Dr. Alexander J. Chandler arrived in the Valley in 1887 and pictured a cutting-edge city where Chandler now sits today. He saw land that held great potential and a surrounding desert that boasted unimaginable beauty. Utilizing the existing canal system of the Native Americans as a blueprint, Dr. Chandler created one of the most advanced irrigation systems in the country, converting the dry desert into farmable land. Water came from both the Salt River and an untapped resource, ground water, which brought new life to the desert. On May 17, 1912, the Town of Chandler was founded. Today Chandler, Arizona is still on the cutting edge. Dr. Chandler's vision of creating a diverse city with a high quality of life has been realized, becoming one of the leaders in the computer technology field. Chandler is a city of continuous growth and evolution offering a wide range of recreational and entertainment options from usual to unusual. With its eclectic mix of community, history, indoor/outdoor recreation and relaxation, Chandler is where trips feel more like vacations.

Center for the Arts
The Chandler Center for the Arts is a world-class performing arts venue located in the heart of Downtown Chandler. It showcases some of today’s most talented performers and artwork from local and national artists. The unique design of the facility, featuring a “turntable divisible” auditorium system, allows two sections of seating in the rear of the main auditorium to rotate 180 degrees to face two more intimate stages. Walls move with the seating areas to prevent sound interference so that three events can run simultaneously. In fact, the hallmark of the complex is its superb acoustics. The Chandler Center for the Arts is ideally situated at the major intersection of Chandler Boulevard and Arizona Avenue, at the north end of downtown Chandler. Location: 250 N. Dec. 5, 2009 Tumbleweed Tree Lighting & Parade of Lights A holiday favorite. This event includes the lighting of the famous tumbleweed tree and a colorful parade down Arizona Avenue. Sponsored by the City of Chandler.
Jan. 16-17, 2010 Multicultural Festival/Feis in the Desert The festival, sponsored by the City of Chandler, features musical performances, visual art demonstrations, dance troupes and storytellers representing cultures from near and far. It is coupled with The Feis, an Irish dancing competition. Feb. 27, 2010 Classic Car & Hot Rod Show An annual event which benefits local charities. The show highlights pre-1980 cars and hot rods and typically some recent purchases from the Barrett-Jackson Auction. There is plenty of food and entertainment. Mar. 6, 2010 Ostrich Festival Parade The official kick-off to the Annual Ostrich Festival, the parade through Historic Downtown Chandler has floats and marching bands. The Chandler Chamber of Commerce, the parade sponsor, oversees the festival held in Tumbleweed Park. Mar. 17, 2010 St. Patrick’s Day Festival One of the biggest parties in town, young and old fill the streets for an evening of entertainment and merry-making that brings out the Irish in all of us. Mar. 26-27, 2010 Chandler Jazz Festival Bourbon Street comes to downtown Chandler with this jazz-filled weekend, highlighting local and national bands in the stores, restaurants, streets and park, and everywhere in between. April 23-25, 2010 Chandler Birthday Celebration This City-sponsored weekend of activities, including the Pioneer Luncheon, celebrates Chandler’s birthday — and is leading up to the big 100-year celebration in 2012. May 28, 2010 Movie Night Sponsored by the Downtown Chandler Community Partnership, the annual event typically has a theme and provides a great excuse for youngsters to dress up. The evening culminates with a movie in Dr. A.J. Chandler Park. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs. June 19, 2010 Summer Splash Water slides, carnival games, food and fun are the hallmarks of this annual event in Dr. A.J. Chandler Park. It’s the best place in town to beat the triple-digit heat. Paseo Trail Trail begins at Galveston St. and continues through Riggs Road, 480.782.2727 The 6.5-mile Paseo Trail features a 10-foot-wide concrete multi-use pathway on the eastern side of the Consolidated Canal in east Chandler. The western side of the canal is an unimproved dirt surface that can be used for horseback riding or bicycling. The Paseo Trail is very popular with walkers, joggers, strollerpushers, bicyclists, and even horseback riders on the west side of the canal. A primary purpose of the facility is to recharge reclaimed water into the ground for later use.
