Member Testimonials
“A simple hazard of the job, as surveyors, is that we are all about the numbers, right? Here are some discounts that make the yearly membership to PSLS a no-brainer: The free yearly membership to PA One Call is included as part of the PSLS membership. This is a $125 value that covers half of your PSLS membership fee. Also, you receive a free webinar with a membership to help with obtaining CEUs needed for license renewals –roughly a $40 - $60 value for the first webinar and $20 each hour thereafter. You also get a discount on registration fees to PSLS events; this discount can be as much as $140. Along with all these discounts, you receive updates on critical legal issues through the “call to action” alerts. A membership in PSLS pays for itself and more when you add up all these benefits! “~ Pete Brothers, PLS, Southwest Chapter
“I am a member of the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors (PSLS) because the organization gives us a unified voice to ensure that our profession is more clearly understood by contractors, lawyers, engineers, other design professionals, and the general public. Through our public relations campaigns, we educate and enlighten others on what the duties, rights and responsibilities of a surveyor are. PSLS also gives us a voice to our legislators so that our concerns are not forgotten when a bill is being considered for a new law. Without PSLS, we would just be an unorganized group of misunderstood and neglected individuals who happen to practice the same profession.” ~ Eric B. Gladhill, PLS, South Central Chapter

“I became a member of the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors as way to support my Profession and to increase my network of industry contacts. The Society offers me a place to share my concerns and provide my opinions on matters that affect our industry. It provides me with a network of friends and colleagues to seek advice, offer opinions and discuss situations that I otherwise would not have available to me. I find all these things important to my individual growth as a Professional and for the growth of the industry.” ~ James E. Hartman, PLS, Harrisburg Chapter
“As a Young Surveyor, membership in PSLS has afforded me so many opportunities. From scholarships as a student member, to exam review sessions in preparation for my SIT & PLS license exams, to direct, personal connections with many leaders of our profession, both within Pennsylvania and nationwide. When I hear from my peers that they struggle to obtain professional reference letters when applying for licensure, I know immediately that they unfortunately aren’t active PSLS members…my local chapter members were more than willing to provide me the needed references (not to mention job offers) after having been around and involved throughout my time as an SIT. But you also can’t just send in the check, write member on your resume and call it good…get involved in the local chapter or a state level committee that interests you…that is where the most meaningful networking happens and friendships are formed with our fellow surveyors which to me is the top benefit of membership in PSLS.” ~ Chris Jackson, PLS, Southwest Chapter
I am a long time member of PSLS having joined shortly after I became licensed as a Professional Land Surveyor in 1981. I served as a State Director for the Susquehanna Chapter in the early 1990's and was asked by my Chapter in 2018 to again serve in that role. I am a member because I believe it is important for our profession to have a voice at the state level. The only effective way to have that voice is to retain a firm to assist us with legislative and lobbying efforts and the resulting legislative alerts and calls to action. It is difficult for that to happen with our individual voices but there is power in our collective voice as a state society. With the recent requirement for continuing education credits it is a bonus to have access to webinars sponsored by PSLS. PSLS makes our annual conference possible. The PA One Call Membership alone makes ones membership worth the investment in my opinion. And I have come to appreciate the fellowship and friendships I know at our monthly Chapter meetings. We also offer speakers to share in continuing education opportunities. I encourage anyone involved in the engineering or surveying professions to join PSLS. ~ Robert Weaver, PLS, Susquehanna Chapter
