IN THE BEGINNING...

NSP was born in 2001 from the vision of Bruce "Buzz" Hansen, a life-long surfer, skater and allround waterman.

While working in Maui as a custom surfboard builder Buzz had an epiphany for producing affordable, versatile, durable and great performing surfboards.

Buzz correctly realized there were everyday surfers that needed an affordable board that performed in Hawaii, yet they didn’t require “custom” or specialized competition or extreme surf boards. His dream was a utilitarian surfboard that could ride in the back of the pick-up truck to the beach, be left in the sun all-day or loaned to a friend without fear of damage - of course it had to surf good enough to give to his long-time surfing buddies, neighbors and friends and save face.

The quest began, so Buzz summoned friends working for a leading composites manufacturer with the goal to create a light, highly durable surf board at highly competitive prices. Working together they introduced a new epoxy technology that would go on to revolutionize the industry and quite possibly recreational surfing. Week-end and occasional surfers were no longer subject to the ill-performing “foamies” or relegated to the used board market.

The code name while in development was “New Surf Project”. Somehow the name stuck and “NSP” was established. The word “New” reflected the brands identity, using new technologies that were new to the market and a new way of thinking about the surf industry.

NSP began selling in Hawaii and Australia in 2002 with immediate success making surfing more accessible. In 2007 NSP was one of the first brands to produce SUPs based on the brand’s original concept of performance and value.

Today NSP has become one of the world’s largest brands in recreational surfing and stand-up paddleboards, introducing new participants, young and old, who in turn have introduced their friends and family to the joy and freedom of the sport and brand.

Since 2013 NSP started producing some of the fastest SUP race boards on the planet, 4 years on we have many national and world class athletes riding NSP and winning some of the most sought after and prestigious titles in SUP competitions.

Over16 years hundreds of thousands of boards have passed, yet our core values haven’t changed. NSP remains true to the original vision of the great performing, affordable, durable surf or paddleboard that allows everyone to surf.

NSP ECOBOARD PROJECT At NSP we respect the environment and the world we play in. We are constantly looking for new ideas and technologies to reduce the impact on our planet as we build surf and SUP boards.

NSP was the first to incorporate shape molded SecureCell EPS blanks in our Surf and SUP manufacturing process. The result is almost zero foam dust waste.

NSP Cocomat technology is the world’s first and only Patent Pending construction, that uses natural fibers from coconut husk waste to create a light and strong micro sandwich.

NSP uses bio based epoxy resin from Sicomin epoxy systems. Sicomin is investing considerable resource and expense into innovating and supplying new, environmentally enhanced green epoxy systems derived from natural origins.

NSP cocomat boards use a high performance bio epoxy resin which has over 28% of its molecular structure deriving from plant and vegetable matter.

Another industry leading innovation by NSP is the use of water based dye pigments in our Cocomat construction. Water based dyes have zero solvents and other toxic additives.

For 2018 we are proud to announce our partnership with coconut water producer Harmless Harvest who will supply NSP with coconut husk waste from Organic for Life - Social & Fair Trade Certificated organic farms, to be used in our Cocomat technology.

SURF FIGHTING FISH

FIGHTING FISH With the Fighting Fish in your corner you’ll be a champion small to over-head wave shredder: - The heritage of this shape comes from the most successful twin fin designs of the late 70’s and 80’s updated as a modern thruster.

- The outline is wide with lots of area in the nose and a double wing swallow tail and a very distinctive and deep double concave V in the bottom.

- The double winger tail is an intricate part of the design with the fins set next to the wingers for a water flow release point in the rail to shorten the radius of the turn giving a quicker, snappier and turnier board.

RACE NINJA

Ninjas are the fastest pure flat water racing boards on the market featuring new shapes and graphics for 2018: - All Ninja models feature the dugout deck concept that lowers the riders center of gravity and allows us to reduce the width without compromising stability.

- All Ninja’s have enough nose volume to be able to paddle in a pack and wash ride comfortably and keep tracking straight.

Sonics are proven race winning boards. No performance compromises are made with these dedicated downwind and course racing designs: - New shapes and graphics for 2018, all Sonics are now pintails to release water from the tail reducing wake.

- Dugout deck designs lower the riders center of gravity, allowing us to reduce width and drag without compromising stability.

- The Accelerator Vacuum System (AVS) quickly removes any wash that enters the dugout.

- They are very strong performers in upwind and downwind conditions as the bulbous nose pops over chop to carry speed upwind and catch bumps downwind.

- The 14/23 is extremely competitive and designed for elite racers or lighter experts to win races in smoother open water conditions and flat water.

- The 14/24 can handle choppier conditions, having a different rocker line than the 14/23, it is extremely competitive for elite and experts as soon as there is water texture to pull away from the pack.

- The 14/25.5 is the same concept as the 14/24 but more stable and comfortable for advanced and expert racers in open ocean conditions, harbor chop and for downwinders. Pumas are the most versatile race board for everyone in all conditions: - For 2018 the design brief of the Puma range was totally changed from a focus on beach racing to a design that is as equally at home in the surf, flatwater and with excellent downwind performance covering all water states and race formats.

- If you are not comfortable with the feel of a recessed deck, if you want to kick turn, if you want to surf race, downwind, race on the flat or just enjoy paddling faster and further, the Puma can do it all.
