From the PRESID ENT & CHAIR

Dear Brothers and Friends,

This past year has been an active one across the country, as well as internationally, for the programs and initiatives of the Psi Upsilon Foundation.
Our generous and committed donors and friends have expanded our grants program considerably to support innovation within and across chapters and begun to sponsor leadership development initiatives for brothers across generations. I am more certain than ever that the investment we are making in Psi Upsilon has a unique impact on the lives of countless brothers — not only professionally, but in individual and deeply personal ways that may only become visible years later.
We measure our success in a variety of quantitative ways, but most notable for me is the number of brothers stepping forward to help manage and lead various initiatives. From coordinating our annual FishFund Venture Summit in San Francisco, to a day of golf in the New York Tri-State area, to championing the all-chapter Psi Upsilon Foundation Days of Giving in October, the number of volunteers working alongside our staff has increased substantially this past year. This has allowed the team to plan further ahead, making the most of our programs. I am grateful for the tremendous commitment of every one of our volunteer leaders. Over 60 participated this year! Please know how much we value your guidance, hands-on support, and energy.
A new, innovative concept being tested in partnership with the Theta Theta Chapter (Washington) focuses on technology
upgrades and support for expanded academic resources.
Thanks to the vision and generosity of Scott Boyd, Theta Theta ’05 (Washington) and other alumni leaders within the chapter, we were able to pilot this grant concept, and we hope to expand this type of support to more chapters, helping alumni corporations to improve their houses and increase the attractiveness of living-in. We look forward to sharing more about the outcomes of this pilot opportunity toward the end of the year.
Marking its fifth anniversary with this cohort, the Social Impact Fellowship has supported almost 30 brothers with stipends and post-graduate and professional training. Doctors, educators, public servants, entrepreneurs, and individuals in other social good occupations have participated in the cohorts. Significantly, brothers have participated both domestically and from abroad. Seeing the diverse backgrounds represented within Psi U, flourishing talents, and truly inspirational goals to make the world better, has been a very bright beacon of Psi Upsilon in the broader world. The Social Impact Fellowship continues to evolve and grow with the exceptional volunteer leadership of Dr. Roberta Hunter, Epsilon Iota ’94 (RPI), transitioning this year to Christian Klein, Phi Beta ’92 (William & Mary) My thanks to these and other stalwart program volunteers!
broke our records significantly (see page 9) thanks to many chapter captains and included many new names! We continue to find creative ways of stewarding donors and inviting brothers to participate in the work of the Foundation through generosity with time, talent, and treasure.
The simplest way to honor your own Psi U experience is still to contribute to the Annual Fund — we endeavor to put every dollar to work building programs to support our brotherhood at every stage of their lives and to give meaning to the phrase “Psi Upsilon for Life.”
I am grateful for each board member who guides the organization and drives impact across both Fraternity and Foundation. Our professional team, all of whom have been with the organization for at least two years, continues to embrace innovation and think creatively. I am grateful for their partnership with our Fraternity team and their volunteer leaders. It’s my privilege to serve alongside such a dynamic team of brothers and staff dedicated to bringing our mission to life each day.
The excitement and energy in the Foundation continues in a number of ways and directions. We are eager to welcome more brothers into our programs, events and giving circles. Please join us.
Yours in the Bonds,
YitB,
Finally, our donors and supporters at all levels are essential to making all of this possible. While trends in philanthropy and the current economic environment do make our stewardship more complicated, we are seeing increased participation from new donors in our Days of Giving and President’s Circle (unrestricted annual gifts of $1,833 and more). “Jack is well respected by his peers and viewed as an informal leader... I believe he will make an extraordinary medical professional.”
Austin Zeyfang - Nurse Manager
Medical University of South Carolina
Brother Jack Patterson, Tau Epsilon ’24, has consistently demonstrated his dedication to excellence. He is driven by academic prowess and an intrinsic motivation to excel in all facets of learning. His 4.00 GPA at Clemson earned him summa cum laude status and departmental awards. He minored in psychology (life sciences).
His 97th percentile MCAT score secured him a seat at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), where in 2024 he began to pursue a career as a physician. MUSC is a leader in the Southeast, and Jack has participated in research teams and conferences, publishing a first-author manuscript on healthcare adherence. Other research presentations included “Meaningfulness and Well-Being for Gig Drivers” and “What is Well-Being? A Systematic Review.”
Brother Patterson’s goal is to focus on rural health, research, and global outreach. He wants to alleviate suffering through a career in medicine. He strives to treat patients in community-based settings, tailoring his career with rural and global health initiatives. Jack has many certifications and awards and he is excited to continue his goals over the next eight-plus years of training.
Jack shadowed physical therapists and surgeons at MUSC while attending Academic Magnet High School. As an undergraduate, he volunteered nearly 200 hours with Clemson Rural Health, gaining insight into primary care and public health disparities. He gained clinical experience as a Patient Care Technician in MUSC’s acute care surgical unit, working 12-hour shifts. Brother Patterson is caring and compassionate, forming positive patient relationships. He precepts new patient care technicians, teaching necessary skills. The Nurse Manager at MUSC says, “Jack has been a major part of the elevated quality of care we have seen.” Last year, he interned as a research assistant at an orthopedic surgery research center. He is eager
to explore surgery, orthopedics, and primary care through research, community leadership, and public health.
Jack demonstrated exceptional leadership and responsibility as Risk Management Chair for the Tau Epsilon Chapter of Psi Upsilon during a period of unprecedented growth. His wisdom ensured safe and meaningful experiences for his brothers during a record-setting pledge season. He also served as deputy to the judicial board, where his professionalism, diplomacy, and good judgment were invaluable assets. Jack has helped countless brothers with post-graduate applications and secured internships for brothers on the strength of his strong reputation. He organized various service events and participated in joint event planning with other Greek organizations.
Jack volunteers for the homeless, shadows and volunteers in medical clinics, and gives educational presentations to elementary school students, all while managing a heavy courseload. Medical school has been difficult, but incredibly rewarding. He is frequently reminded of the impact he will have on people’s lives as a physician.
Throughout his education, Jack has demonstrated keen analytical ability, surprising intellectual dexterity, and robust leadership skills, including remarkable sensitivity in observation and communication. His professors are struck by his purposeful and methodical approach to coursework. He is known among peers for his sensitivity to language and nuance, willingness to question himself, broad-mindedness, and genuine humility—qualities that will serve him well as a physician and academic.
Jack has been described as “…illuminating the space around him and those in it.” This brother genuinely embodies the values which have guided Psi Upsilon since its founding.

SARAH KOH Delta ’24 (NYU)
Henry B. Poor, Gamma’ 39 Award

“Sarah is…a great example of the kind of student we desire; those that are engaged, creative, and technical.”
Shawn
Van Every - Chair, Associate Arts Professor ITP/IMA | Tisch School of the Arts, NYU
Brother Sarah Koh, Delta ’24, graduated magna cum laude from New York University with a BFA in Interactive Media Arts and a Minor in Technology, Management & Design. She was on the Dean’s List annually, was a 2023 Research Excellence Nominee, and served as an Honors Scholar in 2024. Brother Koh served as Director of Communications for the Malaysian Association from 2021 to 2023, and on the Fundraising Committee for Alpha Phi Omega from 2021 to 2022.
Alongside academic excellence and other activities, she served as Wellness Chair of the Delta Chapter, where she went above and beyond to ensure the brothers felt supported in their emotional well-being. Sarah loved building strong connections with active members and alumni. “It’s such a wonderful, uplifting community that I will always hold close to my heart,” she says. One of her favorite memories was having her Psi U big and other brothers attend her first art gallery show. In her free time, she enjoys making coffee, being outdoors, and staying active.
Brother Koh has applied to attend the Human Computer Interaction (HCI) program at Carnegie Mellon University School of Engineering in Pittsburgh. This one-year program enables graduate students to advance their skills in designing for seamless digital product interactions, with subject areas including user-centered research, interaction design, product design, and product management. During the first semester, students learn core HCI methodologies and techniques, while customizing the academic experience from a selection of electives across all of the schools within Carnegie Mellon. While completing the second and third semesters, students continue their diverse electives and complete a substantial industry capstone project with an external client. Electives include Human-AI Interaction, Accessibility in User Interfaces, User Interfaces in Developing Worlds, and more. Sarah expects this program to advance her
goals to design for underrepresented demographics and create accessible user experiences for all.
Sarah was selected as one of 300 students to volunteer as a team lead at Develop for Good in its Winter 2025 project cohort. Develop for Good manages teams of talented, diverse college students and industry professionals as they build custom software for non-profits. As the team’s Design Manager, Brother Koh led seven students in serving education non-profit Readeezy Literacy, whose mission is to support the acquisition of reading skills for struggling, disadvantaged adolescent and teen readers. Together, they designed a conversational agent to improve both the quality and efficiency of Readeezy’s literacy assessment process and provide a personalized learning experience.
In an internship at Spotify, Sarah worked to address the gaps in the popular music streaming service’s AI tools. One key issue was with Spotify’s AI DJ feature, which curates a personalized playlist for listeners: the feature frequently mispronounced artist names, especially non-English names. To address this, she designed an interface to ensure that AI DJ pronounced artist names accurately. This project deepened her interest in designing interfaces with inclusion in mind and ensuring that digital tools are designed to represent a variety of identities. Brother Koh chose to pursue Carnegie Mellon’s HCI program because of the range of opportunities it offers to research and design computer interfaces for underserved communities. The program aligns with her goals of designing meaningful human-computer interactions and using technology to support and uplift others.
With an unwavering dedication to designing for social good, Sarah personifies the commitment to moral, intellectual, and social excellence to which we are called in Psi Upsilon.

FRATERNITIES MATTER - OUR RESEARCH COMMITMENT
Hosted by the Pi Chapter July 25-28th
Psi Upsilon gave the National Interfraternity Conference $15,000 over three years to support research on the impact of fraternity membership. Some takeaways:
• Research proves that fraternities foster positive mental health, and engender tremendous loyalty and connection among alumni to support their alma maters.
• Fraternities are accelerators for success in college and beyond.
• Fraternity members experience stronger mental health and wellness.
• Fraternities create lifelong connections.
We all know that the Fraternity experience matters, and thanks to the work of the North American Interfraternity Conference –we now have research to prove it!
Psi Upsilon is proud to be a part of the North American Interfraternity Conference (NIC), a trade association of over 50 fraternities dedicated to supporting the fraternal experience on college campuses with advocacy, education, and providing assistance with campus IFCs. In recent years the NIC has

collected data on a number of studies that have shown the positive impact of the fraternity experience today. Students spend 90% of their time outside the classroom. Fraternities capitalize on those hours by preparing students for success in college and in their futures far beyond what their peers experience. A study of thousands of alumni of diverse backgrounds shows this holds true regardless of an individual’s background or socioeconomic status entering college.

Social Impact Fellowship Fellowship Signature Events
In 2025, the annual Archons’ Academy, the leadership training weekend for undergraduate presidents, and the retreat day for the Social Impact Fellowship (SIF), aligned their dates and location to Arlington, Virginia, to build a stronger and more integrated learning environment for the nearly 50 participants. Holding these events together has provided a great opportunity to celebrate leadership within and beyond the fraternity with a reception including area brothers. In honor of a recent generous multi-year gift from Hampton McFadden, Gamma ’84 (Amherst), the Foundation is honored to name the reception in his honor. President Alex Senchak commented, “This will augment the visibility of the event throughout the fraternity and associate philanthropy with our leadership development programs. I am grateful for Hampton and Harriet’s immense support and engagement to make this a hallmark weekend!” With the warm reception by all participants and event attendees, the weekend programs have grown and plans are in place for 2026 to include more experiential opportunities that may be of interest to more brothers coming from out of town.
Sessions arranged by our Steering Committee included Marketing your Mission and Soliciting Engagement, Kenneth S. Ball, Eta ’82 (Lehigh), Utilizing Boards and Advisors, Alex Senchak, Eta ’06 (Lehigh), an optional Elevator Pitch Workshop with Jonathan Chaffin, GT ’00 (Georgia Tech), Inclusive Leadership: Leading Beyond Bias, Devon Trotter, CPCC, ACC, Phi Beta ’06 (William & Mary), Leadership and Team Building Throughout Your Career, Capt. Jimmy T. King (Ret’d.), Phi Delta ’97 (Mary Washington), followed by joint sessions with our archons. The fellows joined our undergraduates for personal Birkman leadership assessments and analysis, then led breakout sessions with them. Our fellows were instrumental to our programming success, providing insight into their achievements and answering questions from undergraduate leaders. Friday evening we gathered for a reception with regional alumni to celebrate leadership among the various generations present.

Our communities and society face rapidly evolving challenges that have radical effects on people’s lives and the important work of organizations.
Living up to the fullest vision of Psi Upsilon’s mission: “to aspire to moral, intellectual, and social excellence in themselves as they seek to inspire these values in society,” we encourage our brothers to engage in volunteer and professional leadership positions throughout their lives that will impact their communities and our society.
To encourage this, The Psi Upsilon Foundation formed the Social Impact Fellowship in 2021. This year-long program supports leaders in social-impact driven professions — especially those just entering into leadership roles. This award is an honor and an opportunity bestowed on a select cohort showcasing their dedicated service to inspire the next generation of leaders in our chapters, consisting of far more than the benefit of the accompanying grant.
2024 saw unprecedented support for the Social Impact Fellowship program in the form of a generous endowment to underwrite the cost of the annual Social Impact Reception in the Washington, D.C., area.
The skills required of leaders are often not developed in the same programs that breed exceptional clinicians, educators, and policy makers. Conviction, self-drive, and passion often generate great organizations and high impact movements. But, to govern an organization, manage people, and navigate funding opportunities are responsibilities many first time leaders realize they need to hone quickly as they move into leadership roles, or deepen their involvement with meaningful causes
Psi Upsilon invests in and encourages growth of these leaders because, for many, access to resources for professional development often comes at a price well outside of the means of their organizations.

(College of William & Mary)
Professor at University of Minnesota-Twin Cities – MInnesota

Logan attended the “Advancing Research Impact in Society” (ARIS) annual meeting in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The goal of the meeting is to prepare researchers to discuss their research more broadly with government and the public. Logan’s goal is to make Minnesota the first state to offer whole genome sequencing to all newborns. The conference agenda specifically included sessions on public communications.
At the conference, he met researchers in similar areas who brought the International Consortium on Newborn Screening (ICoNS) to his awareness, leading Logan to join ICoNS and yield understanding of the developing international guidelines for newborn screening. As a result, he convened a working group of colleagues from his own institution, the Mayo Clinic, patient advocates for rare diseases, and leaders in public health, to move newborn sequencing forward in Minnesota Any brothers who would like to hear about his research on newborn sequencing, or on his usual research on the causes of childhood cancer, are invited to email Logan at spector@umn.edu.

HONORARY SOCIAL IMPACT FELLOW
Alannah Rivera-Cancel, Chi Delta ’2019 (Duke) Clinical Research Coordinator at Duke Center for Eating Disorders

The Psi U Fellowship helped Alannah to strengthen and grow her leadership skills. During the Fellowship retreat she felt fortunate to gain insight into her communication and leadership styles and left with tools to further her work. Additionally, she took advantage of 1-on-1 meetings with Chip Worrell, Pi ‘80 (Syracuse) to discuss strategies and tactics to become a more efficient and effective leader.
Alannah used her fellowship stipend to sign up for a management skills certificate to continue to hone best practices. In addition, she was able to purchase several books that have allowed her to be more productive in her full-time work, and study towards achieving state firefighter certification.”

2021 HONORARY SOCIAL IMPACT FELLOW Dr. Barbara Hendrie Kappa ’80 (Bowdoin)

After spending time in the Mississippi Delta town of Greenville, Mississippi, at the request of its mayor, Barbara co-authored a blog for the Brookings Institution on their findings and lessons for investing in distressed towns in rural America. She continued to advise international organizations on achieving an ambitious global treaty on plastic pollution, a process being negotiated by the members of the United Nations, attending negotiations in Geneva in August 2025. She plans to start a Master’s in Teaching qualification next year, in anticipation of a new chapter as a primary- or secondary-level teacher in the Washington, D.C., public schools.

Rich Paul, a 2022 fellow, continues to advance leadership in mental health delivery for veterans. In 2025, he achieved two major professional milestones, earning his Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) credential in Florida, and his Certified Social Worker – Private Independent Practice (CSW-PIP) license from South Dakota. With this designation, he is able to supervise postgraduate interns, helping train the next generation of traumainformed clinicians.
This spring, Rich completed the VISN 8 Yellow Belt Lean Six Sigma leadership project, part of a regional leadership development program focused on process improvement and system transformation. His team collaborated across VA hospitals in the Southeast to drive awareness of Tele-Emergency Care (Tele EC)—a virtual urgent care platform to give isolated veterans immediate access to medical support from home. Rich also serves as a Leader Trainer with the ManKind Project (MKP)—a global non-profit dedicated to developing emotional intelligence, accountability, and healthy masculinity in men through weekend retreats and mentorship.
THE 2024-25 COHORT USED THEIR GRANTS TO:
-Register for the Helsinki Geoeconomic Week program.
-Attend the “Advancing Research Impact in Society” (ARIS) annual meeting in San Juan, PR.

Financial Performance
FISCAL YEAR 2024-25 FINANCIAL OVERVIEW
Our 2024-25 performance yielded a surge in new donors thanks to many outreach efforts, including several events that continue to build new audiences. The Foundation worked hard to manage costs across the organization and continues to produce impactful programs for brothers. Gifts and pledges to the Annual Fund and restricted endowment gifts complemented the strong performance of the endowment. The diligent management of the endowment has outperformed the industry benchmark of similar endowments for the past seven years. Moving forward, we are focused on continued growth of the annual fund, especially gifts that offset budgeted activities, such as specific annual events and publications. We also continue to look for business efficiencies through technology and internal means and through external shared resources as appropriate.
