A New Look for a Renewed Vision

Introducing Our New Visual Identity

Find out more about our fresh, new brand...

Dear Members,

chair@reikifed.co.uk

Welcome to the summer 2025 edition of Reiki World!

This summer feels like a turning point for the UK Reiki Federation. Not just because of the change in season, but because of the sheer scale of evolution taking place across our organisation.

After months of dedicated work behind the scenes, we are proud to unveil a refreshed brand identity that feels more aligned with who we are now - and where we’re headed.

This is more than a visual update. It represents a deeper, more intentional step forward: clearer, more confident, and designed to support a growing and diverse membership as we collectively shape the future of Reiki in the UK and beyond.

None of this happens by accident. It takes insight, effort, and collaboration - qualities that we’ve seen in abundance from the team.

The rebrand has been shaped by our core values of compassion, professionalism, and community, and we’ve worked hard to ensure that the changes feel not just modern, but meaningful.

vicechair@reikifed.co.uk

We want to extend special thanks to everyone involved in this process. So many of our committee members, volunteers and contributors have played a vital role in bringing this vision to life. But we must give particular credit to our Marketing & Communications Director, Kerrie Baker, who has pulled off a truly superhuman feat. From developing and implementing the new brand, to producing this summer magazine, updating our certificates and designing a new suite of member and client leaflets - Kerrie’s contribution has been nothing short of exceptional.

This issue of Reiki World celebrates that spirit of renewal. You’ll find articles that reflect on growth, on staying grounded in a fast-changing world, and on connecting more deeply with your own practice. We hope you enjoy reading it as much as we’ve enjoyed creating it.

Thank you for being with us - whether you’re new to the UKRF or have been part of the journey for years. We’re honoured to walk this path with you.

UK Reiki Federation Conference 2025

Saturday 5th & Sunday 6th July

Reiki Community Gathers in Surrey for UKRF Conference 2025

This annual event marks a special occasion for Reiki practitioners, teachers and supporters as we come together for the UK Reiki Federation’s 2025 Annual Conference, held in the beautiful surroundings of Coulsdon Manor Hotel in Surrey on the Saturday, and online for a virtual experience for the second day.

With the theme “Empowering Your Reiki Journey: Reconnect with the Heart of Reiki – and Yourself”, the conference has been planned to be a heart-opening celebration of community, insight, and healing. Attendees will enjoy an inspiring programme of talks, practical sessions and shared experiences, all designed to deepen Reiki practice and nurture personal growth.

Coulsdon Manor, our Saturday venue, set in peaceful parkland, provides the perfect backdrop for reflection, connection and energetic renewal. Over the course of two days, the Reiki community will gather to explore fresh perspectives, reconnect with the core of Reiki, and celebrate the diversity of approaches that unite us, one day in person, the next day online. Whether this is your first conference or one of many, the shared sense of belonging and purpose is unmistakable.

We’ll be sharing a full write-up of the weekend in our autumn issue of Reiki World, including highlights from our speakers, reflections from attendees, and photos from this joyful gathering.

In the meantime, we send heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us – whether in person, online, or in spirit – for making this weekend so special.

UK Reiki Federation: A New Look for a Renewed Vision

For 25 years, the UK Reiki Federation (UKRF) has stood as a beacon of support, professionalism and integrity within the Reiki community. While our principles have never wavered, the world around us has evolved – and so must we. That’s why, after thoughtful reflection, collaboration and creativity, we’re proud to unveil a fresh new look for the UK Reiki Federation: a revitalised brand identity designed to reflect who we are today, and who we aspire to be tomorrow.

This is more than a logo update or a new colour palette. It’s a visual and tonal shift that carries the energy of our evolving purpose – to remain relevant, respected and resonant in a modern world, while staying deeply rooted in the Reiki principles we honour.

Why We’ve Updated Our Brand

Reiki is a practice rooted in tradition, but that doesn’t mean it stands still. The same can be said of the UK Reiki Federation. Since our last branding refresh seven years ago, our organisation has grown in visibility, professionalism and impact. We’ve expanded our efforts in education, research, and animal Reiki, while embracing new technologies, building stronger partnerships and welcoming an increasingly diverse membership.

However, while our work has evolved, our outward identity had started to feel a little out of step with our ambition. The look was clean and precise, yes – but lacked the vibrancy, depth and energy that characterises the UKRF of today. It was time for a refresh. Not to change who we are, but to better express it.

The Process: Thoughtful, Inclusive, Intentional

We approached this rebrand with care and clarity. Branding isn’t just aesthetics – it’s about how people feel when they engage with us. So we asked ourselves:

• What does it feel like to be part of the UK Reiki Federation?

• How do we want to be perceived by new practitioners, seasoned teachers, the public, and professional organisations?

• What elements of our existing identity were still working, and what needed renewal?

With these questions in mind, our Branding Lead, Toni Hannan, created a comprehensive brand toolkit. This process was informed by member feedback, industry best practices, and a deep dive into our values and vision. Our Marketing & Communications Director, Kerrie Baker developed this toolkit and brought it to life across all our assets. The result is an identity that feels fresh yet familiar, contemporary yet grounded.

Introducing Our New Visual Identity

At the heart of the rebrand is our updated logo. You’ll notice it retains the essence of the UKRF acronym – a nod to our history and recognition – but with cleaner lines, balanced spacing, and a refined layout that signals clarity and confidence. It has been designed to be more adaptable across platforms, whether you’re reading a printed leaflet or scrolling through our Instagram.

Our new colour palette carries symbolic resonance:

• Enlightenment Berry - represents healing, spirituality and leadership. It’s bold, confident and quietly powerful – much like our community,

• Connected Mid Plum - brings warmth, openness and approachability

• Grounded Green - signifies balance, trust and growth,

• Emotion Pink - reflects kindness, calm and simplicity,

• Optimistic Lime - adds energy, optimism and vitality – a playful but purposeful spark,

• Calming Blue - brings a cool contrast to our palette.

Together, these colours breathe life into everything from our conference posters to our social media presence, reflecting a multifaceted organisation with soul and substance.

Typography has also been modernised with a move to the versatile Lato typeface – a clean, neutral, highly legible font that balances professionalism with approachability. It performs beautifully across print and digital formats and supports our commitment to clarity and accessibility.

Our new logo

The lotus-inspired emblem is a simple yet powerful symbol of growth, resilience, and renewal - qualities that align closely with Reiki practice.

It reflects our connection to tradition while presenting a fresh, modern look that represents the evolving Reiki community.

Variations...

The white version of our logo will be used against darker backgrounds to give contrast.

UK Reiki Federation: A New Look for a Renewed Vision

Tone of Voice: The Way We Speak

Our tone of voice is just as important as our visuals. It’s the heartbeat of our communication. Our new brand guidelines call for a voice that is:

• Warm and empathetic – because compassion is central to everything we do.

• Clear and concise – so our messages are understood by all, not just the initiated.

• Supportive and encouraging – because we believe in lifting each other up.

• Knowledgeable but humble – because we know the learning journey never ends.

This tonal guidance helps ensure that every email, article, event invitation or social post feels unmistakably “UKRF”.

Rooted in Our Pillars and Values

The rebrand is also deeply anchored in our foundational pillars: Caring, Knowledge, and Community. These aren’t abstract concepts – they are living values, embedded into our decision-making, our events, and our support services.

We are:

Caring – We support our members at every stage of their journey with warmth, empathy and genuine understanding. Whether you’re new to Reiki or a seasoned Master Teacher, you belong here.

Knowledgeable – We uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity, always guided by the Reiki principles, our Constitution, and our Code of Ethics. Our aim is to share reliable information with humility and grace.

A Community – We foster an inclusive and supportive environment where Reiki practitioners from all walks of life can connect, grow, and thrive. This sense of belonging is at the heart of who we are.

Our Vision and Values in Action

The visual update also reflects the deeper intentions that have shaped our revised Vision and Values:

The UKRF is committed to providing support to the Reiki Community by promoting the highest standards of Reiki at all levels through respect, positivity and compassion. We aim to lead the way and to be innovators in Reiki education, animal Reiki and research for every step of your Reiki journey.

This statement has guided our choices, ensuring our brand feels aligned with our purpose. And within that overarching vision, our core values shine:

• Compassion – Supporting our members through their learning and practice.

• Kindness – Treating everyone with dignity, always.

• Gratitude – Valuing our members and their contributions.

• Professionalism – Holding ourselves to the highest ethical and practice standards.

• Self-care – Encouraging wellbeing in ourselves and others.

These values aren’t just pinned to a boardroom wall – they’re stitched into the fabric of our daily work, from membership services to public advocacy.

What This Means for Our Members

So, what can you expect as a member of the UK Reiki Federation?

• A clearer, more consistent brand experience – whether you’re reading a newsletter or attending an event, you’ll notice a professional, unified presentation that builds credibility and trust.

• Better resources – Our templates, materials and communications will be easier to navigate, more visually appealing, and more supportive of your journey as a Reiki practitioner or teacher.

• A stronger public presence – A refreshed identity helps us better engage with the public, other organisations, and potential members, boosting the reputation of Reiki as a whole.

In other words, our new brand isn’t just about looking good. It’s about working better – for you, for the Reiki community, and for the people we serve.

Looking Ahead

The UK Reiki Federation is proud to carry forward a legacy of integrity and excellence while embracing a future full of possibility. This rebrand marks an exciting new chapter – one that honours where we’ve been, clarifies who we are, and opens new doors for where we’re going.

To our members: thank you. This rebrand wouldn’t be possible without your input, support and commitment to our shared values. We hope you see yourself reflected in this new identity – not just in the logo or colours, but in the feeling it gives you.

We invite you to explore the brand in action, share it proudly, and continue to be part of this beautiful, compassionate, and ever-growing community.

After all, a brand is only as strong as the people behind it – and we’re proud to be on this journey with you.

Embracing the Power of Connection

The Benefits of the UK Reiki Federation Distance Healing Group

In a world that often feels disconnected, the UK Reiki Federation (UKRF) offers a beacon of compassionate connection through its invaluable Distance Healing Group. This unique initiative brings together Reiki practitioners and those seeking support, fostering a powerful network of energetic healing that transcends physical boundaries. Whether you’re a recipient or a sender, the benefits of participating in this group are profound and far-reaching.

A lifeline of support for those in need

For individuals facing health challenges, emotional distress, or simply navigating life’s ups and downs, the UKRF Distance Healing Group offers a tangible source of comfort and energetic support. Anyone, anywhere in the world (including you reading this article), can request distance healing for themselves, a loved one, or even a beloved pet. This free service provides a sense of being held and cared for, knowing that dedicated Reiki practitioners are regularly directing healing energy their way.

Recipients often report experiencing:

Deep relaxation and stress reduction: In a world rife with anxiety, the calming influence of Reiki can be a welcome balm, promoting a sense of inner peace and tranquility.

Enhanced wellbeing: Many find that the energy helps to alleviate discomfort, promote better sleep, and foster a general sense of renewed vitality.

Emotional release and clarity: Reiki can gently support the processing of emotions, offering a pathway to greater emotional balance and perspective.

Strengthened self-healing abilities: By encouraging the body’s natural restorative processes, distance healing can empower individuals on their healing journey.

The beauty of distance healing lies in its accessibility.

The beauty of distance healing lies in its accessibility. It requires no physical presence, making it ideal for those who are homebound, unwell, or simply prefer to receive healing in the comfort of their own space.

Empowering practitioners through giving and receiving

The UKRF Distance Healing Group isn’t just about sending energy out - it’s also a powerful opportunity for Reiki practitioners to deepen their own practice and connection to Reiki. By volunteering their time to send healing, practitioners can:

Reinforce their connection to Reiki energy: Regular practice, especially with a clear intention for others, strengthens the practitioner’s channel and flow of Reiki.

Cultivate compassion and selfless service: The act of sending healing to those in need is a deeply compassionate act, fostering a sense of altruism and universal connection.

Experience the reciprocal nature of energy: Many practitioners find that as they send healing, they also feel energised and uplifted themselves, demonstrating the inherent reciprocity of Reiki.

Benefit from mutual support: The members of our distance healing group also send Reiki to each other too, creating a supportive community where practitioners can both give and receive healing, reinforcing their own wellbeing.

Maintain and enhance their skills: Consistent practice through the group helps practitioners to keep their Reiki skills sharp and their energy flowing.

The UKRF Distance Healing Group is a testament to the profound interconnectedness that Reiki embodies. It’s a vibrant community where compassion flows freely, offering a vital source of support for those seeking healing and a powerful avenue for practitioners to further their dedication to this beautiful practice. In a time when connection is more vital than ever, this initiative truly shines as a beacon of hope and healing.

A Summer Season of Renewal

Gold is the colour of adundance, luxury, prosperity & warmth

As we bask in the season of summer, it’s amazing to feel just how quickly this year is passing by. The swaying daffodils have long since gone and have been replaced by summer roses and longer days filled with the warmer energy we’ve all been craving.

This season is filled with the fire energy of the sun, helping all of us get out and soak up the free, natural vitamin D we need.

We all tend to look after ourselves more during the colder, darker months - but how much attention do we really give to the warmer half of the year in regard to our health and wellbeing?

We don’t stop needing TLC just because it’s summer. In fact, we may need it more than we realise.

Just think about it - if our bodies aren’t properly cared for, they can become dehydrated, burnt, and fatigued. It’s important to remember that prevention is better than cure. Mind, body, and soul wellbeing starts from the inside, at the cellular level.

We’re all reminded to drink plenty of water on hotter days, but some people just don’t like the taste. I highly recommend using Reiki on your water and tasting it afterwards - it feels purer, more energising, and delicious.

If you really need a different taste, infuse water with slices of your favourite fruits and herbs. Strawberry, mint, and watermelon is divine.

Or become your own mixologist and create lovely, refreshing mocktails filled with slices of citrus fruits, cucumber, kiwi, apples, and berries.

These drinks taste wonderful, aren’t packed with additives, are kinder to your teeth, and full of nutrients. You can also make fresh fruit frozen lollies - why not add natural mint, lemon, lime, or orange too?

Although we eat more cold foods in summer, it’s also important to maintain balance with warm options like soups, herbal teas, rice dishes, and tomato-based pasta sauces. Light cheeses, yoghurts, lentils, chickpeas, and oily fish are great for calcium and energy.

The colour spectrum I’m focusing on this season is gold and yellow. While summer is often associated with bright sunshine, we still get grey days. Like our bodies, our eyes benefit from a visual boost. Adding colour therapy can lift our mood.

Gold is the colour of abundance, luxury, prosperity, and warmth. It complements any

Lorraine Carroll

other colour while commanding higher energy. Place it in your work or wealth area at home or in business for a boost.

Yellow stimulates thought and energy, and works beautifully with shades of blue. Though opposites on the colour wheel, they complement each other- yellow uplifts, and blue soothes and supports communication.

The chakras I recommend this season are the solar plexus and the divine gateway chakra, which resides above the crown. This chakra governs universal consciousness. We all use Reiki to connect with and ‘send’ energy into the universe - but how often do we include this chakra in our sessions? Try connecting with it next time. You may be surprised by the depth of that experience.

Your solar plexus does a huge amount of work—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. It governs what we put into our bodies, so feed yourself well physically, emotionally, and mentally. Reiki your food, and work with both the solar plexus and divine gateway chakras to bring about balance.

Healing the solar plexus can help you rediscover your willpower and confidence- and may move you closer to your goals.

Let’s also consider scent. Uplifting summer aromas like cotton fresh, linen, sea salt, and coconut work beautifully in your space. Citrus

oils like tangerine, bergamot, grapefruit, lime, lemon, and tea tree, as well as peppermint and spearmint, are great pick-me-ups. For more restful moments, try ylang ylang, cedarwood, jasmine - or visualise walking through a blooming lavender field.

For those celebrating naturebased festivals, summer is the time of Litha, the midsummer solstice, and Lammas, a time of gratitude and harvest. Whether it’s literal bread from your kitchen or the goals you’ve nurtured through the year, take a moment to reflect on how far you’ve come.

Summer isn’t over yet - there’s still time to work towards your dreams. Keep your mindset strong, and watch your plans flourish.

Add colour and life with sunflowers, marigolds, hibiscus, roses, and herbs like mint, dill, coriander, basil, and chives. Crystal lovers may wish to use citrine, rose quartz, orange

A Summer Season of Renewal

or yellow calcite, amber, topaz, or sandstoneespecially around the solar plexus and divine gateway chakras. Clear quartz can amplify this work.

For those connecting with angelic energy, Archangel Jophiel and Archangel Uriel are linked with summer. Jophiel brings clarity and positivity, visualised as golden light at the crown chakra. Uriel, “Master of the Universal Life Force,” helps release emotional or mental attachments and supports emotional healing and creativity.

However you choose to embrace summer, do it mindfully. We all have difficult days, but recognising imbalances - physically, emotionally, or spiritually - can help you regain alignment.

Summer’s intensity can overwhelm us, but gentle self-care practices can have a powerful impact as we move towards the year’s second half.

Wishing you a radiant season - whether you’re barefoot on a beach, reading in a shady park, or sharing a BBQ with loved ones, may your summer be filled with love, light, and laughter.

Reiki in the Age of AI

Reflective Practice for Practitioners in a New Phase of Evolution

The rise of Artificial Intelligence over the past two decades - particularly the rapid acceleration of the last five years - has brought profound shifts to our lives. For me, this speed has made grounding and centering more essential than ever. Emotions such as curiosity, excitement, overwhelm, and even dread often arrive simultaneously, shaping how I navigate both my personal and professional practice.

As a practitioner and coach focused on holistic communication - especially within systems of harm and networks of care—I’ve come to see AI as present on both sides of that spectrum. It offers access to new, unexplored terrain that is changing how we relate to ourselves, each other, and the world. AI can assist in highly practical ways: reducing workloads, enhancing accessibility, and streamlining communication. As someone who encourages tools that foster inclusive dialogue, I recognise the potential AI holds. At the same time, many people I meet either don’t realise they’re already using AI or feel they’ve been left behind by it.

There’s no doubt that AI is reshaping how we live, work, and heal. This naturally invites holistic practices like Reiki into a new phase of evolution.

In my work with the UK Reiki Federation and in discussions with fellow practitioners, we’ve reflected on the ways AI aligns - or could align - with Reiki. We believe that AI can be a supportive tool, helping us shape a world that’s more conscious, connected, and compassionate.

Reiki practitioners, like professionals across all sectors, are being called to consider how we adapt while staying true to our roots. This isn’t about replacing hands-on healing with machines - it’s about asking how technology can support Reiki’s deeper mission: to promote balance, awareness, and wellbeing.

Many of us already use meditation apps, explore AI’s role in healthcare, or lean on tech to enhance client care. As AI continues to evolve, we’re offered a profound opportunity to reflect on how we integrate these tools with intention and integrity.

Reflective Questions:

• How has my Reiki practice changed over the past five years?

• How might AI influence it in future?

• Where do I feel at ease - or uneasy - about technology in Reiki?

• Which aspects feel timeless, and which could benefit from innovation?

I always welcome hearing your reflections - let’s keep learning and growing together on this path.

Luna’s visit to the vet

So today was the dreaded vet day!!

For those who have attended our Animal Reiki courses, you may remember Luna the Lab and her high anxiety levels. It has been a challenge to say the least, trying to acclimatise her to farm life, with her instant dislike of horses and other dogs.

Luna belongs to my adult grandson, and he and his partner have just had a beautiful baby boy and are waiting to move into a new RAF house, so Luna came to live with us for a bit. I hadn’t seen Luna since she was 8 weeks old and she is 18 months now, so it’s been a while since we met.

I think because growing up staying with Gran for weeks or months at a time was normal for them and thinking Luna was just part of the family so it would be just the same for her.

However Luna didn’t understand that. In her mind, her family had taken her to a stranger’s house and abandoned her there.

It’s been a bit of a shock for her and the transition to farm dog has been a major lifestyle change. Dealing with her anxieties around the mustangs has been the hardest part, and it has felt a bit like trying to do farm chores with one hand tied behind my back as I need to have eyes on her at all times to stop her chasing the herd. She appears to be attempting to engage them in play, the mares ignore her completely. However the boys get defensive, and they charge at her striking out with their front feet just as they would for any potential predator threat. Mustangs take their role as the great protector very seriouslynobody touches their mares and gets away with it!

Luna has required LOTS of Reiki to help her cope with farm life and fortunately, there are plenty of Animal Reiki students around to practice their Canine Reiki skills on her.

Laura Barbour

But today it’s vet time eek!! It is almost time for her to return to her own family but before she can go back, she needs to be up-todate with her vaccinations, and have a full health check at the vet. Oh joy of joys!

As Luna has been taking part in the Animal Reiki Courses for a few months now I knew she would be okay with the vet handling her, once we got to the exam room, but it is one of those vets inside a busy shopping centre with the waiting room in the middle of a pet shop.

For that kind of stress, we need plenty of ‘Reiki Magic’. As we got out of the car, I kept sending Reiki down through the lead, and we managed to pass the rats and guinea pigs without too much trouble, and finally reached the waiting area at the back, full of barking dogs. After about 5 minutes of hands-on Reiki for Luna and some subtle beaming to the other dogs in the waiting area - all dogs were lying quietly at their owners’ feet waiting their turn.

We have had two Animal Reiki students recently who work in small animal vets’ surgeries, and have had permission from the practice owners to offer Reiki as an extra service, so we will hopefully see Reiki being more commonplace in this setting and maybe even sometime soon it will be normal practice.

The Benefits of CNHC Registration

Why CNHC Registration is a Game-Changer for Reiki Practitioners

As the world of complementary healthcare continues to grow and evolve, professional recognition is becoming more important than ever. For Reiki practitioners in the UK, registering with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) brings a host of benefits that not only boost your professional credibility but also help you build trust with clients and expand your opportunities. Whether you’re looking to advance your skills, attract new clients, or gain access to new professional networks, CNHC registration can make a real difference.

1. Professional Recognition and Credibility

The CNHC is the UK’s voluntary regulator for complementary healthcare practitioners, established with government support to protect the public. It is also accredited by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care, a body accountable to Parliament. By registering with the CNHC, Reiki practitioners demonstrate that they meet UK-wide standards of practice and adhere to a strict Code of Conduct, Ethics and Performance. This recognition helps distinguish registered practitioners from unregulated individuals, enhancing their professional credibility.

2. Increased Client Trust and Confidence

Clients seeking complementary therapies are increasingly aware of the importance of professional standards. Being listed on the CNHC register reassures clients that a Reiki practitioner has met rigorous training and ethical standards. This is particularly valuable in a field like Reiki, where public understanding can vary. CNHC registration signals a commitment to safe, responsible, and effective practice, helping to build long-term client trust.

3. Eligibility for NHS and Insurance Referrals

Many NHS services and private health insurers now prefer or require complementary therapists to be CNHC-registered. This opens up opportunities for Reiki practitioners to work in integrated healthcare settings, such as hospices, GP surgeries, or wellness clinics. It also means clients may be able to claim back treatment costs through their health insurance, making services more accessible and appealing.

4. Professional Development and Networking

CNHC registration encourages ongoing professional development. Practitioners are expected to keep their skills and knowledge up to date, which supports continuous improvement in practice. Additionally, being part of a recognised professional body provides access to a network of like-minded practitioners, resources, and events that can support career growth and collaboration.

5. Public and Employer Visibility

The CNHC’s online register allows the public, employers, and commissioners to search for qualified practitioners by name, location, or therapy type. This visibility can help Reiki practitioners attract new clients and professional opportunities. Employers and healthcare commissioners often use the CNHC register to verify qualifications and ensure practitioners meet national standards.

6. Advocacy and Representation

As a registered practitioner, you are part of a collective voice advocating for the role of complementary therapies in mainstream healthcare. The CNHC works with government bodies, healthcare organisations, and professional associations to promote the value of complementary therapies like Reiki in supporting health and wellbeing.

Conclusion

For Reiki practitioners committed to high standards and professional growth, CNHC registration is a valuable step. It not only enhances credibility and client trust but also opens doors to broader career opportunities and integration into the wider healthcare system. In a field where trust and professionalism are paramount, CNHC registration is a powerful endorsement of a practitioner’s dedication to excellence.

Keep an eye out for the UKRF Support Workshops on how to get registered through our assessment process.

To bring the spiritual depth into everyday life, Mikao Usui, the founder of the system of Reiki, created a set of five principles (or precepts). They can be found on his memorial stone in the grounds of the Saihoji Temple in Tokyo. He called them...

‘The secret method of inviting good fortune. The marvellous medicine for all sickness.’

Every morning and every night sit in Gassho (palms placed together) and speak these words out loud in your heart - Mikao Usui

Natsuyasumi: The Sacred Pause of Summer

In Japan, summer brings with it a season of light, growth, and rest - captured in the word Natsuyasumi. Often translated simply as “summer holiday,” Natsuyasumi holds a much deeper spiritual invitation: to pause, reflect, and reconnect.

The Energy of the Season

Where spring invites us to awaken and bloom, summer encourages us to expand - yet gently. Just like the vibrant green leaves that sway in the breeze, our own energy seeks both movement and rest in balance. Reiki practitioners understand the importance of stillness amid activity, of honouring our inner rhythms even in the brightness of the season.

Natsuyasumi asks us to take a break from striving, and instead focus on presencewhether we’re walking barefoot in the grass, sipping cool tea under a shaded tree, or giving ourselves Reiki under the golden glow of a summer sunset.

Rituals for Your Own Natsuyasumi

Here are some gentle ways to bring the spirit of Natsuyasumi into your Reiki practice this season:

Morning Reiki in Nature

Begin your day with a short self-Reiki session outdoors or near a window. Let the light energise your practice as you breathe in the fresh summer air.

Cool Water Cleansing (mizu-yoku)

In traditional Japanese culture, cleansing with cool water in the summer months is a ritual of both physical and energetic purification. Try soaking your feet in cold water, adding a few drops of essential oils like yuzu or mint, and performing Reiki on your lower chakras to release heat and tension.

Seasonal Tea & Stillness

Enjoy a mindful tea ritual with cooling herbs like peppermint or lemon balm. As you sip, reflect on what you’ve accomplished so far this year, and what you’re ready to release or invite in.

Create a Natsuyasumi Space

Dedicate a small corner in your home to summer rest: soft cushions, a fan, fresh flowers, or stones from your favourite outdoor walk. Use this space for quiet Reiki, journalling, or simply doing nothing at all.

The Power of Pause

In a world that rarely stops moving, the concept of Natsuyasumi reminds us that rest is sacred. Reiki teaches us that energy flows best when it is unforced - and so too with life. Allow yourself the space to do less. To simply be. This is not laziness - it is healing.

As you move through the summer months, may you carry the wisdom of Natsuyasumi with you - making space to breathe, rest, and return to your centre. In doing so, you keep your light burning steadily, ready to shine into the seasons ahead.

Let this summer be your invitation to pause. Whether it’s five minutes or a full day, take time to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with what truly matters. In the stillness, healing begins.

Sustainable Healthcare Group

I thought you might like an update on what we have been up to over the last few months.

One of our members completed her article about Camp Bestival which appeared in our last edition of Reiki World magazine. She has also applied for a Reiki Therapy post at St. George’s Hospital Tooting and is awaiting confirmation.

The group have also submitted all the daily Reiki tips received from feedback. There were 50 in total, and they have been forwarded to The Integrated Healthcare Collaborative who are leading on this project.

One of our new members has been invited to a local Social Prescribing event in her local area run by a charity called Spring Project, and we are looking forward to her feedback. She is also looking to register with the CNHC so she can work with the Social Prescribing group.

We also have a member attending a Health Technology event which will be interesting to hear what exciting things are happening. She is also looking to attend Holistic fairs again this year to spread Reiki and the Reiki Federation.

Another of our members had exciting news: she is joining the Wellness suite at Queen’s Hospital Romford, Essex, as Reiki Therapist treatments are available to all staff - we are so pleased for her.

Our newest member is a qualified teacher and a recently qualified Reiki therapist, and is very keen to get Reiki into schools (starting with teachers as a way in) to offer taster treatments on inset days. She is also attending an Alopecia Day where she is part of a therapy team offering taster Reiki sessions.

That’s all for now, if you are interested in joining our group, please contact me at clinical@reikifed.co.uk.

Peace and light, Sharon Penny

Soaking up the Season…

As the days grow longer and the sun warms the earth, summer invites us to slow down, open up, and reconnect with ourselves in new ways. This issue of Reiki World features the concept of Natsuyasumi - the Japanese concept of “summer rest” - a gentle reminder that healing also happens in moments of pause and stillness.

On pages 28 and 29, we explore how this tradition encourages balance, reflection, and presence during the most expansive season of the year. Through Reiki, we too can embrace this sacred pausefinding peace in simplicity and strength in stillness.

In this issue, you’ll find stories and inspiration to support your practice during the summer months - from seasonal self-care and energy work to personal reflections. We hope this issue brings a refreshing sense of space and ease to your Reiki journey, wherever you are on the path.

Have an idea for an article? The copy deadline for the autumn issue of Reiki World is 15th August 2025. Please send high resolution images as attachments, to accompany your article, and please make sure you have permission from anyone featured.
