INTRODUCTION At the beginning of the semester, class of Design Research Studio 3 (SRA 3) has asked us to do a lot of research about ideal and new innovative vertical homes in this pandemic situation. And then we are guided to design a new vertical homes from the data and understanding in site planning, which is located in Grogol near UNTAR University. This book will be filled with research, precedent studies, massing studies, typology studies, and the final design & concept of the vertical home.

The conclusion will be talking about the importance of interactivity between communal and units in a co-living space, especially when they are placed vertically.

HEALTH PROTOCOL RESEARCH These days, we are being faced by pandemic covid 19. And this situation has affected our life a lot, including how building spaces is being uesd and created. Thus for the health of our own, we need to maintain our things in order to stay healthy.

CHANGES THAT ARE MADE ON ARCHITECTURAL ELEMENTS There are a few changes made because of the pandemic. It is either in their lifestyle, what they use, until how their living place condition looks like. These are some examples:

on some public spaces like hotel or apartments, there were no treshold space in front of the door. Now it is recommended to have a treshold space in order to maintain distance.

WORKING SPACE RESEARCH In a working space there will always be standards of good and bad spaces. Whilst remembering our current situation, this research will discuss about some relation between a quality of a working space and the after effects of covid-19 pandemic.

The size of the room will affect the amount of chair that are being used as well as the distance from each other. Therefore, less people will be in these rooms as well to minimize the covis-19 contamination.

Co- housing or Co-living? Based on the definition and data, the most suitable type of the lowe income matter is the Co-living type.

This data shows the low income of the people around 2030 years old, and this is a problem to nowdays housing that has become expensive.

LOCATION: cities it is said to be places normally in the middle of a crowded city, therefore it is suitable for nowdays situation.

DEMOGRAPHIC: usually used by young couples, young family, people from the age between 20-30 years old

RESEARCH: COMMUNITY LIVING The main concept in co-living spaces are they have a space called ‘shared space’ where everyone in the house can use those specific places, such as: living room

From the previous disadvantage of NOISE and WASTED CORRIDOR, here are some hypotesis of hoe to finish the problem.

The noise can be reduced by using nature elements while the wasted corridors can just be erased and changed into a more useful space

This study results that it’s best if the communal space is placed in the middle on the room between the unit area. Even if there are two storey, it must still be in the same area vertically as well, so all of the noise can be focused in this area.

This typology study results that it’s best if the nature green area is placed in the middle of the noise source which is the communal area. So the noise will be reduced directly from the source instead of behing reduced from the sides. While the water elemen will be put outside the house to maintain the noise from outside.

In the final prototype, it is chosen because the communal area that are focused well on one tower / area. Meanwhile the resident tower is just beside it, giving it near access from public to the living space. Also this way, the oise creating will be focused on each tower only and not disturb the other towers.

FLOOR PLAN OF UNIT TYPES

We can see from the floor plan that some units are 2 storeys. And each level of the storeys has their own shared space, from the shared space they can venture to other levels that also has communal areas. This shows the interactivity between levels.

Second, the amount of units for individuals compared with family are on the same amount which is 12. This is because to make equal use of the community that is about to grow. The families can become a second family to the individuals and the individuals can become a aprt of the other family. This will shows a strong bond between each other and increase the comfort in living on this vertical co-living building.

DESIGN SOLUTIONS FROM THE PREVIOUS ISSUE IN THE BUILDING NATURE ELEMENT: GREEN AND POND TO REDUCE AND CONTROL NOISE SOURCE

GREEN ELEMENT IMPLEMENTATION on communal and each unit level The green garden is mainly being put on the first floor as the main communal space and also the main source of noise. It is also being put on the very rooftop because it also has a quite big communal area. Other than that, it is being put on each balcony in every unit, this will give peace and calm while also reducing noise from outside towards the units.

INTERACTIVITY BETWEEN LEVELS OF COMMUNAL AND LIVING SPACE This section shows that people can connect from each level directly. either visually nor physically. This way, the interactivity between communal and private space, and between levels are created significantly, while also keeping the security and comfort of the living area from all of the noise and random people.

surrounding the building The pond itself, surrounds the site, creating a protection gesture from the outside people from approaching randomly to the living area. This way also helps control the noise source into just one point of entrance. This reduces the difficulty to control the crowd noise that are coming from the guests nor the occupants of the living units.

SITE ANALYSIS - MASS CREATION SEQUENTIAL PROCESS OF DESIGN

SUN - ORIENTATION & SHELTER Building mass is designed to face the opposite direction of the sun, so shadings can be created at the front part of the building. Therefore, this shading will create a chilling outdoor space.

BEST VIEW East, West, and Southwest are the best view direction for both public communal area and private unit area.

ATTRACTIVE VIEW Those 3 angles are also able to be used to attract people from the crowded side where there are a lot of people that could see the activities in the building and feel attracted to visit.

SHOPHOUSE AREA (BACK) Can be used as a cluster of shops and retails by adding another shopping area in the site.

OPEN AREA (FRONT) Can be used as an open communal area with a view to the open spaace towards the highway, creating a comfortable and freedom atmosphere to each of the visitor of the site.

STRATEGIC AREA - SHORTCUT To support the user near the sites, which there are university and offices. Therefore access are made by substracting a form to create a pathway for pedestrians.

EXTRUSIONS AND FORM CLEARANCE

MASS FORM (CLEARANCE) THe organic mass from the previous step are changed into a clearer geometry which is circles that are then connects to each other, creating a bigger form.

JPO & PEDESTRIAN CIRCULATORY Existing JPO and placement of the site between another site, are used to create circulation for pedestrian and push them to walk more instead of using their vehicles. The previous shape are also extruded to create a podium space that are filled with retails and communal areas, such as coworking space.

VEHICLE CIRCULATORY (MINIM) Such little space are created to enspecialized in vehicle use, therefore pushing users to use bicycle, public transportations, nor walking, as the options to visit the building rather than using personal vehicles.

BEST VIEW UNIT (ORIENTATION) In order to create comfort and aesthetics for the user of the apartment, the building is oriented toward the open highway direction. This is done to prepare the best view of the site along with the view of Jakarta’s skyline.

NATURE BUFFER CONCEPTS GREEN BUFFER The city crowds and the large use of vehicles in the area creates a lot of air pollution, impacting the comfort and health of the users in the site.

GREEN SITE AND GREEN SURROUNDS Many type of trees are planted around the building and inside the building itself, especially the garden inside the podium as a garthering place. These greens provide comfort by giving green views that results in refreshing and aeshtetic feeling. Repairing the mental health of the people that walks around the site.

NATURE BUFFER - FRESH AIR To maintain the quality of the air and sound of the site, nature buffer is created by the process of: Noisy sound and dirty air pass through and diltered by the trees and fountain, thus creates a new clean fresh air. SHADING FROM BALCONY The variety of unit extrusion creates a different placement of balcony that creates a natural shading for some of the units that are placed below the units with longer balcony. This concept also works for the public shared space, midle area where people can enjoy chatting while get enough shading each floor that also works as a balcony.

LIGHTING CONCEPT - SUNKEN AREA A large opening are created by the floor that are being sinked and high ceiling on that floor, making the lightings freely enter the space. Creating a lively environment for all the users, either its public users nor the unit users. Natural lighting that enters this area are also supported by other type of openings on the walls that creates even more entrance for the light to shine through each comunal spaces.

SHADING IS MADE FOR 2 FLOORS The large opening on the shared space is provided with shading that is created from perforated alumunium to still let the sunshine pass through into the building, giving comfort to the residents.

LARGE BUILDING AIR CIRCULATORY To reduce the use of energy in cooling the air using air conditioner (AC) and change it with the use of natural air as a air cooler source. Whilst also keeping the wind current go through and not heavily push the building off.

STRUCTURAL BEAMS TYPICAL UNIT, EVEN LEVEL The strucure on each floor is adjusted with the column grid that hav been created first along with the core. Then the main beam will be placed mostly along those columns while smaller beams are placed in between them and areound the balcony structure.

3 BUILDING CORE PLACED ON CRUCIAL SPOTS The core is adjusted with the available space and columns that are placed. No shear wall is needed for the core itself is enough to hold the building up

FREESTANDING COLUMN WITH BIGGER SIZE THAN THE OTHER COLUMNS Most of the columns on the building has lengths of 50 x 50 cm. While these columns’ lengths are 90 x 90 cm. This is done because there are no beams for a few levels so it needs an extra structure to prevent buckling on the building.

The rainwater harvesting system itself is used to fulfit the small needs of clean water such as garden watering, and toilet flush throughout the resident units and public places.

CLEAN WATER With the usage of 1 inch pipe size along with the gravity use to deliver clean water that are transferred from the roof tank. the source of the clean water itself is from PDAM that are pumped by jet booster to the roof.

Microly using looping system to keep the pressure on each tab stable

GREY WATER Using an 1.5 inch pipe to tranfer the waste water from the sink , and washing area into the STP that are place on the east part of the basement.

The pipe also uses a slop of 2 °, to easen the transfer using gravitation

BLACK WATER Uses a 4 inch pipe for the child pipe that are directly in contact with the toilet, then gathered in one big pipe with a size of 5 inch to increase the flexibility amount of waste.

Later the waste are put into the sump pit and STP to be proceeded until it can be thrown away safely.
