Surveyor 2020 PA Surveyor of the Year Karl Kriegh, PLS Karl started his surveying career in 1983. He attended college at TriState University and St. Louis Community College. His first surveying job was with James Engineering of St. Louis, Missouri. He started out as a draftsman while attending college. He then moved up from rodman to party chief. He always says that “James Engineering was the best at surveying and business.” He gives a lot of credit to the founder, James Wurm, for the opportunity to start his career in surveying. The next surveying position was back in Philadelphia working in surveying for one of the largest companies in the region, tony DePaul. Afterwards he worked for a few local engineering and surveying firms. In 1997 he became a licensed surveyor in Pennsylvania. In the same year he started working for the City of Philadelphia Survey Department as a Corps Leader Supervisor. He was promoted to Assistant Surveyor and Regulator in 2003. In 2013 he was promoted to Surveyor and Regulator. In the spring of 2020 he was promoted to Acting Survey Bureau Manager for the entire City Survey Department. Karl has been a long-standing member of PSLS and the Delaware Valley Chapter. He is currently the Del-Val’s State Director of PSLS. It is a position he has served for over 20 years. He also was President of PSLS in 2013 and served as their Membership Committee Chair. Karl has always been active at the state and local levels. Karl is happily married to his lovely wife, Ellen. They have three children: Anthony, Mark, and Kimberly.
