Meet Antoine and Ugo Lecorché, founders of La Môme

W ords : B i B i C ooper

You may have noticed a sense of joie de vivre hanging in the air lately. That could be thanks to La Môme London, which opened at The Berkeley at the start of this year. The legendary Cannes restaurant – renowned for its fun and lively atmosphere and delicious Mediterranean food – is a staple on the French Riviera. We sat down with its founders (and twin brothers) Ugo and Antoine Lecorché to find out more.

Hi - could you tell our readers a bit about yourselves? We are originally from Lyon, which we left at the age of 24 to do a season in the south of France. We ended up never leaving. After joining prestigious establishments in Cannes, where we worked for about 10 years, we opened our first restaurant in 2015.

Was there an experience or a specific moment that made you realise a career in hospitality was something you wanted to pursue?

There was no particular event. This profession is challenging and requires many sacrifices, but it is incredibly rewarding in terms of human connection. As we grew, we transitioned from working in bars to the restaurant industry, which has now become our true passion. The opportunity that one of our former employers gave us, to become managers of prestigious establishments, probably played a significant role in our decision to pursue a long-term career in this field.

What is it like working during the summer seasons in Cannes?

The summer seasons are very intense and long. They require a great deal of endurance. Winter is used to prepare for the upcoming seasons, though business is good all year round. Our main focus is, of course, on our clients and their wellbeing during the summer. Every day, we handle a very high number of covers, but it is essential to pay careful attention to each individual guest. Our clients trust us with special family moments and celebrations, making our responsibility towards each of them significant. The volume of guests must never make us lose sight of our core values: attention to

detail and a genuine kindness towards every one of our visitors.

Why Belgravia for La Môme London?

Belgravia is elegant, relaxed and sophisticated — exactly the qualities we embrace and stand for at La Môme.

What are your aims with La Môme London?

Our goal is to bring consistency and precision to the overall experience. The worst feeling is to feel let down — we need to give our guests exactly what they came for: impeccable, personalised and thoughtful service, with meticulous attention to detail. And, of course, a refined cuisine made from top-quality products, perfectly executed.

Food, service and hospitality must meet international standards. All these elements need to be flawlessly delivered. There’s no magic in that — the magic will come from the elegant, relaxed and almost carefree atmosphere we create. Continued overleaf...

The guests don’t need to know why their experience was so enjoyable — it’s the entire performance, perfectly executed, that makes it memorable.

What can guests expect from the menu and vibes?

Guests can expect Mediterranean-inspired cuisine that highlights exceptional-quality ingredients. The menu offers simple but very well-executed gastronomy, focused on consistency and excellence. A selection of large meat or fish dishes to share further enhances the culinary experience. The lunch menu is slightly adapted, featuring fresh suggestions every day to bring variety and delight.

As for the ambience, the restaurant positions itself as a venue with atmosphere: elegant and relaxed, lively and vibrant but not festive. A DJ or live singer provides entertainment during dinner, while ensuring a setting where guests can comfortably enjoy conversations throughout the evening.

Were there any nerves making your UK debut?

Of course there were some apprehensions, and that’s normal. We are changing environments and stepping out of our comfort zone — but that’s also exciting. We rely on simple processes that are executed perfectly: a warm welcome and service that meet international standards, as well as consistently high-quality food. After that, it’s just a matter of hard work; there’s no secret. Our job is to listen to our customers, and that rule is universal. Whether on the French Riviera or in London, it’s the same principle.

Do Belgravia and Cannes have anything in common?

Both destinations are synonymous with elegance and refinement, attracting an international clientele while preserving their traditions. These are places with a unique charm and a distinctive atmosphere.

What’s in the future for both of you?

The short- and medium-term future is to establish a strong presence in London. After that, we will assess the development opportunities that may arise. We don’t have a fixed plan in place, but we know how to be very reactive when a great opportunity presents itself.

David O’Connor, Joe Mercer Nairne and chef Gary Foulkes tell us about new restaurant Cornus

W ords : B i B i C ooper

Located on the rooftop of Grosvenor’s Ice Factory at Eccleston Yards – a repurposed warehouse built in 1830 for Shingleton’s Ice Company – is a restaurant that aims to redefine the dining experience. Opened in August last year, Cornus is the brainchild of founders David O’Connor and Joe Mercer Nairne - the duo behind acclaimed Chelsea restaurant Medlar. Having joined from the Michelin-starred Angler, chef Gary Foulkes leads the kitchen, offering a regularly changing menu that showcases British and European seasonal produce through precise and vibrant cookery. We sat down with the trio to learn more about them and their journey to creating Cornus.

How did it all begin?

Joe: David and I met working at Chez Bruce many years ago. David was the manager when I turned up to work as a CDP [chef de partie] in the kitchen. Over the next few years we became friends and began talking about doing a restaurant together. In 2011 that became a reality with the launch of Medlar.

When and how did the concept of Cornus come about?

Joe: We’d tried over the years to do a second project together, but something or other always got in the way - whether it was other operators with deeper pockets winning sites or major issues such as Covid. By 2023 we were ready to give it another go, and started working on bringing Cornus to London.

David: We have always wanted to expand the business, for various reasons, we couldn’t get it over the line. This time it felt right, and we secured a fabulous location and the availability of a high quality and experienced chef Gary Foulkes.

Where did the name Cornus come from?

Joe: We were looking for a name that linked subtly to Medlar. My wife, a florist and keen gardener, suggested it as a possibility. It kept a botanical theme going, which we could gently incorporate into artwork and design, as we did at Medlar.

What’s the inspiration behind the menu?

Gary: Our cuisine is ingredient-led and guided by seasonality. We carefully source the best ingredients we can get our hands on, treat them with respect, pair them with things that naturally work together on a flavour level and most importantly, aim to cook them properly.

Favourite dish on the menu?

Gary: Currently, the Pyrenean lamb. We use everything from the lamb: the bones for stocks, with the trim we make the sauce and from any leftover meat and offal we make a faggot which gets served on the dish.

How do you want diners to feel when they enter? And when they leave?

David: When you enter, we want you to feel that you are in a welcoming, calming, relaxing place. Where you know that you will be well looked after whilst enjoying exquisite food. When you leave, we would like you to feel uplifted. Our hospitality is all about how we make you feel. It’s that simple and it’s that hard.

Cornus is all about celebrating British produce combined with French cooking techniques – can you tell me about your relationship with local suppliers?

Gary: The majority of the suppliers we use, I have known personally for many years. You can only achieve a certain level of cooking without quality produce - you can’t make a silk purse from a sow’s ear, so to speak. That’s why I place huge importance on the quality and provenance of the produce we use. I want people to come to Cornus and walk away knowing they have eaten something that people care about growing, supplying and cooking.

What made you choose Eccleston Yards as the location for Cornus?

Joe: Both Eccleston Yards and the Ice Factory building attracted us to do our second project here. The rooftop location, with its terraces and natural light, made us feel we could create something special.

Did either of you grow up in a foodie household?

Joe: My mother loves food and is a wonderful cook, but shamefully I didn’t pay that much attention to what she was doing growing up. I wish I had. It wasn’t until after university that I discovered my love of cooking.

David: My parents ran a small restaurant in Heswall, Wirral. I worked there and I developed a passion for looking after people from a very young age.

Did you face any challenges when creating Cornus?

From its inception in January 2023 to its opening in August 2024, it was a constant challenge. Keeping the project alive and then on track was incredibly difficult, and it resulted in many sleepless nights. Nothing worth having comes easy though.

David: Getting the restaurant off the ground has had many difficulties, but coming through adversity is something that I find very rewarding. Ultimately, I have quiet confidence that our values and principles will eventually take us to where we want the business to be.

January marked our 12th Belgravia Awards, which took place in The Peninsula London’s stunning ballroom. Held to honour 10 outstanding members of our local community, the evening was a celebration of the individuals who dedicate their time and energy to make our neighbourhood one of the best places to live.

We were delighted that a leading British actor in theatre, television and film –

Freddie Fox – was able to join us as guest presenter of honour. We were also thrilled to have so many fabulous Belgravia retailers showcasing their work on the evening. We would like to extend a huge thank you to Neill Strain for providing the gorgeous flowers and to Rachel Vosper for scenting the room.

Guests were well watered and fed thanks to Amélie, Sachi and Biscuiteers, who provided us with bites of their delicious food, and the team at The Clandesti bar at Chelsea Barracks, who helped us put

a swift end to dry January by mixing up some excellent cocktails.

IAll you need is Loveday: introducing Belgravia’s new neighbour

WORDS: BIBI COOPER

Luxury living

n the heart of Belgravia, a luxury residential care home is set to redefine the standards of senior living. In partnership with Amazon Property, Loveday Belgravia is bringing a unique concept to the area by providing the highest standards of personalised senior care, integrating top-tier medical support with a hospitality-first mindset, ensuring that residents enjoy their golden years in comfort and style.

Situated at 48-56 Ebury Bridge Road, Loveday Belgravia spans 41,000 sq ft and features 44 luxury suites, each costing more than £1 million to build. Designed by EPR Architects, the residence is sophisticated, spacious and ultra chic, and the atmosphere is welcoming and elegant. Communal spaces feature contemporary art, plush furnishings and natural light streaming through the many windows. As Laurence Geller, chief executive of Loveday, says: “This is not just a care home, it is an extension of a life well lived.”

Set across seven floors, the residence includes a state-of-the-art gym and hydro treadmill for rehabilitation and physical wellbeing, a cocktail lounge, art studio, hair and beauty salon and a stylish lounge on each residential floor. Members will also benefit from a comprehensive suite of

wellness services designed to promote vitality and overall health.

We sat down with Laurence to learn a bit more about our new neighbours.

How did Loveday come about?

My passion for creating Loveday was deeply personal. Both of my parents lived with Alzheimer’s and during that time, I felt utterly helpless. There were no suitable residences that provided the care, dignity and quality of life they deserved. Loveday was born out of that need – to create exactly what they and so many others needed but couldn’t find. There is never a day that goes by when I don’t wish I had known then what I know now. I could have made my parents’ lives so much

Our award-winning team is committed to enhancing the wellbeing of our members by integrating personalised, compassionate care with exceptional hospitality, enriching experiences and top-tier services. This ensures an unparalleled standard of excellence. We hope our members and their families view Loveday as a continuation of the lives they have been living and not a fundamental change.

We also collaborate closely with leading academics and research institutions,

constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the care industry. At Loveday, we strive to go above and beyond in making a meaningful impact on people’s lives. Our residences are located in prime central London areas, including Chelsea, Kensington, Abbey Road and now, of course, Belgravia.

What made you choose Belgravia for Loveday’s latest residence?

Belgravia is a premium neighbourhood and its prestige aligns perfectly with the Loveday brand. Known for its rich history, elegance and sophistication, Belgravia offers the ideal environment for a luxurious senior living experience.

The area is renowned for its sense of community and charm, with its iconic garden squares, beautifully maintained streets and vibrant atmosphere. It’s a neighbourhood where every detail exudes quality, making it an inspiring setting for our members.

This wonderful community also boasts a curated selection of shops, cafes and restaurants, all within walking distance. From charming independent boutiques to world-class dining establishments, the area offers endless opportunities for our members to enjoy and continue their refined lifestyles.

What’s the inspiration when setting up and designing a new residence?

The Belgravia building was inspired by a desire to set a new benchmark in luxury senior living. We started with our first Loveday residence in Chelsea in late 2016. At the time, we had modest expectations but the concept exceeded them, quickly becoming a success. Building on this, we realised the potential to redefine luxury care and began upgrading the property to align with true luxury standards, drawing extensively on user feedback. For Belgravia, we’ve taken everything we’ve learned and aimed to deliver an even higher level of excellence.

How does membership work?

Membership at Loveday provides access to our full suite of hospitality and care services, including residential care, day clubs and respite stays.

Members receive a personalised care plan based on an initial in-home assessment, with ongoing reviews to adapt to changing needs. Access to expert advice, Loveday’s concierge, day clubs and events is included. Additional services such as therapies, medical consultations, salon treatments, CQC-registered transportation and bespoke concierge requests are available to support members in maintaining their preferred lifestyle. Loveday ensures every detail is tailored and handled with care.

What makes Loveday unique?

Our exceptional combination of personalised care and hospitality distinguishes Loveday from other luxury

care residences. Our care is delivered with precision and compassion, while our hospitality services rival those of the finest hotels. Our dining experience is comparable to a fine-dining restaurant, with seasonal, chef-curated menus designed to delight every palate. Our team goes above and beyond to ensure members live their very best lives. We help them continue to enjoy their hobbies and interests, from arts and culture to fine dining and beyond. Every detail is considered to make their experience truly exceptional.

Could you tell us more about the events and experiences you offer?

We pride ourselves on creating meaningful and enriching experiences for our members. We partner with Opera Holland Park, whose artists perform monthly at our residences. These performances are paired with afternoon teas and our members also enjoy attending the summer opera season, complete with backstage meet-and-greets with the cast.

Fashion designers like Julien Macdonald and Karen Millen have given talks at our residences, sharing insights into their careers. These events include catwalk fashion shows and champagne afternoon teas.

We also organise outings to theatres, museums and art galleries. One member used to dine at The Ritz weekly, so we’ve continued this tradition by arranging luncheons there. Another member was a sports car enthusiast, so we arranged a test drive for her. Additionally, we have an artist in residence who hosts weekly workshops, culminating in art exhibitions where members can showcase their creativity.

Nothing is impossible when it comes to fulfilling our members’ interests and passions.

My work in floral couture is intrinsically linked to interiors. When designing for a client’s home, the first thing I do is immerse myself in the space –observing the lighting, colours, fabrics and textures, as well as the scale of the room. Sensitively working in harmony with an interior, while bringing my own design aesthetic, taste and deep knowledge of flowers, has been key to my success.

Having launched my business in Belgravia 17 years ago, I have been privileged to work in some of the most

extraordinary residences in the world, from the grand townhouses of Eaton Square to luxury superyachts and opulent Middle Eastern palaces. The stunning architecture and magnificent homes of Belgravia have played a defining role in shaping my creative journey, and working with clients in the

area has been an essential part of the business’s trajectory.

I am endlessly inspired by interior design – its dialogue with architecture and art deeply influences my floral creations. One of the things I love most about being based in Belgravia is being surrounded by some of London’s finest interiors boutiques. A Saturday morning stroll through the neighbourhood is always an inspiring experience, discovering exquisite design pieces that elevate the beauty of a space – just as flowers do.

SOFT SPOT

“I love this Chelsea Textiles cushion for its timeless appeal – it’s the perfect accent piece to add character and elegance to a sofa or armchair. The intricate embroidery and natural fibres make it a tactile and visual delight, effortlessly enhancing the charm of any interior space.”

BRANCHING OUT

“I love the Plumbago Tree wallpaper by Mia Reay for its exquisite Tree of Life design, inspired by an ancient textile. The combination of burnt orange and denim blue brings warmth and depth to a space, while the intricate plumbago auriculata flowers and border add a timeless elegance. It’s perfect for creating a bold yet refined statement in any room.”

MAKE AN ENTRANCE

“This impressively tall floral arrangement, over one metre in height and available at my boutique, Neill Strain Floral Couture, is the ultimate statement piece for an entrance hall. Its grandeur immediately captivates, while the exceptional beauty of the blooms and their meticulous presentation in a mouth-blown, handmade glass vase elevates any interior with unparalleled luxury and refinement.”

£755, 11 West Halkin Street

BOX CLEVER

“I love this piece for its versatility – it’s perfect for storing cherished items or important documents while adding a touch of elegance to a desk or shelf. At £68.50, it’s an exquisite way to bring a hint of Nina Campbell’s signature style into a home, making it a thoughtful gift or a treat for oneself.”

of refinement to intimate spaces, while multiples of them create a chic and inviting setting around a coffee table. Upholstered in Hollingbourne fabric, it effortlessly combines comfort and style, making it an exquisite addition to any home.”

£2,950, 43 Pimlico Road

IN THE PINK

“The Hyacinth Porcelain from Fiona Finds, exclusively handcrafted in France for our Lowndes Street neighbour, is a truly stunning piece. With its vibrant pink porcelain blooms, elegant white planter and beautifully detailed bronze leaves, it’s a masterful combination of artistry and luxury.”

£990, 29 Lowndes Street

FRESH TAKE

“Mia Reay’s Besler Iris wallpaper is a favourite for its delicate repeat pattern inspired by the 17th-century Besler Florilegium. The Siam blue and soft white palette feels both fresh and classic, while the iris calcedonica latifolia design adds a touch of historical charm. It’s a stunning way to bring botanical beauty and sophistication into a home.”

Restaurant?

Mina’s on Motcomb Street. The team there is so wonderful – and so is the truffle pizza! Dining on the terrace in the sun is a great way to unwind.

Shop?

Mungo & Maud for my dog, Peggy Porschen for cupcakes, Dolce & Gabbana for black lace dresses and of course, Coco de Mer for lingerie.

Cafe?

Café Kitsuné as it’s so close to our boutique and I love their cinnamon buns and truffle egg sandwiches. Or Hagen for their smoked salmon and avocado on rye. I’m not really a coffee person, although I sometimes stretch to a decaf oat latte!

Glam?

Hershesons for a blow-dry. It has the added benefit of Hagen inside.
