Front loading washers are among the most damage-prone items in a move, warns Rob Ursino, manager of Movers Specialty Service. “They’re a new phenomenon in the last 10 or 15 years. They have a spinning drum that has to be suspended properly during a move.” A broken washer can cause a significant amount of water damage and the tricky part is, you may not realize there is an issue until it’s too late. Before moving a front-loading washer, Ursino recommends the purchase of a manufacturer’s shipping kit which locks the washer’s drum in place and minimizes transit damage. Always refer to the manufacturer guide before moving major items - and check with your insurance company to make sure you adequately covered for moving day. As the saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

The owner has the right to cure the default right up to the very last minute before the sale. The main cause is delinquent payments on a mortgage. The mortgage company or second and even third mortgage holders contact the owner, then the trustee (usually an attorney) to begin the process. If it is VA guaranteed or FHA insured, many times they offer assistance or alternatives. Then the appraisal is ordered to determine fair market value.

Child Identity Commandeer Theft Growing

Based on the research, children are 35 times more likely to have their identity stolen than adults. 15% of victims were five years old and younger, an increase of 105% over last year’s findings by All Clear ID. Child identity theft is when a minor’s personal information, i.e., name, date of birth or Social Security number, is used to fraudulently gain credit or other benefits. And since creditors don’t verify appplicant’s age, theft of a child’s identity could go undetected for years. When the child ages and attempts to use his or her SS number for the first time to get a loan or job, incorrect information and negative credit can cause serious issues. Case in point? 1.5 million in fraud against a 19 year old girl whose SS number had been used fraudulently since she was nine years old.
