Thank you…

We’re delighted to be hosting this year’s Green Fleet Live show at our prestigious Grade One listed Rochdale Town Hall.

As an authority, we boast 29 electric vehicles in our environmental management fleet alone and we’re growing rapidly as we work towards reducing carbon emissions and boast sustainable fleet practices.

Our fleet, which includes small vans and a 19-tonne electric truck are used by our operational team across the borough for many service areas including street cleansing and waste services. We are one of only a handful of local authorities in Greater Manchester that has this many electric vehicles in service.

We’ve also been trialling electric bin wagons as part of plans to look at alternative options and have begun transitioning to electric grounds maintenance equipment. Our next focus is on our diverse fleet of specialist vehicles, which are primarily diesel-powered. To lower emissions, we have trialled Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) as an alternative fuel, with the aim to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 90%.

Our electric fleet is just one way we are driving forward to meet out climate change goals, which compliments the council’s wider plans to achieve sustainability targets across all services.

Managing uncertain EV futures from a charge point operator’s perspective

Char.gy: Char.gy is a leading electric vehicle (EV) charging provider (CPO), managing a network of over 4,500 public charge points across the UK. We partner with both the public and private sectors to accelerate the transition towards sustainable mobility.

While home charging is ideal for many EV owners, approximately 40% of UK households face challenges due to limited access to off-street parking. At char. gy, we are committed to overcoming this obstacle by collaborating with local authorities to deploy on-street charging solutions. By strategically installing charge points along residential streets, we bring convenient, reliable, and affordable charging directly to drivers’ doorsteps.

To date Char.gy has secured a £100 million commitment from Zouk Capital and the Charging Infrastructure Investment Fund (CIIF) to expand its network and support the transition for up to 1 million drivers by 2030: https://char.gy/local-governments
