Charity trek in Iceland in aid of the Orchid Cancer Appeal In early July, William Young of Urology News will undertake a ten-day solo trek in aid of the Orchid Cancer Appeal, through the volcanic highlands of the Icelandic interior. William’s journey will cover more than 150 kilometres of sub-Arctic terrain, passing through some of the most beautiful but demanding hiking country the world has to offer. He is paying all the costs himself, so every penny collected goes to charity. Orchid is dedicated to supporting and improving the lives of men affected by male cancer and their families. They offer a wide range of support services, organise educational campaigns, raise awareness and fund a pioneering, world-class research programme. Pinpoint Scotland Ltd launches Urology News app! Pinpoint Scotland Ltd, the Edinburgh-based publishing company, has expanded its portfolio of products with the launch of the Urology News app, which complements the hugely popular magazine by offering an additional resource to readers. The app is designed as a medical education tool and can be used as a revision aid for trainees approaching their surgical exams and a refresher tool for anyone facing a difficult case in clinic. Based around the long-running ‘Spot Test’ section of the magazine the app contains teaching cases presented in a ‘Q&A’ format, making it entertaining and accessible. Pinpoint Scotland Ltd has developed the app along with Brainydoc Ltd, a start-up company specialising in medical apps, and obtained funding from the healthcare company Porges Coloplast. Available for free download on both Apple and Android devices, the Urology News app is described by Mr Ivo Dukic, Bristol-based Urologist, as “a welcome addition to the education landscape in urology”.

WyCath soft tip four eyelet catheter Designed for bladder reconstruction, ACE and Mitrofanoff patients, with a soft flexible tip which has a tapered end to ease insertion. Patients have commented on how comfortable the catheter is to use. The four eyelets are spaced to prevent the tip collapsing on insertion and provide improved drainage for bladders with excessive mucus. The catheter is available in sizes 12ch – 14ch for the four eyelet and sizes 10ch – 16ch for the two eyelet version. Gethen Burch and Tanya Tozer admired the Pico Smart being used by their urogynaecology colleagues. They are now delighted that the urology department, needing a replacement of their old urodynamic system, could purchase the Pico Smart too. Their old Life-Tech system gave many years of very good service but their new Pico Smart is easier to use and offers even more functionality. They are delighted that a report could be customised to suit their needs. They have elected to have their system automatically print out a report with the data and traces after each test. This is a good time-saver. Since Genesis Medical introduced the excellent Medica urodynamic systems to the UK in February 2013 they have become very popular.
