Lotta Agaton, a renowned interior designer, shares her insights on balancing aesthetics and functionality, the importance of understanding client needs, and her approach to sustainability.
What are the most important things to consider when choosing products for your home or a project?
I always try to satisfy both aesthetics, quality, and functionality and would never choose a product that only has one of these aspects. It is equally important that it is a good product and that it helps create a beautiful environment. When you have worked a lot with all the details in, for example, a kitchen, the products become extremely important and the finishing touch. I always want them to blend in and become one with the interior.
I have recently discovered ASKO and have used the products in one of our latest kitchen projects, and both we and the customer are very satisfied, so I will continue with that. I like the minimalist expression, and you can feel that it is of very good quality.
How do you balance aesthetics with functionality?
I try not to have to balance but simply use products that have both and everything I am looking for in that particular project.
Are there specific design trends that have inspired you?
I am a fan of the understated and minimalist, quality and luxury that does not need to shout it out but that feels and lasts over time.
How is the design adapted to different environments and customer needs?
It is very important to listen to the customer’s needs. For example, if it is a family that does not cook much, you do not need to choose the most advanced steam oven. But when it is customers who love to cook, it is fun to be able to design really good products with functions that can enhance the cooking experience. Or if it is mostly washing children’s clothes in a large family, you might choose two simpler washing machines with good quick programs, while a person who has a lot of fine materials that they want to be able to wash needs a completely different and more advanced washing machine. I do not just want to choose the most expensive because the customer might afford it but really listen to what their needs are so that they get the product that suits them best. Then I always try to synchronize and not have too many different materials, and then you want to match the kitchen products as well.
How do you work with sustainability in the choice of materials and production?
For me, sustainability and environmental thinking mean choosing good quality and an appearance that lasts over time. If we are honest, it is not good for the environment to buy something new, but if you have to, it is important to choose something you will not want or need to replace soon again.
What trends do you see in design and functionality for the future?
I believe and hope that we will continue to see more durable and sustainable materials and appearances. That there will be less “funny” design. For me, it is not sustainable to design, for example, an orange kitchen that you will most likely get tired of within a few years.

With the Auto Rinse option, you will always have your clothes rinsed well. At the same time, it saves water when extra rinses are not needed
A turbidity sensor is measuring the degree of particles in the process water and automatically adapt the program accordingly by adding an additional rinse step if necessary. It will add maximum two additional rinse cycles – meaning approximately 30 min program time. But it will never exceed the total number of seven rinse steps. This function can be turned on/off as you please.

To help them do this, we have created a range of programs for those suffering from allergies or asthma. Our Anti-Allergy programs for cotton and synthetics are highly effective and are guaranteed to kill dust mites at 140°F. They also rinse the machine four times to ensure that all traces of mites are removed with the water. ASKO anti-allergy programs are guaranteed to kill 99.99999% of bacteria. Adapts your wash so no stains remain
Stains come in all shapes and sizes. And too often, they happen beyond our control. But that doesn’t mean we have to stand helpless as a new stain makes itself known on our favorite garment. Our highly effective ASKO Stain program is the smart and fast way of taking care of stains. It matches the type of stain to the fabric for the best results. For example: to successfully remove blood stains, you need a cold wash first. The program then rinses three times. With the ASKO Stain program, you can take care of red wine, blood, grass, blueberries, butter, grease, chocolate, coffee, tea, eggs and other dairy products and much more.

A solution that takes great care of small bundles
When people picture laundry day, they often envisage a mountain of clothes on the kitchen floor. Of course, that’s not always the case. Sometimes, we find ourselves with only an armful of clothes – but which still need to be washed. This is where the ASKO small load option is the perfect solution. Specially designed for loads lighter than 5.5 lbs, the small load option adapts all machine settings to suit the size of the wash. No matter how well you plan, sometimes, there are just not enough hours in the day. Thankfully, when it comes to ASKO’s Quick Pro Cotton program, you only need an hour – or less. As the name suggests, our Quick Pro Cotton program is a fast program that effectively takes care of clothes without taking up precious time – or energy. The program washes with a gentle tumbling and a lower spinning rate before rinsing the load three times. A 8.8 lbs load at 104ºF only takes 50 minutes while a 140ºF load only takes 59 minutes. With our Quick Pro Cotton program, you can take care of clothes and make the best use of your time.

Designed to do all the hard work for you
To ensure that your washing machine delivers the kind of results you expect from an ASKO appliance, you must keep the machine clean. But don’t worry, we designed a program for that. Our ASKO washing machine cleaning program effectively removes bacteria and detergent residue from the drum, hoses, detergent compartment and drain pump – all you have to do is add a little detergent – possibly vinegar – and press start. The program is run without laundry, runs on high temperature and uses extra rinses. The program runs for 107 minutes, and the washing machine even sends a reminder to run the program after every 40 cycles. The result is a clean machine, clean clothes, more hygiene and an appliance that lasts a lifetime.

BUTTERFLY DRYING™ WITH BUNDLE GUARD™
Clothes bundling in the tumble dryer is a huge inconvenience. First, you have to waste time untangling the wet clothes from the bundle and then waste energy running the program again. To eliminate bundling, ASKO tumble dryers feature Butterfly Drying™ with Bundle Guard™. With Butterfly Drying™, the paddles in the drum gently tumble the clothes in a figure 8 to create space between the garments, which lowers the chance of bundling. However, if bundling does occur, the Bundle Guard™ detects it through low humidity levels and changes the direction of the drum for 30 seconds to resolve the bundle before returning to the normal direction. If low humidity levels remain, this process is repeated. By reducing or resolving bundling, Butterfly Drying™ with Bundle Guard™ also reduces drying time, wear and tear on fabrics and energy consumption. It also ensures that your clothes dry more evenly and that you don’t waste any more time trying to ‘unbundle the bundle.’

ASKO uses a very environmentally friendly refrigerant called R290. R290 is a high purity propane that is extremely useful as a refrigerant. It is used in medium and low temperature refrigeration and air conditioning systems as an alternative to HCFC refrigerants. The use of the R290 has a low environmental impact and excellent thermodynamic performance. R290 is non-toxic and has an ozone depletion potential (ODP) of 0 and a global warming potential (GWP) of 3. R290 contains neither fluorine nor chlorine, R290 is an environmentally friendly and future-proof solution.

Your three lines of defense against lint
It may not look like a big problem, but lint is actually a tumble dryer’s worst enemy. If lint gets trapped inside sensitive parts of the dryer, it will lead to longer drying times, higher energy consumption, and unnecessary wear and tear. ASKO tumble dryers offers three lines of defense against lint in the form of the ASKO multi filter system. The ASKO multi filter system features a door filter with a mesh filter and lower lint filter that features one foam filter and one mesh filter.
Combined, these three filters effectively trap lint and stop it reaching and clogging up the condenser or heat exchanger. Thanks to the multi filter system, ASKO tumble dryers deliver consistent drying performance for years to come and improved safety. It is also beneficial for allergy and asthma sufferers.

Automatically keeps your filters lint-free
The ASKO lower lint filter effectively keeps harmful lint away from the inner workings of ASKO tumble dryers. But for the filter to do its job, it also must be kept clean. To ensure this, ASKO tumble dryers feature a self-cleaning function that keeps the lower lint filter lint-free. The self-cleaning function uses water collected in the condenser water tank during the drying cycle. This water is automatically sprayed onto the mesh filter. The lint and dust then collect at the bottom of the filter where it can be easily removed by hand.
To ensure the water used is as clean as possible, the condenser water tank features a fine mesh lint filter which is easy to remove and easy to clean. This filter also ensures clean water is used during the steam cleaning function.

Quieter, more hygienic and more reliable drying
Every detail in ASKO tumble dryers is designed to improve the entire laundry experience – from greater hygiene to quieter, more efficient and reliable performance. Brushless DC motors are a major factor in ASKO tumble dryers being able to deliver the levels of performance our experts aim for. BLDC motors are extra durable, quieter than ordinary motors and more energy efficient. And unlike standard motors, there are no brushes that can be damaged and need replacing. The new ASKO dryers are up 7dB(A) (depending on model) more quiet than our previous generation.

The choice is yours
The ASKO heat pump dryers works with a low temperature giving you less risk for shrinkage, gentler drying, less wear and tear and thereby longer lifetime for your clothes. The lower temperature does also give the possibility to dry more sensitive fabrics and it makes the heat pump dryer consume about 75% less energy than a vented dryer.
The heat pump dryers are also possible to install in confined spaces since it doesn't need a vent.
The vented dryers are on the other hand cheaper to buy, they have a shorter program time and the higher temperature gives crispier dry and warmer clothes.
Gentle drying for unconventional loads
Sometimes you need to dry odd items, like shoes. And some are more delicate than others. That’s why we’ve designed a handy drying basket that’s designed for those items that need a little extra care during drying. It’s placed inside the drum and then used to hold special or delicate items like soft toys, woolen textiles, cushions, or shoes in place during the drying cycle. It’s easy to fit and comes with a height guide, so you know when an item, like boots, is too big.
