JUNE 2021

ALAN, THESE ARE YOUR INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE WEEK…PLEASE READ CAREFULLY! Sandra was away last week with three of her close friends. I’ve been Blake’s Dad for almost eleven years, however, she is clearly the “details” person in our home. Before she left on Saturday, we reviewed three extensive pages of instructions – two for Blake and one for our cat, Willow. Sandra has traveled without us before, it’s just been a few years.

orders: “Do this, get that, don’t forget the other thing! We are running late, you need to pick it up a little.” As Blake sat on the floor putting his socks and sneakers on, he looked up at me and said, “Mom does most of that stuff.” I couldn’t help but laugh. “It’s just us this week, you need to step it up, son.” Like most kids, Blake has an angle for everything. I realized I had met my match while we were having a conversation about “thinking out of the box” on a drive home from school. We talked about the value of taking a different approach to solve problems or create new ideas………somehow, he ended up with a milkshake before dinner that day!

The instructions provided a day by day, play by play overview of the various duties and activities that would fill the time, and it was clear we would have a busy week. On Sunday, our first “boy’s day,” I followed the instructions to the letter. Blake was easy; a baseball game at 6:30 PM under the lights, followed by the all-caps prompt, “MAKE SURE HE SHOWERS!” (a daily recurring We had great week together. It was hectic and fun. When I reflectmessage). ed at the end of the week, I felt gratitude on a couple of levels. For Willow’s list was a bit more complicated. Soft food twice a day, sure I am grateful for all that my wife Sandra does for our son and clean both litter boxes twice per day, fresh water in both bowls for me. twice per day, play with her with the feather (her favorite toy) twice per day for five minutes, a small amount of cat treats I also have a renewed respect and admiration for single parents. nightly. By Sunday night, I realized Willow has the best life ever! The time, effort, and personal sacrifice they make for their children, often while balancing work and other family commitAs I considered the week ahead, Willow’s schedule was a constant, ments, is extraordinary! while Blake was all over the place. Ten trips to and from school. A session with his baseball coach Drew Hungerford (Jim’s son). Four So this is a belated Mother’s Day to the PTSMC moms out there, baseball games, one tennis lesson, one after-school activity, three and an early Happy Father’s Day to the PTSMC Dads. meals a day (supplemented by a pile of snacks), daily homework, Thanks for all you do for your family, and for the PTSMC family! and the ever present “MAKE SURE HE SHOWERS!” As we dove headfirst into the Monday morning routine, we were getting pressed for time and I started a barrage of “encouraging” Alan

StriveHub Fab 5 “The most important reason I gave Jane (Rosadini) a 10 out of 10 is that I can see and feel the change in my hand for the better. Jane is a very knowledgeable therapist and I am blessed that she is in charge of my therapy.” - Guilford “I would have to say my most important reason that I love PTSMC would be the staff. Everyone there is super nice, and makes you feel welcomed and comfortable. You don't find that too often now and days. Keep up the good work!” - Orange “Both my husband and I continue to be very pleased with PTSMC in Branford. The cleanliness, the one-on-one treatment and most of all, the success we are both having towards living a more normal life style, compared to almost 8 weeks ago. I must add there has never been a day when anyone wasn’t pleasant or encouraging. Thank you Emily (Searle), Ted (Raczka) and staff.” - Branford “The physical therapists are very kind and dedicated to making there clients feel better and return to their full function. If someone has a set back they will take that consideration and work with you to get back on track. The staff are very friendly and make a very safe and fun environment.” - Fairfield “Brooke Uliano has been the most thoughtful, caring therapist I have ever come across. She makes it a point to integrate patient feedback into the treatment and has an excellent work ethic. I will happily refer her in the future.” - New Haven
