Increase The Value Of Your Home Making your home more attractive to prospective buyers can be easier and less expensive than many realize—if you heed these eight suggestions from the real estate listings experts at Trulia: 1. Look to your landscaping. Just a few hundred dollars on grass seed or replacement sod, new flowers, bushes or trees, a weekend and a little effort can improve a house’s curb appeal.

2. Help your home clean up nicely. Give the exterior a thorough scrubdown, including screens, windows and gutters. Pressure wash the walks and driveway. Inside, steam clean the carpets, wash or wax laminate, hardwood or linoleum, and clean the grout on tile walls and floors.

4. Change the caulk around the plumbing fixtures.

Whether your parents, your adult children or both are moving in with you, these may make the living easier on everyone: • Go big or go small: Put in a kitchenette with a microwave, fridge and sink near an easily accessible bedroom or go for a large gourmet kitchen with a kitchen island if there will be more people eating at different times of the day.

- Allow for wide aisles so many people—including those with a walker or a rolling baby chair—can use the room without getting in each other’s way.

- Consider a second dishwasher, stove or refrigerator.

• The height of convenience: Vary counter thickness and height and go for multilevel divided sinks to make lifting pots and pans easier.

- Lower the cooking surfaces, too, so seeing inside pots can be simpler.

Moving With A Pet? Tips to make the transition easier for four-legged family members While pets add an element to any move, it doesn’t have to be a stressful one, for you or your pet. Penske Truck Rental offers some pet-friendly moving tips.

ID your animals Even the most well-behaved pet can get lost and confused during a move. Microchip your cat or dog before you move. While animal shelters and veterinarians are most often equipped to detect and read microchips, the average Good Samaritan is not. Notify animal shelters and veterinarian offices in your former hometown and in the area where your pet got lost.

7 Steps for Simplifying

Your Next Paint Project If you’re considering a household painting project, now’s the perfect time. The summer’s hottest days are in the past and winter’s frigid temperatures aren’t even on your radar. Whether you plan to paint your kitchen, a hallway, outdoor siding or a refurbished piece of furniture, keep in mind a few helpful tips from the experts at Olympic(R) Paint to make your project flow a little bit easier.

Patch holes and imperfections. For better or worse, painting a room allows you to examine all of the walls and find any imperfections in need of repairs. In most cases, these dents can be repaired with a caulk or a putty knife and some spackle or joint compound. Whatever repairs are in order, they should be done a few days before your painting project begins, to ensure that everything is completely dry when it comes time to paint.

Prepare the area before you paint. Proper preparation is key to ensure less frustration later on. First, remove draperies, pictures, switch and outlet cover plates from walls.

Second, wipe off any dirt or dust from walls and baseboards with a damp cloth. If the area is highly contaminated, use a mild detergent.

Lastly, tape off any woodwork, windows and trim. Using a strong, long-lasting painter’s tape can ensure your beautiful baseboards and your woodwork are protected, ultimately making them stand out.

Find the right finish for the job. Consider the amount of dirt and activity your walls will be exposed to before choosing your paint sheen.

Flat or eggshell sheens should be used in lowtraffic areas, because they hold dirt and are more difficult to clean. Semi-gloss and gloss finishes are best suited for high-traffic or active areas, such as a child’s bedroom, because they can be easily washed without losing their luster.
