As I am writing this article, I am watching the weather try to figure out what season it wants to be. We have nice days and then windy. A little cool, and then we get some rain. Kind of crazy. Then again, we’ve been through a few crazy times in the last couple of years. The one constant is that Peach Tree Golf Club and the City Club Bistro are both building great momentum going into the summer. The fairways are looking good, the greens are rolling fast and true, and the food at the Bistro is delicious. We are entering a busy time of the year for our club. You will notice several golf tournaments for outside groups are scheduled. These events are an essential part of our revenue stream that benefits each member of the club. I recognize there will be some inconvenience, but we are working to minimize this for you. It seems there is a lot of pent up COVID demand for these not-for-profit organizations to use our beautiful golf course to benefit their causes and help our whole community. One aspect of our increased usage of the club is a need for each of us to be respectful towards others. This is especially true around the club house and the common areas near the practice greens and driving range. As a country club we will expect a level of decorum that is appropriate for our club. While some may find it amusing, profanity is not appropriate in these areas. I believe if we treat each other with respect and are careful with our conversations so as not to offend others, our club will be better for the effort. I appreciate each of you taking this as a call to action.

By the Numbers

The summer is such a great time for golf at Peach Tree. You can enjoy morning rounds with reasonable weather. Some of us prefer the later part of the day to play since it stays light so long. It can get a bit warm in the summer. For some family members it is a great time to use the pool for celebrations or just to beat the heat. I am happy to see so many positive changes happening at Peach Tree and at the City Club Bistro. The team members we have working on all aspects of our club’s life have been doing an excellent job. I hope you can take the time to enjoy all that we have to offer. Play some golf, go to the Bistro for lunch or dinner, or do both. I know it will be a great day for you. Thank you for making Peach Tree Golf Club and the City Club Bistro the best places to go in the community. Best,

GENERAL MANAGER'S MESSAGE SPRINGING INTO SUMMER By Jeff Munsey I hope you have enjoyed the mild and mostly dry spring as I have. While we all wish there was a little more rain, it’s been idyllic conditions to play to play golf and enjoy a glass of wine at The City Club Bistro patio. May and June are two very busy months for the club as we celebrate Mother’s Day in May, Father’s Day in June, kick off our season of tournaments including the Women’s Invitational, Men’s Invitational, Fairway to Health, Sutter Huskies, and more. While many of our members enjoy a certain routine, this is a time of year where I would stress the importance of watching the calendar, emails and tee sheet to be aware of availability in the weeks and ahead.

Members and guest dining in the bar and patio have asked for both regular dinner and more casual options so we created a new Bistro style dinner menu which features items that are more sharable and less formal. Regardless of which room you are seated in, rest assured you can order from either menu at any time. Another opportunity for improvement at The City Club Bistro has been reservations. I am excited to share we have simplified the process and moved to OpenTable as our reservation system. Members can make a reservation anytime by using the OpenTable app on their phone, visiting www.thecityclubyubasutter.com, calling the restaurant directly or contacting Paula at the clubhouse. To help staff at The City Club Bistro identify PTGCC members, the system will allow us to tag a club member in the system so that on future visits, the hostess and servers will know they are taking care of one of our family of Peach Tree Golf & Country Club members.

THE CITY CLUB BISTRO We’ve been busy over at The City Club Bistro implementing a few improvements based on member and customer feedback. To create more consistency, reservations and dinner service will now be available Thursday night continuing through Friday and Saturday. We’ve made some menu modifications to keep some of the most popular items from Small Bites Night moving them to the regular dinner menu available as starters or light bites. Members and guests tell us that dining in The Mural Room is most enjoyable for traditional dinner service, so we will present the formal dinner menu, wine, beer and spirits list to anyone with reservations or that requests to be seated in the Mural Room.

One of the benefits of moving to OpenTable as our reservation system is that it will help allocate available reservations based on the number of people visiting The City Club Bistro throughout the day. Through better spreading of reservation times, the system helps keep the kitchen and service staff from becoming overwhelmed during peak periods, which results in slower service. It may take a little of adjusting for everyone to get used to the fact that there will be fewer reservations available at let’s say

Upcoming Tournaments MAY MAY 16 CAL AM QUALIFIER MAY 24-25 LADIES INVITATIONAL

6pm, but the reality is there is room perhaps just 15 minutes before or after your preferred time. Please note that all tables and times are built into the reservation system and the staff can assist you in finding a reservation time however they can’t override your request because the software is designed to help us keep a smooth operation. Your flexibility will be rewarded with better and more timely service in the future.

DIAMOND ANNIVERSARY MEMBERS Lastly, I wanted to share an update on a topic I get asked about frequently. What’s in the future for our Diamond Anniversary Members? You may recall, in the months ahead of COVID, we initiated a membership drive that was significantly successful growing membership with real golf enthusiasts. It was timed with our 60th or Diamond Anniversary. As the first wave of those memberships come to an end in the second half of the year, we are prepared to offer a path to Proprietary Membership. The Board Finance and Membership Committees have been working together to create a path for our Diamond Anniversary members and Proprietary Members to merge at a rate that is still very competitive to the current Diamond Anniversary rate and one that will be a dues decrease for our current Proprietary Members. Complete details will be shared in June 2022. While the price of living is going up around us, we are working hard to implement a plan that should allow us to make the club even more affordable and with better benefits. If you are a Diamond Anniversary member, watch your mail for an invitation to learn more soon. I would like to wish Happy Mother’s Day and Happy Father’s Day to all the amazing parents and grandparents that share the club with family. In closing, I would like to wish the Peach Tree Men’s and Women’s golf clubs much success at their Invitationals in May and June. Thank you for your continued support,

Jeff

TWILIGHT GOLF IT'S 5:30 SOMEWHERE One of the main reasons people join country clubs other than golf is for the social aspect. We have just completed our sixth week of couple’s twilight and if you haven’t joined us yet, we have been playing a great variety of golf formats that are more social than competitive. The twilight formats are different every week and are usually 4 player team games. I do throw in a couple of two person games, but not that often. Formats can be anything from Step aside Scramble to Jack and Jill. Jack and Jill format is one best ball of the men and one best ball of the women. Easy and fun for everyone playing. September 2nd. I look forward to seeing you at our next twilight!

Our twilight golf is open to all members, and I even encourage bringing out some guests to play. Twilight is a great way to introduce perspective members to our club, our guests will get to experience a fun evening filled with laughs, food, and fun. Chef Eric has been doing a great job with our meals following play with offerings like fried pork chops one week or chicken enchiladas the next, and Chef’s enchiladas are so good! If anyone is worried about playing because they’re not that good, or there is a spouse that doesn't really play golf, this is a great way to introduce them to the game and new people. I encourage anyone out there to invite people we haven’t seen at twilight to come play with us, or if you’re reading this and haven’t joined us yet, please see me or sign up in the golf shop. Our numbers are good with participation holding at about 20 people per Friday night, but there is room for more. Our twilight schedule will continue through July 15, and we’ll take a little break for the hot summer months. We will resume twilight September 2nd. I look forward to seeing you at our next twilight!

LUKE SYVERSON, PGA Director of Golf

TWILIGHT SCHEDULE 5:30 START 05/20 JACK & JILL Two best balls of 4: Teams of 4 will play and score one best ball of the men and one best ball of the women.

06/17

ACCURACY MATTERS

Two person teams, players will add one penalty stroke when in the rough, 2 penalty strokes when in a bunker, and three penalty strokes for a three putt.

06/24

CHA, CHA, CHA

Four person teams will play and alternate needing 1,2, or 3 best balls per hole.

07/01

DAYTONA

Two person teams. Each team puts their scores together, so if they both had fours the score is 44. If the scores were different then the scoring changes based on how you did compared to par. If one of the players gets par or better the lower score is taken first so a Birdie on a par 5 and a bogey would be scored as 46. But a bogey and a double on that same par 5 would be a 76.

07/08

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

A four player team will play one best ball and the worst ball of the foursome.

07/15

RED, WHITE AND YELLOW

Four player teams will compete using one BB when the flag is Red. Two BB when the flag is White, and three best balls when the flag is yellow.

Couples’ twilight will continue through July 15, then take a summer break, returning September 2nd. For the full schedule, ask Luke!

THE CITY CLUB BISTRO by Casey Jackson, Executive Chef & Manager As we push towards summer, I am excited to report that there have been some significant changes made recently at The City Club Bistro! Thursday evenings will now be geared to provide two different dining experiences. The Mural Room will now feature the weekend dinner menu for those looking for a lengthier and more refined evening.

The bar and patio seating areas will offer a

casual and approachable experience featuring appetizer heavy and shareable plate concepts as well as offering a few entrees. We will continue to offer live music as a recurring amenity on Thursday evenings. The newly expanded Patio and Bar “Bistro” menu will now be available at 5:30 pm on Friday and Saturday evenings to provide our members and the public with more food options and menu diversity. Also, Thursday through Saturday evening, beverages will be available from the bar beginning 5:00 pm. Along with a freshened concept and seasonal menu change, there are a few additions to the wine list worth mentioning. Stanford is a California sparkling wine with a light sweetness that can be enjoyed on its own or as a mimosa anytime of the day! Ferrari Carano Fumé Blanc from Sonoma County is a new addition that pairs well with our salads, seafood and chicken plates and will be a nice crisp “go to” as the weather starts to heat up. Also, the addition of the Sheid Pinot Noir will add a classic Monterey flavor profile that pairs well with most of our menu items from seared ahi tuna to prime rib. Look to explore these new vino additions to compliment your food and dining experience! On a final note, Dan Granados, Chef de Cuisine, and I, are excited to start playing with the bountiful yields of summer cuisine produce the Sacramento Valley has to offer. Look to see more grilled offerings and lighter, heat friendly menu items. Grilled lamb chops, grilled pork cuts, grilled fish specials, local organic squash, zucchini, corn, heirloom tomatoes, and melon to name a few. We look forward to sharing our passionate food expressions with all. Cheers!

NEW ASSISTANT GOLF PRO, WELCOME JAMES by Luke Syverson, PGA, Director of Golf As the Director of Golf, I try to spend as much time as I can engaging members, keeping the tee sheet running smooth, providing lessons and advise as well as mentoring my staff. With the increase in membership going back to the start of COVID it become necessary for me to find another golf partner who I could work with that understood the culture of the game. Plenty of people attempt careers in golf only to find out the journey requires sacrifice and takes time. Few stick with it, even here over the years we have had many Assistant Pros who last a few months or perhaps a year. I started looking 6 months ago taking my time to find someone who would add value to our team and complement my way of business, allowing my strengths to shine and providing support in some of the areas of our business that are not perhaps my favorite. Jeff once described me as the Bartender of Golf Pros, meaning he appreciated the fact that I value face time with the membership and am here to be

James Seelig, New Assistant Pro

available to support our members interest in golf. Email on the other

hand or anything at a desk, is not my first passion. That said, members rely on me to answer questions about tournaments, plan events and so on. So, whomever came on the team had to be knowledgeable, have a good game in their bag, be able to help teach and be someone who likes to create structure. In short, someone who I could blend strengths with to better serve the membership. I recently have added James Seelig into the Assistant Pro positions. James comes to us from Houston Texas. James spent summers in the Nevada County area. James has been actively playing golf from a young age and enjoys interacting with members and assisting them as they continue to build their love of the game. James will be responsible for maintaining and monitoring the Pro Shop and the Outside Services staff. I will look to James to help support our team while I am out on the course providing lessons and support to membership. James will also provide support to me with member and non-member tournaments. He can assist me with scoring and the organization that it takes to run the larger events. I look forward to building a strong working relationship with James and ask the membership to take the time to welcome him to our team!

congratulation! The First Flight winner is Mary Michel, Second Flight winner is Panda Morgan, and Third Flight winner is Sherry Hoon. The month of May is just as busy as April; PTGCC hosted our First ever Friends & Guest Day. We opened our Friends & Gust Day to ladies from various clubs to put their own foursome together, they didn’t need to play with a Peach Tree member and the response was overwhelming we had a full field of 108 players. Thank you to Angel Lutz for organizing the event, to our Pro Shop for their outstanding support and help, and to Becky and Eric for taking care of the back end details and food. In late May many of our Ladies’ Club Members will be participating in another WGANC event; a two day Two Person Scramble played at Pasatiempo G&CC. The

Ladies’ Invitational. Mary Michel and her committee are doing a wonderful job of organizing the event; we anticipate hosting 19 teams from various clubs. The PT Ladies’ Club is not slowing down for the month of June; we have our annual two day in-house Peach Cup tournament. Many of our Ladies’ Club Members will play in our neighboring Lake Wildwood Invitational and Canyon Oaks Invitational. WGANC will host a twoday Senior Women’s Tournament hosted by Rancho Murietta. This year the Ladies’ Club is participating in Team Play, our first event in March was cancelled because of rain; we played our second scheduled round in April at Canyon Oaks. Our third team play event will be held at Bidwell Golf Club in Chico. Each scheduled event points are earned and tallied, at the end of the season the team with the most points will be declared the winner. Thank you Angel Lutz for organizing team play this year and to all the ladies who have committed to playing and representing Peach Tree G&CC.

TACKLING SPRING DEAD SPOT by Tracy Shanahan, Course Superintendent One of our most discreet investments into improving our course conditions was performing a plant health application in the fall to our bermudagrass fairways. A growing issue over more recent years throughout the country has been a fungal disease called spring dead spot. The disease is root borne and active in its destruction in late fall while the bermudagrass is heading into dormancy, thereby making it very difficult to detect as the turf has stopped growing late in the season. The damage isn’t noticeable until spring when the turf comes out of dormancy and is clearly denoted in circular areas 6”-24+” diameters where there simply is no spring growth. We have been fortunate to partner in recent years with Dr. James Baird and the University of California Riverside in performing trials at Peach

Typical spring dead spot without treatment.

Tree for researching products and methods for controlling this disease. Through conducting those trials on our own site, we were able to identify a particular product and method for

preventing the disease. Although a significant investment for our Club in applying a plant health product on our fairways, we received tremendous results and much improved conditions with our green up this spring. The most noticeable area to compare would be the approach on fairway 16 (from about 50-yards out towards the green) where no product was applied and acting as a “control” for comparison. Although there is some disease activity visible in miscellaneous locales through the course, the impact was significantly reduced, and we will see much improved recovery well ahead of our normal mid-summer timeframe for full recovery from new growth. This is a great example of our sincere effort to continue growing and improving our maintenance program!
