, both the riders and the weather brought the Texas heat. Riders of basically all agesfrom 8 to 61 - gave it their all and showed off the true definition of Freestyle. From Connor Stitt’s flairwhips to Caden Parker’s vader slides, all BMX bases were covered. Huge thank you to Mark, Victor, Mike, Joe, and the rest of the crew at Alliance who made all of this possible!

SAIGE THUNSTROM: Airing the quarter to put her run on the judges minds.
The 2025 Monster Energy Recon Tour launched into high gear with a massive opening stop that delivered all the style, intensity, and BMX fun that the tour is loved for. Hosted at Dodson Action Sports Park, the first stop of the tour didn’t just set the bar, it shredded it.
With a stacked field of riders and a crowd surrounding the fence, the stage was set for a day of nextlevel BMX action. From first runs to final heats, the energy never let up, and two names stood out above the rest, Bryce Tryon and Saige Thunstrom.
Bryce Tryon came in swinging with a signature mix of power, flow, and tech. From his opening drop-in, it was clear he meant business.
Tryon’s run was a highlight reel of massive airs, precise transfers, and unique lines. Bryce didn’t just ride the course— he owned it. His confidence, style, and sheer consistency made it clear why he’s one of the most respected names on the scene. With this win, Tryon sets the tone for the rest of the season and paints a target heading into stop #2.
On the women’s side, Saige Thunstrom was all gas, no brakes. Mixing style and control with fearless progression, she laid down one of the cleanest and most technical runs of the day. Thunstrom’s performance included stylish airs on the quarter and truck driver over the box that sealed the deal. Her riding didn’t just win over the
judges, Saige is here to shake things up in 2025, and if stop one is any indicator, she’s more than ready to lead the charge for women’s freestyle BMX this season. Beyond the podiums, the first Recon Tour stop delivered the full experience. Monster Energy athletes showed up to hype the crowd and support the next generation. Music, giveaways, and a crowd full of BMX fans and first-timers made it a true celebration of the sport. With the first stops wrapped and momentum building, all eyes are on the next stop of the Monster Energy Recon Tour. If Bryce and Saige’s performances are any indication, 2025 is going to be one wild ride.
Making memories and building skills, the STACYC revolution has introduced countless families to the thrill of two wheels. With every unboxing of an eDrive bike, young riders develop foundational skills that carry over into any riding discipline. Whether you’re chasing podiums or just the thrill of the ride, you won’t want to miss this high-voltage celebration of eDrive culture.

BMX racers and their families came out in droves to participate in Warnicke races, held at tracks all over the United States and Canada. All together, the tracks and riders helped raise $57,000 in Bob Warnicke Scholarships, which have now been awarded to deserving Collegiate BMXers. As you’re about to read, scholarships range from $500 to $3,000, and will be used to assist BMX students and their families with the costs of undergraduate college, trade school, and other educational avenues.
Since 2013, USA BMX/BMX Canada members have raised more than $704,000 in Scholarships that have been awarded.
PULL Magazine not only congratulates the following students on receiving these funds, but we want to give a huge thanks and highfives to each and every rider who participated in a Bob Warnicke Event. These are the fruits of your labor.
ABOUT THE USA BMX FOUNDATION:
The USA BMX Foundation has created an endowment for the Bob Warnicke Memorial Scholarship Fund. Each year money raised through the Warnicke Scholarship races and the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony are placed into the endowment. Taking the Factory division by storm, the Albe’s SYNDYT BOX team has become a dominant force at every stop on the USA
BMX National Circuit. From hungry young groms to riders on the verge of elite status, the unmistakable pink-and-blue jer-
seys are a staple at the front of the pack in nearly every class. Whether it’s Alexis Alden and Matthew Weerts pushing hard through the stacked 17-20 ranks, or Charlie Gay, Grayson Novak, and Yuna Turner keeping the throttle wide open in the younger divisions, the Albe’s crew continues to deliver standout performances weekend
after weekend. Their consistent presence atop the podium has propelled the squad to the top of the Factory Team Standings, racking up massive points at some of the season’s biggest races.
Behind the scenes, it’s team
manager Scott Angus—a personality as bold as the jerseys— who keeps the wheels turning. Known for making each race weekend just as memorable off the track as on it, Angus is the driving force behind the team’s unique blend of fierce competition and tight-knit community. Under his leadership, the Albe’s SYNDYT BOX program is more than a team—it’s a movement.

GREAT NORTHWEST NATIONALS
Words & Photos by: Justin Wahl
Back at the energy-filled, action-packed venue that ignites the Pacific Northwest’s National season, the 2025 Great NW Nationals roared to life with three electric days of racing. The atmosphere was buzzing with eager race legs at the gate and nervous parents in the stands, all anticipating the fierce battles ahead.
The action ramped up early in the 11–12 Girls Cruiser class, where Aven Beaty showcased her growing skill with a clean manual into the first turn and a huge all-in send over the booster double down the second straight. Beaty has been on a steady rise in recent years, but this weekend she brought a new kind of fire, going undefeated with triple wins on Friday and Saturday, and closing it out with a double on Sunday.
With the track built for speed and progression, riders wasted no time showing off their elevated game. In 12 Cruiser, Jhett Fishbaugh took control early, launching out of turn one with style and holding a smooth line through the third straight. He swept the class and followed it up with a thrilling battle in 12 Expert, where he chased down Karter Hart all the way to the line.
The Montana-born “Shark,” Addison Thompson, left fans both trackside and at home stunned as she dominated

the 15–16 Girls Expert class. Her explosive skill out of turn one helped her gap the field and maintain control throughout the weekend. Hot on her heels was her sister, Kate Thompson, who helped secure a family one-two finish on both Friday and Sunday.
From Montana to north of the border, Canadian standout, Cominick Gosselin-Bert, delivered an electric win in 14x on Saturday night. Lined up against seasoned podium regulars, he locked in his lead out of turn one with Cruz Gonzalez, Jayce Fishbaugh, and Nate “Dogg” Walker in hot pursuit. Stretching his advantage down the second straight, Gosselin-Berg held off Gonzalez’s late charge to seal the victory.
The 2025 Great NW Nationals kicked off the season with high energy, standout talent, and nonstop action. From Aven Beaty’s flawless triple wins to dominant performances by Fishbaugh, Thompson, and Gosselin-Berg, the weekend was packed with breakout moments. With fierce battles and rising stars across every class, the Nationals have set a thrilling tone for the season ahead.
STRETCHIN’: Some search for pedals, E-Pop searches for backside. Showing off his yoga skills, Ethan Popovich gets limber down the Oregon first straight.

SUPER B: Charging to make an Impact, Kyson Christen jumps through the second straight in 13x. BMX BUDS: Alison Godsey and Veta Cramer enjoy the racing and the friendship that comes with BMX Racing.

The 2025 USA BMX Pro Series lit up Metro BMX in Bakersfield, California, delivering three unforgettable days of bar-banging action, breakout performances, and legacy-defining wins. From the fast and technical layout, to the passionate SoCal crowd, this classic stop on the circuit reminded everyone why BMX is as much about heart as it is horsepower.
Day One brought high-speed thrills and statement rides, while Day Two cranked the intensity even higher with a light drizzle in the morning turning up the challenge for the world’s best. By the end of the weekend, four of the five Pro class winners had doubled up, and the future of BMX looked brighter than ever.
Jeff Upshaw came into the weekend with momentum and left with four straight series wins under his belt. On both days, the Vet Pro star launched out of the gate and controlled the pack with veteran precision. While Saturday saw him fend off Nic Long, Tyler Brown, and Emilio Falla, Sunday brought new drama behind him as a tangle in turn three let Corey Reid rocket into second. Upshaw, meanwhile, kept it clean and fast, making it clear that the #1 plate is his to lose.
Derin Merten showed she’s not just a top prospect—she’s a championship contender. On Day One, she made a decisive move past Alexis Alden to score her second win of the season. Day Two tested her resilience, as a crash earlier in the day could have rattled anyone. Instead, Merten came back stronger, grabbing the holeshot and holding off Addison Thompson, Kate Sifford, and Landon Burian. With back-to-back wins, Merten is setting the tone in the ABA Futures Women’s chase.
The ABA Futures Men’s class is quickly becoming the most unpredictable and entertaining division in BMX. On Saturday, Ryder Santos was untouchable, delivering a wire-to-wire win ahead of Matthew Weerts, Marshall Gehrke, and Chris Felker. But Sunday belonged to Ethan Popovich, a.k.a. “E-Pop,” who nailed the holeshot and never looked back. With four different winners across the four rounds of the series so far, this title chase is anyone’s game—and every lap matters.
Molly Simpson returned to the site of her first-ever Pro win back in 2022 and reminded everyone why she’s one of the fastest women in the world. Piloting her Daylight Cycles rig,
MEN PRO SNAPS: With fast laps throughout the day, Josh Jolly snapped out of his choosen gate one with power lined up down the gate.
BUILDING FANS: Off track interactions are key to building fans and the autograph session is the perfect opportunity.
NEW SPEED: Rayne Lankford, Josh Jolly, and Cam Bramer lead the pack over the first jump with Kam Larsen and Jeremy Smith testing their pack skill.
the Canadian powerhouse went wire-to-wire both days, dispatching a stacked field with authority. Saturday’s podium included Lauren Reynolds and Lexis Colby, while Sunday saw Olivia Armstrong use her small-hill skills to grab second and Reynolds muscled her way into third again. Simpson’s double-win solidifies her status as the early-season favorite—and the new Queen of Bakersfield. Every season has its breakout star, and Josh Jolly just staked his claim. After an eye-opening performance in Rock Hill, the Rookie Pro showed up in Norwalk ready to win. And win he did. On Saturday, Jolly shot down the first straight to earn the Answer BMX Holeshot and a commanding first victory. On Sunday, he repeated the feat, this time fending off a turn-one battle with local favorite Kam Larsen and a surging Jordan Callum. With two wins and a rapidly growing fan base, Jolly’s no longer just a name to watch, he’s a rider to beat.
Metro BMX once again proved why it’s a cornerstone of the USA BMX calendar. With its old-school flavor, tight corners, and technical flow, it challenged everyone from Olympic medalists to fresh amateurs. And with fans lining the fence line rain or shine, the energy was as electric as ever.
From Upshaw’s dominance to Jolly’s breakout, Simpson’s streak to Popovich’s emergence, the Golden State Nationals delivered exactly what BMX racing is all about: grit, glory, and greatness.
As the podium corral cleared and attention turned to the amateur classes, the grit, glory, and greatness of BMX racing fueled fast laps and fierce battles.
In 10 Expert Girls, the three G’s were on full display in a thrilling three-way fight for the front.
JOLLY ON TOP:
On top of his second podium in Bakersfield, the young Aussie gained a lot of fans with a pair of wins on the USA BMX circuit.
Remy Sessa, Isabella Smith, and Mya Reyna went bar-to-bar-to-bar through out the weekend. Sessa owned the top step on both Friday and Saturday, but Sunday delivered a shake-up. A first-straight bump knocked Sessa out of contention, opening the door for Reyna to power through and take the win.
More intense racing followed just a few motos later in the 13 Expert Girls class. Heavy hitters Chase Burian, Logan Lee, and Sequoia Gomolicke lined up as favorites, but it was Bu rian who seized control with light ning-fast first straights. She held her lead wire-to-wire, fending off late charges to claim the top spots on the weekend.
From the ladies to the young men, Sunday’s 13 Expert main was all about power and precision. Factory BABS Wilson’s Jose Garcia exploded out of the gate and led down the first straight, but it was Keegan Skinner who stole the show. Executing a smooth, calculated outside line on the split third straight, Skinner carved through turn three to take the lead and never looked back.
SAWYER’S LADIES: The Ssquared and Answer BMX family joined forces in 17-20 Women Cruiser with Makinzie Palmer and Danica Anderson.

As spring turns to summer, the USA BMX National Series stormed into the Peach State for one of the most anticipated events of the season: the 2025 Dixieland Nationals. Held at the legendary Cobb County BMX in Powder Springs, Georgia, this year’s installment delivered high-speed action, home-track heroics, and major points implications for riders chasing national glory.
The Dixieland Nationals have always stood out, not just for their history, but for their atmosphere. With the smell of burgers in the air, a packed fence line crowd, and southern hospitality on full display, the energy at Cobb County BMX was electric from the first gate drop on Friday to the final stretch across the line on Sunday.
Riders from across the country descended on the Southeast, with heavy hitters from every corner looking to leave their mark. The red Georgia clay track, fast straights, and tight third turn made for exciting mains and split-second decision-making in every class.
SSQUARED SPEED:16x’s Tyler Helsel showed his speed around Cobb County BMX with a packed class of riders in house for the weekend.
While the Pro Am battles brought a mix of racers to the track for money, the amateur ranks brought the action for prestige and points. Ten Expert’s own Jacob Colwell battled with the Georgia boy, Mason Southwell, for an electrifying Friday main event. Carving around turn
two on the back tire of Southwell, Colwell found the fast line down the third straight to claim the lead, leaving one turn left for his Friday win. Fighting through the low side elbow and lean, the Kamikaze kid charged to the line, forcing Southwell to wait until Saturday to claim his win on the weekend.
Another rider who stole the show was Mary Hollis Watson in 13 Expert Girls. Watson threw down commanding wins on both Friday and Saturday, showcasing sharp gate snaps and smooth corner work. Though a Sunday sweep slipped away, her double-win weekend has her surging in the standings heading toward the summer stretch.
One of the weekend’s biggest moments came during the 17-20 Expert main on Sunday. Drake Velador, a heavy favorite and Saturday’s main event winner, suffered a nasty crash in

the second straight after clipping the step-up lip. As medics rushed in and the crowd held its breath, the rest of the field had to refocus quickly.
That’s when Andrew Herrera, racing on his home track, saw his opportunity. With the crowd behind him and adrenaline pumping, Herrera rode a flawless final lap, holding off a late charge to take the win in dramatic fashion. The local crowd erupted as Herrera celebrated his win, but quickly turned back to the second straight to check on his competitor, still down on the track.
quickly
Velador, thankfully, walked off under his own power, but the moment was a powerful reminder of how fast things can change in BMX racing.
As the tour packed up and headed to the next stop, one thing was clear: Dixieland delivered. With rising stars, emotional wins, and fierce competition,
this Georgia classic once again proved it’s a mustwatch stop on the national

LEGACY NATIONALS
USA CYCLING ELITE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
Words & Photos by: Justin Wahl
Bikes rolled up to the gate, eyes followed the towering metal pillars, and anticipation surged through the air as the 2025 USA BMX Legacy Nationals roared to life at the Hardesty National BMX Stadium. While the weekend featured Pro-level fireworks with the USA Cycling National Championships, the majority of the weekend belonged entirely to the amateurs who wasted no time proving why this event is called the Legacy Nationals. Hundreds of main events stormed through the stadium’s long, technical layout, putting rising stars front and center. From seasoned veterans to fresh faces, Friday’s amateur showcase gave six standout classes the full Pro experience, complete with post-race interviews, camera flashes, and a crowd ready to cheer on the next generation of champions.
The 51–55 Women’s Cruiser class kicked off the spotlight segments with a thrilling total points battle. Tracy O’Brien put on a clinic in consistency, claiming the Day One win with a gritty 3-2-1 finish that edged out Kenna Barkley in a tiebreaker. O’Brien’s efforts were rewarded with an unforgettable moment: a one-on-one interview with 2016 Olympic Gold Medalist Connor Fields, an experience that summed up the spirit of this iconic weekend.
In the 9 Cruiser class, Minnesota’s Reid Vanderheyden powered out of the gate and into the lead with an authority beyond his years. His dominance never wavered, and his wire-to-wire win was capped with a beaming trip to the podium and his first interview under the stadium lights.
But the most touching storyline may have come from the 11 Novice class. Samuel Smith, competing in his first-ever USA BMX national, raced with poise and purpose, edging out Remington Bozone in a nail-biting main event. With his first trophy in hand and a massive grin on his face, Smith stepped into the limelight for a post-race interview he and his family will never forget. The 15 Intermediate class delivered one of the tightest contests of the day. Owen Nickum didn’t win every lap, but his calculated 1-2-3 score was enough to seal the overall win.

and their future
His consistent riding and racecraft under pressure made him a deserving champ in a class known for unpredictability. When the action turned Expert, the intensity followed. In 15-16 Expert Girls, Preslie Gould left no doubt. The reigning National No.1 Amateur Girl sliced through the track with speed and style, taking the win and extending her dominance on the national circuit. Her performance wasn’t just another win, it was a statement.
The 13 Expert class was small in number, but heavy on talent. Crosby Backer riding his custom W3 plate, aboard a J&R-built Speedco, faced off against Ssquared standout, Keegan Skinner, in one of the most tactical mains of the day. Backer’s flawless front-run proved his place among the sport’s elite, earning him another step toward national points glory.

Under the shade of Hardesty BMX’s roof and surrounded by a chorus of loud claps and cheers, the Hardesty National BMX Stadium transformed into a proving ground for America’s fastest riders. The 2025 USA Cycling BMX Elite National Championships brought together the nation’s top-tier talent, and the stage was set for unforgettable performances.
While the Elite classes headlined the day, the undercard battles were nothing short of spectacular. Junior and Under-23 riders rose to the occasion, proving that the pipeline of American BMX is as strong as ever.
The Junior Men’s final delivered one of the day’s most electric moments. Evan Esposito, in his first year in the Junior ranks, showed race craft beyond his experience. Coming into turn two, Esposito found the time to strike and move past defending champion Sean Day—an overtake that erupted the crowd along the fence line. That same momentum carried his friend and competitor, Gaige Gomolicke, into the silver position.
It was a changing-of-the-guard moment that signaled a new era in Junior racing, led by riders who clearly aren’t waiting for permission to take over.
In the Junior Women’s class, the storyline was all about Derin Merten. A product of Black Mountain BMX’s grassroots suc cess, Merten has been on a tear through the national circuit. Her duel with Las Ve gas’ Savanna Stokes down the front straight was fierce—but brief. Once Merten found her rhythm, she never wavered, flying through the track to capture her first National Title in commanding fashion.
If anyone stole the show with pure racecraft, it was Ethan Popovich. Though not known for explosive gate starts, Popovich displayed unmatched finesse in the Under-23 Men’s main event. After early laps were led by PJ O’Brien, Popovich stayed tucked in the pack, waiting for the right time.
That moment came in the third straight, where Popovich’s outside line catapulted him from third to first— wowing the crowd and locking in his third National Title, and his first in the Under-23 category. A moment that has been in its creation for nearly a decade shows its hand to claim vic

tory.
The Under-23 Women’s field battled it out alongside the Elite Women in a combined main event. The race within the race was a thrilling back-and-forth between Keiley Shea and Ava Corley, with Corley edging out the win to collect her second Under-23 sleeve.
But up front, all eyes were on Payton Ridenour. The Pennsylvania native, racing at what’s essentially her second home track, was untouchable. Wearing #15, Ridenour dominated the Elite Women’s final from the first straight, adding her first USA Cycling National Championship to a growing list of accolades. As she stood atop the podium in her newly earned American sleeve, it was clear: a champion has emerged in Women’s BMX.
Anticipation buzzed through the stadium as the Elite Men loaded into the gate. With names like Corben Sharrah, Drew Polk, and Zach Van Kammen on the start list, the title was anyone’s for the taking.
But it was Cam Wood—USA BMX’s reigning National No.1 Pro—who came in with the momentum and left with the glory. Launching clean off the gate and landing perfectly off the first jump, Wood claimed the early lead and never looked back. His clean, powerful laps through the technical Hardesty layout were a study in precision.
As he crossed the finish line—chest to bars in his title winning celebration— Cam Wood officially added “National Champion” to his résumé. It was a longawaited victory that solidified his place among BMX’s elite and gives him a confidence boost heading into the heart of the USA BMX Pro Series.
The 2025 USA Cycling Elite National Championships were more than a medal hunt. They were a reminder of BMX’s heartbeat in the U.S.—a blend of grit, speed, and grassroots legacy. From firstyear Juniors to established Elites, every rider who lined up brought something to the track.
As the sun peeked into Hardesty National BMX Stadium, the message was clear: American BMX is thriving, and its future is flying.

The gates dropped and history was written at the 2025 USA BMX Music City Nationals, a marquee stop on the Pro Series that drew international stars, future champions, and die-hard fans to the iconic Nashville drag strip. Held over Memorial Day weekend, the event lived up to its legend as the most anticipated regular-season race of the year. With high stakes and even higher speeds, the fifth and sixth stops of the USA BMX Pro Series showcased what makes this sport electric.
Friday marked the kickoff of both the BMX Family’s holiday weekend and the chase for the Gold Records. As the stands filled with spectators and the field stacked with talent, it was clear that Music City was set to deliver.
Kicking off the pro side of the weekend Jeff Upshaw reminded the field why he’s on top of the points lead and in the title watch. Powering his way to the top spot and earning his first Gold Record in Nashville, the Zeronine ride wasn’t done yet. With one arm holding his Friday winnings, Upshaw made sure to fill up the other arm going two for two down the dragstrip.
Seeing Upshaw claim his first Gold Records of the weekend sparked Canada’s Molly Simpson to continue her fast laps filling her arms with new items for the trophy case and a pair of wins to add to her points lead in Women Pro.
While some, during the weekend, got their first taste of drag strip pressure, Joris Daudet reminded everyone that he owns Music City. With poise and power, the Frenchman claimed his ninth win on this historic track, reinforcing his dominance and reigniting the “French Connection” in front of the American crowd. But then came Saturdays racing, arguably one of the best Men Pro Mains in recent memory.
Cam Wood came out swinging, showing strength and strategy by edging Joris Daudet off the hill and diving under the
Aussie leader in turn one. But as the fans rose to cheer what looked like a return to the top step for Wood, a new name rocketed into view. Mateo Carmona of Colombia seized his moment, carving a perfect arc around turn one and launching down the second straight into the lead. Holding off every charge and every line, Carmona crossed the line victorious, earning his first-ever USA BMX Pro win and etch ing his name into the Nashville record books.
With the top Pro classes electrifying the crowd the ABA Futures classes took the stage and looked to transfer their amateur experience into the Futures classes. With first straight control a key to winning around Music City BMX, Landon Burian used her 30’ speed and spin to charge into the lead and claim both Friday and Saturday top spots, of ficially putting her into points chase for the ABA Futures Women class.
On the Men’s side of the Futures racing, the Albe’s boys raced for the sweep. Charging out of turn one during Friday’s main event, Matthew Weerts, Lucas Zhou, and Evan Esposito put their pink and blue kits onto the podium for their Day One.
Day Two of the Men’s ABA Futures ranks had speed throughout the day, but down the drag strip for the main event, four racers fought for the lead into turn one. Day One winner, Matthew Weerts, Full Tilt duo Tommy Bruney and Jonnie Vance, and out on the outside, Ethan E-POP

THE REASON: It’s not the big checks or the Gold Record...
Popovich split the rack and hunted for the holeshot. With a head full of steam, the track speed specialist, Ethan Popovich, took the lead and stretched out his win, pulling away from the pack with each and every backside.
With legends reaffirming their legacy and rising stars carving out their own, the 2025 Music City Nationals once again proved why Nashville is one of the crown jewels of BMX racing. Between Gold Records, breakout performances, and a main event that fans will talk about for years, this was more than a race, it was a celebration of speed.
As the gates close on Nashville, the series heads to its next stop, but the echoes of Music City will carry on all season long.
THE PASS: Guadalupe Palacios was on the back tire of Landon Burina all weekend, and on Sunday, the streak ended down the third straight where Palacios took the win in 15-16x Girls.

The 2025 Gem State Nationals delivered heart-pounding action, elite competition, and unforgettable main event moments as the Northwest’s top BMX racers converged on Idaho’s gem, Caldwell BMX. Three athletes stole the spotlight with spectacular style, earning wins that caught the fence line’s eyes.
Danica Appenzeller was a force of nature, accomplishing a clean sweep in the fast 14x Girls class. From the opening motos to the battle heavy mains, Appenzeller showed complete dominance, firing out of the gate, carving hard, and styling her way to the win. Appenzellar’s performance over the weekend wasn’t just a win—it was a statement that she’s becoming a top threat across the entire national scene.
Levi Folkrod made the weekend about him with a win in the 14 & Over Pro/Am and the growing class 21–25x. Lined up against some of the fastest racers on Day One, Folkrod laid down a Pro/ Am hot lap that transferred right into his next battle, 21-25. Going bar to bar with Zaine Stenson down the first straight, Levi and the front of the pack avoided some carnage and kept the speed ramped up to the finish line.
In the 17–20 Women’s class, Kira Boustead

and Kate Sifford got straight into the battles. Flying down the first straight, the two settled the score in turn one. Sifford kicked off their battle with a win on Friday, but Boustead was the one who ended the weekend on top with two wins in the class and the fastest lap of the weekend.
The 2025 Gem State Nationals highlighted the explosion of talent across the amateur BMX ranks, with sweeping performances and standout duels providing edgeof-your-seat action. From the little groms just beginning, to the BMX lifers who will never stop, the weekend had battles for everyone.
The Gem State Nationals delivered thrilling highlights and cemented legacies for these three standouts. But there were plenty of highlights to keep us coming back to Caldwell.

The 2025 USA BMX Spring Nationals kicked off with a bang under the blazing New Mexico sun, igniting a weekend of elite-level racing at the iconic Duke City BMX. With a revamped track, packed bleachers, and high expectations, the Albuquerque stop proved why they should be considered one of the top tracks across the circuit.
The Women Pro racing launched the weekend with high-intensity Pro Series showdowns. In Women Pro, Daleny Vaughn wasted no time making a statement. With explosive power out of the gate and tight control through the corners, Vaughn dominated the Women Pro main events, reminding everyone of her speed. Hot on her back wheel, Lauren Reynolds kept Vaughn honest throughout the race days. While a first-turn crash in Friday’s main event added some soreness to her race weekend, the podium queen powered through to second place to round off her Spring Nationals weekend.
As Daleny Vaughn wrapped up her post-win interview, Cam Wood was next up to bring his calculated precision and raw speed to the Albuquerque crowd. After claiming the win in a tight semi, Wood put his dirt turn experience on display through the first turn and never looked back. The difference in the common asphalt turn to dirt turn lines may have deterred some, but one racer went for the big move, and it paid off during Friday’s main event. Drew Polk saw the move and capitalized. Going fifth to second in one foul swoop, the yellow Factory SYNDYT LSG racer claimed his first podium of the year, splitting the leaders and crossing the line: Wood, Polk, Kennedy. Wood matched his Friday win with another holeshot, claiming his second and third wins of the season to send a clear message: the reigning champ is hungry for more, and a back-to-back National Title could be in reach.
In Vet Pro, Friday belonged to Alan Hudson, who used his fist snap down the first straight and a clean second to claim his first win of the season. A long time coming, cheers filled the stands, and Hot Pants was officially on the board in 2025. But Saturday shifted the spotlight. Nic Long, aka The Captain, fired up the crowd with a vintage ride, taking

his first Vet Pro win. After battling through stacked motos, Long reminded fans why he remains one of the sport’s most electric racers, celebrating his win with a shot of tequila and a day of watching the races to come.
Meanwhile, the ABA Futures class was pure adrenaline. The next generation brought the noise with two of the brightest stars in the mix: Derin Merten and Ethan Popovich. Both riders went undefeated through the first two days, showing poise well beyond their years. Popovich’s snap out of the gate and Merten’s composure in the chaos of turn one had fans on their feet and made it clear—USA BMX’s future is burning bright.
With two days of bar-to-bar battles in the books, Sunday handed the spotlight to the Amateurs, closing out a Spring Nationals weekend filled with momentum-shifting wins, breakout performances, and championship implications.
For the Pros, it’s back to the grind— training, travel, and tuning up for the next national. But for fans, the Spring Nationals sparked debate, predictions, and fandom for the top of the sport.

Written by Erma Miller and Alice Bixler,
There’s no truer story than the one that unfolds on a BMX track. In a way unlike any other sport, BMX creates a space where toddlers, siblings, parents, and even grandparents can all play a part—each at their own pace, but always together. It’s a sport that not only fuels competition but also keeps families close, offering toddlers a path to grow into adolescents, athletes, and young adults under the same set of starting lights.
This is the story of Gavin and Devin—two boys who started their BMX journeys at just three years old, brought together by the friendship of their grandmothers. These two women met decades earlier, when their own sons were just seven and racing bikes of their own. As the boys grew up and became fathers, their mothers remained involved, continuing to volunteer at the track they’d all come to love.
The story truly began in 2010—the year the Strider bike was introduced to the USA BMX national
Two Grandmothers Who’ve Lived and Breathed BMX for 50 Years
program. Like BMX itself, Strider racing quickly became one of the fastest-growing avenues in youth sports, giving toddlers their first taste of competition and community on two wheels.
By 2011, Strider bikes were officially recognized in the BMX rulebook as a competition class. Soon, Strider races were held at every National and quickly became crowd favorites at local tracks. As toddlers mastered their balance and upgraded to pedal bikes, the 5 & Under Novice class began to overflow—so much so that USA BMX eventually split it into 4 & Under and 5-Year-Old categories to accommodate the growing field.
That same year, Strider Internation-
al hosted its first-ever Strider World Championship in Sarasota, Florida. Riders from Europe, Asia, and Australia traveled to compete, and among the sea of tiny helmets and determined faces were Gavin and Devin, proudly representing their home track.
Also in 2011, Florida’s SSA (State Series Association)—always a pioneer in growing the sport—decided that Strider riders, like their older counterparts, deserved end-ofyear awards. After all, these young racers had traveled to every state qualifier and earned their place. At the annual ceremony, a long row of oversized trophies awaited them, each accompanied by a Florida State number plate and a cuddly stuffed animal.
Gavin and Devin were among more than 40 toddlers called to the stage that day, receiving their first-ever BMX trophies. Adding to the moment, older teenage and Pro riders presented the awards—welcoming the youngest members of the BMX

family into the sport with pride and encouragement.
Time, as it tends to do, raced by. Gavin and Devin graduated from Striders to pedal bikes and began climbing the ranks. Devin joined the Kid Dynamite Team, traveling the national circuit and representing Florida across the country. Eventually, life pulled both boys in different directions—school took priority, interests shifted—but BMX was never far behind.
As teenagers, they returned to the track—not as racers, but as volunteers. Devin became a Saturday regular, working the concession stand at Sarasota BMX. Gavin, often seen helping run the gate or assisting in concessions when not working his job at Target, even played the role of Easter Bunny during holiday events.
And then came 2025—their senior year, and the full-circle moment no
one could have scripted better.
Both Gavin and Devin applied for and were awarded the prestigious Alice Bixler BMX Scholarship at the 2025 Florida State Championship Year-End Awards Ceremony—the very same stage where they once stood clutching Strider trophies.
Devin graduated with honors from Foundations Christian Montessori Academy, earning the distinction of Salutatorian and delivering the graduation speech. He plans to attend Manatee Technical College to pursue a career in Electrical Engineering, with dreams of one day owning his own business.
Gavin, who got his first Strider in 2010 and raced until age 10, faced a life-changing hardship when his father fell ill with cancer. He stayed by his dad’s side until his passing in 2017, choosing then to focus fully on academics. That dedication paid off: Gavin graduated with
honors from Sarasota High School, just as his dad had in 1988 and his grandmother before him in 1967. With a 4.6 GPA and more than 30 college credits earned through the AICE program, Gavin will enter the University of Florida—his parents’ alma mater—to pursue a degree in Business Administration.
This story is more than just a BMX journey. It’s a story of roots, resilience, and the deep connections this sport fosters—from Strider starts to scholarship finishes. It’s proof that the BMX track isn’t just a place for racing bikes—it’s where lifetime friendships are made, family legacies are built, and dreams take flight.
Devin and Gavin reunite at the 2025 Florida State Championships to celebrate their grandmothers and accept their Alice Bixler Scholarships.
BEYOND THE BERM
RICHFIELD PARK BMX RICHFIELD PARK BMX
Founded in 1986, Richfield Park BMX has proudly called Genessee County, Michigan home for nearly four decades. Located just outside the historic city of Flint, the track features a unique layout designed with spectators in mind, offering 360-degree views, so families and fans never miss a moment of the action. And if you want the ultimate view? Head up to the picnic tables atop of turn two, a perfect spot to cheer on your rider with a sandwich in hand.
Richfield Park BMX isn’t just a track-it’s an experience. It’s home to some one-of-a-kind events that you won’t see anywhere else. The “Top Grom”: an open-style race where riders aged 12 and under can compete for cash prizes; “The Rumble”: a fall tradition at the track that features a vintage bike show, antique car show, 13 Only Money Open, Pro-Am Money Open, and prizes galore; vs, “Grass Drag Spectacular”: a local single-point race that takes older riders back to their roots on a flat, grass track and a rope start; and the “Iron Belle Holeshot Shoot Out”: a highly competitive first straight race to win bragging rights and cash prizes!
Behind the scenes is a team of passionate volunteers known as the Zoo Crew. At the helm is Track Operator Austin Kelly, who took over in 2021 with a clear mission: elevate the rider experience and make Richfield Park BMX stand out. Under his leadership,
the track has seen major upgrades, including a full rebuild, the installation of an electric barrel gate and timing system, an expanded merchandise lineup, and what many consider one of the best concession stands in the state. Austin takes great pride in maintaining the track to the highest standards, dedicating countless hours each week to keeping it in top shape. Working alongside Austin are Paul Remington, President and Announcer Extraordinaire; Dennis “Yogi” Ybarra, former Track Operator, and current Treasurer; Jeremy Crowe, Assistant Track Operator; Kurt Bliss, Vice President; Robyn Bliss, Secretary; Krystal White, Registration Manager; Stephenie Thibo, Concession Manager; Chris White and Holly Grote, Track Coaches; and several highly dedicated Trustees.
Over the years, Richfield Park BMX has welcomed thousands of riders and hosted major events,
including the 2012 Strider BMX Great Lakes National and numerous Gold Cup Qualifiers. The track proudly kicks off the Michigan State Series each year, bringing top-tier racing to the East Central region of the state.
With its 40th anniversary approaching in 2026, the Zoo Crew is already planning a celebration to remember— including commemorative jerseys, t-shirts, and a special event to honor the racers, volunteers, and families who’ve shaped the track’s legacy.
Community connections are at the heart of everything Richfield Park BMX does. The track works hard to support local businesses and bring people together. One favorite tradition, after every race, riders can take their ribbon or trophy across the street to The Corner Cone for a free ice cream cone.
None of this would be possible without the continued support of the Genesee County Parks and Recreation Commission, whose partnership helps keep Richfield Park BMX thriving year after year.
Whether you're a long-time racer or just discovering the sport, Richfield Park BMX offers a welcoming environment, a strong sense of community, and unforgettable racing experiences.

The State Final for FL has already been run, here are reminders for the rest of the US and Canada!
• Novice and Intermediate riders are combined for the state plate. Female Novice and Inter riders will find their points under State/Provincial…Choose State/ Province…Choose Age Group…Boys Inter/Novice.
• Remember…State/Provincial points will show the age the rider will be on the date of their respective State/ Provincial final.
• With the new Open Border state series, single point races are not required, however, they are weighted and can drastically change your point total. REMEMBER... for your single point races to be counted as bonus points in the state series, they need to be done in the state in which you are competing in for a state plate. The deadline for single point races is August 1st.
• If you move up in proficiency before your state final, your qualifiers will still count and your points will remain the same. Riders will race the age and proficiency they are on the date of the state final.

If you didn’t know about Mateo’s speed before his win in Nashville, you’ve missed out on one heck of a racer. Mateo Carmona Garcia, the 24 year old racer from Medellin, Colombia, has been making waves for almost a decade. Gaining weight behind his name in 2021, after
winning the Junior Pan American games, Carmona, made his way to the top of the sport with a spot on Colombian Olympic Team. With a USA BMX win in his trophy case and a long career ahead of him you won’t want to miss any race with Mateo in the gate.
