Hyland Hills Parks & Recreation Spring/Summer 2023 Activities Guide

Page 1

Spring and Summertime Fun is Here…Let’s Recreate!

The spring and summer seasons are especially busy and a highly anticipated time for Hyland Hills because the mostly beautiful Colorado weather allows for a wide array of outdoor recreation and fun! Please take a moment to browse this Activities Guide and sign up early for the programs that fit your family, because many do fill up quickly. Spring and summer leagues and programming put together by the recreation/athletic staff include youth baseball and softball, pickleball, flag football, sand volleyball, SilverSneakers and other personal fitness challenges at FIT by Hyland Hills, just to name a few. Special events include the Hyland Hills Easter Egg Hunt in April, Kite Festival in May, Fishing Derby and Missoula Children’s Theatre in June, and Wonderful Wednesday concerts throughout the year. Clear Creek Valley Park will be the site for the 2nd annual summer concert series as well, continuing to become the area’s premier regional gathering spot for team sports, trails, imagination playground, outdoor workout arena and the community gardens.

The District’s two newest projects, the Cottonwood Lodge and the Hyland Hills Sports Center are on track to become important community meeting places long into the future. We look forward to seeing you soon at the Cottonwood Lodge, enjoying the delicious new menu items there, and later in 2023, at the Hyland Hills Sports Center, where gymnasts and other athletes will be enjoying their new facility and equipment, and where many community activities will be taking place.

Adventure Golf & Raceway is literally in full swing, and Water World opens on Memorial Day weekend. I would personally like to thank all the young people who applied for work at these two popular seasonal attractions. To those who were hired, we welcome you and wish you much success, especially if this is your first job. Hiring continues in other areas of the District as well, so please go to the website if you are seeking employment.

Importantly, you will also note in the news section of this Activities Guide that Hyland Hills is in the process of developing a new strategic plan to give us a clear understanding of the specific future needs and goals of the District. The result will be a plan that will provide a structured and clear path for the future of Hyland Hills Park and Recreation District. We look forward to your input and involvement in the process and we will be sharing what we learn with you on the District website along the way.

Finally, as your experts in fun and recreation, the Hyland Hills Board of Directors, staff, and I sincerely thank you for your support and allowing us to serve this vibrant community…and we invite you to please come and recreate with us this season!

This includes over 126,000 residents of both entities. The agreement makes current resident use of facilities virtually interchangeable. LEARN-TO-SWIM PROGRAM #107411

Since 1999, the Hyland Hills Foundation has been funding FREE swim lessons for all elementary-aged kids who live within the Hyland Hills District. The “Be-A-Fish” Learn-To-Swim Program consists of a two-week course of daily, half-hour swim lessons given by trained lifeguards from Water World during the summer season at any one of the Hyland Hills two outdoor pools: Carroll Butts Aquatic Center, or Splashland Aquatics Center.

The Foundation fundraises throughout the year to fund the “Be-A-Fish” Learn-to-Swim Program and other recreation scholarships that are granted. We hope all children will learn water safety and develop a passion for swimming that will last a lifetime.

All swim lesson participants will be invited to participate in this year’s special event at Water World for the World’s Largest Swim Lesson on June 22nd!

Hyland Hills Has a NEW LOOK!

After more than twenty years, Hyland Hills Park and Recreation District has undergone a rebranding process, and we are proud to share our new look and logo with you in this Activities Guide! This will be an ongoing process due to the sheer number of facilities in the Hyland Hills family, and the expected rollout will take time to complete.

Our Strategy for Continued Success Includes You!

Hyland Hills Park & Recreation District has launched a process to implement a Strategic Plan. The Strategic Plan aims to provide a clear vision, goals, strategy and work plan for the future of the District. It is a comprehensive tool that establishes a road map with priorities to achieve over the next 10+ years. The District’s programs and facilities will be analyzed in depth to determine whether the District is meeting the community’s recreational needs. Aging infrastructure at parks and facilities will also be evaluated. A high level of innovative, engaging public involvement throughout the entire project is expected. Updates to the Strategic Plan, and how residents can participate, can be found at the District’s website: hylandhills.org

Global Clean Up in Parks on Saturday, April 22

As a celebration of Earth Day, Waste Management is sponsoring “The Great Global Clean Up”. With the help and volunteer coordination of the City of Westminster, several Hyland Hills parks will benefit from volunteers sprucing up Clear Creek Valley Park, Carroll Butts Park, Valley View, Bell Roth, Sports Complex, Carstens and Camenisch Park. So, when you see the orange trash bags in the parks that day, you’ll know what’s going on! Our thanks and gratitude to all the volunteers!

Hyland Hills Foundation

... CARES ABOUT KIDS!

For more than 30 years, the Hyland Hills Foundation has raised money to support recreation and cultural opportunities for kids in the community. One-hundred percent of all funds raised are used to help young people experience and reap the benefits of recreational activity and sportsmanship. Toward this goal, funds raised are used for recreational grants to ensure that no child gets turned away due to their family’s financial circumstance.

Since its inception in 1992, the Hyland Hills Foundation has granted more than $1 million in recreational grants. Over that time period, the Foundation’s work has enabled thousands of low-income kids to enjoy a myriad of sports activities. Additionally, a signature endeavor of the Foundation is funding the “Be-A-Fish Learn to Swim Program,” which has provided more than 12,000 local kids the confidence and life-saving skill of swimming.

Thanks to a generous donation from the City of Federal Heights, all recreation programs offered by the Hyland Hills Park and Recreation District are FREE for a limited time to anyone under 18 who lives in Federal Heights! Simply visit one of our registration sites (page 2) with proof of residency, such as a water bill, to get started.

If you don’t live in Federal Heights, many of the programs in this Activities Guide qualify for Foundation grants. Please see page 40 for details!

This tournament is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Hyland Hills Foundation, and we hope you will consider participating as a player or as a sponsor! It is well known for its great location, great food and great fun.

MULTIPLE SUMMITS 4 MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS: COMMUNITY FLAT 14ER

Back in 2010, several enterprising volunteers put their love of hiking Colorado’s famous 14,000-foot peaks and their desire to support the Rocky Mountain MS Center together, kicking off the first Multiple Summits 4 Multiple Sclerosis (MS4MS), an event that’s seen thousands of hikers head into Colorado’s mountains every year since. Looking for a way to make their hiking-focused event accessible to everyone in our MS community, they decided to turn one of Colorado’s famous 14,000-foot peaks on its side, and the “Flat 14er” was born!

You’re invited to join the Rocky Mountain MS Center on Saturday morning, June 10, for the first community-wide Flat 14er. We’ll head out on a 14,000-foot hike on an accessible, paved course open to anyone and everyone. All registrants joining the fun will receive a goodie bag and access to their own personal fundraising website to spread the word and help this truly one-of-a-kind “Colorado” fundraiser in support of the Rocky Mountain MS Center.
