Welcome to 2022! I hope for each of you that 2022 brings much happiness and time to do things with those you cherish in your lives. Looking back over the last couple of years there seems to be nothing but COVID reminders. It has been a tough time having to say goodbye to members and the incredible challenges that each of us faced each day. Peach Tree has not been immune to any of these. As I reflect on the past years, I am incredibly grateful for the strength and support of our membership. We have asked you to be patient and flexible and you have been very gracious to help us out. We have asked our Peach Tree leadership and team of incredible staff to adjust to new ways of doing things and yet keep the high level of service that we expect in each of our interactions at the club. And, they have come through with flying colors. We have been able to grow our membership and we are working on how we can encourage their continued support of the club and enjoyment of their membership. I have asked my board to consider diverse ways of moving forward with the goal of making the club better for everyone both now and into the future. I am proud of the board and their willingness to imagine innovative solutions that have never been tried before and yet focus on making this club a better place for our members. They are an incredible group of individuals. As a club, we were able to move forward in big ways. One key area is keeping the golf course open and available during the COVID challenges and making it a place for others to want to come. It turns out this was a huge benefit. Granted there were some rough patches along the way, but Luke and his team oversaw the challenges well and made each day a great day at the golf course. In addition, Tracy and his team have kept the course at a remarkably high level of play even during a summer that would have brought others to their knees. Fantastic job all of you. A second memorable event was taking on the new adventure of The City Club by Peach Tree Country Club in downtown Yuba City. Already we are seeing success thanks to the efforts of the entire team under the leadership of Casey and Tenille.

The third event I look back on in admiration was the ability to grow our membership during a difficult period. Our membership committee along with Jeff and Becky worked tirelessly to make this happen. Yes, I know the course is seeing more play. For me, that is a wonderful opportunity to meet new people and show off the jewel of a course we have at Peach Tree. We have entered the second half of our current fiscal year and the last part of my second year as President of Peach Tree Country Club. I am excited to see how far we have come and what I see to be the future success of the club. My hope for the end of this year is that we will be able to look back and say that this board helped make Peach Tree the best place that it could be with the flexibility to move forward in a positive and financially stable way for years to come. My goal has always been to do what I believe is best for the entire membership and to allow new leadership to hit the road running and make this an even better place than before. This club, and each of you as members and staff, deserve only the best! In the future we will be able to more quickly manage the challenges that will come our way through the experiences we have gone through. Our teams our strong, they are flexible, and they are ready to serve. I believe The City Club will really shine as the premier “go to” restaurant experience in our area. If you have not gone yet, you are really missing out. Tell your friends…we are open to them as well. Our chefs are the best around, their food is amazing, the bar has many of your favorite beverages, and the wait staff are just incredible in their service. Membership at Peach Tree will continue to be the one place that our communities will want to be a part of going forward. We have the best golf course in the area that is playable year-round (yes, I did see some of you playing during the cold and rainy December weather). Our future members will find a group of people who care for our club so much that they are willing to help make it a better place by serving on committees, serving on the board, being a part of the men’s and women’s clubs and giving us constructive feedback to help us move forward in a positive way. On top of that, we will welcome them to a club that is strong and poised to reach new heights. I want to end by simply saying THANK YOU. I am honored to have been asked to serve in my current role these last one and one-half years. I look forward to seeing you on the golf course and at The City Club. Have a great 2022 and my best to you and your families.

MAKE A DIVOT, FIX A DIVOT WE NEED YOUR HELP By Tracy Shanahan, Golf Course Superintendent Happy New Year from the maintenance staff! We are thrilled to see the increased activity on the course over the last couple of years. With increased play, we are noticing an increased need for assistance from you, our valued players. Our putting surfaces have remained healthy, and we make every effort to insure consistent and true ball rolling. However, the amount of ball marks not being repaired properly, is clearly evident, and truly holding us back from elite daily play. Although an age-old issue for the golf industry, please, please, please make every effort to repair your impact to the golf course. We ask this not to look like Augusta National, the request is out of simple courtesy and respect to yourselves and your fellow players! Keep in mind that the improperly repaired ball mark may impact your own putt for birdie or to save par the next time you play! Winter play can be spectacular at Peach Tree. Our sand-based soil provides great playability,
even in a wet winter. With the rain and wetter conditions, we are not immune to cart traffic and divot issues. Again, out of respect and common courtesy (golf etiquette), please adhere to the established golf cart rules and take extra effort to avoid wetter or thinner areas, especially through our beautiful but dormant Bermuda fairways and our overseeded green surrounds. Again, the lack of adhering to the “rules” and protocols impacts all players and may very well impact your ability to enjoy quality play on future visits. We are roughly 6 weeks away from seeing a return of growth from the cool-season turf, but we are months away from seeing the Bermuda kick into a new growing season. Again, please be respectful to yourselves and fellow players to help us keep Peach Tree a joy to play for everyone in 2022!
JUNIOR GOLF UPDATE Luke and his team hosted three days of Junior Golf Camp this winter during the holiday school break. This was an excellent opportunity for youth of all ages and abilities to improve their technical skills, develop strong course management and learn golf in a fun, supportive and positive environment. The attendees enjoyed fun golf centered games inside the main dining room when weather was not conducive as well as some instruction on the driving range, chipping greens and putting areas when the weather would allow. Lunch was included each day as well as some pre-holiday fun movie time. Look for future Junior Golf clinics throughout 2022!
PRO TIPS FROM LUKE A couple washout winter days doesn’t mean we have to skip practicing our game. Here is an easy putting drill to work on at home, it’s called book path putting. Focus: This putting drill is aimed at helping improve and focus on the putting stroke. The path of the putting stroke and the line of the ball while keeping the face of the putter square at impact. Instruction: Place two large books on the ground at home, leave enough distance between them so the putter can barely fit between them. Now make practice strokes focusing on keeping the path of the putter straight and ensuring that the putter face is square. If the path of the stroke is not straight, and the putter face isn’t square you will hit the books. This is some of the best feedback you can get that the path of your putting stroke wasn’t straight or the putter face wasn’t square. For more ideas on how to practice, or more games to play indoors, stop by the golf shop!

Clubhouse Chef's Corner In 2022, our Annual Crab Feed will be moved to March. Usually, the commercial crab season starts by November 15th, but this season did not start until December 29th! The Humpback whales’ annual migration from their breeding grounds in the warm waters of Baja California back to their colder feeding sites in the Bering Sea got hung up off the San Francisco coast. Our crab fishermen are legally unable to fish while the whales are present due to possible entanglement in the crab nets. I am confident supply & prices will stabilize as the season progresses and inventories grow. Look for monthly Club Nights on featured Wednesdays to include Live Music, Bingo, Mini Golf and Fun House Night! Member and member guest’s participation are the key to make this our best year ever at Peach Tree!!

Wine & Spirits Society In October we welcomed the return of our Wine & Spirits Society events, at our new City Club venue. Prior to the disruption
caused
by
COVID,
our
members enjoyed frequent gatherings where they could enjoy tasting and learning about wines, spirits and cuisine. Themes have already included "The Casual Fall Family Table," "California Reds," & "Sparkling Wines." Each event includes small plate bites inspired by the season, what's fresh and pairs well with our focus of the month. Mark your calendars for Febsruary's "Apertif, Digestif & Port" event followed. in March with a feature on "Red & White Wine Blends".
