PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE LEAVING IT BETTER THAN WE FOUND IT By Whit Taylor It seems the cold weather is giving way to spring-like conditions and the muchneeded rain is avoiding us. Of course, that means there is more time for golf and more people taking advantage of the great weather and the incredible playing conditions of the course. Soon, our fairways will be green as well. One of the most important parts of our golf experience is to be able to play on fairways that are not pitted with divots and greens that are not covered with ball marks. Each of us needs to step up and help in the maintenance of the course as we play. Leaving the course in better shape after we play than when we started is the right thing to do.
Director
The last few times out, I have played with some very long-time members of Peach Tree. It was encouraging to watch them make the extra effort to sand fill divots and to repair multiple ball marks on the green, including their own. Taking the time to fix some other golfers ball marks helps Tracy and his crew to maintain the course at a very high level of play. Without this effort, we would all become easily dissatisfied with our day at Peach Tree.
JERRY MESCHER
Another area these members and I noticed was how many sand traps were not raked. On a few occasions it interfered with our play because of poor lines in the sand. Something I am sure few would want to happen to them.

Our messages this month revolve around the idea of helping to take care of the course we all enjoy and being courteous and respectful to those around you. It might mean pacing yourself for the group in front of you, or allowing faster golfers to pass you where appropriate. It also means helping the membership by helping with the upkeep of the course…fill your divots with sand, repair ball marks on the green, and rake the sand traps to name a few. My message this month is short. Please take the time to look around when you are playing and help us make this course even better. Take the time to encourage others on the course and be aware of those who may still be learning the game and are not as fast and capable as you. Allowing others to play through or being patient while a newer golfer learns the game are part of being courteous and respectful toward others. I believe this will elevate our enjoyment of golf and our time at Peach Tree. I wish all of you a great spring and a great day every time you are at Peach Tree.

GENERAL MANAGER'S MESSAGE THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME By Jeff Munsey In business and personal development circles, there has been a recent focus on reflection and gratitude as tools that can help build resilience and success. Publications ranging from INC Magazine to Michael Hyatt and Company keep pushing me to consider the value of making time to reflect and give thanks for whatever each day gives. I challenged myself to drop my typical satirical response to the notion to share some views on the club this spring. In reflecting on the past couple years of COVID, I am proud of our Board, Committees and Members for their commitment to the club for remaining active and being welcoming to all our new members. The club’s membership numbers are the healthiest they have been since before the housing crisis of 2008. The club is well situated for whatever comes in the years ahead. My team and I all share in our gratitude for being able to work with our membership. Your staff works and your fellow members play in a walled garden that is unique to private clubs. Thank you to all of our members for allowing us to work with you, get to know you, and you know us. There is a special mutual respect that is shared between our members as well. It’s one of the reasons the club and golf course works as well as it does. As the weather warms, soon there will be one very important place where we can all work together for the benefit of all of us and that is one the golf course. With your help and attention to the following, we can ensure pace is good and that the playing surfaces remain in great condition.

Welcome NEW MEMBERS
Please repair ball marks on greens, even when they are not yours. If you see a ball mark within a step or two of where you are when you get to the green, please consider taking a brief second to repair it, paying it forward for the benefit of those who will come up next.

Resist the temptation to play up too close or crowd the group in front by hitting into them. If you are playing in a slower group, show proper etiquette by inviting a faster group to play through.

Please be prepared to apply sand to all divots on the course. New sand boxes are on order that will be placed at the clubhouse and new sand bottles are available for those with push carts.
Next time you are on the course, reflect on the fun and comradery you enjoy when here. Thank you for being a part of the club and helping to make Peach Tree Golf & Country Club a great place for sharing the game of golf.

Be Kind to the Course
Keep carts away from greens and hazards. The wheels on carts can damage these sensitive areas and impact the lie of a golf ball. Be respectful to your fellow members!
GOLF COURSE ETIQUETTE By Tracy Shanahan, Golf Course Superintendent
Observe cart rules. We ask to keep carts a minimum of 30-feet from the putting surfaces. We also highly encourage a 90-degree rule in winter and spring to minimize traffic on our dormant bermudagrass fairways.
Repair your divots in the fairway. With our bermudagrass fairways, we ask that the divots be filled with sand. There is generally minimal to no recovery from a replaced turf divot with bermudagrass. At cool-season golf courses (primarily poa or ryegrass in our region), the request is to replace the divot as there is much better recovery from these clumpy turf types (that do not spread like bermudagrass). Be respectful to your fellow members!
Repair your ball marks on the green. A properly repaired ball mark can heal in as little as 24hours, whereas an improperly repaired ball mark can take as much as 2-weeks or longer to heal. Be respectful to your fellow members!
Avoid taking a divot on a practice swing. If you do, fix it after your real swing.
There was a great discussion at our semi-annual shareholders meeting regarding the treatment of the golf course and its rules by our very own membership, a topic your esteemed Greens Committee often broaches!
Always rake sand bunkers after hitting to erase your footprints and damage to the area where your ball was. Be respectful to your fellow members!

By many accounts, we have a larger portion of our membership demonstrating complete disregard for proper etiquette while enjoying our beautiful club. Etiquette in nearly all forms boils down to RESPECT, hence the theme of “please be respectful to your fellow members” while you enjoy YOUR Club!
Pro Tips From Luke In the last month I have had many inquiries about putting. The greens are fast this time of year and there are some struggles going on with putters around here. I would like to share a few of the drills that can help with your putting. For more help, please stop by the golf shop!
LUKE SYVERSON, PGA Director of Golf
First issue, excessive body movement. We all know that keeping your head still is one of the most important fundamentals in the golf game. Rocking back and forth creates inconsistencies in the putting stroke. Our first drill to create a stable head will be the flamingo drill. Balance on your left foot (right handed golfer) and placing the ball near your left foot hit putts. If you fall back to the right, you'll know that your shifting laterally while you're putting.
The second issue we see is poor rhythm. The putter is either moving too fast on the way back then slow on the follow through or slow on the back and fast or jabbing on the follow through. A drill for better rhythm is to take the putter back and stop, hold the putter in place for a one count then stroke the putt. Like the idea of a pendulum, the putter swings at the same speed back as it does forward.
TThe third issue is connection with the arms to the body. The putting stroke is dominated by the larger muscles in the body. If you find yourself using your arms and hands more than your shoulders try this drill. Take a golf glove, a towel or a headcover and place it under your left arm. Connect the left arm to your rib cage and allow the shoulders to rock the putter back and forth.

2022 ILT Vacation | Puerto Los Cabos, Mexico
Sixty-six Peach Tree members said adios to California and joined our 2022 ILT Golf Vacation trip to the all-inclusive Secrets Golf Resort and Spa in Peurto Los Cabos, Mexico.
Our own Director of Golf , Luke Syverson, got his first ace on a beautiful Par 3, on the resort property, just yards from the ocean; and Peach Tree member, Marie Rogers, racked up her first eagle! Members found many interesting "hazards" on and off the course, including wild bulls on the fairways; enough sand traps to make you question Jack Nicklaus' sanity; baby & mama whales playing off the coast; and good-sized iguanas lounging with us poolside. Gracias to all who attended, looking forward to more trips together soon!
