Creative Rebels LIAM LANFORD
Seventeen-year-old, singer, song writing, sensation finally talks to BEAUTY & THE BEAT!
reative Rebels, is an English, indie, rock band formed in 2006 in London by Megan O’donnell and Liam Langford. New member, Priya Palak joined the band in February 2007. They are currently signed to Virgin Records. The band often draws comparisons to the Rolling Stones, largely due to the vocal similarities between Liam Langford and The Rollings Stones lead singer Mick Jagger. They recently remixed on the
single ‘I Blame Coco’ with Calvin Harris as heard in the new Canny Thought Presents double-disc mix CD and cult of the romance reworking ‘Phantoms’, the UK four-piece Elliot Sumner have been shoved in the blog punk scene despite making mostly indie, rock band music. Hailing from London, the swoon-worthy vocals paired with trendy Tavi New York are sure to be tugging the heartstrings of indie population across the land.

I BLAME LIAM
Words like ‘indie’, ‘rock’, ‘pop’, and ‘filthy’ have been thrown around about your music. How would you want to describe your sound?
Liam Langford: I suppose we are indie, we do use lots of synths, there is a pop element to our sound and when we play live there’s a lot of heavy filthy bass... Those words work for me.
Your lyrics tend to be quite romantic or loveorientated. Have you had a lot of love trouble?
Liam Langford: Haha... Afraid not although I can see why people think that after our recent single ‘Bohermian Love’. I wrote the song a long time ago and I think I was listening to a lot of Led Zeppelin at the time.
Beauty and The Beat featured you a couple of years back... What have the Creative Rebels been up to since then?
Liam Langford: Well, we’ve toured a bit and recorded an album - twice. A new video is in the works.
What’s the new record this month all about?
Liam Langford: Our full length is due out in January.
What is your album called? Tell us about that?
Liam Langford: It’s called ‘Bohemian Love’. In our case it’s a metaphor for our song writing, and the title track of the album. Plus it’s just a magic word.
You did a mutual-cover with Telepathe... what crazy dream collaboration could you imagine? An Aphex Twin reconstruction of ‘Mirror Rim’? A UK Funky take on ‘Newlyweds’? Liam Langford: Covering Telepathe was great because we’ve know those guys for so long. We also covered ‘I Blame Coco’ for an Elliot Sumner tribute (a series of singles). A dream collaboration? Hmm, something unexpected say, Bohemian love.
If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing? Liam Langford: We are all involved in various pursuits at the moment: visual art, teaching, film making, dance, antiquing, textiles, travel etc..
What lies ahead? Liam Langford: New songs. Supporting the album by tour, seeing more of the world hopefully!
