Climbed the Shepherd’s Steps to the clifftop, took a seat on the basalt throne and looked out over the stepping stones that disappear into the sea.

Legend has it that here, Scottish giant Benandonner threw down the gauntlet and laid claim to the island of Ireland.

This enraged Irish giant Finn MacCool who responded by throwing boulders off the Antrim coast into the sea. But his anger soon turned to inspiration when he realised the boulders could create a causeway; a bridge across the water to the Isle of Staffa where he could challenge his enemy to a fight.
