students
Our Mission Student Disability Services (SDS) plays a vital role in creating a college environment that maximizes student achievement. SDS provides students with disabilities an equal opportunity to participate in and benefit from programs and services offered at PTC. The college is committed to providing equal access and opportunity to all students so that each might realize their full potential. Reasonable accommodations are provided to students with documented disabilities. The college makes every effort to ensure access to educational opportunities for all students.
Who is Eligible for Services? Anyone with a documented disability should register with Student Disability Services. Services are available to students who have disabilities, including but not limited to: • Learning Disabilities • Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (ADD/ADHD) • Psychological Disabilities • Sensory Impairments (hearing/vision) • Chronic Physical Conditions • Speech Impairments • Mobility Impairments • Autism Spectrum
Intake Students are responsible for self-identifying the need for services. Students should contact the SDS counselor at (864) 941-8378 or (864) 941-8356 to make an appointment. During the intake, students are provided information regarding the documentation process as well as rights that protect students from discrimination and protect confidentiality.
Documentation Any student requesting services must submit recent and appropriate documentation. Acceptable documentation may include: • Health Care Provider Report • Vocational Rehabilitation Report • Department of Mental Health Report • Individualized Education Program (IEP) - with Psychological Evaluation/Assessment • 504 Plan The SDS counselor will review the documentation and together with the student determine reasonable accommodations.
Classroom and Testing Accommodations Based on the individual needs and supporting documentation, reasonable accommodations may be provided in the classroom and during test taking. The SDS counselor will complete accommodation letters every semester. The student is responsible for providing the instructor with a copy of the accommodation letter for scheduled classes.
How to Request Accommodations Step 1: Student self-identifies to SDS and completes the Intake Form located on the SDS webpage. Step 2: Student provides appropriate documentation. See the SDS webpage for guidelines. Step 3: Student and counselor complete the Intake Interview to determine reasonable accommodations. Please note: Students should notify the SDS counselor of any issues or changes needed in accommodations. Advance notice of 2-4 weeks may be needed for certain accommodations.
