PARTNERS IN 2026
CELEBRATING OUR VALUED PARTNERS CREATING A CULTURE OF TRANSFER STUDENT SUCCESS
FROM THE
PRESIDENT & CEO Every day, colleges and universities across the country are doing remarkable things to help community college students transfer, thrive, and achieve their dreams. At Phi Theta Kappa, we have the privilege of seeing that work firsthand—and we are grateful for the people who make it possible. The Transfer Honor Roll gives us an opportunity to celebrate colleges that are leading the way in creating exceptional transfer experiences. These institutions understand that transfer success is about more than admission. It is about building pathways, removing barriers, providing support, and helping students feel that they belong. We are proud to celebrate this year’s honorees and the difference you are making for transfer students. But this celebration extends beyond the Honor Roll. We are deeply grateful to all of the four-year colleges and universities that partner with Phi Theta Kappa to create opportunities for our students. Whether you provide scholarships, welcome PTK scholars to your campuses, participate in our programs, or help a student envision what comes next, you are part of their journey. Thank you for believing in the potential of community college students and investing in their success. Together, we are opening doors, expanding opportunity, and helping more students reach the next chapter of their educational journey. We are proud to celebrate you and even prouder to call you partners.
Lynn Tincher-Ladner, Ph.D. President & CEO

A DECADE OF DEDICATION
Colleges that have Championed Transfer Students Every Year Since the Transfer Honor Roll Began Since 2016, the Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Honor Roll has recognized four-year institutions going above and beyond for transfer students. Most colleges earn a spot on the list for a year, a few years, sometimes many. But one group of 15 institutions has done something rarer: they have made the Honor Roll every single year since its inception. These schools do not look alike. They range from flagship research universities to small residential colleges to campuses built for working students finding their way back to school. What they share is consistency—a refusal to treat transfer recruitment as something to set up once and revisit later. Year after year, they have kept their PTK Connect profiles current, their scholarships competitive, and their pathways clear, because transfer students are watching for exactly that kind of follow-through. We sat down with some of these longtime partners to hear what has kept them showing up, year after year. We are also spotlighting a newer partner whose story is a good reminder: a Transfer Honor Roll streak has to start somewhere.
Congratulations to our Transfer Honor Roll partners since 2016:
• Bellevue University (NE) • Cleveland State University (OH) • DePaul University (IL) • Friends University (KS) • Illinois State University (IL) • Kean University (NJ) • LIM College (NY) • Loyola Marymount University (CA) • Ohio University (OH) • Rutgers University–Newark (NJ) • Springfield College (MA) • University of Kansas (KS) • University of Mississippi (MS) • University of Tampa (FL) • York College of Pennsylvania (PA)
NEWARK
RUTGERS UNIVERSITY–NEWARK
For Rutgers University–Newark, an unbroken streak on the Transfer Honor Roll since 2016 is not the result of one strategy—it is a reflection of something the university has believed for a long time: that transfer students are essential to who they are. Long before New Jersey introduced its statewide Garden State Guarantee, Rutgers–Newark was already building its own financial aid pathways for transfer students, including the RU-N to the Top initiative. The commitment wasn't a reaction to policy. It came first.
"Recognition is one of the most powerful ways to affirm a student's value and strengthen their connection to an institution." That commitment is reflected in the success of its students. One PTK member received a Rutgers–Newark scholarship, became a Scarlet Ambassador, and got involved with the Student Government Association. Years later, her mother enrolled at Rutgers–Newark too, received that same scholarship, and is now pursuing a degree in accounting. This is the kind of multigenerational story the university points to when asked what nearly a decade of consistency looks like up close. "PTK students are often highly motivated and purposeful in their educational goals, and we have intentionally developed transfer pathways and support services that respond to their aspirations and expectations,” said Assistant Vice Chancellor of Admissions Vincent Tepedino and Director of Transfer Admissions Brian Switay.
LOYOLA MARYMOUNT UNIVERSITY
A RECENT BREAKOUT Proof It's Never Too Late to Prioritize Transfer
For Loyola Marymount University, 10 straight years on the Transfer Honor Roll says something about how the university sees transfer students in the first place, not as newcomers, but as "accomplished individuals who have already made significant progress toward their educational goals." That framing shapes the earliest conversations LMU has with prospective transfer students. Instead of leading with reasons to choose LMU, the university starts by recognizing what a student has already achieved, then shows them how that growth can continue on campus.
"Transfer students deserve intentional support, meaningful opportunities, and the same sense of belonging that we strive to provide every student." "[Recognition] demonstrates that transfer students are an important and valued part of our institution, and that we are continually looking for ways to make their transition to our campus as seamless and successful as possible," said Gicel Martell de Zardeneta, Director of Admissions and Enrollment Services. Asked what they're most proud of, LMU points to the full arc—students who "succeed academically, become involved on campus, take on leadership roles, and ultimately graduate." The university also credits transfer students themselves for making LMU stronger, pointing to the perspective they bring from work, family responsibilities, military service, and community life. That perspective, Martell de Zardeneta said, is "a reminder that there are many different pathways to a four-year degree."
OHIO WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY Not every great transfer story starts in 2016. Ohio Wesleyan University's story did not. But under newer institutional leadership that made transfer students a stated priority, OWU has quickly become a model other colleges could learn from. PTK Connect has been "a game changer for institutions looking to expand their community of academically gifted transfer students," Associate Director of Transfer & Global Enrollment Grace Sommer said. Year after year, OWU shows up at PTK Virtual Fairs and uses PTK Connect to identify and engage motivated prospects—describing PTK members as "consistently driven, curious, and involved." That renewed focus recently paid off with a PTK member from a nearby community college who chose OWU specifically for its reputation as transfer-friendly. Facing real financial need, the student was able to make the move thanks to OWU's direct 2+2 pathway, generous credit-transfer policies, and its PTK Scholarship—which the university says was the deciding factor over competing offers.
"When transfer students are supported, the greater student body benefits." "Transfer students enrich OWU's campus culture in every sense," Sommer said. "They bring a distinct level of maturity, resilience, and leadership into classrooms, student organizations, and campus offices." OWU's story is worth sitting with. A Transfer Honor Roll streak has to start somewhere—and it's never too late for a college to decide transfer students are worth prioritizing, then show up for them.
