My heart is filled with profound gratitude as I reflect on the last four years, and collectively, the last eight years in serving our Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Movement as the 7th President of the National Executive Committee / Ban Chấp Hành Trung Ương (BCHTU). When I accepted the call to serve eight years ago, I did so with humility and with deep appreciation for those who came before me. Our predecessors faithfullylaidthefoundationofourMovement.Throughtheir sacrifices, leadership, vision, and dedication, they built our Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Movement (VEYM) “home”, figuratively and literally (our headquarters building in which wenowgather).Theycreatedafoundationforustothriveand grow. Every accomplishment, every milestone, and every life touchedbytheministryofVEYMisatestimonytoGod’sgrace workingthrougheachandeveryoneofyouwhoansweredthe calltoserve.
From the beginning of this term, BCHTU focused on three guidingpriorities:First,toenrichourspirituallivesthrough intentionalspiritualinitiatives,andtofosteraccompaniment andcollaborationwithourLeaguesofChaptersandChapters. Second,tostrengthenourservantleaderswithpracticalskills through spiritual and natural (siên nhiên và tự nhiên) training approaches needed for effective chapter management and leadership. Third, to deepen our communionwiththeVietnameseAmericanfaithcommunity, to local church, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops(USCCB),ourinternationalVEYMbrothersandsisters, andthePopeWorldwidePrayerNetwork(PWPN).
First, to enrich our spiritual lives through intentional spiritual initiatives, and to foster accompaniment and collaborationwithourLeaguesofChaptersandChapters.
Beforeanythingelse,wemustbecognizantthatourVEYM ministryflowsfromourrelationshipwithChrist.Wecannot givewhatwedonothave.BeforewebringChristtoothers,we mustfirstallowChristtobewithinusandtransformourown hearts.Jesusremindsus:“Remaininme,asIremaininyou. Justasabranchcannotbearfruitonitsownunlessitremains onthevine.”(John15:4)Forthisreason,spiritualenrichment remained at the heart of this BCHTU. Through our annual OctoberRosaryCampaign,theLentenStationsoftheCross, hymnreflectionsandprayerhour,wecreatedopportunities for our hundreds and hundreds to gather in prayer and worship.Thesewerenotsimplyactivities.Theyweremoments of encounter. They were opportunities to deepen our relationship with God and Mary. A hallmark of these gatheringsisthatithasbecomeatraditionforcommunal prayergatheringwhereall12LeaguesofChaptersandtheir membersactivelyleadthesespiritualinitiatives.
BCHTUlaunchedtheannualservantleaderspiritualretreat, Tabor,oneofthegreatestblessingsofoverthelasteightyears. Taborbecameasacredspacewhereournationalleaderscan truly step away from the demands of routine ministry activities, enter into prayer, and allow God to renew their hearts. Through reflection, fellowship, and encounter with Christ, Tabor nourished our souls and reminded us of a fundamentaltruth:Wecannotpouroutwhathasnotfirst been filled within us. Our service must come not from exhaustion, obligation, or human effort alone, but from a heartthathasfirstbeenfilledbyGod’slove.Becausewhen Christfillsus,Heequipsustoserveothers.
To journey and accompany our youth members, BCHTU soughtjoyfulwaystostrengthenandcelebrateourCatholic identity.TheannualHoly-WeenCostumeContestbecamea highlightedopportunitytokeepouryouthmembersrootedin faith,andtointroduceouryoungpeopletothelivesofthe saints,theirlivedvirtues,andconnectwiththeminpractical ways.Throughthiscelebration,ourmembersarereminded that holiness is not something distant or impossible. The saintswereordinarypeoplewhosaidyestoGod.Theywere peoplewhotrustedHim,followedHim,andallowedHimto work through their lives. By celebrating the saints, we encouragedouryouthmemberstorecognizethattheytooare calledtobecomesaints.
In the last four years, it has been important for BCHTU to promotefaithinawaythatisseeninaction.Faithcallsusnot only to proclaim the Gospel but to live it through acts of love and mercy. BCHTU continued to respond to Christ’s call to serve the poor, the vulnerable, and those who need hope. ThroughourannualGivingTuesdaycharitablecampaign,our members demonstrated extraordinary generosity and compassion. Over the past eight years, we have raised nearly $200,000, with 100% directly benefiting charitable causes servingchildrenandfamiliesinneed.Theseeffortssupported many communities and organizations, including Catholic Charities, Catholic Relief Services, suicide prevention organizations, VEYM families experiencing hardship, and communities affected by disasters and poverty. Our charitable outreach extended beyond our borders as we supported children in Kontum, Vietnam, assisted flood victims in Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, and Ecuador. WeprovidedsupportforpoorchildreninHaitiandSudanand contributedtoPapalCharitiesandotherhumanitarianefforts throughout the world. But these efforts were never about numbersalone.Behindeverydonationwasapersonchoosing tobecomethehandsandfeetofChrist.Behindeveryoutreach was a reminder that the Church is alive when we serve those mostinneed.AsScriptureremindsus:“Letuslovenotinword orspeechbutindeedandtruth.”(1John3:18).
BCHTU wanted our Movement to reach outward and bring others closer to Christ. In addition to the Giving Tuesday highlighted above, our National Day of Apostolic Work allowed opportunity for us to challenged ourselves to cross our boundaries and encounter Christ among the marginalized, the forgotten, and those most in need. Jesus reminds us: “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothersandsistersofmine,youdidforme.”(Matthew25:40) Through countless hours serving at soup kitchens, singing at nursinghomes,packingatfoodpantries,prayingfordeparted souls at cemeteries, or cleaning up dirty neighborhoods, this initiativeremindedusthatevangelizationrequiresmovement and courage. It requires us to leave our comfort zones and bringtheloveofChristwhereverHecallsus.
Beinginthedigitalage,BCHTUadaptedourevangelization effortsthroughdigitalcommunicationandsocialmedia.Our HướngTâmLênnewsletterbecameameaningfulavenueto sharestoriesoffaith,formation,service,andthelifeofour Movement. The VEYM News Channel was established to strengthencommunication,creativeevangelization,connect membersacrossregions,andsharetheblessingsandactivities taking place throughout VEYM. I’d be remised to not give praisetothemanymusicalpresentationsandsongstogive glory to God and our faith. Through these efforts and the manyhelpinghandsbehindthescenesdaily(singers,anchors, editors,scriptwriters,etc.),wesoughttoensurethatmembers areconnectedandjoyfulfruitsofourMovementcontinueto beshared.
Throughthesocialmediaplatformsabove,BCHTUcontinued to strengthen our vocation promotion efforts, encouraging ourmemberstolistenprayerfullytoGod’scall.Whetherthat callistopriesthood,religiouslife,marriage,singlelife,oras VEYM youth leaders, every vocation is a response to God’s invitationtoloveandserve.ItisnoaccidentthatVEYMinthe US continues to be one of the cradles for vocation in the religiouslifeandmarriagelife.
BCHTU is blessed to have expanded the Information Technology Team to support the multifaced aspects of our Movement.AtthestartoftheBCHTU’sterm,theteamwas entrustedwiththreekeygoals;todevelopandmembership management portal, enhance our VEYM webpage, and to streamline our HT/HLV/TT promotions online. The team started with one person and grew over the years to an equivalent corporate IT department with specialists and interns.Theyworkedtirelesslytomodernizeandstrengthen ourdigitalfoundation.TheITteamstreamlinedourwebsite, establishedthemembershipportal,improvedemailsystems, andprovidedcountlesssolutionstosupporttheneedsofour Movementacrossalllocal,regional,andnationalevents.Their workwasnotalwaysvisibleorperceivedasfaith-related,but itsimpacthastouchedeveryaspectofourministryandevery member.AsSaintPaulremindsus:“Therearedifferentkinds ofgifts,butthesameSpiritdistributesthem.”(1Corinthians 12:4)EverygiftofferedinlovebecomespartofGod’sgreater work,justastheworkofSt.CarloAcutis,theITTeam’spatron saint, and his website showcasing Eucharistic miracles, beautifulworksoflove.
Onthesametoken,ourGraphicTeam,bornoutofaneedto bolster our evangelization effort through digital arts and creativity,theirbeautifulcreationhelpedussharetheidentity and spirit of VEYM. More importantly, they heighten our contemplativemindstoreflect,discernanddivedeeperinto themessageofGod’slovethroughtheirartwork.
BCHTU remained steadfast in implementing our national membershipduesresponsibility.Whilethisrequiredpatience, education, and perseverance, we believed it was essential to strengthening accountability, stewardship, and shared responsibilitythroughoutourMovement.Today,we’reblessed to report a 99% compliance rate. This achievement is the product of our collective effort in journeying and unifying. This is not simply a number; to reach this level requires laborious work and persistency in following up, it also represents the commitment of every member and every chaptertoinvestinoursharedmission.
“Now it is of course required of stewards that they be found trustworthy.” (1 Corinthians 4:2) Through this collective responsibility of fulfilling our membership dues, VEYM has been better equipped to support national training camps, congresses, conventions, retreats, and competitions. At the LeagueofChapterslevel,theresourcesweremadeavailableto supportLeagueofChaptersleveltrainingcampsandretreats. local VEYM ministry activities. At the chapter level, accompanyingyouthmembershavealwaysbeenatthecenter ofourmission.
WebelievethateveryyoungpersonisagiftfromGodanda futureleaderoftheChurch.Throughscholarships,prizes,and awards,wesoughttoremovebarriersthatmightpreventour youthmembersandyouthleadersfromfullyparticipatingin thelifeandformationofVEYM.AhallmarkofthisBCHTUis theaccompanimentandministryofpresencewithouryouth leaders,chapters,andLeaguesofChapters.Whetheritbea HLVpromotion,achaptermilestoneanniversary,aLeagueof Chapters convention, League of Chapters anniversary, nationalcongresses,internationalgatherings,restassured thatmembersofBCHTUthroughtheministryofpresencewill be there with a congratulatory plaque (depending on the event)tojoininprayerandcelebration.Todate,BCHTUhas madeover300visitsoverthelast8years.We#offeritupto Godinprayerforourmemberswithhopethatourmembers willcometoknowthattheyareknown,seen,valued,and loved.They’remembersofthismassiveVEYMfamily.
Toprotectouryouthmembersandupholdthewaysinwhich youth leaders carry themselves, BCHTU implemented the VEYMCodeofConducttoprovideaclearframeworkrootedin ourCatholicidentity,respect,integrity,responsibility,and servantleadership.
While a uniform is a visible symbol, its deeper meaning reminds us that we belong to something greater than ourselves.Itrepresentsoursharedidentity,ourmission,and ourcommitmenttoservetogether.Effortsareunderwayto streamlineouruniformrequirementstostrengthenunityand consistencythroughouttheMovement.
As approved by the National Leadership Council, and in collaborationwiththeNationalAcademicCommittee/Ban NghiênHuấnTrungƯơng(BNHTU),BCHTUimplementedthe grandfather certification process, honoring the dedication andserviceoflong-standingmemberswhilemaintainingthe integrity and standards of our youth leader formation pathway. These efforts were not simply administrative improvements;theywerealsoactsofstewardshippastoral response.
Second,tostrengthenourservantleaderswithpractical skillsthroughspiritualandnatural(siêunhiênvàtựnhiên) training approaches needed for effective chapter managementandleadership.
ThefutureofVEYMdependsnotsimplyonhavingmore activities,butonformingyouthleaderswhounderstandwhy weserveandwhosemissionwecarry.ChristHimselfgaveus themodel:“Whoeverwantstobecomegreatamongyoumust beyourservant.”(Matthew20:26)LeadershipinVEYMisnot aboutrecognition.Itisaboutservice.Itisaboutwashingfeet ofotherssothatothersmayencounterChrist.Forthisreason, BCHTUandcollaborationwithBNHTUinvestedsignificant effortintostrengtheningourtrainingcamps.Throughthe annualTiberiaServantLeaderTrainingCamps(attimestwice ayeartomeettherisingdemands),theSinaiYouthLeader Trainer Training Camps, Joshua – Youth Leader Congress, Sinai – Youth Leader Trainers Congress. Through these encounters,participantsreturnedtotheirchaptersrenewed, inspired,andbetterpreparedtoserve.
A high functioning VEYM requires inspired hearts, but it also requires structures, processes, and procedures that allow those hearts to lead and serve effectively. To promote unity and consistency across VEYM, BCHTU solicited help from BNHTU to develop the Maisen Course. This initiative established a shared foundation in administrative roles and responsibilities of all Executive Committee members. It ensures that future youth leaders throughout VEYM are formed with the same vision, values, and process. Since its historical first implementation, the course now in its 4 implementation cycle proved to be critical and vital to the day-to-day management of each chapter. It has since been a requirement for all Executive Committee members to be Maisen certified to elevate VEYM to the next level of leadership duties and responsibilities. Attendees recognized the important of understanding why they serve, equally important to understand the “what” and the “how” to lead and serve. Many participants saw the value in standardizing our administrative roles, and that these experiences became transformativemomentsintheirleadershipjourney.
HistorywasmadeagainwhenBCHTUlauncheditsfirst-ever NationalStudentCurriculumTournament.Thisinitiativewas created to inspire active learning, deepen faith understanding,andencourageouryouthmemberstolearn, havefun,andlivetheirfaithbeyondtheclassroom.Morethan acompetition,thisgatheringbecameacelebrationoffaith, knowledge,fellowship,andunity.Itbroughttogetheryouth membersfromacrossVEYMandcreatedrenewedexcitement forlearningandgrowingtogether.Ithasbeenablessingto witness the momentum this initiative has gained and the enthusiasmitcontinuestoinspirethroughoutourMovement. AtthisveryJoshuaandSinaicongress,you’llwitnessforthe first time a Huynh Trưởng National Student Curriculum Tournament, and together, we’ll crown the one national champion.
BCHTU continued the diligent work to strengthen the consistency and integrity of our promotion process. The processing of promotional requests was a monumental responsibilitywithcountlesshours,carefuldiscernment,and meticulousattentiontodetail.Weconductedorientationsfor Camp Masters and Assistant Camp Masters to establish greater consistency in training approaches across our Movement,aswellasfollowingupwithtrainingcampreports and evaluations. In creating a shared vision and common foundation,tosomedegree,weasaVEYMstrengthenedthe quality of our training camps and ensured that our youth leadersreceivetrainingexperiencerootedinthemissionand spiritualityofVEYM.TheHLVandSinaiReviewBoardwas established to ensure that candidates receive proper accompaniment throughout their journey and that those entering training camps are spiritually, emotionally, and intellectuallyprepared.Ourgoalwasneversimplytoprepare people to complete a training camp. Our goal has been to preparedisciplesandtoaccompanythemastheyservethe VEYM.
WithGod’sgrace,ourlaboryieldedmuchfruits.Aresearchby theCenterforAppliedResearchintheApostolateinvestigated howVEYMaffectsthefaithlifeandvocationaldiscernmentof participatingyouthproducedfavorableoutcomes.Conducted bySr.ThuT.Do,LHC,Ph.D.,theresultshighlightedthosewho activelyserveintheVEYMaremorelikelytohavestronger faithamongmanyotherpositivefaithlivingattributes.What ablessing!
Wonders of the Mass Wonders of the Mass
The Wonders of the Mass, Wonders of Adorations, and Nghiem Tap were also instrumental projects from BNHTU to help our youth members deepen their understanding and appreciation of the Holy Eucharist and rediscover the beauty of the greatest prayer of the Church. These were widely disseminated and promoted to enrich the faith of our members.
Third, to deepen our communion with the Vietnamese American faith community, to local church, the United Conference of Catholic Bishops, our international VEYM brothers and sisters, and the Pope Worldwide Prayer Network.
OneofthedefiningmomentsofthisBCHTUwastheComing tothePromisedLand7NationalConvention(VDH7),wherewe joyfullycelebratedthehistoric40thAnniversaryofVEYM.It was a blessed moment of thanksgiving and a moment to celebratewhereGodhasbroughtus,andamomenttolook with hope toward where He continues to lead us. The gatheringbroughttogethermorethan1,200youthleaders, TrợTá,TrợÚy,TuyênÚy,andmembersfromacrossVEYM.We wereblessedbythepresenceofmorethan40priestsfrom Vietnam,60priestsandreligiousfromtheUnitedStates,4 bishops(BishopNhànTrần,BishopCườngPhạm,BishopEric Pohlmeier,andArchbishopTimothyBroglio,thePresidentof the USCCB), and dynamic speakers who inspired us to continuelivingourmissionwithrenewedpassion.Itwasa beautifulreminderthatGodhasbeenfaithfulthroughoutour history.Hewaswithusinthebeginning.Heiswithustoday. AndHewillcontinuetoguideusintothefuture.
Along the theme of unity and evangelization, BCHTU made the historic move to call attention to the vocation of Trợ Tá, an often-misunderstoodvocation,andtoreignitethecallingofTrợ Tá.BCHTUtookaleapoffaithandhostedSamaritanoI,thefirst National Trợ Tá Convention in the history of VEYM. This important gathering convened over 130 Trợ Tá across the country to celebrate their identity as valued member of our VEYM. Our participants were lifted in prayers and in gratitude. They’re reminded of their essential role as witnesses who walk alongside our youth members and youth leaders as they discover Christ. Most importantly, our Trợ Tá were united by invitation to serve and elected our new Trưởng Ban Trợ Tá Trung Ương. Together, our Trợ Tá took on the charge of praying for our deceased members through participation in the VEYM Official Prayer Group on Facebook; leading the March for Life event in Washington DC and across the country to defend life; and cultivating faith-connections at Đại Hội Thánh Mẫu and otherreligious đạihộiacrossthecountry.VEYMministryacross the Chapters, Leagues of Chapters, and national were also charged with the intentional inclusion of Trợ Tá in their ministryplanning.BysupportingandstrengtheningourTrợ Tá, westrengthentheentireMovement.
United with the local church and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), BCHTU strived toleadourVEYMtonotonlyservewithinthelocalparish buttowalkalongsidetheUSChurch.Throughoutthese years, we continued to build meaningful relationships and collaborate with USCCB, particularly through the Cultural Diversity Committee, especially the Subcommittee on Asian Pacific Islanders Affairs, and the Committee on Evangelization and Catechesis. We participated in and supported major initiatives of the Church, including the International Eucharistic CongressinEcuador,theNationalEucharisticCongress and Journeying Together to deepening our Eucharistic identity and renewing our commitment to placing ChristatthecenterofourMovement.
One of the greatest blessings of this journey has been the accompanimentofourshepherdsintheepiscopacy.Forthefirst time in our history, VEYM was blessed to welcome three Episcopal Advisors into our VEYM family: Most Reverend Larry Silva, Most Reverend John Nhàn Trần, and Most Reverend Thomas Thành Nguyễn. With Bishop Larry Silva concluded his service following retirement, VEYM is blessed to welcome his successor, Most Reverend Michael Thomas Tupou Castori, S.J, continuing this beautiful tradition of episcopal support and accompaniment. What a blessing it has been to experience the Church’s loving presence through our bishops and shepherds. They reminded us that we do not walk this journey alone. Their accompanimentisavisiblesignthatVEYMispartofthegreater missionofChrisentrustedtoHisChurch.
On the international front, BCHTU remained connected with the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network and joining our prayers with the Holy Father’s intentions and reminding our members that our prayers are part of the universal prayer of the Church.
We continue to bridge with our VEYM brothers and sisters across the world in Japan, Australia, France, Canada, and Vietnam. Through collaboration, shared resources, and mutual encouragement, we continue to witness that VEYM is not a collection of separate communities, but one family unitedbyChrist.OurVEYMmissiontranscendsgeography.Of note, BCHTU led our very first virtual Eucharistic Miracles Exhibition with VEYM across the world. In similar fashion, VEYMorganizedourfirstVEYMinternationalgatheringatthe last World Youth Day (WYD) in Lisbon. The gathering brought together over 400 VEYM youth leaders from across the world to pray and journey through WYD together. We look forward to our next WYD in Korea. Truly, our faith and Vietnamese heritageuniteus.
Unity through the Eucharist is our newest imitative to bring our VEYM international together. During this historic VDH7 gathering, BCHTU launched our Eucharistic Adoration Relay with a special monstrance blessed by the late Pope Francis. This initiative became a powerful reminder that Christ must always remain at the center of our Movement. Since then, we have been blessed to commission and dedicate four additional identical monstrance blessed by Pope Leo XIV, allowing our brothers and sisters in Vietnam, Canada, France, Australia, and the United States to remain united in Eucharistic prayer. Through this beautiful devotional practice, VEYM communities around the world are spiritually connected aroundtheBlessedSacrament.AsJesustellsus:“Andbehold,I amwithyoualways,untiltheendoftheage.”(Matthew28:20) Christ has been with us. Christ remains with us. And Christ willcontInuetoleadus.

The People Behind the Mission
Buttheyneverbecamethestoryofourteam.Instead,wechoseto work through them. We chose to have honest conversations. We chosetolisten.Wechosetoassumegoodintentions.Wechoseto extend grace. Looking back now, I am grateful for those moments becausetheytaughtussomethingthatsuccessalonenevercould. Theytaughtushowtotrustoneanothermoredeeply.
SomeofthemomentsItreasuremostwereneveronourmeeting agendas. They happened after the meetings ended. The conversationswherewecheckedinononeanother.Themoments whenwecelebratedanewjob,awedding,anewbaby,oranother milestoneinsomeone’slife.Thetimeswesharedburdensthathad nothingtodowithVEYM.Theprayersweofferedforoneanother.The simplemessagesasking,“Howareyoudoing?”
Those moments reminded me that ministry is never only about accomplishing God’s work. It is also about loving the people God placesbesideuswhiledoingHiswork.
Every meaningful journey eventually reaches a moment when we pause,nottomeasureouraccomplishmentsorcountthemileswe havetraveled,buttogivethanksforthepeoplewhowalkedbesideus. Daybyday,meetingbymeeting,projectbyproject,wesimplykeep movingforward,focusedonthenextdeadline,thenextcampaign,the nextchallenge,andthenextopportunitytoserve.Werarelystoplong enoughtoappreciatejusthowmuchGodisaccomplishingthroughus andwithinus.Itisn’tuntilwepauseandlookbackthatwebeginto seethebiggerpicture.
Today,myheartisfilledwithgratitude.GratitudeforGod’sfaithfulness through every season. Gratitude for the privilege of serving His Church through VEYM. Gratitude for the countless blessings He entrustedtoourteam.Andaboveall,gratitudeforeachoneofyou.
Overthesefouryears,togetherwehavebeenblessedtoaccomplish somuch.Westrengthenedthespirituallifeofourmovementthrough annualnationalspiritualinitiatives,SpiritualBouquetCampaigns,and theWonderoftheMassseriesduringtheNationalEucharisticRevival. WeexpandedVEYMNews,publishedHướngTâmLên,coordinated Giving Tuesday, National Day of Apostolic Works, scholarships, vocationinitiatives,VềĐấtHứaVII,JoshuaandSinaiCongresses, concerts,competitions,culturalcelebrations,andmanyothernational initiatives.Together,wemodernizedVEYMthroughanewwebsite,a new membership platform, improved event registration, streamlined digitalprocesses,andmajortechnologyimprovementsthatwillserve futuregenerationsofleaders.Behindthesemilestoneswerecountless graphics,videos,publications,technicalsupportrequests,newsletters, meetings, and quiet acts of service that often went unseen but touchedthelivesofthousandsofmembersacrossVEYM.
Lookingatthatlisttoday,Ifeelanoverwhelmingsenseofgratitude, notbecauseoftheprojectsthemselves,butbecauseeveryoneof thoseaccomplishmentstellsastoryaboutthepeoplewhomadethem possible.Behindeverysuccessfulinitiativewassomeonewhogave upaneveningafterafulldayofwork.Behindeverydeadlinewas someonechoosingministryovercomfort.Behindeveryeventwasa teamwillingtosacrificetheirweekendssothatotherscouldencounter Christ.Andbehindeverymilestonewasagroupofpeoplewhonever asked,“Whogetsthecredit?”butsimplyasked,“HowcanIhelp?”
Likeeveryteam,ourjourneywasn’tperfect.Thereweremomentsof frustration.Therewerelast-minuterequeststhatstretchedusbeyond what we thought we could give. There were changing priorities, difficult decisions, misunderstandings, and moments when we ourselvesfeltmisunderstood.Thosemomentswerereal.
IfthereisonethingIhopedeachofyouexperiencedduringthesefour years, it is this: that you were appreciated, not only for what you contributed,butforwhoyouare.
Yes,Icareddeeplythatourworkreflectedexcellence.ButIcaredjust asdeeplyabouteachofyou.Ineverwantedtoseeyousimplyasthe personresponsibleforcommunications,technology,liturgy,vocations, socialministry,personnel,events,arts,ordesign.Isawbrothersand sistersinChrist.Peoplewithfamilies,careers,dreams,struggles,and responsibilities beyond VEYM. People carrying burdens that others mightneverknow.Peopleworthyofencouragement,friendship,and prayer.
OneofthegreatestgiftsIreceivedinreturncameduringoneofthe mostdifficultseasonsofmylife.Whenmydadenteredthefinalstage ofhisillness,myheartwastornbetweenministryandfamily.Iwanted tofulfillmyresponsibilities,butIalsoknewthateverymomentwith himwasprecious.
Without hesitation, many of you quietly stepped in. You carried responsibilities that had been mine. You checked in on me. You prayedformyfamily.Youremindedme,throughyouractionsmore thanyourwords,thatpeoplealwayscomebeforeprojects.Iwillnever forgetthat.Yourkindnessgavemethepeacetospendthoseprecious momentswithmydadwithoutworryingaboutthework.Thatwasone ofthegreatestgiftsanyonecouldhavegivenme.
WhenIlookbacknow,Irealizethatwhileweaccomplishedmany wonderfulthingstogether,theprojectsthemselvesareonlypartofour story.Thegreaterblessinghasalwaysbeenthepeople.
Notaskeverfeltimpossiblebecausewehadoneanother.Noseason everfelttoooverwhelmingbecausesomeonewasalwayswillingto step in. No success ever belonged to one person because every accomplishmentwasbuiltonthegenerosityofmany.

Each of you brought unique gifts that helped shape this ministry. Although each of us served in different ways, we shared the same mission. The VEYM News has likely become a familiar monthly event for many members of the Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Movement, airing at 7:00 PM on the first day of each month in recent years. Those who have followed the program since it was first established have undoubtedly witnessed its remarkable growth and transformation: from the content and the length of the programtoitsbroadcastscheduleandthemanyfacesofthenews anchors. Today, the VEYM News team invites you to look back on thesixyearsofaccompanyingandservingVEYM.
In early 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic became a global crisis, the activities of the VEYM were significantly affected. Wanting to keep the spirit of VEYM alive and help members navigate the challenges of such difficult time, the National Executive Committee launched a variety of virtual initiatives, including Webinars and Workshops, prayer services for members across the United States and members of the International VEYM, as well as special virtual concerts celebrating Mother's Day, Father's Day, andotheroccasions.
Building upon this foundation of virtual ministry, and with the desire to deliver important news and events within VEYM-USA to members in a timely and engaging manner, the National Information Technology Committee collaborated with the NationalCommunicationsCommitteetoestablishVEYMNews.
On September 11, 2020, with the approval of Tr. Dương Hoàng, National President, under the leadership of Tr. Biên Nguyên, NationalVicePresidentforAdministrativeAffairs,togetherwithTr. Truc Nguyen, National Communications Sub-committee, the very first episode of VEYM News premiered on VEYM's official social mediaplatforms.

During its early days, VEYM News was broadcast on the first and third Mondays of each month. After several months, the news team carefully considered feedback from viewers and members, leading to several improvements: the broadcast schedule was changed to the first Monday of each month, the program became shorter and more concise, and the anchors were encouraged to adopt more creative and engaging presentation styles to make the program even more appealing. intheAgeof Artificial Intelligence
Wearelivingthroughaprofounddigitalrevolution.Artificialintelligenceisrapidlymoving fromresearchlaboratoriesintoeverysectorofsociety,operatingcontinuouslyandatan unprecedentedscale.Amidthistransformationandwithinwhatmanycallthe"seventh continent"ofdigitalculture,PopeLeoXIVcallsustobecomebuildersofcommunion.Rather thanconstructingnewTowersofBabeldrivenbypride,power,profit,andtechnological domination,weareinvitedtobuildasocietyrootedinhumandignity,justice,solidarity,and thecommongood.
Toaccomplishthistask,PopeLeoemphasizestheneedforEucharisticspirituality.For members of the Eucharistic Youth Movement, this insight is especially meaningful. Eucharisticspiritualityisnotsimplyatheologicalidea;itisawayoflifecenteredon communionwithChristandwithoneanother.TheriseofAIchallengesustoreflectmore deeplyonwhatthisspiritualitymeansinourtime.
ThepromiseofAIisundeniable.Itcanexpandknowledge,improvehealthcare,increase productivity,andconnectpeopleacrossvastdistances.Yetitsrisksareequallysignificant. Whendetachedfromethicalresponsibility,AIcandeepeninequality,concentratepower, andobscureaccountability.Itcanbeusedtomanipulatebehavior,intensifypolarization, and reinforce systems of control. In warfare, AI introduces new dangers through cyberattacks, autonomous weapons, and algorithm-driven decision-making that can distancepeoplefromthemoralconsequencesofviolence.
Technologyisneverentirelyneutral;itreflectsthevaluesofthosewhodesignanddeployit. Thelogicofthemachineemphasizesefficiency,prediction,optimization,andcontrol.This logicmustbebalancedbythelogicoflove.Communionisoneofthemostpowerfulwaysto resistreducinghumanbeingstodata,functions,oralgorithms.
ThisiswhyEucharisticspiritualityissoimportant.Itis,firstandforemost,aspiritualityof communion.IntheIncarnation,Godentersourhumancondition.InthePaschalMystery, Christoffershimselfforthelifeoftheworld.IntheEucharist,thatsameself-givinglove remainspresentandactive.Christgiveshimselftousandgathersusintoonebody.The Eucharistformsusintoacommunityoflove,solidarity,andmutualresponsibility.
TheEucharistalsorevealsthepowerofvulnerability.Godchosenottosavehumanity throughdominationorcontrolbutthroughthevulnerabilityoftheIncarnationandthe Cross.Vulnerabilityisnotaweaknesstobeeliminatedbutanessentialdimensionofhuman life.Itmakeslove,trust,compassion,forgiveness,andauthenticrelationshipspossible.AI systems,bycontrast,tendtovaluecontrol,prediction,speed,andmeasurableperformance. Theyencourageavisionofhumanitythatprizesefficiencyoverinterdependenceandcare. Whentechnologicalculturetreatsvulnerabilityasaproblemtobesolvedratherthana realitytobeembraced,itrisksweakeningourcapacityforempathyandsolidarity.
TheEucharistalsocallsustostandinsolidaritywithothers.AIcancreatenewformsof exploitationthatresembleslaveryinstructure,thoughnotinthesameformashistorical slavery.Hiddenlabor,theextractionofdataandnaturalresources,andthetreatmentof personsasinputsintechnologicalsystemscanallbecomeinvisiblebehindthelanguageof innovationandefficiency.TheEucharistcountersthistendencybygroundingusinreality. Atthealtar,weencounteroneanotherasbrothersandsisters,recognizingthedignityof everyperson.Weareremindedthatnohumanbeingismerelyaconsumer,worker,ordata point,butabelovedchildofGod.
Finally,theEucharistpointsustowardtheultimatepurposeofhumanlife.Eucharististhe sourceandsummitofCatholiclife,thebeginningandtheendofourjourneyoffaith.Christ becamehumannotmerelytoimproveearthlyconditionsbuttosaveusandleadusinto eternalcommunionwithGod.HumanbeingsareuniquelycreatedintheimageofGod. WhileAImaysurpassusincomputation,patternrecognition,andaccesstoinformation,it cannotlove,forgive,worship,orenterintoarelationshipwithGod.Humanpersonspossess aspiritualandrelationaldimensionthatnomachinecanreplicate.
ThechallengebeforeusisnotwhetherwewilldevelopAI,buthowwewilldevelopanduse it.WecanbecomearchitectsofBabel,pursuingpowerwithoutresponsibility,efficiency without wisdom, and innovation without communion. Or we can become builders of communionwithGod,oneanother,andcreation.Eucharisticspiritualitycallsustochoose thelatterpath,ensuringthattechnologicalprogressservesauthentichumanflourishing andcontributestoamorejust,humane,andpeacefulworld.

OUR CHAPTERS OUR CHAPTERS
Established in 1990 as Miền Tây, or the Western Region of the Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Movement in the United States of America, we look up to Our Lady of Fatima as our patron saint for our region. At the time, this included northern and central California, and the states of Colorado, Nevada, and Hawaii. Now, as one of the twelve Leagues of Chapters within VEYM in the USA, we take the name of Thánh Gia or the Holy Family. Our patron saints include Jesus (our ideal), Mother Mary (our patron saint of our former Western Region), and St. Joseph (patron saint of families).
Our family now includes more than 1,100 youth members and over 300 youth leaders. We have 10 active Chapters in northern and central California, as well as in the state of Hawaii, covering the Dioceses of Fresno, Honolulu, Sacramento, and San Jose.

In the past 3 years, we have had the blessing and privilege to work with an incredible Ban Chắp Hành. LĐĐS would like to express deep gratitude to our previous BCH for the hard work, dedication, and insurmountable love they have poured into our Liên Đoàn!

Since our establishment in 1986, Liên Đoàn John Paul II has grown into a vibrant VEYM family rooted in faith, service, and leadership. Formerly known as Miên Trung, our League was built upon the dedication of those who came before us, beginning with our first Regional President, HLVCC Maria Phạm Kim Dung. Today, we are blessed to be guided by our Cha Tuyên Úy Giuse Trân Công Băng, SVD and Sơ Trợ Úy Maria Nguyên Hông, OSB.
Spanning 12 states, 19 active Chapters, and three time zones, our League stretches from the Rocky Mountains to the Midwest. From our youngest chapter, Đoàn Đaminh Saviô, to our oldest, Đoàn Kitô Vua Denver (est. 1982), each Chapters contribute to the strength and spirit of our growing family.
Though separated by distances of up to 1,268 miles, our members remain deeply connected through a shared mission and unwavering commitment. Year after year, many travel an average of eight hours to gather, serve, learn, and celebrate together, proving that faith and fellowship know no boundaries. As we celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Liên Đoàn John Paul II, we give thanks for four decades of blessings, growth, and service. We look forward with joy to our Đại Hội Huynh Trưởng & Trợ Tá in Carthage, Missouri, where we will honor our past, celebrate the present, and embrace the future together.

Based in the heart of Orange County, California, we are proud to be 14 chapters strong with 2800+ members. Established in 1979, we are the first league to come into existence within the Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Movement in the United States of America. Our humble beginnings started after our parents and grandparents set foot on new soil and established a Catholic Vietnamese community in Southern California. They saw the need to bring our youth closer to Christ.
After many years of hard work and advocacy by Cha Vũ Tuấ n Tú, Sr. Phan Nguyên, Thầ y Nguyễ n Văn Tuyên, Thầ y Luân, Thầ y Chu Vinh Quang and other Brothers and Sisters, our youth ministry was born and took on the name, Source of Life League, Diocese of Orange. The first few chapters who helped started the league were St. Barbara, Hướng Dương, Gioan Tiề n Hô, Phanxicô Xaviê and Thăng Thiên. Now we have flourished by the Grace of God to 14 chapters.

Among the stories they shared about the early days of our movement in the United States, I was especially moved and inspired by the historic moment when they decided to anchorouridentityintheEucharist,andto build all of its activities upon the foundation of Sacred Scripture and the Eucharist. Thiếu Nhi Thánh Thể Liên Đoàn San Diego was established in 1993 to serve the growing Vietnamese Catholic community in San Diego. Overthepastthreedecades,ithasgrowninboth membership and ministry, becoming an integral part of the local Catholic community. Through itsprogramsandactivities,LiênĐoànprovidesa nurturing environment where young people can grow spiritually, intellectually, socially, and as futureleadersoftheChurch.
Since Về Đất Hứa in 2024, Liên Đoàn San Diego has organized numerous retreats, Eucharistic Adoration and Prayer Nights, and Ngành Days. We successfully hosted Đại Hội Liên Đoàn San Diego in 2024 and 2026, welcoming over 400 participants, and organized Đại Hội Nghĩa Hiệp 2025 with more than 120 attendees from across themovement.
Today, Liên Đoàn San Diego consists of five chapters serving throughout San Diego County. Our members actively participate in community andculturalevents,includingĐạiLễCácThánh Tử Đạo Việt Nam, Tết celebrations, and volunteerprojectsatourCommunityFacilityand RetreatCenter.
AsanactivepartoftheDioceseofSanDiego,our members regularly participated in diocesan events such as the Pentecost Multicultural Mass, MillionMeals,andWalkforLife.Mostnotably,Liên Đoàn San Diego was honored to represent the VEYM at the Installation Mass of Michael Cường Phạm for Bishop of San Diego, the first Vietnamese American bishop to lead a Catholic dioceseintheUnitedStates.
As we continue our mission, Liên Đoàn San Diego remains committed to forming young disciples of Christ through prayer, service, leadership development, and community while preserving andpromotingourVietnameseCatholicheritage.

Established in 1987, our league of chapters is situated in the north eastern region of the united states. This year we celebrated our 39th anniversary. Currently, we serve 9 active chapters throughout the states of Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts.
Formerly known as Miền Đông Bắc, our league of chapters has formally taken a new name: Liên Đoàn Phaolô Hạnh (LDPH), after the Vietnamese Martyr Saint Phaolô Hạnh. In the past 2025-2026 academic year, our Liên Đoàn was excited to receive the VEYM Monstrance to continue the tour around to all the chapters in the United States. This monstrance is special as it was blessed by the late Pope Francis. All of our 9 chapters, as well as our league, were able to be adore and worship Jesus in monthly Eucharistic Adoration. Outside of the mass, spending time with Jesus Christ in the Eucharist in adoration is the next best prayer time. We are proud that each chapter was able to make time in their monthly schedule to as Jesus said, “Let the children come to me.” As we end our tour, this is not stop to the chapters continuing to adore Jesus in the Eucharist, but will continue monthly so our members can experience His love in His real presence.
